Heartwarming Discovery: UK Woman Finds Book with 40-Year-Old Message to Father
Tumblr media
In a heartwarming twist of fate, a UK woman, Ros Ford, from Alfriston, East Sussex, stumbled upon a precious relic from her past when she purchased a copy of Aldous Huxley's "Texts and Pretexts" for her husband's birthday. Little did she know that this book would turn out to be the exact same copy she had inscribed and gifted to her father nearly four decades ago. Let's dive into this remarkable story that reminds us of the beautiful and unexpected ways life can come full circle. The Unexpected Reunion Ros Ford's enchanting journey began when she decided to purchase a copy of "Texts and Pretexts" as a birthday gift for her husband, Adam. Little did she know that this seemingly ordinary book would carry a remarkable surprise. She ordered the book from ABE Books, and it was sent from a quaint bookshop owned by Michael Moon in Whitehaven, Cumbria. This is where the magic happened. A Message from the Past When Ros received the book and started flipping through its pages, she stumbled upon a handwritten message that instantly transported her back in time. It was her very own handwriting, dedicated to her dear old dad. The message was a heartfelt inscription she had penned almost four decades ago. The shock and delight of this discovery left Ros astounded. A Serendipitous Facebook Post The enchanting tale took a step further when Michael Moon's bookshop decided to share this serendipitous moment on Facebook. They expressed their amazement at the extraordinary coincidence, explaining how they had received an online order for a book from a customer living hundreds of miles away. To their astonishment, it turned out to be not just the same edition but the very copy Ros had given to her father, complete with her handwritten gift inscription. The post celebrated the wonderful journey that old books can embark on, finding new and often perfect homes since the bookshop's inception in 1970. Ros Ford's Reflections When asked about the book and its significance, Ros Ford shared her sentiments with the BBC. She mentioned that she originally purchased the book in 1984 for her father as he was heading into retirement. She thought it would be a beautiful way for him to reflect on life during his retirement years. However, it was a completely unrelated event that prompted her to think about the book again. On her husband's 83rd birthday, she decided to revisit the idea of gifting "Texts and Pretexts." To her surprise, the book that arrived came from Michael Moon's bookshop, making the story come full circle. A Privilege to Pay Twice In an amusing twist of fate, Ros Ford humorously remarked that she now had the privilege of paying for the same book twice. This quirky turn of events only added to the charm of the story, highlighting the unpredictable and delightful ways life can surprise us. Conclusion The story of Ros Ford's book discovery is a heartwarming reminder of the beauty of serendipity and the unexpected ways in which our past can resurface in the present. It also underscores the enduring power of literature to connect us with cherished memories and loved ones. In a world where everything seems to move at lightning speed, such stories remind us to slow down and appreciate the small, magical moments that life has to offer. #LifeTimeAchievementAward @omarosa - you alreadyyy know, so publicly I’ll just say #THANKYOU ‼️ • Over the course of my 15 year “Celebrity” Hairstylist & Makeup Artist career, I’ve been blessed to work with some amazing talent!!! Those whom I’ve served as a “personal” (meaning, I’ve traveled with them exclusively and served as Creative Director for their GLAM), has been an even greater blessing - because we’ve built bonds and relationship that is truly #FamilyStatus They’ve also had my best interest at heart over the years. Pushing and encouraging me to peruse ALL the things I moved to Hollywood for: Hair, makeup, singing, acting, voice-overs, etc. • @Omarosa has certainly been in my corner 100% since day one, when we bonded over attending an HBCU! #FullCircleMoment - again! It makes complete sense that my first Broadway show I see after being stuck inside for 16 months is a play by a Black person (@passoverbway by Antoinette Nwandu), especially since the last Broadway show I saw before the pandemic was a play written by a Black person (“Slave Play” by @jeremyoharris). On top of that, the play is at the AUGUST WILSON Theatre! If that’s not Black AF for you, then I don’t know what to tell y’all. Full circle ⭕️ moment. Y’all… Pass Over was GREAT! I was laughing, gasping, upset, shocked, near tears and everything in between. The cast was phenomenal and the story was extremely compelling. I felt like I’ve seen those characters on the streets of Harlem. I believe I will look at those people differently now because I know they have stories untold and unknowing to the person walking pass them. My whole experience last night was a hoot! The moment the announcer welcomed the audience to the show, we all started applauding for at least 30 seconds. Every time the announcer tried to tell us to silence our phones, people got excited about that and began applauding again! 😂😂😂 At the end of the show, we gave the cast two rounds of standing ovation. We applauded for them, the production and the realization that we all are finally back where we all wanted to be: the theatre. You don’t realize how much you miss something until it’s taken from you and it’s gone. I missed live theatre. I missed losing myself in the work being done onstage. I missed the gratifying feeling I get after the show. When I walked outside to the hustle and bustle of Times Square, I said to myself, “Oh my God, I missed Broadway. My God, I’m really blessed to live in New York City.” There are many things to complain about when it pertains to NYC to the point it could fill an encyclopedia. However, for this Florida girl who dreamt since she was 8 years old about living in NYC, this city can be exhilarating. I can tell my 8-year-old that I did it! Go see PASS OVER, y’all! Absolutely fabulous! • • • #passover @broadwayblack #broadway #nyc #livingmybestlife #BlackArt #BlackExcellence #BlackAF #empirestateofmind #bigdreams #fullcirclemoment #BlackJoy #BlackPlays (at August Wilson Theatre on Broadway) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSUYMVwnzXI/?utm_medium=tumblr

I remember when I was the one on the OTHER side of the bar....⁣ I’d literally look up from all the drinks & juices & smoothies lined up that I had to make for our customers...⁣ & I’d PICTURE myself on the other side.⁣ I’d IMAGINE myself coming in on a beautiful quiet morning to “clock in” on my OWN time...⁣ & at my OWN pace...⁣ I’d picture sitting down with an americano or almond milk latte- made with love & care by the baristas behind the bar....⁣ Cause see,⁣ I ABSOLUTELY loved making drinks for people❤️ I just didn’t like that when it came to making my OWN drinks, I’d have to do it in a rush, drink it in a rush, and get no time to sit, sip, and ENJOY☕️⁣ ⁣ I worked BEHIND the bar like that for years...but every single day- I’d imagine the day that I wouldn’t have to.⁣ I’d VISUALIZE the day when I wouldn’t be broke & taking every shift I possibly could just to cover the cost of groceries & bills...⁣ I’d PICTURE the day in my head, when I’d stroll into “work” looking all cute & made up- cause I didn’t have to leave my house in a hurry...⁣ ⁣ And doing that all made it SO freaking real.⁣ Doing that- made it hurt just a little less,😆⁣ When I’d go home with sore feet & absolutely no more energy from serving so many people all day....⁣ ⁣ Ya see, yesterday I came back to the coffee bar I used to work at. ⁣ I came in with my work in hand, laptop in my bag, lookin’ all cute☺️ & sat down at a quiet table by the window-⁣ I even got to sit down with a friend who’s ALSO a coach💗⁣ And as I sat there for a moment,⁣ I realized that I was finally sitting, sipping slow, and getting a chance to ENJOY that perfectly made almond milk latte...⁣ ⁣ #fullcirclemoment⁣ ⁣ This is the life, the DREAM that I’ve been able to turn into a REALITY- & all because of coaching.✨ (at Herban Market) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Rk5C3BJ8X/?igshid=18u69ws8o4okj

Oh WOW! I'm so VERY excited to share my fun news! I have designed a fun homewares range for @house.online which will be available later this year! It's so exciting because I am donating ALL my proceeds to @tereraitrent to help educate girls in Zimbabwe. Tererai was @oprah's all time favorite guest on her 25 years in television because of her passion and determination to break the cycle of poverty and lack of education that had been passed down generation after generation in her family and culture. It thrills me that I am having a beautiful full circle moment because Oprah inspired me years before we ever met to have some financial independence and now because of that inspiration I am able to give back. Pure grace. Thank you Oprah and thank you Tererai and thanks to House For believing in my project and running with me!!!
