“Did you have to break that man’s neck? You didn’t even give him the chance to fight back,” Steve complains on your way toward the next complex of the building you, Steve, and a new ally, calling himself Soldier Boy try to infiltrate.
Well, he’s not new in this world. Rather an old archenemy slash concurrent of Steve. Locked away for centuries, just like his super-soldier counterpart. Soldier Boy is a stark contrast to your ever so gentlemanly and old-fashioned Captain.
“Do I look like I give a single fuck?” Soldier Boy flashes you a smirk while insulting your Captain. “How about you give them pet names and offer tea while I rip their heads off for killing innocent people for fun?” He challenges now. “When they signed up for becoming mass-murders they knew what they were getting into.”
“Cap, he’s not wrong,” you interject, hoping you can stop them from butting heads, or worse. “We shouldn’t waste more time, though. There are only three of us, and there are hundreds of them. Backup is not available for another five hours. So, let’s get in without making too much noise, get the information, and start the countdown to destroy the base.”
“Good idea, agent Y/L/N,” Steve ignores Soldier Boy’s angry stare and pats your shoulder. “Always so reliable and loyal.”
“Sure, Captain.” You quickly reply, unsure why Steve’s eyes look a little darker. You stare at his mouth for a moment, mesmerized by the way his tongue wets his sinfully pink lips. “Anytime.”
“I bet I can make her salute even faster,” you squeak when Soldier Boy grabs a handful of your ass. Leaving you stunned and oddly aroused. He’s crass and misogynic, loud and just the right kind of wrong, “while my cock ruins her sweet ass.”
“First and final warning,” Steve raises his index finger at Soldier Boy. The thick vein in his neck bulges, and damn that man is flexing his muscles. He grimaces, and angrily glares at Soldier Boy while images of his bearded face between your thighs make your knees buckle.
“OR what?” Soldier Boy challenges. “Do you think you can stop me from ripping that cute tactical suit off of her ripe body and make her cunt my home? I don’t think so.”
“Guys.” You sigh and forget about your secret fantasies for a moment. “We don’t have time for this. If we don’t change position, we are all fucked, not only my juicy ass.”
“What?” Steve swallows thickly at your words. His concurrent whistles and makes another crude comment about your ass.
“MOVE!” You grunt and push against Steve’s back. “I don’t want to end up dead because you had to fight with him again. Shield accepted him on the team. Stop moping and start moving your asses before I slap your bum.”
“You want to slap my bum, agent?” Steve cocks a brow, looking more amused than surprised. “I’d like to see you try.”
“I’m not against a little spanking,” Soldier Boy throws in. “On both ends, sweetness. Let’s get out of here and inside my apartment. I’m gonna show you heaven.” He looks you up and down, and hums. “Or hell, if you want me to.”
“I want you to shut up and do your job,” you snap at the cocky supe. “I know you two believe we all are only foot soldiers following your lead, but this is my mission, and you will do as I say. Move soldier, now.”
Steve watches you dismantle Soldier Boy’s charm. He grins and nods in your direction. “Let’s hurry then, agent. We don’t want to ruin your mission.”
“Aw, he tries to impress you with his submissive side,” Soldier Boy cackles. “I’m not some foot soldier you can order around, sweet cheeks. After we finish this, you’ll pay for yelling at me.”
“Eat me,” you bite back. “If you are brave enough.”
You stomp off, Steve hot on your heels. Soldier Boy watches you leave. He licks his lips and cups his crotch. “Oh, I will eat you, sweetness…”
Tumblr media
“Y/N, down!” Steve throws his shield at another enemy. He growls your name and throws himself into battle to run another attacker over. “Down, agent.”
“The fuck no!” You fire your last bullet at the next guy attacking Steve. “I’m not some damsel in distress.” You pant, and slam your fist into the last man’s face, breaking his nose. He grunts and tries to take you down.
“Hey, that’s my pound of flesh to pound,” Soldier Boy throws his shield at the man attacking you. He decapitates his head, laughing as you shriek and ungracefully jump backward. You land on your ass, crawling away as the head rolls toward you.
“What did I say about killing people?” Steve grunts while you try to not look at the head, and the dead man’s eyes staring back at you.
“I had to save our damsel in distress.” Soldier Boy shrugs. He picks up his shield, cleaning it on the recently deceased man's jacket. “Now, back to the mission. I want to get out of this suit and inside a warm cunt.”
“Gross,” Steve holds out his hand to help you up while your other team member is busy looking inside the cabinets at the laboratory you successfully infiltrated.
“You’re jealous, that’s all,” Soldier Boy opens another cabinet. “I can fuck whoever I want without ruining my reputation.”
“Shut up!” You grunt. “You almost killed me with that fucking shield!”
“You’re alive, and still got your tongue to talk back,” he shrugs. “What do we have here?” Grabbing a vial he smirks. “Do you think this is a drug? Maybe kinky shit helping you get the stick out of your ass, Cappy?”
“Don’t touch shit at the lab!” You try to stop Soldier Boy from doing something stupid. Again. It’s not the first time he got you into trouble.
“DON’T!” Steve screams as Soldier Boy carelessly drops the vial to the ground. “You idiot! NO!”
“Steve, what’s wrong?”
“He just killed us all,” Steve runs toward the broken vial to read the broken seal. “No, it’s even worse.”
“What can be worse than getting killed?” You huff.
“He doomed us to do the unspeakable,” the captain replies.
“Damn, I’m jazzed,” Soldier Boy claps his hands and grins at Steve. “What will we do?”
“Fuck.” Steve replies.
“Yeah, well we got that we are fucked, Steve,” you pat Steve’s shoulder. “But what was in the vial, and what will happen?”
“WE WILL FUCK. Anything and anyone coming to our path until it’s out of our system, Y/N. And if you don’t step away, I’ll go for you first,” Steve turns back around. His eyes are dilated, and he salivates as his eyes roam your body. “Get away from me. Now.”
“Fuck? OH!” Soldier Boy grins. “We will fuck!” He snickers. “Let’s do this then. I can’t wait to get my dick inside of you and ruin your holes.”
“Guys, that’s not funny,” you giggle, but press your legs together. “We should call for help. Right?”
Soldier Boy looks at Steve and then at you. He doesn't feel the influence yet but is more than happy to have the chance to get his hands on you and Steve.
“So, who wants to get dicked down first?”

gold rush (bill weasley) part 1
pairing: bill weasley x reader
summary: “everybody wonders what it would be like to love you.” bill weasley is a golden boy, but i don’t like a gold rush. (based on the song “gold rush” by taylor swift)
wc: 3.1k
warnings: none, someone walking in on someone else but nothing dirty, swearing
a/n: hello! so i didn’t mean for this to be so long lol but anyway, there will be more. once again, a song has inspired me to write. i feel like gold rush totally describes bill and so i tried to run with that. as always, i would love comments/feedback. also if you like it please reblog/follow! i want to start taking requests!
--------------
what a cliche it would be to be hopelessly in love with bill weasley. the charming gryffindor was the poster child of his house, his year, and his family. don't get it twisted, it wasn't that he didn't deserve all the praise; he was kind to younger students, witty in his classes, and bloody brilliant in your shared defense against the dark arts class. you just found it a little funny that everyone he met instantly fell in love with him. how could you take someone like that seriously?
"so you really don't think he's cute?" your friend, rose, asked you as you entered the great hall, the smell of fresh bread and pumpkin juice temporarily distracting you.
"no, that's actually not what i said. he's quite fit, it's just think people make too much of a big deal about it. sometimes i think you'll wet yourself when he looks at you in the corridor." you threw yourself down at your table and started reaching for the pile of sandwiches in the middle of the table. if you two wanted to make it to the beginning of the gryffindor vs ravenclaw game, this would have to be a quick lunch.
"well it's not everyday you see an arse like that in the corridor!" rose says. taken aback by her forward statement, you shove her shoulder, "gross, rose." after a few more minutes of conversation and inappropriate comments from rose, you down the last of your juice and pull your companion off the bench and toward the door.
you could hear cheers long before you were close to the game. after finding a spot with your house, you saw madam hooch release the snitch and the players shoot up to start following the quaffel. a flash of red hair passes in front of the stands as another weasley, charlie, flies at lightning speed.
The game was action packed, but not short. your cold muscles ached a bit as you moved them to walk into your dorm and sit on your bed. as if reading your mind, your roommates crowd into the bathroom to start the showers. you groan, knowing that at this rate, it'll be an hour before you can warm yourself with hot water. then a thought crosses your mind. the prefect bathrooms. your sister had been a prefect years before and had told you where they were, something you were silently thanking her for now. you gathered your towel and robe and slipped out of the room before anyone could ask where you were going.
The prefect bathroom was large and dimly lit, something that made it seem even colder when you walked in. on the far wall there was a myriad of knobs, all leading into a large bath that looked like it could hold your entire upper level herbology class. throwing down your stuff on a nearby bench, you rush to turn all the knobs you can, as blue, and green, and sparkling gold liquids splash into the basin along with steaming water. you slid out of your cold clothes and into the tub, hissing at the difference in temperature between your skin and the water. the water was heavenly and you sunk in until your shoulders were under the water, pulling your hair up from the nape of your neck so not to wet it. the room had filled with the scent of lavender and honeysuckle, and you closed your eyes to take it in.
suddenly there was a creak that you immediately recognized as the door opening. 'fuck, fuck, fuck,' you thought. you could chance jumping out and hoping the person didn't see you naked or you could wait to get caught. you decided that your clothes were too far, and started frantically ushering as many bubbles to you as possible, trying to cover your body. you turn your back to the entrance just as you see the shadow of someone begin to round the corner.
"oh, shit, i'm sorry i didn't realize someone was in here." you wanted to curl up into a human ball of embarrassment. not only did the voice belong to a boy, but you knew exactly which boy it belonged to, and it rhymed with will beasley. unsure of how to respond, you just let out a nervous laugh, not wanting to let your voice give you away as someone who was definitely not a prefect.
"okay, well... i'll just come back later." you waited until you could no longer hear footsteps to climb out of the tub. once dry and wrapped in your fluffy robe, you reentered the hallway, but only after sticking your head out to make sure bill wasn't waiting by the door. as you walked back to your dorm, you could only begin to imagine all the teasing rose would give you when she found out he had seen you in the bath. luckily, by the time you cocooned yourself in your comforter, she was already asleep. you would have to tell her in the morning, or maybe you wouldn't.
**
by breakfast the three days later, the bath incident had left your mind. after the first 24 hours, you felt sure bill hadn't suspected anything, and even if he did, there was no way he could tell who the student in the bath was. you had to pause with the spoon of porridge halfway between your bowl and your mouth, because rose's impression of flitwick had made you burst into laughter. an owl fluttered down in front of you, dropping an envelope with your mother's handwriting on the front. you ripped it open and began to read.
"Dear y/n,
Hello love, I hope you're doing well with all of your classes this term. I'm writing to tell you that we'll be spending part of the Easter holiday with one of my friends and her family. Her name is Molly and she has two sons at hogwarts. Be sure to say hello to them, Molly says they're nice boys. The three of you can leave school together to travel home for break. I miss you dearly and can't wait to hear about your term in person.
love always,
mum"
rose put her chin on my shoulder to read the letter. "i didn't know your mum was friends with the weasley's," she giggled, obviously thinking about bill. "yeah, well that makes two of us." to be honest, you never really realized your mum had close friends. there was no reason for her not to, it had just never occurred to you that your parents were people outside of being your parents.
"actually, it makes four of us," you whipped around to see bill and charlie, a letter you assumed was similar to yours grasped in bill's hand. "my mum wrote they met here as kids and ran into each other a few weeks ago in diagon alley." his easy smile was attractive and his hair fell effortlessly into place, with one soft strand too short to be pushed behind his ear. it looked almost like someone had written it in, it was so perfectly placed.
"wicked," escaped rose's lips as a strained whisper. you elbowed her, praying that she would come to her senses and start acting like a real person.
"listen, i got to run to practice, but let's meet in the main entrance tomorrow morning, yeah? 10am?" charlie butt in, reaching around his brother to grab a banana off your table and without waiting for even a nod, turned to catch up with the rest of his team at the other end of hall.
"sorry about him, he's..." bill was suddenly looking down at you with a slightly funny expression, a small grin on his face.
"preoccupied?" you finish his sentence, marking the first words you've said since he approached you.
"yeah," then, he leans down close enough that only you can hear him when he says, "next time you go for a soak, i suggest trying the orange blossom bubbles," maintaining eye contact with you the whole time.
taken aback, you feel yourself get blush and lean back, your brow furrowed, "what? how did you-"
"i didn't realize you were so interested in astronomy, y/n," he says a little louder, standing back to his tall figure and casually tapping the back of his neck.
you mimic his motion and remember the small tattoo of a moon that sat at where your neck met your shoulders. you close your eyes and cover them with one hand. maybe if you shut your eyes hard enough and clicked your heals he would disappear. or even better, you would. "i'll see you tomorrow," he sent another cheeky smile and turned to walk away, hands in his pocket, laughing quietly to himself.
"um... what the fuck," rose spoke, making you realize you were still watching his back. "what was that about? how does he know about your tattoo?"
"he might've walked in on my while i was bathing a few days ago," you said, bracing yourself for the inevitable.
"WHAT?!" it was even louder than you expected. honestly, you loved rose but bringing attention to herself, and by proxy, you, was something she had a knack for, but not in an endearing way.
"would you calm down please? everyone was taking too long in the showers so i went to the prefects' bathroom and he came in. he only saw my back so i didn't think he knew who it was, but i forgot to account for moony back there," you rolled your eyes, how could you forget about something that you had chosen to put on your body forever?
"merlin, that's so not fair, do you know what i would give to be seen naked by bill weasley?" once again, you were slightly horrified by a comment made by your best friend. this is what you didn't understand about everyone's fascination surrounding bill. even as he walked away, you had noticed a handful of other students following him with their eyes. it was a fact that bill was attractive, beautiful even, but the way people would do anything for his attention freaked you out. being treated like that had to go to someone's head eventually.
"okay, that's enough of that. i'm just glad he didn't give me detention or something," you went back to your breakfast, although you were no longer very hungry.
**
the journey to the weasley's cottage by the sea was uneventful. in the morning, you boarded the hogwarts express with charlie and bill. you didn't speak much, but read a book in your shared compartment while charlie talked to bill non-stop about the latest quidditch techniques. "and i've been reading about dragons, and how they fly, and i think it would be really cool to try some of their flying patterns on a broom. it would be really hard and i'd have to make a few adjustments, because obviously i'm not a huge majestic creature, but if it worked, it'd be brilliant!" you looked up to see charlie on the edge of his seat, trying to mark some of the flying patterns, and looking intently at bill, as if waiting for him to be just as excited. "that sounds great, charlie, really. how did you start on about dragons?" bill quickly caught your eye and tried to share some of the amusement his brother brought him. "hagrid gave me a book, they're really something, bill."
your party gets off at king's cross, and you followed the older boy through the station, until he stops in front of a women's toilet. "uh, i think the men's is over there," you said pointing behind you. charlie laughed. "hah," bill faked a monotone laugh, "there's a portkey inside that will take us to shell cottage. dad said it was a," he looked down at a paper in his hand, "toilet brush. lovely. right, we have three minutes until it leaves. ladies first." he gestured and you entered the room. it was somewhat cramped with the three of you and your trunks, but in the corner was a white, and thankfully clean looking, toilet brush. you grabbed it and held it out for the others to hold on too. after about 10 seconds of waiting, you felt your body being pulled up and then like you had just jumped off a high diving board at a pool. falling, but strangely still feeling like you were upright. before long, your feet hit solid ground again, well somewhat solid ground. the sand made your landing shaky, as it moved under your weight. you looked up and saw a cozy house with warm light glowing from the windows.
after lots of introductions and even more hugs, you finally settled yourself in to a guest room. the view was beautiful. the sun was just starting to set over the sea, the orange hues reflecting off the vast water. putting away the last of your things, you walked down the stairs and announced to your mum and molly that you would be going on a walk. they nodded and made you promise to be back for dinner before returning to their conversation. as soon as you got to the beach, you slipped off your shoes and feel the cool sand swallow each of your toes. it was crisp, but not too cold. you walk for a bit and then sit down on a dune, just taking in the picture the world had created for you.
you see a figure walking toward you and, as it gets closer, you notice it's bill. "mind if i join you?" he asked.
"of course not," you watched him as he sat. "it's beautiful here, your family has a really lovely house."
"thanks, mum has a talent for making any place feel like home." he looked out at the water, but for some reason you kept looking at his face, trying to find details. bill felt your gaze and his eyes met yours. normally, you would've looked away, but a new confidence allowed me to hold his eye contact. "so, tell me more about your tattoo." you chuckled, you should've known it would come up at some point or another.
"i got it with rose on holiday using fake muggle IDs," you explained.
"any special meaning behind it?" he asked, his eyes were now flickering from yours to your neck.
"nope, just liked the art," it was true, you knew you wanted to get a tattoo but didn't want something that held too much weight, so you got something that was simply beautiful.
"that's cool," he said, reaching to touch it with his index finger, "did it hurt?" you shivered at the contact and he pulled away, "sorry."
"no, that's okay," you said turning slightly away from him so he could see it better and indicating that he could touch it. he went back to tracing it with his finger, leaning in to get a closer look. "it didn't hurt as much as i thought it would. but now that you've seen it, it's only fair that you tell me if you have any secret tattoos."
you heard him laugh, "obviously, i've just got the gryffindor lion across my chest, nothing crazy," he joked. you smiled and turned back to him.
"seems very fitting for you."
"oh yeah?"
"charismatic prefect, brave older brother, top of our DADA class? if you were any more gryffindor-y you'd be called godrick," you poked fun at him and leaned back to lay down.
"merlin, you make me sound unbearable."
"well–" you start to trail off only to feel a foot hit your knee, just hard enough to show playful anger. "alright, alright, kidding!"
"do you know what you want to do after school?" he asked, also lowering himself to the ground, but staying propped up on one elbow, his body turned to you.
"not exactly, i really like herbology and history of magic, so maybe find a job where i can study how wizards lived in the past? like how they used plants and stuff" it was something you had thought a lot about, but hadn't really found an answer that fit well.
"you'd be great at that." you shot him a skeptical look. "what? it's not hard to notice you're brilliant in herbology. sprout has you practically teaching half the lessons." you felt a blush spread across your cheeks, and felt thankful that the sunlight was starting to dim. you hadn't even realized you two shared that class, you were always more occupied in the nearest plant.
"what about you?"
"something to do with defense against the dark arts, mcgonagall told me about a career in curse breaking that sounds good. i think it'd allow me to travel, which is a plus."
"that sounds amazing," you say, your mind whisking you away to all the places you wanted to see.
"you can come and visit me, wherever i am." bill chuckled, letting another heart-breaker grin fall into place on his lips.
"and what makes you think we'll keep in touch after we leave hogwarts?" the tone turning back to a lighter banter. you push yourself up onto your elbows
"well, for one thing, our mums. but i also just have a feeling." you're betrayed by your cheeks heating up again. you look into his eyes and find sincerity. they're a deep blue, almost like they've been taken from the nearby water. once again you're reminded of his handsomeness, but this time it's a little different. maybe it's because you've talked more and he's shown you the things he's taken time to notice in you. but his beauty feels warmer. like it was only for you, like it could engulf you. you can see he's started to move closer, and you start to mirror his actions. your eyes move from his to his lips and the light stubble that runs along his jaw, and back again to his eyes. "can i...?" you close your eyes and start to nod, anticipating the feeling of his lips on yours, until, "kids! dinner!" and just like that, the moment is ruined. the two of you open your eyes and put space between yourselves. you clear your throat and stand up, brushing sand off of your legs.
"we should get back," you say.
"uh, yeah, totally." he says, also standing and following you back to the house.
on the walk back, you make sure to stay a few steps ahead of bill to allow yourself some time to think. what had just happened? did you like bill? surely it was just a weird moment following a minor existential crisis about the future right? you should just forget about it and try to focus on spending time with you family the rest of the trip.

HBO Max New Releases: August 2021
https://ift.tt/3A1bKHN
Back when WarnerMedia (which technically no longer exists in the same form) announced that it would be premiering its entire slate of 2021 films on HBO Max, this is the kind of month they likely had in mind. For HBO Max’s list of new releases in August 2021 is highlighted by an honest-to-goodness blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. This film featuring some of DC Comics’ most curious villains borrows its name, format, and many of its characters from the David Ayers-directed 2016 film Suicide Squad. This time around, the rogues gallery is directing by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his colorful disposition. In addition to The Suicide Squad, August sees the arrival of the Hugh Jackman-starring Reminiscence on Aug. 20.

How The Suicide Squad is Different from Guardians of the Galaxy
By Mike Cecchini
It’s a good month for movies overall on HBO Max. Many intriguing library titles arrive on Aug. 1, including Collateral, The Fugitive (1993), The Shawshank Redemption, and Spawn. The Jurassic Park trilogy (Aug. 14), and Godzilla v. Kong (Aug. 17) make their return to the Warner streaming service a little later on.
HBO Max’s original TV offerings can’t compete with The Suicide Squad in August 2021, but there is still plenty to enjoy. The third season of erstwhile DC Universe series Titans premieres on Aug. 12. That will be followed by the second season of former Comedy Central delight The Other Two.

GOLDEN music video analysis
First of all, DISCLAIMER: These are merely the things that I noticed and what I think they could mean. I do not claim that these are H’s brain childs.
Second of all I might have written some stuff double, but I really wanted to publish this before TPWK drops. So YAY to that.
Third of all. Sorry this is really long ^^* Now lets start.
The two main parts that I noticed about the MV:
there is a shit ton of cuts
there are 7 different characters
Let’s have a look at the later first
THE CHARACTERS
In order of appearance
1. The Runner
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.1. clothes
white oversized shirt
half unbuttoned
shorts in soft sand and red colours, one of a kind feedsack shorts (hybrid seeds)
white (but dirty) canvas shoes with soft pink and white laces
gold cross necklace
1.2. symbolism
lots of skin visible through shorts, half-open shirt and shirt being half see-through = openness
canvas shoes are well worn and dirty = steadiness/consistency and loyalty/devotion
shorts: genuine hybrid seeds (Hybrid seeds are bred for higher yield and better resistance against pests and disease. Their seeds will not produce the same plant as the parent)
colours:
white - associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, virginity, perfection
beige - neutral, calm, relaxing
pale pink - soothing
1.3. behaviour
main protagonist
runs after the camera
looks at the camera nearly all the time
Smiles/sings along/runs hard
chases camera, sometimes under strain but most often running with it
He is the thread that leads through the MV (appears a lot in the beginning, gets strewn in until the end, is the first and the last)
only one not wearing pearls
1.4. special moments
“I know you were way too (camera changes from full-frontal to frog perspective to show the bright sky) bright for me”
“loving you’s the antidote, golden” (greets away from camera)
2:35 not running (during the 28 goldens) ruffling hair and looking around as if uncertain how to proceed, “Because I’m so golden” turns and runs away from the camera, “You’re so golden” camera switches back to frontal
Gonna put the rest under the break because this thing got massive and long
2. Suited Up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.1. clothes
light blue/turquoise blazer
shirt striped white and soft blue
tartan flares
white lace gloves (not always)
white (but dirty) canvas shoes with soft pink and white laces
gold cross necklace, light blue&white bead necklace (Millefiori+Freshwater pearls)
2.2. symbolism
patterned trousers - giving balance to the monochrome jacket, the pattern is very small, you have to look close to see it properly
striped shirt - two contrasting colours, stripes were historically used for outcasts and people that needed to be contained (servants, jesters, prostitutes, ...) in this case the contrast is low (white and light blue) and not always right away visible
non-formal suit, no tie, top buttons are open to reveal jewelry, sometimes with lace gloves - hides most of himself but not in an uptied way. There is a playfulness about it with the top buttons undone and the lace gloves that do cover his hands but also not. He plays peek-a-boo with how much he reveals
canvas shoes are well worn and dirty = steadiness/consistency and loyalty/devotion
Colours:
light blue - serenity, stability, inspiration, wisdom, calming, reliability but also sadness
white - associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, virginity, perfection
brown - reliability, elegance, security, healing, home, grounding, foundations, stability, warmth, honesty
2.3. behaviour
goofy and expressive
lots of dad dancing and acting out musical parts
very flirty
   2.4. special moments
gloves: in the beginning and the gesturing along with the chimes
no gloves: dorky dancing and car hood flirting
“Of who I am and all I’ve ever known” dorky dancing
hides his hands when he flirts with the camera while singing “I don’t want to be alone”
Tumblr media
grinning dancing, camera twirls around him, he twirls and lands on a car hood, flirting with both people inside (they are not distinguishable), his foot is raised up coquettishly, pan around to his face, he smiles broadly
3. Car Driver
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.1. clothes
shirt striped white and light blue
lace gloves
light blue&white bead necklace (Millefiori+Freshwater pearls)
3.2. symbolism
the jacket is gone, leaving the striped shirt in full view
shirt not buttoned up
lace gloves - protection vs being open, purity vs debauchery
separated from camera through windshield - distancing himself from the onlooker
Colours:
light blue - serenity, stability, inspiration, wisdom, calming, reliability but also sadness
white - associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, virginity, perfection
3.3. behaviour
does not smile
sings and seems mostly neutral and concentrated on driving
3.4. special moments
“take me back to the light” in tunnel, hard cut to outside tunnel, hard cut to inside tunnel emerging from tunnel
last line: “I don’t want to be alone”
Tumblr media
4. Waterboy
4.1. clothes
swim shorts striped blue/off-white
gold cross necklace, blue beads necklace (Millefiori necklace+Freshwater pearls)
4.2. symbolism
lots of skin, open hands stretched out towards camera - very open
barefoot - innocence/childhood, freedom from real-life requirements
switch from light blue to a stronger blue (necklace and shorts) - emphasize on that colour
Colours:
blue - serenity, stability, inspiration, wisdom, calming, reliability but also sadness
white - associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, virginity, perfection
4.3. behaviour
only one depicted in 3 different ways (1. outside of water filmed from inside water, 2. inside water filmed from inside the water, 3. inside water filmed from outside the water)
outside of water: squatting, facing the camera, strong gestures and mimic, slightly crazy
inside the water: diving, sinking, floating, often with eyes shut
Water is used as something to either hide in (camera) or be surrounded with (H)
4.4. special moments
first appearance: “I don’t want to be alone” reaches for and sings to the camera (which is under water and peaking out) “I don’t want to be alone” dives into the water
“I can feel it take a hold” under water, only eyes above waterline and out of view from the camera
Tumblr media
“out of my head” starts shaking his head crazily “and I know that you’re scared because hearts get broken” camera sinks deeper under water, when it’s under, H hits the water
“I know that you’re scared because I’m so OPEN” hits the water
5. Fishermans Hat
Tumblr media
5.1. clothes
yellow fisherman’s hat
Cross necklace, white bead necklace (Millefiori+Freshwater pearls)
long flared trousers beige with blue flower print
brown belt
white (but dirty) canvas shoes with soft pink and white laces
5.2. symbolism
first appearance of yellow, only hints of blue in the fine flower print
upper body naked, lower body completely covered - ambivalence between showing and not showing but very clearly divided. Covered parts are not guessable bc even the form is hidden
Colours:
yellow - most luminous colour, stands for happiness, optimism, enlightenment, creativity, sunshine but also betrayal and cowardice
blue - serenity, stability, inspiration, wisdom, calming, reliability but also sadness
5.3. behaviour
either pressing his lips together or mouthing along to the instrumentals
swaying to the music
stands on various places on the shore rocks in different distances
lots of cuts
5.4. special moments
only appears during the 28 goldens and the following “Because I’m so open”
only once turned away from the camera 2:38 (extremely short cut, only visible if slowed down to the max)
6. Crystal ball
Tumblr media
6.1. clothes
nail polish gold/silver
white beret with black bow/trim
Cross necklace, white bead necklace (Millefiori+Freshwater pearls)
6.2. symbolism
only clothing is the hat, crystal ball is center - technically very open but what you see is upside down and distorted
he holds the crystal ball himself - the distortion and turning upside down of what we see is in his hands
Colours:
white - associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, virginity, perfection
6.3. behaviour
being upside down
sings along
only fast cuts to him
6.4. special moments
first appearance after “Because hearts get broken”
last appearance “I know that you’re scared because I’m so open” (analysis of that part in the extras)
7. Reflection
Tumblr media
7.1. clothes
swim shorts
7.2. symbolism
the person itself is only seen in contour and upside down - no real information and lots of distortion and distraction (upside down, reflection on the water, tinted red and yellow, clouds and stones mix into the picture)
Colours:
yellow - most luminous colour, stands for happiness, optimism, enlightenment, creativity, sunshine but also betrayal and cowardice
blue - serenity, stability, inspiration, wisdom, calming, reliability but also sadness
red - love, lust, sexuality, sensitivity, romance, joy, strength, leadership, courage, anger, danger, malice, wrath, determination
7.3. behaviour
this could be the 4th version of the Water Boy but as there are so many differences I put him extra
we only ever see the dark reflection of him
always upside down
dances in swaying motions
7.4. special moments
the whole composition looks a bit like an eye
appears 3 times during the 28 goldens
Constants in all roles are:
silver and golden nail polish
Both stand for wealth
silver additionally stands for kindness, psychic abilities and is believed to be the mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us
gold associated with illumination, love, compassion, courage, magic and wisdom but also sparkle and glamour
golden cross necklace
pearls (and Millefiori beads in light blue or blue)
only the Runner doesn’t wear them (it’s not clear for the Reflection but based on the shorts I’d say the styling is the same as for the Waterboy)we all know how H is wearing pearls now basically everywhere so him wearing them in the MV is no surprise
Pearls are said to attract wealth and luck, offer protection, balance karma, strengthen relationships, symbolize purity, generosity, integrity, loyalty, used for purifying wate
The millefioriare glas beads that depict flowers. Flowers symbolize fertility, health, flourishing
these necklaces are pretty and colour coordinated to the outfits but they also seem to be a blessing
when there are shoes it’s white (but dirty) canvas shoes with soft pink and white laces
which can stand for steadiness/consistency and loyalty/devotion
Main themes
a journey that starts in a tunnel and ends on a open road, both (beginning and ending) are unprovoked
conflict between openness and secrecy, how much is shown and how much of that is the reality?
Now to the cuts
The editing of the video is brilliant and hides so many little tidbits that I fear that I have seen only half of them (I meantioned the most noticable ones in the Roles), so here goes nothing
There are 156 cuts
The highest concentration of cuts is during the 28 goldens until “Because I’m so open.”
The biggest cluster of cuts is at 2:43 (7 cuts) and 2:44 (6 cuts) “Because I’m so open”
Tumblr media
All cuts visualized
Runner - skin tone
Suited Up - royal blue
Car Driver: Tunnel - dark red, Outside - sky blue
Waterboy: Outside - pale green, Under Water - dark green, In Water - bluish green
Crystal Ball - brown
Fishermans Hat - yellow
Reflection - purple
The last dark red cut should be morphing into a sky blue (just couldn’t figure out how to do that)
The lead up to the climax starts shortly after the first appearence of the crystal ball (5th row from the bottom)
the 28 Goldens start with the Suited Up blue in the same row
All appearences of the Fichermans Hat are only during the 28 Goldens and in the climax
Now let’s talk about the climax
Tumblr media
the 28 Goldens end with the last appearence of the Reflection (purple)
The following 5 seconds are the climax
Cristal ball “I know” Suited up (full body, looking to the right, lips pressed together, steps forward)
“That you’re scared” Runner (stands, looks at camera, hands on hips)
“Be” Suited Up (portrait, looks at camera, slightly upwards)
“cause” Suited Up (portrait, looks at camera, slightly downward)
“I” Crystal ball
“‘m”
Suited Up (portrait, looks at camera slightly downwards)
Waterboy (in water, head above, hands strechted out to a V)
Fishermans Hat (half body, raising arms, head tilted to the right)
“so” Crystal ball (lowering the Crystal ball)
“o”
Waterboy (in water, head above, hands slowly sinking, moving head backwards as if cheering)
Crystal ball (without Crystal ball, comes into focus)
Waterboy (in water, head above, moving head backwards as if cheering, wave rolls into the focus, Waterboy not visible)
Crystal ball (without Crystal ball)
Crystal ball (super short flicker, with Crystal ball again)
“pen” Waterboy (outside water, hits the water)
Runner (turnes away from camera and runs away)
Tumblr media
So what is the story? At first it might look as if all the different characters are random and the MV only being about a nice summer day, singing about a love and not having an underlying story but when we look deeper there is a lot to unpack.
When we look at the distribution of how much time each character got and when which character was the focus it becomes clear that the Runner is the main protagonist. He is the one that starts us off, carries us through and brings it to the end. He quite literally runs us through the MV. He is the red thread tying it all together. He is also the only one not wearing pearls, which sets him apart from all the characters but also from H himself.
Looking at the other characters he is one of only two that actually smile. But while the Suited up character is, well... suited up, literally hiding most parts of himself from the viewer, even going as far as wearing gloves, the Runner is wearing loose clothes, short or see through and not buttoned up. He is showing quite a lot of himself and he is not self conscious about it or coquettish or anything really because he is focusing on running. Pulling us through the music video by running towards us(?), the camera, really. He is also not chasing. There are parts where he pushes himself to run faster but it’s never a chase. Always running with the camera.
The only time he breaks the pattern is during the instrumental part, the 28 Goldens, where he stops running, looking around as if questioning where to go. He picks back up running directly after the climax “I know that you’re scared because I’m so open” but this time he runs away from the camera as if choosing a different path. Because maybe he doesn’t want the other to be scared and choses to go back or maybe he wasn’t actually open and wants to change that by retracing his steps. But with the next cut to him he is again running towards the camera. It’s not clear if anything changed and then he just stops running. The camera getting further away from him. He looks on, there are no sad feelings.
Of all the other characters only one shows no signs of hiding anything.
Suited up is dorky, expressive and flirty while also playing with the contrasts of a full suit but a not fully buttoned shirt, with lace gloves that hide him but also give peeks of him, with hiding his hands behind his back while flashing his dimpled smile. He looks genuine, he probably is ... to some extent. There are parts of himself that he doesn’t show but he is charming about it. Playing with it.
The Driver hides behind his windshield, also wearing the lace gloves but he is not charming or even smiling. He drives. Somewhere. He definitely drives from the dark tunnel into the light while singing “take me back to the light” and he ends his appearances with the words “I don’t want to be alone”. He shows us his vulnerable side by telling us his hopes but there is no deep connection, he keeps a distance.
The Fishermans hat seems open and for a certain part he is, a bare chest with all his history etched into his skin is quite clearly open. But his lower body is so effectively covered, we can’t even see the exact shape of his legs due to the trousers cut, or if he is even wearing any shoes. that it feels like a statement of “yes you can see part of me but the other part I keep absolutely hidden.” He keeps his lips well pressed together. Jumping closer and further back again with each cut. Making it hard to place him or foresee what to expect next.
The Crystal ball is a study in hiding. Yes the part of the body we see is naked and seems very open, but it’s also upside down and distorted by the ball that he holds himself. And even the part of the climax where he lowers the ball to reveal himself ends in a short flicker of the ball being back, distortion in place. That is the last appearance of this character.
The Reflection is by far the most mysterious. We don’t see anything of him except for his outline. He is a reflection in a pond, distorted and tinted by the other reflections and the stones under water as well as the whole scene being tinted by red and orange. There is no way to get any real information from that one.
And then there is the Waterboy. The one in just swim shorts. The one pulling faces at something, someone, in the water. The one talking directly to the camera “and I know that you’re scared because hearts get broken” while the camera sinks lower. The one jumping into the water “I don’t want to be alone” and “I can feel it take a hold” while being under water. There is no clarification who he is talking too/about but it is clear that he wants to be close and closer. Wants to surround himself with it. This openness is especially stark as every other side character is a version of hiding in some way or the other.
The clash of all those characters hiding, distorting, playing peek-a-boo with how much they reveal and how much of their personality is reality and that one honest open character that wants someone so much that he is diving for them. Disregarding all the other characters because he is the one that scares the other by being open.
And still the last side character making an appearance is the one suited up, he smiles and is charming, flirting with people that can’t be seen, we can see them waving and really they could be anyone that wants his attention. He twirls, drapes himself over the hood of their car, letting his dimples pop, delicately placing his chin in his hand and raising his foot. It’s the longest continuous scene in the music video and is followed only by the Runner stopping to run, ending his part of escorting us through the story.

50 Wrestling Questions: Why Not
Remember this? It’s been a while. Let’s do this again. Let’s twist again like we did last summer. Or the summer of 2017 in this case.
1. What got you into wrestling?
People ask me this all the time, and I don’t really have a good answer. I’ve liked it on and off since I was very young, and who knows why you like the stuff you like when you’re a little kid?
2. What is your favorite wrestling promotion?
Of all time: ECW, even though I would probably think of it very differently if it were happening today. Currently: Beyond Wrestling.
3. Favorite male wrestler of all time?
Gorgeous George, but if we’re talking about people who were alive when I was alive, Dusty Rhodes. I want to say Bruiser Brody, but in my heart I would know I was just saying that to look cool.
4. Favorite female wrestler of all time?
Gail Kim. For the longest time, she was the only woman in a major global wrestling company who got over based on her wrestling ability. She was doing stuff in TNA that was years ahead of its time, and could adapt her style to get great matches with a variety of opponents with very different backgrounds. And she can still go, as she showed in the match against Tessa Blanchard the other night. I know it would be cooler to say Bull Nakano or Chigusa Nagayo or something, but I don’t know enough of their stuff to make that claim credible. I am who I am, a person who goes to the mall to buy shoes.
5. Favorite current male wrestler?
Nick Gage
6. Favorite current female wrestler?
Momo Watanabe
7. Favorite theme song?
Joey Janela’s music captures his vibe perfectly, and sounds great being blasted out of PA speakers inside a small bar or VFW hall. Of all time, probably, I don’t know, Honky Tonk Man? In an ironic way that slowly becomes sincere?
8. Least favorite theme song?
Ricochet’s WWE theme music is pretty dreadful.
9. Favorite gimmick?
Currently: Orange Cassidy. All time: Road Warriors maybe? They were almost 100 percent gimmick, and they were the biggest tag team in the world at a great time for tag team wrestling.
10. Least favorite gimmick?
All the racist and gay-hating gimmicks that have been used throughout the years are more or less equally horrible. If we’re talking about a terrible gimmick that was non-malignant, I’d say it was taking giant indestructible ass-kicker Mike Awesome and making him “That 70s Guy.”
11. Best entrance (either their usual entrance or a special one, like a Wrestlemania entrance)?
Gorgeous George had the best entrance of all time, and it’s been copied ever since (Ric Flair’s entrance is basically Gorgeous George’s, scored with a different piece of classical music). The Sandman also had a great entrance. He was kind of all-entrance, now that I think of it. I also love those old shows in Japan where Brody would come out to “Immigrant Song” running through the crowd, swinging a fucking chain over his head like a lunatic. An entrance that makes you fear for your life: mission accomplished.
12. Best Undertaker Wrestlemania match?
I am not the right person to ask for Undertaker superlatives, but the Lesnar match had a legitimately shocking conclusion that I still appreciate
13. Most overrated?
I’m tempted to incur the wrath of the online by making a contrarian hot take selection like Ken Omega, but in reality it’s probably the Undertaker.
14. Most underrated?
There are a million choices from before the 1980s, the Before Time of contemporary pro wrestling. Edouard Carpentier, say; he was having matches in 1970 that would not look out of place in 2019. Since the 1980s, I’d say Jerry Lynn is a very strong contender for most underrated. The popular choice would be Sid or Lex Luger, but I think they’re pretty much rated exactly as they should be.
15. Have you ever been to an event? If so, which one?
I certainly have been to many pro wrestling events. I go to one or two a month. Like a lot of things, wrestling is pretty much always fun in person. It helps that the Northeast has a ton of good companies within easy driving distance. My favorite show of all time might be Americanrana 2016.
16. Who has the best merch?
We’re in a weird period where people on Instagram are making better shirt designs (in insanely limited editions) than the vast majority of wrestlers or wrestling companies. I will say that Kris Wolf has yet to make an ugly or boring piece of merchandise, which is a huge complication in this day and age.
17. Do you own any merch?
Nope! Wait, I mean, “yes, entirely too much.” Shirts, 8 x 10s, DVDs, magazines, random pieces like fancy enamel badges and a stack of Okada bucks. The one thing I’ve never gotten into is action figures, and that’s probably good for the ol’ bank balance.
18. Best nickname?
"The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes is an all-time classic.
19. Worst nickname?
"The Game” is a dumb nickname. “The Cerebral Assassin” is also a dumb nickname. Are assassins supposed to be stupid? I bet they’re typically very smart, although of low moral character. “Triple H” is his only good nickname, and even that sounds like the nickname of a guy who owns a car dealership out by the highway.
20. Best mic skills?
Nobody was ever better than Bobby Heenan, who had incredible range and versatility. He could do comedy and he could do menace. He could do calm and he could do spitting rage. He had an uncanny sense of timing and was quicker on his feet than almost anyone. No one really comes close at matching his astonishing depth, but Dusty Rhodes was an all-time great promo. He really made you care about wrestling matches, which is not an easy thing to do.
21. Most annoying?
I mean, it has to be Vince McMahon.
22. Most attractive male?
Is Tanahashi too obvious a choice? Best hair in wrestling. It’s incredible and luxurious, like an untamed mountain stream. Andrade “Cien” Almas or whatever they’ve shortened his name to (”And”) is a handsome man. Killer Kross: very handsome. We live in a golden age of attractive wrestlers. Just look back at the gassed-up Zubaz mastodons of the 1980s, or the territories-era guys who all looked like they were 48 years old and had pot bellies. You almost have to try to find unattractive wrestlers. Nick Gage, for instance. But I’m sure even he has his swooning admirers.
23. Most attractive female?
Again, what a time for attractive wrestlers. It may be shallow, but wrestling is a business that’s at least partially cosmetic. Attractive people sell tickets. I would, and have, bought a ticket to see Hana Kimura.
24. Favorite faction?
Of all time? Probably the Barry Windham-era Four Horsemen. More recently, Team Pazuzu.
25. Worst faction?
BULLET CLUB. No, it’s not the Bullet Club, as exhausted as they’ve become. It’s probably the nWo after early 1998 or so, when they had like 60 members and dragged down every storyline.
26. Best ring gear?
Su Yung and Pentagon Jr.
27. Who do you think would be the nicest in real life?
I bet Jerry Lynn is a good guy to know. People in wrestling universally praise Little Guido, which is very rare. The Young Bucks seem like they might be decent dudes. Willow Nightingale told a story on a podcast about Nick Gage excitedly playing with Solo Darling’s dog backstage, so you never know.
28. Who would be the rudest in real life?
On the indie level, it’s probably someone who doesn’t work very much. Above the indie level, I bet some of those British guys are secretly horrible, like Jimmy Havoc.
29. Favorite heel?
Currently it’s a tie between MJF and Alisha Edwards, two of the only people who can regularly get indie crowds to boo them. Of all time, heel Flair was hard to beat.
30. Most hardcore?
It’s definitely either a guy in Japan or a guy in Mexico, and he’s definitely been burned by explosive charges multiple times. Onita? It’s probably Onita. Or Jun Kasai? I think Onita has probably been exploded more times than Jun Kasai.
31. A wrestler you could beat?
At wrestling? Not a single one of them. Nicholas, the small boy who won the WWE tag team championship with Braun Strowman, would wipe the floor with me. Even the most callow bodybuilder-turned-wrestler would not break a sweat beating me senseless. But writing talking points for senior administration officials in preparation for legislative testimony? Now you’re on my turf. Not so tough now, huh, Nicholas?
32. Best story line?
Freebirds vs. Von Erichs or Stone Cold vs. Vince. My heart says the former, my head says the latter.
33. Biggest missed opportunity for a story line?
The WWE blowing the invasion angle after purchasing WCW is the obvious one. More recently, they blew it by not turning Reigns heel.
34. Worst story line?
Ha, so many of them. Impossible to choose just one. At least most of the dumb embarrassing Russo ones in WCW and TNA were basically harmless, like the time Samoa Joe got kidnapped by ninjas. The Chuck and Billy wedding thing was far worse. A low point even by Vince’s impressively cretinous standards.
35. Which wrestler should turn heel?
I’d like to see a Jordynne Grace heel run in Impact. Heel Finn Balor would also be good.
36. Which wrestler should turn face?
Samoa Joe has a good fiery babyface, “I’m tired of doing your dirty work, McMahon!” run in him.
37. Who would be the worst to room with?
Can you imagine sharing a living space with Enzo Amore? Or the thicket of twee Disney merchandise you’d have to negotiate every day if you lived with Johnny Gargano?
38. Who would be the best to room with?
I bet Eddie Edwards would be a surprisingly thoughtful roommate, like he’d always do the dishes “because I love doing them!,” that kind of thing. I have nothing to base this suspicion on, he just seems like my old roommate, Shane, who was like that.
39. Who would be your best friend if you were a wrestler?
I’d like to say Jushin Thunder Liger, and posit that we would go on exciting adventures, but the answer is probably something like “Comp Time” Terry Dandridge, who wrestles monthly for 2Xtreme All-Pro Wrestling Alliance out of Euphoria, Kansas and has a 9 to 5 as a hardware store manager.
40. What would your job be in a wrestling promotion?
I’d normally make a self-effacing joke here, but I do social media training at my real job, and so many wrestlers are badly in need of help in this area.
41. Favorite wrestling podcast/Youtube channel?
I like AIW’s “The Card is Going to Change” podcast a lot, and there’s one by the owners of RevPro that’s pretty good. It’s hard to find a well-produced wrestling podcast that talks about independent wrestling. My favorite wrestling YouTube channel is OSW Review.
42. Favorite finisher?
BURNING HAMMER
43. Least favorite finisher?
The Bayley-to-belly suplex. HOW IS THIS A FINISHING MOVE
44. Favorite match?
Kerry Von Erich vs. Jerry Lawler at Superclash III. It was a bloody, weird, engrossing spectacle, and it was the symbolic end of the territories era.
45. Favorite PPV?
Royal Rumble is the last PPV my casual fan friends reliably want to see, and with good reason: it’s engrossing.
46. Guilty pleasure wrestler?
Big Banter Baron Corbin, but I feel no guilt here. He rules.
47. Favorite submission?
THE KATA HA JIME, otherwise known as the Tazmission.
48. Most entertaining to watch?
All time? Randy Savage. Currently? Io Shirai.
49. Best spot?
Anyone spitting mist into the unsuspecting eyes of their foes
50. Who do you most respect?
I respect you, booker man.

End of Year Wrap-Up 24/12/2018
Happy Merry to all you readers!
I’ve had a great year but all us music fans have had an even better one! Streaming services mean that now more than ever we can experience the musical output from all corners of the globe (though overwhelmingly the English-speaking parts of it) to understand different points of view, learn of the goings on in other parts of the world and most importantly indulge ourselves in a bit of a boogie. All the moods, genres and feels you could think of are out there, so over the holiday period perhaps try and listen to something new. Who knows it might break the tension with that younger/older relative round the xmas table when you find they also happen to like k-pop/jazz-funk/grindcore or at the very least you can bicker about the tragedy of the current album charts (Greatest Showman: 21 weeks!). To aid you in your quest for knowledge/excitement/small-talk I have spent almost 30 minutes curating a best-of for both albums and singles in the year of 2018.
(NB even with my album-a-day policy, there’s no way I can get through everything I want to within the 365, so if your fave appears ignored, let it be known that I probably haven’t heard it yet. The full list of everything I’ve listened to this year is at the bottom)

In the last few decades, actor Robert De Niro successfully made the jump from comedy to drama, starring in comedy classics like Midnight Run, Analyze This and Meet The Parents. Much of his output has been comedies ever since. However, Al Pacino, the equally legendary actor he's most associated with, never made the same career move and has only made a few comedies in his storied career.
RELATED: Dirty Grandpa & 9 Of Robert De Niro's Other Funniest Roles
Al Pacino is one of the most brilliant actors of our time, having starred in intensely dramatic films like The Godfather, Glengarry Glen Ross, and The Insider. During his career, he's mostly stayed in his lane. However, he has, on occasion, popped up in a few lighter movies. Despite not being in many, he clearly has a knack for the comedy genre.
10 Jack and Jill - 3%
Tumblr media
After pairing with usually dramatic actor Jack Nicholson for the comedy hit Anger Management, Adam Sandler tried similar success by adding Al Pacino to the mix for Jack and Jill. In this film, Sandler plays Jack, who is horrified to discover his annoying sister Jill is visiting (also played by Sandler).
RELATED: The 5 Best Sets Of Twins In Movies (And The 5 Best In Television)
In a surprising turn, Al Pacino (as himself) takes a liking to Jill, which Jack uses to his advantage. Infamously, the film was critically reviled and nominated for several Razzies. However, Pacino gives a committed performance, and the final scene where he raps and dances in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial is the film's highlight and, perhaps, the only bright spot.
9 Stand Up Guys - 36%
Tumblr media
Following the trend of movies featuring collaborations between older stars like Last Vegas or Just Getting Started, Stand Up Guys casts Pacino and Christopher Walken as aging gangsters, who spend a night together before one has to whack the other.
While some critics felt the more overt humor was too low brow for the talent involved, the performers take to material. Audiences enjoyed the dialogue and interactions between the legends, even if the rest of the film left little to be desired.
8 Author! Author! - 48%
Tumblr media
While not a flat-out comedy, Author! Author! is a comedic drama about a struggling playwright trying to produce a new play, while also raising many children his ex-wife has recently left him with. The film is an autobiographical account of the screenwriter, Israel Horowitz's, actual life.
Critics and audiences were not impressed with Pacino's turn as a divorced father and compared Author! Author! negatively with the similar themed Dustin Hoffman Oscar-winning classic Kramer Vs. Kramer. Despite the negative reviews, Pacino was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.
7 Simone - 50%
Tumblr media
Written and directed by The Truman Show's extremely unique and creative writer Andrew Niccol, Simone stars Pacino as a movie director, who is fed up with real actors and decides to create a virtual actor named Simone. Eventually, she becomes a huge star but the director then struggles to conceal the fact that she's not real.
As a dark comedy, Simone succeeds with its clever premise and acts as a funny satire of Hollywood. Pacino shines in the many comedic moments the film gives him and despite mixed reviews, was a minor box office hit.
6 The Humbling - 53%
Tumblr media
In The Humbling, Pacino stars as an aging actor who returns home after being institutionalized in a psychiatric facility and begins an affair with a friend's daughter (Greta Gerwig). Pacino initially read and related to the book that it was based on and purchased the rights.
Director Barry Levinson took a more irreverent comedy approach to the material and the film was written by famous comedy writer Buck Henry. Upon release, critics felt the film was the best of Pacino's recent films but nowhere near touched the heights of his earlier works.
5 Dick Tracy - 63%
Tumblr media
Coming off the success of Tim Burton's Batman, Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy is the big-screen adaptation of the classic crime-fighting comic strip detective. In the film, Beatty's Tracy is looking to put Al Pacino's Big Boy Caprice behind bars.

Pacino gives a hilariously over-the-top performance that comes off as more comedic than threatening. Buried under makeup Pacino designed himself, Caprice constantly screams at characters and hilariously attributes quotes to the wrong people.
Overall, Pacino seems to be enjoying his campy performance. Despite the film being divisive among critics and audiences, Pacino received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for an unforgettable performance.
4 Frankie & Johnny - 66%
Tumblr media
Adapted from the famous Off-Broadway play, "Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune," the film concerns a recently released ex-convict (Pacino), who gets a job as a cook at a New York City cafe. Here, he begins a romantic relationship with a waitress, played by Michelle Pfeiffer.
Despite the praise for his chemistry with his Scarface co-star, the two lead's casting was criticized since the original play featured more believable "ordinary people" like Kathy Bates. Directed by Pretty Woman's Garry Marshall, Frankie & Johnny remains Al Pacino's only romantic comedy.
3 Ocean's Thirteen - 69%
Tumblr media
Ocean's Thirteen was the third entry in the Ocean's 11 trilogy and featured an all-star cast of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and more. In the threequel, the usual crew seeks revenge on a ruthless casino owner, played by Pacino.
Critics and audiences enjoyed the film, calling it slick and entertaining, and believed it was an improvement over the previous franchise entry. In addition, most felt Pacino was a welcome inclusion to the already star-studded ensemble cast, holding his own against all the other heavy hitters.
2 Danny Collins - 77%
Tumblr media
Written and directed by This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, Danny Collins concerns the titular aging rock star (Pacino), who discovers that John Lennon wrote him a letter much earlier in his career. Inspired by the letter, Danny decides to improve his life and reconnect with his estranged son.
Pacino is supremely charming as Collins and the film balances comedy and drama effectively. While featuring many funny moments, Danny Collins is extremely heartfelt and tender from the beginning until its beautiful closing moments. For his role, Pacino received a Golden Globe nomination and critics consider the movie an overlooked gem.
1 Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood - 85%
Tumblr media
After casting Robert De Niro in Jackie Brown, director Quentin Tarantino finally got to work with his cohort Al Pacino, albeit only for a few scenes, when he cast him in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The acclaimed slice-of-life film takes place in 1960's Hollywood where an actor and a stunt man struggle for success.
In his brief role, Pacino gives a spirited performance as a flamboyant agent who tries to convince aging actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) to make westerns in Italy. Despite his short time on screen, Pacino is extremely memorable and audiences wished there was more of him in the film.

We're frequently told the benefits of washing our purell singles advanced hand sanitizer gel fragrance-free 9630-08-ec with soap and warm water -- the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing with soap and water as the best possible way to remain clean. Yet, grocery stores, office buildings, and other public areas now provide hand sanitizer while parents often carry disposable wipes to clean their children's hands in pubs or following any outdoor activity. Really, the hand sanitizer vs. hand-washing debate touches areas that go far beyond hospitals and other healthcare settings. However, the right choice is important to keeping families, patients, and healthcare staff secure. So which is best? Hand Sanitizer Vs.
Hand Washing Hand sanitizer vs. soap and water -- it is no surprise that hospital employees and consumers alike always considers that question. Both conventional hand-washing with soap and picking for hand sanitizer has its own benefits and drawbacks. While washing with water and soap is clinically proven to be the very best way to stay germ-free, hand sanitizer works in the majority of situations. Hand sanitizer also gives an extraordinary level of advantage. This convenience is just one of the biggest hand sanitizer benefits. Hand sanitizer is remarkably accessible; hand sanitizer is offered in small bottles which may be carried in a handbag, stored in a table, and kept in each bathroom in the home. Hand sanitizer also makes how to make hand sanitizer without aloe vera hygiene a whole lot less difficult to accomplish sometimes once you simply can't get to a sink to wash your hands. As a father of 2 teenaged boys, I know it's often quicker to get them to squirt the liquid into their hands than ever take the time to wash them! Why soap and water is Far Better than hand sanitizer That said, hand-washing with water and soap is the golden standard. There are particular situations where it is nonnegotiable. While sanitizer is remarkably convenient, there are some major drawbacks.
Hand sanitizers aren't recommended for palms that are visibly dirty or greasy. Again, water and soap gets the job done when your palms are covered in dirt or dirt. Everyone, not just healthcare employees, should be washing their hands with soap and water as far as you can. The CDC recommends it for anybody doing the following activities: When to wash your hands: It might appear silly, but it's true -- we really do teach all of our new partners to sing the"Happy Birthday" song twice once they lather up as part of their training. The song is catchy and fun, simple to comprehend, is known around the world, and can be sung in anyone's native language. While it may appear that we've only settled the hand sanitizer vs. hand-washing question once and for there are a few other things to remember about hand sanitizer. As hand sanitizer is so accessible, there are particular situations where it's going to be a sensible choice.
However, you must make certain that you choose a hand sanitizer that fulfills a certain set of requirements whenever you're not able to wash your hands with water and soap. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are the ideal hand sanitizer for bicycles (and past!) . Alcohol-based hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol are a simple and efficient method to clean your hands. For our staff, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are recommended for partners that wash patient hospital rooms and prepare food. These products have the capability to kill germs in 15 seconds. For hospital foam pump or gel kind dispensing, typically, this could equal 1 -- 2 pumps. The importance of hand hygiene in preventing Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) Beyond the question of choosing hand sanitizer vs. hand-washing, appropriate hand hygiene general is essential to maintaining the wellness of patients in the clinic. We all know how individuals can stop germs because we practice proper hand hygiene every day to stop illness, even death, in our associations.
The CDC says that approximately one in 25 patients in the US becomes infected while they are in the clinic. Referred to as Healthcare Associated Infections, or HAIs, roughly 75,000 patients using HAIs die each year. Hand hygiene is essential in stopping this problem as an estimated 20-40 percentage of HAIs are transmitted by the hands of health care employees, or HCPs. Patients are infected with direct touching or simply by coming in contact with surfaces such as bed rails and bathroom seats that HCPs have touched. Touching any surface at a patient's hospital area or elsewhere at the hospital may lead disease-causing organisms to be transmitted onto the palms of HCP and may consequently spread these disease-causing organisms. Unfortunately, the CDC notes that healthcare employees practice hand hygiene about half of the time they need to. And this fact sets the employees themselves as well as their patients and their co-workers at risk for serious injury.
To guarantee all Crothall associates are properly trained and have access to hand sanitizers that transcend CDC requirements, Crothall works with product suppliers that focus on preventing diseases. We've got an agreement GOJO Industries, the inventors of PURELL®, as our favored hand hygiene supplier. They're also committed to making proper making homemade hand sanitizer with fresh aloe vera hygiene compliance simple for healthcare workers, patients, and people. In addition, for the last several years, we have experienced a partnership with Handwashingforlife® to help reduce the chance of HAIs and person-to-person disease.
Our housekeeping staff is educated the science supporting hygiene, the proper way to put on and take off gloves and proper gloving technique, and the significance of cleansing high-touch surfaces. In 2020 washing our hands turned into front-page news with all the COVID-19 pandemic. So while hand sanitizer and soap and water might have been dull subjects, they have risen to international consciousness. Simply washing our hands properly can prevent numerous ailments, for example, spread of viruses such as COVID-19. But whether it is at home, in a public place, or within a hospital, take the opportunity to ensure to safeguard yourself and others from spreading disease by simply taking 20 seconds to lather up, wash and dry.

Chikara “Earning the Lucha Libre Merit Badge” Live Show Report September 6th in Mount Holly, NJ
After a summer where I watched a lot of wrestling from home, including an outstanding G1 Climax in its entirety, I attended my first of two Chikara shows this weekend. This was a benefit show for the local Boy Scouts of America council, held in the gymnasium of Westampton Middle School. This is the closest Chikara has ever run near me, about 15 minutes from home. It had a nice turnout, a mix of regular Chikara fans I’ve see regularly at the Wrestle Factory, as well as South Jersey locals, including a lot of kids, out to see what this Chikara was all about. Among the things available at a table associated with the scouts was a program explaining who all of the wrestlers on the card were. After some kind words from one of the men associated with the council, a snafu with the sound system, and Mark Adam Haggerty thanking the sponsors for the event (including the Mount Holly-based comic book shop I go to), we got going with the matches.
1. Boomer Hatfield beat Callux the Castigator with a meteora. Betsy Ross and the AEW-bound Bryce Remsburg were the refs for the night, with Ross up first for this match. Boomer was supposed to be wrestling Der Wildebeest, Jakob Hammermeier’s latest charge, but he didn’t make the show, with Haggerty explaining that the tracking device on him was lost. Callux was available, sporting a quality farmer tan, for a textbook David vs. Goliath match. Hatfield was able to make Callux budge before Callux overpowered him, and then Hatfield came back with some flashy offense, including a quesadora DDT and a basement rana. This got the show off to a good start.
2. The Grimy Scots (Hamish Stuart & Grizzly Duncan McBain) beat The Colony (Green Ant & Thief Ant) when Stuart pinned Thief Ant after striking him with a club. The Grimy Scots are a team that Cagematch tells me started out in Virginia two years ago. They both wrestled in kilts (with trunks underneath), and McBain sported Braveheart paint and a large club. He attempted to use it early, but Remsburg stopped him and had it removed, in a spot that played well with the family audience. The Scots kept saying that they wanted to use International Rules, which I guess includes the use of clubs. Decent work, up to the finish where Stuart used a much smaller club to his advantage. The two Scots then did their best to hide the club from Remsburg after kids in the front row told him it was used.
3. Solo Darling beat Molly McCoy with the Sharp Stinger. My first time seeing McCoy wrestle since “The Infinite Gauntlet” in May, and I like her darker version of the Hatfields’ music. Darling brought out Officer Magnum with her for her entrance (because, yes, Magnum is her dog), but he didn’t stick around for the rest of it. A more technical match to start that the crowd only gradually got in to, though the regular fans’ enthusiasm and the use of kicks and bigger moves down the stretch helped motivate them. McCoy came close to winning with a type of body scissors submission, with one of her legs around Darling’s head.
- First of two intermissions, allowing the fans to meet a bunch of the wrestlers, and then...
4. Hallowicked beat Lucas Calhoun with the Rydeen Bomb. Fun match, with both guys looking good, especially Wicked. Calhoun did his best to get babyface fire and hit a superplex towards the end.
5. The Creatures of the Deep (Hermit Crab & Merlok) beat Cornelius Crummels & Sonny Defarge when Hermit Crab made Crummels tap to the Boston Crab. The Creatures assumed the babyface role in what would normally be a Rudo vs. Rudo match. Crummels & Defarge got the upper hand a few times by sneezing in their faces, and Merlok was the hot tag guy. A little sloppy at times, but the crowd was into it.
6. The Whisper beat Danjerhawk with a rollup. Fun, faster-paced action for the crowd. Danjerhawk went for a splash off the top to halfway across the ring, but the Whisper moved out of the way, leading to the finish.
- One more, shorter intermission, and then...
7. John Francis of Coronado, Missile Assault Man, Danjerhawk, and Mick Moretti beat The Crucible (Ophidian, Matt Makowski, Devantes, and Lance Steel w/ E.M. Demorest) via disqualification. My first time seeing the Crucible in action in earnest after their sort-of debut at “The Infinite Gauntlet.” I’m not a Chikaratopia subscriber, so my intake of extra Chikara content is only whatever they put up for free, but I just don’t see how Lance Steel fits into this group. Nor what version of Lance Steel this is, as it’s been years since this character was around. Also, Devantes looked very green in this match, but he’ll get better, and all around is associated with a good crop of talent. Demorest was at ringside just to hold Ophidian’s three point medallions the Golden Opportunity he won in the Infinite Gauntlet. Moretti is back in the states for a lot of wrestling the next few weeks, including a return to King of Trios with the Nations and debuting in PWG as part of the Battle of Los Angeles, and I thought he looked very good here. This was the longest match on the card, with lots of big action as is accustomed to Chikara Atomicos. The Crucible got good heat with their gang mentality, jumping the tecnicos after teasing a one-on-one start to the match, as well as ganging up on one of them at a time. The end came when the tecnicos had it won after Devantes was hit with a Burning Hammer by Missile Assault Man and a Swanton off the top by Razerhawk, but as Razerhawk made the pin, Ophidian slid in and pulled off Razerhawk’s mask for the instant DQ under Chikara rules. An admittedly flat ending to all of the action that preceded it, but their were other plans later.
8. Travis Huckabee beat Mike Quackenbush after a low blow and a headbutt to the chest. Quackenbush was introduced as an Eagle Scout. Huckabee amped up the jerkiness for this crowd, taking a mask from a kid in the front row and tossing it across the gym. Huckabee later tried to run away after getting monkey-flipped around by Quackenbush, only for Quackenbush to quickly retrieve him and toss him back in... only for Huckabee to turn around and stomp on Quackenbush’s hand as it rested on the edge of the ring. The dirty end of this match came after Remsburg was inadvertently knocked down by Quackenbush diving off the top.
- Right afterward, with Quackenbush still nursing his groin, Ophidian came out with his Crucible charges (five of them, including the Whisper) and said he was cashing in his three points... on Quackenbush, for the title of Head Trainer of the Wrestle Factory. A pretty major angle to do on a show like this, as opposed to a bigger show at the Wrestle Factory or elsewhere, but nevertheless, we had a quick bonus main event.
9. Mike Quackenbush beat Ophidian with Quackendriver 3. Very short, but with good drama. Ophidian did his best to finish off Quackenbush early with his Death Grip as his Crucible charges surrounded the ring. On two occasions, Quackebush was able to roll to the outside, only for the Crucible to gang up on him while Ophidian drew away Remsburg’s attention. This caused a bunch of the Chikara tecnicos to run out and fight off the Crucible. Ophidian was thrown off by this, leaving the door open for Quackenbush to win. Ophidian was understandably distraught, but this is his fault for wasting his Golden Opportunity like this.
Fun show overall, adhering to the time and setting well, going just a little over two hours. Nothing blow-away, but pretty easily the best show I’ve ever attended within my South Jersey county (anyone who knows me knows I’ve attended a lot of shows in Voorhees, NJ, but that’s a different neighboring county). My weekend with Chikara will continue later today with the bigger and likely longer Chikarasaurus Rex event at the Wrestle Factory.
