Bond ( Mike Wheeler x Reader)
prompt; basically the reader’s dad owns an auto repair shop, and she stole one of the cars to help the party out with El and ends up getting grounded. To apologize, after being ignored on the walkie talkies all day, Mike climbs into her room late at night to fix things.
(plus the party comes to help.)
-
“You’re grounded.”
All at once, emotions you didn’t believe could mix without contradicting fueled in your gut as you laid on your bed with a scowl while writing in your journal, constantly pausing to wipe at your eyes as you refused to let any satisfaction come to whoever bestowed this future upon you.
Grounded. You, A’s and B’s, always behaving in school, never a single detentions, suspension or expulsion, nothing. Grounded, grounded, grounded!
“Ugh! This is so.. unbelievably fair!” You shouted to yourself as you rolled off your bed and sat at your desk, staring at the computer with a glare. Normally you’d be playing mine sweeper or even trying to see how many times you could make the calculator hit a dead end with an error by dividing by zero or spamming the numbers.
Hell you wouldn’t even be locked up in your home/auto-mechanic shot if you hadn’t stolen that car from the shop. You wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t met Will in third grade, and you decinetely wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for-
“[Name]?? [Name], it’s me-“
Mike.
“Mike..” You mumbled bitterely glancing to the Walkie-talkie placed on the shelf above your desk, listening to the static ring now in the channel. Maybe he’d given up-
“[Name]! I know you’re on this channel, I just wanted to check in. Please answer me.”
“Just leave..” You mumbled as though he could hear you, standing and grabbing the talkie before sitting on your bed. You sat and picked at the spine of your notebook, the spiral untangled and poking out easily scraping your arm inbetween classes and even in the class itself.
“[Name] I’m not leaving until you answer.”
You let out a grumble as you continued to listen to his pleading as you fiddled with useless objects, listening to him chant your name over and over. Finally did you pull out the long antenna and press the red button did you speak to the curly haired boy.
“[Name], [Name],[Name]-“
“Mike, shut up. I’m not in the mood for more of your bullshit.”
He interjected before you could even disconnect from the channel.
“[Name], please! I’m worried, you didn’t come to school today, and.. I saw how mad your dad was at you last night and just- I’m sorry.”
“Mike sorry doesn’t remove me from my house. I’m grounded for two weeks because of your- dumb shenanigans with Eleven!”
“They’re not dumb-“
“I dont care what you think they are! I’m done being around just for your convenience, goodbye, Michael.”
And with that you switched to a blank channel and lowered the antenna with a frown. You felt tired, angry, sad. You needed to just let these feelings out. You slammed your head onto the biggest pillow you had and let out a throat-tearing scream as you felt the tears make marks on your pillow. You probably just ruined everything between you and Mike and the party..
“You just insulted the guy you like, idiot..and lost one of your best friends most likely..” You mumbled to yourself rolling onto your side before closing your eyes trying to fall asleep.
-
“Guys.. what do I do?” Mike panicked with two hands pulling through his curly hair as he paced between his friends in his basement with wide eyes.
“Mike, chill! [Name] can’t be that mad at you!” Lucas said brushing the issue off before turning to grab another slice of pizza.
“She called me Michael.” Mike deadpanned with a sad glare as he collapsed onto a bean bag, draping an arm over his eyes.
“It’s hopeless... she’ll never forgive me.”
“Mike.. don’t give up.” A soft voice came from across the room, causing Mike to shoot up and stare at El with as much shock as everyone else in his basement.
“She likes you, alot Mike.. You need to do this in person, not behind a speaker..” Eleven said softly, offering him a small smile.
“El’s right, Mike. Go see your damsel in distress, we’ll cover for you.” Lucas added with a grin, getting a nod of agreement of some form from everyone.
Mile nodded with a small smile and ran up the steps and out the door, his heart sounding in his ears as he ran to his garage and snatched his bike off the ground before pedalling down the street with a determined stare as he saw your house upcoming. You two didn’t live too far but no matter where you were, if you weren’t together, you’d seem like you were never here. You were somewhere miles and miles away, beyond oceans.
With heavy breaths he threw his bike down into your yard and bent down to pick up rocks, collecting them in his pockets, he began throwing them at your window with a wide stare. Eventually he ran out and as he searched around, he stiffened at the bump against his head as he loked to your window to see you peeking out and watching him on your lawn.
“[Name]-!”
“I thought I made myself clear, Michael.” You said with a glare.
“[Name].. I understand, and I’m sorry...I was being a douche and an idiot thinking we’d get off scott free because we made you steal one of your dad’s cars.. I understand why you’re mad, but talking this out in person rather than over a talkie or even avoiding eachother won’t resolve this.. so please let me in? I want to fix this..” He said genuinely, giving you a sweet smile.
“Fine.” You huffed with a hesitant stare of your own appearing before you disappeared and came back throwing out the foldable ladder to Mike, waiting on the edge of your bed for him to climb into your room.
He noticed your conflicted expression and sat beside you, placing a hand on your shoulder calmly, “[Name].. can I say something..?”
“You just did, but go ahead.” You chuckled bitterly.
“[Name], since we met in third grade.. I.. I had the best time in life. You got me into DND and you even inspire me with how couragous and bold you are against people who bother us at school, hell even with the demodogs, you beat their ass! I.. I realized how much you meant to me so long ago, and with all this extra conflict I just wanted to make this easy and sit down and tell you. [Name], you changed my life so much, for the better of course, you make me truly happy.. and I was wondering if you wanted to uhm.. go out with me? Because I like.. you.. a lot.” His face flushed red and you smile before grabbing his hands in your own, staring into his brown eyes as he desperately searched yours for an answer.
With a chuckle you pressed your lips to his forming a small chaste kiss, pulling back to reveal a pink tint of your own. Mike swore his heart was about to come out of his throat and explode just then, but he tried to keep his composure.
“Is that a yes..?”
“Yes, Mike.” You said softly, moving a hand through his curls with calm eyes. He smiled now, his grin growing as soon as you called him Mike again.
“Great! Well I was thinking after you get ungrounded, you could uh maybe.. like uhm.. go to this drive-in theater? It’s down near the school and we could bike there together! Unless we have to drive.. but I promise no cars can be involved if they don’t have to be.. uhm..That could be our first-“
“Date..” you finished with a smile hugging him slowly, him taking no hesitation in holding you as well.
“I’d love to Mike, as long as it’s with you, I’m more than happy to..”
“Then if you’re happy? Maybe I can get a few more kisses?” He offered pulling back with a shit wating grin, getting a laugh from you in return.
“[Name] [MiddleName] [Surname]! Why in the world is there a random bike in our lawn?!” Your father shouted, his booming footsteps echoing in the stairwell.
“ShiT-“

Switch to Premium comfort with ZETOR MAJOR HS Series tractors
ZETOR North America has launched the MAJOR HS Series tractors to the general public. The new tractors meet the requirements of the most demanding customer, bringing modern Power Shuttle  transmission technology, hydraulic independent PTO and Premium Cab layout to the customer while providing  maximum operator comfort. Zetor North America showcased 2 of there three new HS Major Series tractors at the 2019’ National Farm Machinery Show (NFMS) held in Louisville, Kentucky.
Tumblr media
Zetor worldwide launched the Major Series CL tractors in 2013 and immediately, it became one of the the fastest selling tractors in the Zetor tractor line-up.  With its simplistic design, versatility and low operating cost the Major Series has demanded the addition of a Power Shuttle transmission to serve the fast growing needs of various economies.
“Until the end of 2017’, the MAJOR Series was only available with a 12F/12R synchronized mechanical shuttle transmission and a top transport speed of 19 MPH.  This made the tractor a simple, but resistant hard worker,” says Mike Boucher, Director of Sales & Operations, ZETOR NORTH AMERICA.
In 2018’ the MAJOR Series was extended adding two new models, the HS65 and the HS80 with a Power Shuttle transmission with electro-hydraulic engagement of the PTO.  By adding new models to the Major Series line-up, Zetor North America offers more options to fill the need of its customers while at the same time bringing new buyers to the Zetor line of tractors.
The new HS65 and HS80 model tractors feature a new TIER 4 water cooled, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine in 67HP and 80HP with a discplacement of 2.9 liters with a high pressure common rail fuel injection system.  Neither the HS65 nor the HS80 require DEF, thanks to the Catalyst DOC emissions, eliminates the need for diesel exhaust fluid or a DPF filter.
New for 2019’ Zetor North America offers a 3rd model to the MAJOR HS Series in 74HP with the addition of the HS75 with all the same characteristics of the HS65 plus a standard Air-Ride phnematic-suspension seat with swivel, reclining/for and aft adjustments.
Tumblr media
The new HS80 tractor features 24F and 12R speeds with a Power Shuttle reverser.  Forward speed is multiplied by a 2-speed Hi/Lo Powershift with the activation of a button located on the 4-speed shift knob plus Zetor’s patented PowerClutch™ which enables the operator to shift through the 4-speed transmission while never having to depress the tractors clutch pedal simply by depressing a switch on the front side of the shift knob.  The HS80 has a top transport speed of 25 MPH, a full 9 MPH faster than the CL model.  Creeper speeds are standard on the HS80 with 6-working gears between 2.48 MPH and 7.45 MPH giving the operator ample choices to select from.
The new hydraulic system features an impressive 3-point hitch lift capacity of 7,418 Lbs. to full height on the HS80 with draft/position and mix controls plus 2-rear remote valves with an optional 3rd valve either factory or dealer installed on all HS models plus a free zero return coupler for implements that require a case drain on the HS80.
Tumblr media
All MAJOR HS models come factory equipped with an All Weather Climate controlled Cab including air conditioning and heater.  The HS65/HS75 tractor models are equipped with tilt steering where as the HS80 tractor features both telescopic and tilt steering  with an air-ride pneumatic-suspension seat with swivel, reclining/for and aft adjustments and optional on the HS65.  An optional mechanical-suspension seat is available for the HS80 and HS75 from Zetor North America.  The Cab controls are ergonomically designed with comfort in mind and easily accessible with multiple storage compartments, a tool box and beverage holder.  A foldable instructor seat is standard on the HS80 and features retractable seatbelts for all models as standard equipment.
All MAJOR HS models come with front and rear lighting, Safety lighting, horn, Am/FM/ stereo, left/right mirrors, front/rear wipers and entrance steps to enter the Cab either on the left or right side.  The rear window, both doors and corner windows are locking to prevent unlawful entry.
The new HS Series tractors are available with Zetor Front End Loader Systems.  The front end loader for the HS65/HS75 is mechanical self leveling (MSL) with a 78” skid steer attaching system where as the loaders for the HS80 are offered in both (MSL and NSL) with either the skid steer attachment system or the Euro Global carrier attaching system with a 73” or 85” bucket.  Pivoting front fenders, CAT II front 3-point hitch with or without PTO and a locking fuel cap are other options available for the HS80.  Rear wheel weights and front weights are available as an option for all MAJOR HS Series tractors.
Tumblr media
The new Major HS Series tractors are the result of customers comments and request for a Power Shuttle Utility Class tractor that can perform like larger agriculture tractors says “Mike Boucher”, but in small and confined areas such as landscaping, poultry, dairy, municipalities, golf courses, hobby farms and many other duties these versatile tractors can deliver in.

2021 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross BS6 Review: The Gentle Giant
2021 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross BS6 Review: The Gentle Giant
Tumblr media
What happens when you leave boys alone with something like the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Well! Most certainly your mother is not going to be happy about what all’s happening behind her back. And today I am sure my mother is going to cross her threshold of patience, after reading this very review. So, I thought it would be a good idea to apologise to her in advance! One just can’t help it with the V-Cross. After all, it belongs in the wild, doesn’t it?
Also Read: 2021 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross: All You Need To Know
Off-Road
Tumblr media
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is phenomenal at off-roading, so much so that you won’t step back before throwing anything at it.
Yes! It’s off the road where the V-Cross is in its element, so much so that you won’t step back before throwing anything at it. Even I didn’t. The location we were headed to offers long highway stretches, twisties, sharp corners and dips in the Arawali range on the way, leading to this hard-core, natural off-road terrain, just the perfect course for the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. And with us is the six-speed manual iteration mated to the new 1.9-litre BS6 engine, which we haven’t tested before.
Tumblr media
Be it in 4H or 4L you just don’t worry about the momentum, there’s always enough of it.
This thing just glides over anything and everything. Be it in 4H or 4L you just don’t worry about the momentum, there’s enough of it. In 4L and it holds the revs nice and tight at 2,000 rpm giving you enough push, and I don’t really worry about the approach and departure angle because it goes over everything without breaking a sweat. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the mid-angle because it has got a big wheelbase, so that is something you have to look out for. But then, the SUV gets underbody protection, so it isn’t much of a hassle there.
Tumblr media
Off-roading ability is phenomenal and if you plan to do it often, just pick this manual V-Cross.
Yes! It’s a cakewalk for the V-Cross on the rough. Off-roading ability is phenomenal and if you plan to do it often, just pick this manual over the range-topping automatic that we drove back in 2019. Don’t get me wrong, even the Automatic variant is no less of a hero, just that you feel more in command when driving the manual variant.
Tumblr media
It can nearly go swimming with a water wading capability of over 500 mm and so we didn’t mind being a water child.
Even on our way here, 4H served pretty well on inclines, dips, slush, sand or whatever came under it. Nothing seems challenging. If anything, it sort of overwhelms you, going beyond your expectations and that’s quite reassuring. It’s like those solid woodland boots. Looks tough and stylish, and you barely feel the surface. Then, it can nearly go swimming with a water wading capability of over 500 mm and so we didn’t mind being a water child and having our share of fun splashing around.
Performance & Dynamics

The 1.9-litre, four-cylinder BS6 diesel mill mated to this six-speed manual transmission and we quite like how it delivers.

Now manual coupled with this robust shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system is more promising in even highway munching as it is off the road! The 1.9-litre, four-cylinder BS6 diesel mill mated to this six-speed manual transmission, belts out a healthy 160 bhp at 3,500 rpm and 360 Nm of peak torque accessible right from 2,000 rpm. And we quite like how it delivers.
Tumblr media
The new V-Cross with this new 1.9-litre oil burner is more promising in even highway munching as it is off the road.
The meaty low-end torque is accessed nice and low at around 2,000 rpm in first and second gears which are short and give you instant access to that torque. And then in following gears, third, fourth and so on, you can push it higher up the rev band at around 4,000 rpm which is its happy zone and that makes it an effortless cruiser. The mid-range is really good. The top-end though is a bit flat and getting up to higher triple-digit speeds will take some time. But then it’s the V-Cross and we don’t want to hustle around with. It prefers being driven in a relaxed manner and you build up on speed gradually.
Tumblr media
It feels more at ease than the 2.5-litre unit and you don’t need to work too much with the gears, very suitable for highway cruising.
In fact, this 1.9-litre oil burner feels more at ease than the 2.5-litre unit where getting momentum and instant low-end push was a constant struggle. Well! That engine has been axed down post BS6 regulations rollout. The best part here! You don’t need working with gears too much, again thanks to that low-end torque that allows you cruise in 4H or even 2H at lower speeds and higher gears. So even 40 kmph in top gear is feasible without much fuss, and you don’t really need to drop down speeds any further. Suspension brings it about for you.
Tumblr media
Leaf springs at the rear is an aid when that bed is fully loaded at up to 215 kg which is the prescribed limit.
And speaking of suspension, there is high ride independent double wishbone coil spring upfront, tall enough for ample articulation and play, while soft ride leaf spring at the rear doesn’t make ride bumpy or too floaty and the leaf spring is an aid when that bed is fully loaded at up to 215 kg which is the prescribed limit. Well! That is a boon, especially on the road.
Tumblr media
It’s proportions and weight is very evident behind the wheel.
It tips the scales at just less than 2 tonnes and stretches over 5.2 metres in length and all that mass and size is very evident behind the wheel. But that bulky SUV feel is what owners really want in something like this and still for the size it holds quite well around bends and corners and electronics do come to your advantage. You feel it even more with an unladen deck and a rear section that’s slide happy, even with a gentle shove on the pedal. The electronics do keep a check here.
Tumblr media
The steering feels a bit cumbersome at lower speeds, but gives required heft and feedback when pushing hard.
The steering feels cumbersome at lower speeds but will give you required heft and feedback when pushing hard and the nose stays in right direction. Even sharp curves are easily dealt and while you do keep a check on speed while cornering hard, it behaves well and doesn’t float much on the highway. You do miss the three-blink lane departure function on the switch though.
Tumblr media
Body rolls and lateral movements aren’t actually unnerving as the chassis is stable but passengers do feel it.
But then lateral movements even on small undulations and while changing lanes are inevitable, courtesy its tad soft sprung suspension. They actually aren’t unnerving as the chassis is stable but passengers do feel it. The ride quality though is plush and that slight soft edge in the suspension setup is helpful here. Even the sharpest of bumps don’t feel as sharp and it takes every terrain in its stride, simply gliding over those beaten tarmac, pebbly roads or potholes. The 18-inch wheels with adequately tall profile do add up as well.
Design
Tumblr media
The next-generation V-Cross looks more angular, but this still looks truly handsome.
But what hasn’t changed at all is the way it looks and that’s not exactly a bad thing. Well because we have always loved its daunting and intimidating demeanour. Agreed! The next-generation V-Cross looks more angular and it’s on sale globally, will eventually come to India and you’ll like that even more. But this! It looks truly handsome and while I am not a big fan of chrome, but healthy dose of it on its face goes pretty well with this body colour – Black Mica. And our test car gets this additional chrome package. So around headlights you have got chrome, also on wing mirrors and doors and even at the rear, around taillights and boot lid. And as said, it doesn’t look flashy at all looks quite good in fact.

Interior
Tumblr media
The lacklustre feel inside the cabin is very evident and it misses out heavily on creature comforts front.
That being said, where it most certainly should have got an upgrade is inside the cabin. All you get is a very functional 7.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity and stereo options. So no Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or even in-built navigation. Other things we sorely missed having were rear air-con vents, power adjustable seats, auto-dimming mirror and perhaps wee bit of soft-touch material at least at frequent touchpoints like centre and door armrests. Even leatherette seats and additional roof mounted speakers are available only on the top-end Z-Prestige Automatic variant. The manual with us is available only on the Z 4×4 trim, a lower variant.
Tumblr media
No rear air-con vents at the rear and backrest angle could have been improved, offers decent thigh support though.
So in here, all you get are six-speakers, power adjustable and foldable wing mirrors auto climate control and of course power windows but with just single touch down operation for driver side. Well it does get parking sensors now that the BS4 model didn’t have in addition to the reverse camera, and it’s quite handy while parking or reversing this mammoth of an SUV. But quite honestly! You have all of these even in a premium hatchback nowadays.
Something that needs shelling out close to 24 lakh rupees, has to be up on the feel good quotient and offer few more creature comforts.
Safety Features
Tumblr media
It gets six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Descent Control and Brake Override System among others.
On the safety side, you do get six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Descent Control and Brake Override System among others and they do support you as already mentioned. But disc brakes are there only on the front while you get standard drum at the rear. It would have been nice to have discs at all corners offering you a bit better bite, given its weight and size. Oh wow! That Rhymes.
Verdict
Tumblr media
This 1.9-litre BS6 engine has upped its credentials both off-road and on the highway compared to the previous 2.5-litre engine.
Well the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is not for everyone but still, it is no surprise why it has such a cult following. And hundreds of queries for the BS6 version on its fan pages across social media platforms will tell you the same. Have to say that this 1.9-litre BS6 version has upped its credentials both off-road and on the highway compared to the previous 2.5-litre engine. It’s like the Hulk from ‘Avengers End Game’. Still does the job quite handsomely when the going gets tough, but now remains poised and maintains its composure. And then, it’s still around ₹ 10 lakh less expensive than the 4×4 Endeavour and Fortuner.
Tumblr media
It can be your second car for highway munching or to satisfy your adventurous or wanderer streak.

The House on Deer Creek Road: Part 6
By J. L. Thurston
She scrambled on her knees away from me as though I’d cut her. I watched her in stunned silence as she screamed and pulled her shirt off. Blood was pouring down her back from three long gashes.
The floorboards by the windows began to creak. Shirtless, bleeding, Nyla ran to the front door. I grabbed Jane, now screaming in a confused wail, and nearly forgot to move around the hole in the floor in the entryway. Nyla was twisting the knob, crying, making sounds I’d never heard people make before. Terror sounds. The door wasn’t opening. I pushed her aside and tried the knob. It wouldn’t turn.
Nyla was babbling. She was going on about the shadow creature and how it was going to kill us all. Jane was crying, pulling at my hair and my shirt. I felt like she was trying to get away.
I didn’t know what to do. I could hardly breathe. There was a tension around my ribs that wouldn’t let me inhale all the way.
Slowly, the once-hidden door in the entry hallway opened. The door had been locked. The door had been hidden behind a cabinet until Nyla’s brothers helped me move it.
I held my breath. I thought for a wild moment that my mother was going to come out from behind the door.
A smell filled my senses. Pungent, sharp, brackish. It was the smell of mold and dust and dead things. Nyla gagged through her sobs. I walked forward. She begged me to return to her.
I was sleepwalking. Dreaming. I was completely detached from my body. I knew I held my baby in my arms, and that I was supposed to protect her, but I also wanted to see where the door led. Part of me already had a solid guess.
Wooden steps leading down into the basement were illuminated by a light bulb on a chain. Hanging just above the bulb, tied by what was left of his tail, was Scarecrow. His single eye bulged. He had died with a look of surprise on his unfortunate face.
Pressing my wrist to my nose, I wished I didn’t have to smell the stench of my most unlucky little kitty. Part of me was horrified for him. Part of me knew this basement held more than just a dead cat.
I could see a table from the top of the stairs once I tore my eyes away from poor Scarecrow. The table wasn’t large. Probably one of those foldable card tables. It was draped with a black cloth. White sigils were smeared upon it. A bowl of salt, bundles of herbs, and crystals were placed strategically on the table.
Willow, don’t forget to say the blessing.
A decorative knife gleamed in the lights. The athame. A witch’s knife, for cutting and crushing ingredients. There was a bundle on the table. Familiar though I’d never seen it like that before. It was a small bundle, wrapped in black velvet cloth. Even from the top of the stairs I could see the smudges, telltale signs that at one point the bundle had been wet and the viscous fluid had seeped all around it on the table and dried.
It was the source of the worst of the smell.
I was moving forward. Jane was fighting to get away, Nyla was begging for me to come back. I was at the bottom of the stairs before she raised enough courage to follow me. She yanked on my arm. Her hands were cold. I thought that was odd, considering how hard her heart must have been pumping. Real fear had struck her cold. Her face was ashen. A small thought inside me wondered if she would pass out.
I was in shock. I see that now. But at the time, I could do nothing but follow my body as it operated on its own.
I was reaching toward the bundle on the table. My mother’s altar. Her sacrificial place.
Just the legs of the spider, Willow. It’s best to pluck them while the creature is still alive.
The basement door shut. I turned, feeling as though I was waking from a dream. Aunt Pat was there. I hadn’t even heard her come in.
Nyla was thanking her endlessly. “Thank God, you’re here. Thank God, thank God.”
Aunt Pat went down the steps, eyes going from the bundle on the altar to me, to Jane, to Nyla. Sweet, strong, smart Nyla. She was better than me. She knew what was best for us. She ran up the steps and tried to get out. But Aunt Pat had locked the basement door. I watched her slide the old skeleton key into her jeans pocket.
I was cold. So cold with all my cold thoughts. I could hear the floorboards above our heads in that dank, smelly basement creak, creak, creaking. But Nyla was not going to roll over and die. She ran to Aunt Pat. Her color had returned. She was shouting, demanding to be let out. Demanding to go home.
Aunt Pat was already holding the athame. She plunged it into Nyla’s chest, using the same motion a boxer would use to punch. It hit Nyla so hard she fell down, her face slackening.
I screamed. I almost dropped Jane. Aunt Pat ripped the baby from my arms.
“You stay right there or I’ll slit her throat!” she shouted at me.
I realized I was saying, “Okay, okay, okay.”
Confusion. Utter, complete confusion. My mind couldn’t make sense of what I was seeing. I was trying to focus, trying to think. Aunt Pat had killed Nyla. She pulled the athame from my dear, sweet Nyla’s chest and held it to Jane’s tiny, vulnerable neck. Nyla’s blood was all over Pat’s hands, all over Jane’s onesie.
I shivered. I watched Pat lower Jane to the altar. Pat’s fingers smeared blood on Jane’s face.
Sacrifices must be anointed with blood, Willow. Never forget that.
But Pat was going back to Nyla, pushing her fingers into my sweet Nyla’s wound and rubbing the blood on her own face.
“I anoint my flesh,” Pat said, returning to the altar. “So, I prepare this vessel for your taking, Lord. Possess me and give me what I ask. In return, I will give you the life of this mother, the one who’s infant you’ve already claimed.”
Pat reached forward and pulled the smudged velvet cloth away. I already knew what was there. The poor, tiny thing. Green and blackened flesh, falling away from the delicate little bones. The largest part of it was the head, still somewhat discernable. I could still see tufts of her baby fine blonde hair.
Creak, creak, creak. On the basement stairs. Pat was grunting. A shadow passed through the room. I didn’t care. I couldn’t look away from the baby’s corpse, right next to the living baby, now beet-faced from her unanswered wailing.
The shadow passed over the walls to Pat. For a moment, she stood in total darkness, enveloped by the blackness. She was statuesque, arms out, absorbing the demon that haunted the house.
I knew so many things, so many cold thoughts. I knew that the living infant crying on the altar was not my Jane. The rotting corpse was my baby. I knew that Pat had killed her, sacrificed her, and she needed me to complete her offering to the demon.
I also knew that if I just stood there and let it happen, the living baby would be the next to die.
I rushed forward and wrapped my arms around Pat’s waist. We hit the floor so hard I heard her head smack against the cement. My fingers were in her pocket, extracting the skeleton key. I snatched the crying baby from the altar and pushed myself up the stairs with all my strength.
I needed my keys. They were in my purse on the living room floor. I almost fell into the hole I’d created in the floor, but I dodged it in time. I grabbed my purse and fled to the door. The knob wouldn’t turn.
An inhuman scream erupted from the basement.
It almost sounded like Pat.
I slammed my shoulder into the door. It wouldn’t budge. The giant oval window was my only escape. I pulled my shirt over the crying baby and threw myself through the glass. A thousand cuts slashed across my flesh, and I felt several shards dig deep inside me as I hit the porch floor.
Cold night air blessed me. I was on my feet, running across the yard, towards my truck.
My mind flashed a mental image of every horror movie I’d ever seen when the victim, unable to function properly enough to hold her keys steady, would drop them at the most inopportune moment.
I was not that victim. I was in the truck in a heartbeat. It started right away, and my foot slammed on the pedal so hard that I threw gravel all over the house on my way to the road.
That was the last time I ever saw the house on Deer Creek Road.
***
I did not go to Nyla’s funeral.
I did, however, have to go to court. Several times. The sensational case of the Witch Woman took the nation by storm. While America followed the news feed, I had to watch evidence be presented against the woman who raised me. I had to watch as authorities did everything they could to locate Jane’s real family. I had to testify when all I wanted to do was slit my wrists.
My baby was dead. She had died soon after I gave her to Pat. I was never told exactly what day it would have been, but I do know that it was after my mother’s death. Think about it. That means Pat had gone to the house, she had stepped over her twin sister’s dead body, she had gone down into the basement, and she had sacrificed my baby to a demon.
Then, when I called three months later for my baby back, she panicked and kidnapped someone else’s child. Why? To buy time. To get me in the house. Because the baby wasn’t enough. She needed the blood of the mother, too.
She didn’t tell anyone this. In fact, after that fateful night in the basement, Pat never spoke again. Well, except that one time to me. Hold on, I’m getting there.
The detectives figured out a lot of it, but I knew the rest. I knew that my mother and Pat had conjured a demon. I knew the demon wanted blood. I knew that my life and Jane- the real Jane- would have been payment enough for something big. Pat would have been given a demon’s blessing. Riches, health, magic.
I knew all those things because I was born of a witch, and I was raised of a witch.
And I really hate witches.
But, at the behest of my therapist, I did attempt to speak to Pat once. About a year after she’d been sentenced to the nuthouse prison, I paid her a visit. Only one reporter had found out about it, thank God, but she and her cameraman followed me in. They were buzzed right passed security and allowed as close as Pat’s room door. They couldn’t be let in with all their equipment, but they forced a microphone on me and recorded through the glass. You’ve seen the footage. It’s grainy because the little triangles in the window kept drawing the camera’s focus.
You can’t see from that footage the bugs that lined the walls, but you can hear the tech say, “We just can’t get them to stop coming in. She… calls them.”
Pat never looked at me, that much is clear. But I still could see her eyes. They weren’t Pat’s eyes. I stood in there for a few minutes, breathing, staring, trying to prevent myself from rushing forward and wrapping my hands around her throat. I completely forgot why my therapist said this would be good for me.
This was the last time Pat ever spoke. “Help,” she said. “Help me.”
My tongue was stuck to the roof of my mouth.
“It’s still in me,” she breathed. That part was unclear on the microphone, but to this day I can still hear her words as though she just said them. “We’re trapped. I can’t get it out. I didn’t finish it, so it’s stuck. He won’t let me sleep.”
That was all I could bear. It was time to lower to coffin containing the remains of my former life and move on.
The last thing she ever said, and this got picked up by the mic but because we were opening her room door the camera missed it and that’s why everyone said it’s faked, was, “See you in your dreams.”
It wasn’t the words that got everyone obsessively streaming and discussing the audio. It was the way she said it. The voice wasn’t human at all. No one has ever heard a sound like it. Except me. It was just like the scream I heard from the basement that night. It was the demon’s voice.
So, that’s it. That’s what I went through. It’s been a while, but I still see the therapist. I’m on enough pills to numb most of it, but there are many nights that the cold thoughts won’t go away and I’m stuck with them. Sometimes it helps to light incense. Sometimes it helps to burn lavender. Really, all I care about, all I want you listeners to do for me is, when you go visit the house on Deer Creek Road, call for Bones. If anyone sees him, or catches him, please bring him to me. I really miss my dog.
Thank you, dear reader, for following along this dark and twisted path. May your attic be silent, and may you never feel those soulless eyes as they look upon your sleeping face

#54 for the drabble challenge!!!
WHO’S READY FOR THIS PROMPT TO GETMORE COMPLICATED THAN IT NEEDS TO BE?
54. Why’s there a pregnancy test in the trash rubbish?
We’ve been invited to a party. SH
Yeah, Molly’s. Tonight. JW
Did you get her a gift? I wrote it on the fridge. JW
Yes. SH
Probably. SH
Not sure. SH
I’ll know tonight. SH
John rolled his eyes, tucking his phone into his pocket;he didn’t have the time or patience to deal with his cryptic best friend. Hedoted on Rosie, smiling and blowing raspberries into her skin as he changed herinto her gorgeous lilac party dress, the infant expressing her delight throughadorable squeals. An hour later, they arrived outside Molly Hooper’s flat; shegreeted them with a large smile and warm hug, a glass of wine in one hand.
“Happy Birthday, Molly,” John said, balancing Rosie on hiship as he retrieved her present from the changing bag slung over his shoulder, “sorryabout the wrapping. Someone wanted to lend a hand.”
“Aww, thank you,” Molly giggled, pressing a soft kiss tothe top of Rosie’s head, “help yourself to drinks. Food’s in the kitchen. I’vecordoned off my room if Rosie wants a little sleep.”
“Thanks. Do you mind if I use your bathroom?” He onceagain bounced Rosie, wrinkling his nose pointedly, “nappy emergency.”
“Be my guest.”
He hurried inside, weaving past the drunk party-goersscrambling to coo over the ‘cutest baby ever’ and ducked inside the smallbathroom, breathing a sigh of relief for the moment of peace; honestly, he’donly just arrived. One foldable changing mat and clean nappy later, Rosie wasgood as new.
“There you go, baby girl,” John whispered affectionatelyas he fastened the nappy securely around his daughter, dropping a kiss to hercheek, “ready to slay them all.”
He opened the pedal bin when something caught his eye. Apregnancy test sat atop the waste, it’s positive double lines staring up athim; he knew he should just dump his bag and pretend he hadn’t seen anything. He glanced at Rosie, who was sucking her fingers as she watched him.
“Well,” John finally found his voice, closing the bin. Heapproached the sink and quickly washed his hands, “that’s one hell of abirthday present.”
Twenty minutes later, after successfully settling Rosie inMolly’s bedroom, John finally emerged wearing an expression of stunned horror. He barely noticed he’d wandered over to Sherlock, who was leaning against thewall in the corner of the room. His eyes were fixed on the goofy dance thebirthday girl was engaging in with Greg Lestrade, the two laughing wildly.
“Is this the kind of thing we should be filming?” Sherlockinquired, gesturing his own glass of wine at the foolish couple. He raised aneyebrow, clearly intrigued by the grinding pair’s actions, “it’s only fair. Irecall a certain stag night-”
His glass of wine was removed from his hand and swallowedby the shorter man standing next to him. The shorter man who seemed to behaving some sort of existential crisis; he shook his head, lowering his voice…eventhough the closest person to them was Molly’s elderly great aunt.
“I have to tell you something.”
Sherlock looked far too amused for John’s liking. “That thebirthday girl is pregnant?”
“You know?” John shouted, loud enough to be heard over themusic and earn the momentary attention of Aunt Hillary. He ran a hand over hisface, lowering his voice once more, “how is it you know everything?”
“It’s obvious.”
“Not to me,” he hissed, staring into his empty wine glassas if hoping it would magically refill itself. Shaking his head, he looked upat his friend, “so, what are you, godfather or something?”
“Not exactly…” the detective smirked briefly beforeadding, “she’s not keeping it.”
“What?” John looked over to Molly, then; she was fanningherself and giggling as Greg took a bow and playfully kissed her hand before leavingto fetch drinks, “well, what about…him?”
Sherlock frowned, “who?”
“Greg,” John gestured, growing steadily more annoyed with hisfriend, “it’s his baby too.”
Sherlock looked from the army doctor over to Molly andGreg, a look of utter confusion on his face. After a long pause, a wide grinspread across his face, “that’s…true.”
“Do you think I should say something?”
“Yes, YES!” Sherlock seized his shoulders and beganfrogmarching him towards the kitchen where Molly was currently alone, “talk toher, give her advice or whatever it is you do. Convince her to keep it. You’rea doctor, aren’t you?”
John was too confused to even protest at being shoved insuch a manner, “okay, but why-”
Sherlock gave a final push and John stumbled into thekitchen, finding himself alone with Molly; she was refilling her wine glasswith…apple juice. So, not drunk. He felt slightly better with that knowledgealthough he still had many questions. How far along was she? Did Greg know? Howlong had they been dating? Why did Molly want to terminate her pregnancy? Whywas Sherlock so keen for her to keep it? Was he-
“Oh, hi, John. I didn’t-”
“Why is there a pregnancy test in the rubbish?” Johnblurted out abruptly, causing the pathologist to choke on her sip of applejuice; she gawped at him unblinking, opening and closing her mouth rapidly. Heruffled his hair awkwardly, “I was changing Rosie- I didn’t mean to-”
“It was just a one-off mistake…just five minutes of fun inthe back of an ambulance with a dear friend,” John was unable to refrain fromraising an eyebrow; he didn’t know Greg had it in him. Molly was wringing herhands, watching as John poured himself rather a large glass of wine, “I don’twant to bring a child into the world because of that. It’s not fair. To either ofthem.”
“I understand,” John finally said after swallowing thelast remaining drop of his wine. He approached his friend and gently held hershoulder, smiling, “if there’s anything you need, I’ll always be here for you.”
Molly smiled in return, hugging the army doctor tightly, “thankyou, John. I really appreciate your support.”
“Don’tmention it,” he replied, wondering how he was supposed to reunite Greg andMolly before the birth of their baby.
Soon enough, the party crowd had dispersed until it wasjust John left with Molly, Greg and Sherlock, three people he was determinednot to leave alone under any circumstances; the consulting detective was busytexting whilst Greg bustled around helping Molly fill various rubbish bags, cracking stupid jokes every now and again. John took this as his cue to gatherRosie’s carrier and make his first attempt to leave the expecting parentsalone.
“Right, Sherlock. We’d better go. I’ve got to get Rosieinto bed,” he smiled over at Greg and Molly, praying Sherlock would take thehint. Of course, the super git just shrugged.
“Surely you don’t need me for that.”
John gritted his teeth. “She likes it when you read her astory.”
“So, I’ll read her a story another time.”
“Sherlock!”
“Oh, for God’s sake, I’ll read her a bloody story,” Gregexclaimed, taking the carrier from John’s hands and peering inside to makefaces at the cute youngster. He turned to Molly, winking politely, “thanks fora great time, Molly. See you later.”
John began to protest as Greg left the flat with hisdaughter, although, before he could say anything else, Sherlock was once again manhandling him and marching him out of the flat.
“He’s not the father. Goodbye.”
Sherlock closed the door in John’s face, unable to keepthe smirk off his face at the look on John’s. He turned back to Molly, watchingher hurry around the flat tidying up as she tried to avoid him. Finally, shecould stand the silence no longer and discarded the rubbish bag, running a handthrough her hair.
“Do you have them?” Sherlock reached into his coat pocket, removing the abortion leaflets she’d asked him to collect. He flipped throughthem with a sigh.
“Everything you need to know. The procedure, aftercare…”he trailed off, holding out the papers. Molly swallowed, reaching out; theirfingers brushed briefly and she caught his eye. He smiled although there was nohumour, “I do wish you’d reconsider.”
Tearfully, Molly asked, “why?”
“Why?” He stepped closer, extending his arms as if to holdher but thinking better of it. Instead, he took her hands, pressing her knucklesto his lips, “you’re my family. Ambulance or no ambulance, baby or no baby. You’llalways be my family,” her tears were falling freely now and she pulled himclose, burying her face into his coat for the first time in weeks. He strokedher hair, continuing, “whatever you decide, I’ll always love you and be herefor you. If it is still your wish to go through with-”
“No, no…” Molly shook her head, extracting herself andholding his face in her hands; she sniffed, giving a watery grin, “this is allI’ve ever wanted. You. You’re my family, too. I love you.”
He lifted her into his arms, her legs circling his waist. Sherlockraised an eyebrow, “so, we’re doing this?”
“We’re doing this,” Molly giggled, snogging the breath outof him and professing her undying love between each desperate kiss. Oh yes, best birthday ever.
Two days later, Sherlock returned to Baker Street –slightly dishevelled and giddily happy but otherwise unchanged – to find Johnsitting at the kitchen table surrounded by address books and phone numbers. He wascurrently on the phone, chatting away to Molly’s ex-fiancé.
“…no, Tom. Nothing’s the matter. I just wanted to asksomething…”
“That’s not necessary,” Sherlock commented, hanging hiscoat on the hook outside their flat. John waved a silencing hand in hisdirection.
“Yeah, John from the wedding, that’s right,” the formerarmy doctor replied with a tone that suggested he was slowly losing the will tolive, “I’m calling about Molly Hooper. When did you last have contact with her?”
There was an irritating tap on his shoulder. “John-”
“Noooo, I mean did you get her pregnant-”
This time it was less a tap and more of a shove. “John!”
“What?” John whirled around, the phone still pressed tohis ear.
“I’m the father of Molly’s baby,” Sherlock said, the satisfactionof at last saying the words was almost as fulfilling as the look ofbewilderment on John’s face. He patted his shoulder, “we’re in love, we’regoing to be parents and we couldn’t be happier,” he gestured at the phone, “butdon’t let me disturb you. Carry on.”
The whining drone in John’s ear faded to background noiseas he imagined new and creative ways to murder his very best friend.

Awesome Tech You Can't Buy Yet: This Week's Top Crowdfunding Projects
New Post has been published on https://bestedevices.com/awesome-tech-you-cant-buy-yet-this-weeks-top-crowdfunding-projects.html
Awesome Tech You Can't Buy Yet: This Week's Top Crowdfunding Projects
Around a dozen different crowdfunding campaigns take place on the Internet at any time. Take a stroll through Kickstarter or Indiegogo and you won't find a shortage of strange, useless and downright stupid projects – alongside some real gems. We cut through the fidgety spinners and nervous iPhone cases to summarize this week's most unusual, ambitious, and exciting new crowdfunding projects. Remember that any crowdfunding project – even the one with the best intentions – can fail. So do your homework before issuing a check for the gadget of your dreams.
April 5
Eyesy – video synthesizer
When it comes to creating and mixing sounds, you have countless tools at your disposal. We have musical instruments, MIDI controllers, synthesizers, loop pedals, drum pads and all kinds of digital audio workstations that you can use to mix everything together. But when it comes to visuals, artists don't really have many tools at their disposal. Eyesy wants to change that. It is a video synthesizer that allows you to create reactive graphics that respond to music in real time.
Arebo – full body dryer
Do you know the high-speed “Airblade” blow dryer from Dyson, which dries your hands so quickly that towels are no longer required? Now someone has taken the same concept to the next level and developed a device that blow-dries your entire body and thus makes the use of bath towels unnecessary. Strange? Yes. Tempting? Also yes.
Tau – keychain power bank
This thing has no revolutionary technology under the hood. If you tackle it, it's really just a portable battery. But what makes it brilliant is the fact that it's designed to work like a keychain – making sure you have it with you whenever you leave the house. The best? It also comes with a wall-mounted docking station and makes charging the battery as easy as hanging the keychain. Pretty smart, isn't it?
Astro Slide – 5G smartphone with physical keyboard
Physical keyboards on cell phones are a rarity these days, but apparently there is still a passionate community that keeps them alive. The latest addition to this category is the Astro Slide – a kind of smartphone / laptop hybrid. It not only runs on Android and works like a real smartphone, but also has a pull-out screen on which you can use the phone like a miniature laptop. I'm not going to lie – despite the fact that I know this thing is a typing nightmare, I still want one.
Talobrush – ultra-fast toothbrush
Are you tired of all the squeezing, scrubbing, spitting, rinsing, gargling and flossing that is needed to keep your pearl white hair clean? For decades, the electric toothbrush has been your only use for this tedious task. While these automatically oscillating tooth washers are definitely a step in the right direction, they don't remove the hassle and time spent brushing your teeth. This is where Talobrush comes in. It's a new age toothbrush that (supposedly) ends work in a fraction of the time.
March 29
Supercalla – magnetic, self-organizing charging cable
Cables are an annoying but necessary part of life. No matter how hard you try, they always seem to get tangled and disorganized. But what if they didn't? What if they could organize themselves and stay tidy all the time? This is exactly the idea behind Supercalla – a clever new cable system that snaps together with a series of magnets so that it is always organized.
Hygiene hand – EDC door opener
Thanks to the unprecedented virus outbreak we are currently living in, it may not be 100% safe to touch public door handles and press buttons for a while. So what do you do when you are inevitably in a situation where you have to push a button or pull a handle? Answer: You blow this cute little EDC hook / push button tool out and open the door. I would not be surprised if these things soon appeared everywhere.
Arcade Blaster – FPS Motion Controller
Do you remember the cute handgun controller you played Duck Hunt with in the good old days? Well, that's so on meth. It's a system that lets you get rid of your regular joystick controller and play FPS games by pointing / shooting at a pistol-shaped controller – a controller that's filled with high-precision accelerometers To give you additional accuracy.
Waffle Wow – building block waffle iron
This is perhaps the most brilliant thing I've seen on Kickstarter for months. It is a waffle maker that, thanks to its unique design, creates waffle pieces that can be torn apart to create Lego-like bricks that can then be stacked together into things. I honestly feel cheated that it didn't exist as a child.
Deskspace – relief plate for the lunar surface
Deskspace was created using data from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and shows the topography of the other side of the moon – in high fidelity – using concrete. It's definitely not the most useful thing on this list, but it's certainly a conversation starter. How many people can say that they have a real 3D relief map of the lunar surface in their house?
March 22
Keyboardio Atreus – ultra-minimalistic mechanical keyboard
Kickstarter has done thousands of keyboard projects in the past decade, but this is definitely one of the best ever. It is a wired mechanical keyboard that has been reduced to the essentials without compromising on comfort and performance. Indeed, it is so reduced that, despite the lack of a folding or collapsing function, it is still small and portable enough to fit easily in a backpack.
Photonbar – programmable light wand
One of my favorite Kickstarer projects of all time is the PixelStick: an electrified rail with 200 programmable LEDs, with which you can take the most amazing light painting photos of all time. Photonbar is essentially the same idea, but in a smaller and somewhat less cumbersome form factor – and also at a significantly lower price. If you are interested in creative photography, you should definitely take a look at this thing.
Sensforce Chair Extreme – haptic feedback gaming chair
Modern video games are pretty much chosen in terms of picture and sound, but when it comes to physical feelings, they're still relatively boring. The best we get is really just vibrating controllers. Sensforce wants to change this with an innovative new haptic gaming chair that vibrates in three different zones. The coolest thing about it is that it relies solely on audio signals, so you don't need any special drivers or plugins to work with your system. Just plug it in and let's go!
The Babymaker – secret electric racing bike
There are umpteen e-bike projects on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, but only a few are as sophisticated as this one. It is an e-bike that intentionally does not look like an e-bike, but still offers all the advantages of an e-bike. The Babymaker's battery is hidden in its normal-looking frame and has variable pedal support – but this is where the modern bells and whistles stop. You won't find any unnecessary mobile apps or annoying software updates on this bike, and that's on purpose.
Techwrap – electronic multi-purpose gear protection
This thing is just awesome. It's easy, because all it really is is a well-designed cloth that you can use to wrap your camera equipment and electronics. It is brilliant because this simple design enables it to perform multiple functions. It can be a waterproof / dirt-repellent gear packaging, a platform for your lenses, or even a microfiber cleaning cloth. It is entirely up to you and can be changed at any time.
March, 15
Tucktek – origami kayak
Kayaking is amazing, but one of the big downsides of the sport is the cumbersome nature of the equipment. To participate, you usually need to buy special frames for your car to transport them. But what if it didn't have to be that way? What if your kayak could fit in the trunk of your car? This is exactly the idea behind Tucktek's foldable kayak. Thanks to some origami magic, this little sucker collapses into a shape that is so small that you can easily install three of them in a normal trunk.
Oros Apparel – Airgel-insulated outerwear
In general, most insulated jackets use animal-derived materials (or are inspired by them) – such as wool and down. But while natural materials certainly do the trick, there are certain artificial materials that are far better insulators. Take airgel for example. Airgel is a synthetic substance that is obtained from a gel that weighs almost nothing and yet has the lowest thermal conductivity of all available materials. In fact, it's so good that NASA uses airgel as the primary thermal insulation in spacesuits – and now Oros has figured out how to put it in a number of jackets.
Himo – ultra compact folding e-bike
Folding bikes keep getting better and at this point I'm not sure how it's possible. This latest entry in the category is called Himo and is not only smaller than any other folding bike I've ever seen, but also fully electric. If you live in a place where there are hardly any suitable bicycle parking spaces, or if you are only worried about thieves, this is ideal. Instead of locking it, you can simply fold up the frame, pick up the entire bike, and carry it to the safety of your office or home. Pretty neat, isn't it?
Atypical cosmetics – AI-curated skin care
Every skin is different. Why are skin care products basically still a one-size-fits-all solution? Sure, there are some brand-to-brand and formula-to-formula differences, but lotions and moisturizers definitely don't consider your exact needs. Atypical cosmetics wants to change that and has an A.I. Supported customization platform to make this possible.
A-Zero – compostable plastic bags
There is currently a big movement going on to end the use of single-use plastic, but while it is all good and beautiful, there is no denying that plastic bags are still extremely useful and practical for certain situations. But what if you could still get all this ease and convenience without harming the planet? This is exactly the goal of A-Zero bags. They are made from plant cellulose and are broken down quickly after being thrown away.
8th of March
Prompt – eye-free watch
I'm kind of obsessed with the concept behind this watch. It's designed to be completely “eye-free” – so you don't have to look at it to determine the time. Instead, hold your finger on your face and there will be a brief burst of haptic vibrations telling you what time it is. The idea is that since there is no screen and you can check it without looking at it, you can be present in conversations and meetings.
Fire ant – fire starter for Swiss Army Knives
This thing is definitely one of the most brilliant products I've ever seen on Kickstarter. Do you know all the empty space in the corkscrew of a Swiss Army knife? The fire ant fills this room with something extremely useful: an ultra-compact fire start kit. The outer shell, which is screwed neatly into the corkscrew, consists partly of scale covered with wax. If you remove that, you'll find a flint that you can hit the back of your knife to create a spark that ignites the above-mentioned tinder. How awesome is that?!
Moft Z – flat desk stand
Standing desk kits are certainly nothing new at the moment. These devices, with which you can transform your existing desk into a standing desk by lifting a platform, have been around for almost as long as standing desks. Although Moft Z is the youngest participant in an already full category, it's something special. Thanks to its clever origami-like design, this sucker sits almost completely flat when not in use.
Freebord 5x – snowboard-like skateboard
Skateboards are undoubtedly a great tool for getting around a city, but they also require some practice to get used to – and much of that practice is usually spent learning how to brake properly. Freebord circumvents this problem with a super clever truck and steering wheel system that makes it easier for you to carry out a sliding brake – similar to a snowboard. This is the fifth generation of this design. As someone who drove (and crashed!) A few times in the first generation, I'm here to tell you that this is a massive improvement.
Impossible table – Tensegrity desk toy
If there is one thing, there will always be enough at Kickstarter, it is desk toys. Specifically, machined metal desk toys that have some sort of inspiring physical or mechanical phenomenon. Impossible Table fits this description to a T. It is a machined metal desk toy that demonstrates the concept of tensegrity: the characteristic property of a stable three-dimensional structure, which consists of connected elements under tension and not compressed elements.

Litta – solar powered bike light
Solar-powered bicycle lights are not a new idea at the moment, but they are not particularly common either. Why? Until recently, small solar panels simply couldn't absorb energy quickly enough to be useful in a bicycle light. This is different. Thanks to its high-end solar module and energy-saving LED lamp, Litta can fully charge in just a few hours and will work for years without ever having to be plugged in – even if you live in an area where this is not the case don't get much direct sunshine.
Locomoco – Screenless Coding Teacher
Robots that teach children to code are a dozen these days. Most take the same idea slightly differently, but Locomoco is different. Of all the coding robots we've ever seen on Kickstarter, it's probably one of the coolest. Why? It not only looks and works like a normal toy train set, but is also meant to teach children (or adults!) The basics of coding and computer logic without forcing them to stare dead-eyed at a tablet or smartphone screen. In this way, users can learn through a more tactile and practical process.
Kolude KD-1 Keyhub – multi-port keyboard
Warning: this keyboard will annoy you. Why? Because it's so easy that you wonder why no computer or peripheral manufacturer has ever done this. It is a keyboard with all the ports you could ever need: HDMI, USB, SD, USB C and a handful of others. This essentially means that you can connect it to everything, connect everything to it, and not have to reach for the back of your computer tower every time you plug in a flash drive or connect a new display. Seriously, why isn't this already a standard design feature on all keyboards?
Solid State Watch – buttonless, immutable wristwatch
This is one of those artistic, high profile Kickstarter projects that are unlikely to be mass appeal but are also so fun and extensive that I couldn't resist including it in this summary. Here's the idea: When you order one, the developers basically take the courage out of a Casio F-91W and pour it permanently into a transparent resin shell. Once this is done, you can no longer mess with it. No buttons, no functions, no nothing. Similar to time itself, it is immutable and beyond your control. It will just continue until the battery runs out and dies.
Ultrasound – ultrasonic cleaner
Ultrasona is a portable ultrasonic washing machine. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? How it works: When the transducer is immersed in water and turned on, it emits ultrasonic vibrations that create tiny cavitation bubbles in the water that violently move dirt, grime, and bacteria on everything you wash – wash and disinfect at the same time. This exact same technology is used on a larger scale in chemical laboratories, where it is referred to as ultrasound treatment. With Ultrasona, you can finally get this technology in a practical and fully portable form factor. Imagine – you could wash your clothes in a hotel pool!

Rocketbook Orbit – reusable notepad
If you haven't heard of Rocketbook yet, miss it. The company makes these amazing notebooks that are infinitely reusable and also allow you to sync / store your notes in the cloud. I'm a big fan. However, the company's newest product is not a notebook at all – it is a notepad that comes with a single, infinitely reusable sheet for your notes. Stop wasting paper just so you can write things down!
Vector Unleashed – Open source toolkit for Vector
Do you remember Vector? The adorable little A.I. Anki robot? After conquering the hearts of geeks around the world, the creators of poor little guy went bankrupt in 2019 and no longer offered updates / support. But now, if this Kickstarter project reaches its funding goal, vector owners may soon be able to revive their little robo friends and keep them moving for years to come.
Clicbot – modular robot system
Robots that teach children to code are a dozen these days. Most just pick up the exact same idea, but Clicbot is special. Of all the coding robots we've ever seen on Kickstarter, it's probably one of the best. Why? Not only is it incredibly simple and modular, it is also intended to teach children (or adults!) The basics of coding and computer logic without relying solely on a screen. This way, they don't have to stare into a tablet with their eyes dead and can learn through a more tactile and practical process.
Midea – U-shaped window AC
If you have ever installed a window AC unit, you know firsthand how cumbersome and annoying the process is. Not only do you have to build a suitable platform for the device, you also have to close the gap in your window. If you are like me it usually means that you chop up a box and accidentally tape it up to you I have a decent seal. Midea mitigates it all. It is equipped with an integrated mounting system and a clever U-shaped design, with which you can better close your window and avoid large gaps. One wonders why AC devices were not designed in this way from the start.
Makeway – modular marble track
Do you remember the reconfigurable marble toys you had as a child? Makeway is basically that, but with a handful of modern twists. First and foremost, all parts are magnetic and designed to adhere to vertical surfaces such as a refrigerator or whiteboard, so they don't take up space. Second, they are completely modular and can therefore be rearranged to create a virtually infinite number of configurations.

Lomo Perzval 80.5 – Bokeh Art lens
Are you tired of the pictures you can take with your standard camera lenses? Check out Lomography. The NYC-based lens company has been manufacturing oddball lenses for years and is now back at Kickstarter with its twelfth (twelfth!) Project, the Perzval 80.5 Art Lens. It is essentially an artificial lens inspired by a 180-year-old 19th century design by photographer Joseph Perzval. It is equipped with some unusual functions that give your photos a unique bokeh effect and make the lens particularly suitable for portrait photography.
Solidtekniks Bigga – wrought iron pan
Cast iron pans are in many ways the best cooking device ever. They offer extremely uniform and even warmth. You can put them in the oven. If you take good care of them, they will last a lifetime. But they also have some disadvantages. Not only is it a pain, it is also ridiculously heavy. Fortunately, Solidteknics has come up with an ingenious solution to this problem: use wrought iron instead of cast iron. The company's new range of pans is said to cook and behave just like traditional cast iron, but without being so heavy and stubborn.
Fork knife – reusable flatware
As the movement to reduce disposable plastic continues to gain momentum, there are dozens of startups that are trying to sell you collapsible / reusable straws and dinnerware – especially at Kickstarter. While these products are undoubtedly useful, they are also not very practical. You have to remember to take them everywhere so they are useful. That's what makes Forkaknife so neat. It is a fork and knife that can be stowed in a wallet-sized tote bag so you can easily put it in a handbag or wallet and have it with you at all times.
Nireeka Prime – fat tire e-bike
Electric bikes are certainly nothing new at the moment. Electric mountain bikes are also not. But electric fat tire bikes? There aren't many of them on the market right now – but funding Nireeka Prime would help change that. It is essentially a standard e-mountain bike equipped with ultra-wide tires that allow you to ride on a wider variety of terrain types – including sand and packed snow. The result is that fat bikes are usually a little harder to pedal, but the electric motor will help you overcome this and plow through any terrain you encounter.
Hunu – collapsible, reusable coffee cup
Disposable paper cups may not sound as bad as plastic bags or Keurig bowls, but despite their recyclability, most of them still end up in landfills. For this reason, a duo from London has developed a solution as part of their ongoing efforts to get disposable items out of circulation: a cleverly designed cup that thanks to its unique shape can be folded up so that you can take it anywhere and avoid it first Line the use of disposable cups.
February 2nd
Round – smart ring
Smart rings are certainly not a new idea at the moment, but this is probably one of the best ever. In addition to all the “intelligent” features we expect from wrist-wearables – things like step tracking, heart rate monitoring, and sleep monitoring – it's small enough that it doesn't interfere. That is the big deal here. Unlike most smart rings we've seen in the past, this one is actually quite slim and discreet. Despite its impressively small dimensions, the battery is somehow full enough to last two full days between charges.
Jollylook – vintage style instant camera
Instant cameras are currently very popular. Maybe it's nostalgia for the Polaroid days of yore, maybe it's a manifestation of our unconscious desire for tangibility in a world where everything is digital. Who knows. Regardless of the reasons behind it, instant cameras are experiencing a renaissance. Jollybook is the latest entry into this booming subcategory and was designed with an aesthetic that's even older than the Polaroid cameras that started the trend.
The Mars Atlas – detailed map of Mars
Who doesn't love a good map book? This is probably a little bit different from the one you saw in the past as it is a different planet than the one you and I inhabit. "The Mars Atlas is the first of its kind to contain amazingly detailed maps of the entire Martian surface," the book's authors explain. “With the Atlas, designed by a team of astrocartographers, you can unleash your inner explorer and learn more about the Red Planet to your heart's content. No more science fiction, now you can discover Mars mountains, valleys and river beds – many of which are still unnamed. "
Last Tissue – reusable handkerchief system
Disposable items follow the path of the dodos. It started with plastic bags. Then we went to plastic straws. More recently, there has been a movement to eradicate things like plastic utensils, plastic wrap, and even cotton swabs. When it comes to last tissue, disposable facial tissues like Kleenex tissues are used next on the chopping block. How? To make this possible, the company has developed a sophisticated reusable handkerchief system that makes using old-school handkerchiefs a little more convenient and hygienic than before.
Bay – redesigned litter box
Cat toilets are hardly well designed. Most are just injection molded plastic boxes built exclusively to hold cat litter. But they could (and should) do much more. That's the thought behind Cove – a well thought-out cat litter box with built-in tools (like a shovel and broom to clean up stray debris) that address the reality of owning a cat and cleaning it up afterwards.

Nebia by Moen – highly efficient shower
If you haven't heard of Nebia yet, you've lived under a rock. The company basically produces crazy, efficient shower heads that use 65 percent less water than conventional shower heads – and yet pour over enough to provide an adequate shower experience. After two extremely successful Kickstarter campaigns, it is again available with a third generation product – this time in collaboration with Moen. If you're looking for a water-saving shower head on the market, you've come to the right place.
Glamos – Lidar-based gesture control
The thing looks pretty cute. It is essentially a small electronic component that allows you to use gesture control for any screen thanks to extremely clever technology – regardless of whether it is "intelligent" or not. The secret? Lidar: The same technology with which self-driving cars “see” their surroundings. This technology records what you do with your hands, translates those movements into commands, and then sends them to the screen to which you connected them. Pretty cool, isn't it?
Bilby – waterproof silicone headlight
Headlights are a dozen these days. They are available in almost every shape, size and configuration that you could ever need. Regardless of what sport you do, there is likely to be one that is specifically designed for this activity – unless you need a sweat-proof sport. Virtually all of them are equipped with elastic fabric headbands that tend to absorb sweat and get nasty over time. But not this one! The Bilby is made of 100% silicone (and is also waterproof!) So that it doesn't absorb your forehead sweat.
Baha – shovel multitool
Multitools are certainly not a new idea when it comes to outdoor / survival gear, but the Baha shovel is fundamentally different from the leathermans and pocket knives you are probably used to. Instead of putting a few tools in the handle of a folding knife, the creators of this monstrosity decided to put them in the handle of a shovel. The result is a multifunctional outdoor tool with 21 different functions, most of which are simply not available with something as small as a pocket knife.
Porfee – blackhead vacuum
This is definitely one of the roughest, yet strangely appealing things I've ever seen at Kickstarter. Do you know these hand-held facial vacuum cleaners that suck blackheads out of your pores?

Shark Electric – elektrisches Skateboard

Onpark 3 – elektrisches Skateboard
Electric skateboards are a dime a dozen these days, but this one has a feature that puts it a cut above the rest: a swappable battery system. That means that if you’re riding and the battery dies, you don’t have to find a charger and wait for an hour while the battery tops off. Instead, you can just click in a new cell and keep riding. It’s honestly a mystery why this feature isn’t more common on electric skateboards.
Flash Forest — drone reforestation squad
Ever since the industrial revolution, humanity has been fighting an uphill battle against deforestation. Despite the best efforts of conservationists, the world either burns or cuts down about 10 billion more trees than it replants each year — a problem that has big implications for climate change. Environmental organizations have been trying (and failing) to reverse this trend for decades, but Flash Forest thinks it can succeed where others have failed. How? By enlisting an army of seed-bombing drones to autonomously replant trees faster than mere humans ever could.
Skill board — 360-degree balance board
Balance boards are an amazing training tool, but the vast majority of them — the ones that are basically a plank that sits atop a cylinder — only teach you how to balance from left to right. The Skill Board is different, though. This cruel bastard puts you on top of a mildly-squishy sphere, thereby forcing you to engage more muscles in order to keep your balance and stay stable. If you’re looking to build your core muscles and boost your balance skills, this thing is worth checking out.
Alfred — robotic AI assistant
AI assistants have progressed in leaps and bounds in the past few years, but Alfred wants to kick things up a notch further. He’s basically an AI assistant with a robotic body. This allows him to do things that Siri and Alexa can’t — like following you around your apartment, understanding his environment, and projecting images and video onto your walls. It’s a neat idea, and could very well usher in a new era for AI assistants
XEV Yoyo — 3D printed electric car
This one is pretty sweet. It’s a 3D printed electric car that’s made with just 57 components — a massive step down from the thousands of parts that make up a conventional car. This essentially makes it cheaper to produce, which allows XEV to sell it for under $7K. In terms of specs, the Yoyo’s 10-horsepower electric motor gives it a 43-mph top speed, while a 9.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack provides enough juice for a claimed 93 miles of driving.

Mantour X — self-balancing e-scooter
This thing is a self-balancing scooter — but it’s not self-balancing in the way you’re used to seeing. Instead of balancing for you while you ride, it’s designed to balance itself on one wheel when you’re not riding. The idea is that this makes it easier to transport, since you don’t actually have to carry it. Pretty clever stuff!
JBL Reflect — solar-powered headphones
What if you never had to charge your wireless headphones again? What if they could juice themselves up as you walked around and went about your day? Well, that’s basically what JBL is promising with it’s new Reflect headphones. Thanks to a headband that’s covered in solar cells, the phones can allegedly stay powered indefinitely with just 2.5 hours of light exposure per day
Cameradactyl Bracopan — 3d printable film camera
This project is awesome. This dude Ethan Moses has been designing and selling amazing 3D printed cameras for the past few years, and now he’s on Kickstarter selling the STL files so that other people can build them, using their own tools and equipment. The best? You can get your hands on all the files and instructions you need for just $1. That means he’s going to need a LOT of people to back the project in order to meet his $12K funding goal!
Fingerbot — multi-use IoT switch
Want to transform your home into an internet-connected smart home, but don’t want to spend a fortune on upgrading every single switch, thermostat, and appliance you own? Fingerbot is for you. It’s essentially a little IoT module with an adhesive patch on one end and an actuator on the other. The idea is that you can stick it onto the things you already own and use Fingerbot to activate them remotely by physically flipping the switch or pressing the button.
Boost — powered surfing fin
Why paddle your surfboard when you could slap a motor on it instead? That’s the premise behind Boost, an exceptionally clever surfboard fin that’s equipped with a propellor. When not in use, the fin’s design allows your board to glide through the water just like any other board — but when you power it on, the propellor provides a quick power boost to kick you forward. No more laborious paddling out to the surf, or missing swells due to lack of speed!

Draft Top — Beer can top remover
If you’re a beer drinker, you’ll want to check this thing out. You know how you can drink beer faster if you poke a hole in the lid? Well the Draft Top lets you you take that idea to a whole new level. Instead of just poking a hole, this clever little tool allows you to completely remove the top portion of the can altogether, effectively transforming your can into a cup. Best of all, it does this without creating any sharp edges, so you’re free to chug as recklessly as you want.
Ode Brew Grinder — variable coarseness coffee grinder
Do you need a $225 coffee grinder? Probably not. You can get a passable one on Amazon for like 30 bucks. But if you are a coffee nerd and you care deeply about quality and consistency, you should probably check this one out. Thanks to its innovative grinder design, the Ode Brew Grinder allows you to dictate the size of your grind and get predictable, precise particles every time. This essentially means you can get the perfect grind for whatever type of coffee you’re making — be it French press, pour over, or even espresso.
EO Blaster — chemical-free cleaning system
What if you didn’t have to use harsh chemicals to clean your countertops? What if you never had to buy those chemicals ever again and could instead use a magical contraption that transforms tap water into a powerful disinfectant using nothing but electricity? Sounds awesome, right? Well, that’s exactly what the EO Blaster does. To clean things around your house, it uses electrolyzed water — which sounds like total BS, but it’s actually legit, and was developed in Japan to sanitize high-bacteria environments like sushi restaurants, without introducing harmful chemicals.
Mova — zip-on waterproof cycling pants
You know those snap-off pants that athletes sometimes wear before a game to warm up? The ones that, due to their unique design, can be put on or taken off without removing your shoes? Well, Mova Cycling has basically taken that exact same idea and applied it to a set of rain pants for cyclists. The only difference is that, instead of buttons, these pants are designed with zippers — so unfortunately you can’t rip them off triumphantly after you finish locking up and head into your office building.
Bagel jeans — made-to-measure jeans by mail
About a year ago, a company named Bagel took Kickstarter by storm with an innovative new take on the traditional tape measure. Instead of metal tape with markings etched onto it, the Bagel tape measure uses a piece of string and a digital readout that displays the current extended length. Now, the company is back with a new project that uses the aformentioned tape measure tech for a specific purpose: generating made-to-measure jeans you can order online. Check out the video — it’s pretty damn clever.

Space 3D — affordable SLA printer
It used to be that SLA 3D printers were expensive and out-of-reach for the average consumer,  but that’s now beginning to change. Thanks in large part to crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, these kinds of printers have become drastically more affordable and available in the past couple years. Nowadays there are a bunch of them that you can get for less than $1,000, and there’s a boatload more currently in development.
The latest one to hit the crowdfunding scene is Space 3D — a highly affordable SLA/DLP printer that, despite costing just $600 on Kickstarter, comes with a range of high-end features that you typically only see on machines that cost upward of $1,500. Most notably, it has an absolutely massive build envelope that allows you to print bigger parts and pump out more stuff
Gluon — programmable robotic arm
If you’ve ever dreamed of having an automated assistant similar to Tony Stark’s JARVIS robot, you should probably stop whatever you’re doing right now and go check out Hexbot on Kickstarter. In contrast to robotic assistant devices geared specifically towards makers and designers, Hexbot is a robot arm that can serve virtually any purpose around the home, from artistic projects to 3D printing to stirring your coffee. It’s equipped with computer vision and visual processing technologies, so it can be used for an absolutely massive range of different tasks.
Diveroid — universal smartphone case for diving
If you’re going on a vacation and plan to do some diving or snorkeling while you’re there, chances are you probably want to take some pictures in the water. For most people, this means you’ll get a special waterproof case for your phone, use it once or twice, and then toss it out a year later when you get a new phone. Diveroid offers a more sustainable alternative. It’s a universal diving case that’ll work with any smartphone — even the one you might own a few years from now.
Diple — 1000x smartphone microscope
Smartphone microscopes aren’t exactly a new idea at this point, but this one is slightly different than the ones out there right now. Diple, as it’s called, is capable of 1,000x magnification. Functionally speaking that means it’s powerful enough to let you look at individual bacteriums, blood cells, and more — all through your big, bright smartphone screen. You can even pinch and zoom to make the image bigger or smaller. Pretty neat, right?
Bullet SSD — keychain-sized SSD
You know that tattered old USB drive you probably keep on your keychain right now? Imagine if it was smaller, faster, tougher, and had way more storage space. That’s pretty much what the Bullet SSD is. It’s a tiny storage device that, in addition to boasting up to 2TB of storage space, is also IP67 certified — meaning it’s water resistant and dust proof. It’s also encased in metal, so it’ll survive being tossed around for years to come.
December 2
Unocup — lid-equipped paper cup
Disposable, single use paper cups aren’t all that bad for the environment — but the plastic lids that accompany them? They’re not so great. So, as part of the ongoing movement to phase out single use plastic, a startup called Unocup has developed a solution: a cleverly designed paper cup that, thanks to its unique shape, is capable of folding up to create a lid. It basically eliminates the need to top your coffee (or whatever) with a piece of plastic you’ll only use once.
Hyper minimal calendar — redesigned full-year calendar
This is the most low-tech entry on this week’s picks, but it’s just too clever to skip. It’s a full-year calendar with a very practical and human-centric layout. Instead of displaying each month via a series of weeks that don’t line up nicely, months are broken up into four five-day weeks, with two-day weekends between them. Additionally, the first and last days of each month are underlined, so you can easily spot when one month ends and another begins.
Artiphon Orba — palm-sized multi-instrument
Artiphon broke onto the scene a couple years ago when it released the Instrument — a vaguely guitar-shaped electronic musical instrument that allowed users to play practically any sound imaginable via the familiar form of a guitar neck. It was a huge hit, and now the company is back with yet another electronic instrument dubbed Orba. This one is basically the same idea, but squeezed into a much smaller, more open-ended form factor.
Climate neutral certified — environmental product certification
You know how certain things in the grocery store are labeled as “certified organic” or “cage free” or “non-GMO”? In order to get those labels, the company has to actually get certified by an independent organization that verifies the company’s product meets certain standards. Climate Neutral certification is a new one to add to the mix — but instead of signaling that a given product or service is gluten free or non-GMO, it shows that the company behind the product has actively taken steps to offset the carbon impact of its operation. Pretty neat!
Ever Ratchet — ratcheting EDC tool
EDC tools are a dime a dozen on crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, but this one is arguably one of the best I’ve seen. Thanks to an exceptionally clever design, it’s equipped with a ratcheting screwdriver/wrench setup — which means you don’t have to spin it in a full circle to tighten a bolt or screw a screw. And of course, it’s got a handful of other features stuffed into the tiny little frame — including a pry bar and a bottle opener.
November 24
Epilog — epilepsy tracking wearable
This thing is brilliant. It’s basically a wearable, battery-powered EEG monitor that tracks your brainwaves throughout the day, beams that information to your smartphone, and then uses algorithms to analyze your brain activity and predict seizures. Obviously, it’s not a mass-market device designed for everyone — it’s specifically built to help people with epilepsy. Still, it’s an idea worth supporting even if you don’t have the condition.
Ebo — robotic cat toy
I’ve seen a LOT of so-called “smart” cat toys on Kickstarter and Indiegogo over the years, but this might be the most advanced one yet. In addition to standard features like the ability to drive around and encourage your cat to chase, it also has environmental awareness sensors that allow it to map out the room and avoid collisions, a return-to-home function that ensures it’s always charged, and even a built-in camera that allows you to watch as your cat gives chase. It’s nuts!
Mellow Duo — IoT sous vide machine
A few years back, Mello took the cooking world by storm with a groundbreaking idea: an internet-connected sous vide machine that could not only cook your food, but also keep it cool until you were ready to cook. That way, you could dunk a steak in the cooking chamber before you leave for work, keep it cool all day, and then tap a button on your phone to start cooking before you got home. It was nothing short of brilliant, and now they company is back with a bigger, badder version with two cooking chambers. That means you can cook two separate dishes at two separate temperatures, but have them come out at the same time. Genius!
Seesense Air — advanced bike tracker
Trackers and other anti-theft devices for bicycles are a dime a dozen these days, but this one is different. Unlike most existing trackers (which either rely on cellular/GPS connections that comes with a monthly subscription fee, or weird proprietary networks that only work if everyone around you has the exact same tracker app), this one communicates with your phone via Narrowband IoT, which basically allows it to work like apple’s Find My iPhone utility, but without any subscriptions or service costs.
Segway dirt ebike — electric dirt bike
This one hasn’t actually launched yet, so we don’t know a lot about it — but based on the video footage available and the photos on the preview page, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that this thing is going to be awesome. It’s certainly not the first electric dirt bike that’s ever been made, but the fact that it’s from Segway, one of the best rideable tech manufacturers in the world, is exciting. Fingers crossed they sell it for an affordable price!

Rumpl x Loki — travel dog bed
If you need a sleeping pad for your dog, you can find one quite easily online. Just head over to Amazon and you’ll discover no shortage of pads, bags, and other sleeping solutions designed to keep your furry friend comfy. However, if you intend to take your dog along on a trip, then you’ll likely have a bit more trouble finding a suitable canine sleeping pad. The issue is that very few (if any) dog sleeping systems are designed to be compact and portable. They’re typically made with thick padding that doesn’t compress very easily, so they don’t fit nicely into a backpack. Rumpl decided to change that.
HomeBiogas — backyard biodigester
Believe it or not, somewhere around 40 percent of all the food produced in the U.S. is wasted. We put all kinds of time and energy into producing it, but we still end up throwing a huge amount of it away and sending it off to a landfill. It’s incredibly wasteful, but the folks behind HomeBiogas have a solution. Their cleverly designed biodigester (now in its 3rd generation) allows you to collect pretty much anything that’s biodegradable — dining room scraps, meat, grease, oil, eggshells, grass clippings, and even small sticks or bits of wood — and use bacteria to transform it into cooking gas and liquid fertilizer. Pretty awesome, right?
Hyperjuice — 100W GAN charger block
Charger bricks are probably the least sexy technology of all time, but this one is actually pretty sweet. Despite being no bigger than a standard deck of cards, the Hyperjuice charger, as it’s called, is capable of channeling over 100W of power, and juicing up four devices at once. Thanks to the magical material known as gallium nitride, two of the brick’s USB-A ports support the latest quick-charging standard, and can therefore funnel power to your devices at a blistering pace. The only downside? It’ll cost you $70 bucks. That’s pretty steep for a wall charging station.
Zipbag — reusable food storage bag
As the movement to cut down on single-use plastic continues to pick up steam, there are dozens of startups clamoring to sell you reusable versions of common single-use items like straws, eating utensils, shopping bags, and even Q-tips. The latest piece of plastic in the crosshairs? Ziploc bags. You can already find silicon versions on Amazon for a few bucks, but this one from Twopillars takes things to a whole new level. It’s got a storage pouch, reusable utensils you can tuck inside, a reusable label, and best of all, a lifetime warranty. Get this thing and you’ll legitimately never have to buy storage bags ever again.
Tempest — advanced personal weather station
Home weather stations have been around for decades at this point, but Tempest might be the most advanced one yet. It measures just about everything you could ever imagine. Seriously. It’s not just the basic stuff like rain, temperature, and barometric pressure — it measures all that stuff and more using a variety of different methods, thereby giving you the most complete set of real-time weather data possible. Amazingly, it does all this without any moving parts, and also without wires. It’s 100% solar-powered and can transmit information via Wi-Fi to a base station in your house. It even shares all this data with the National Weather Service so it can make more accurate predictions for the general forecast. Pretty neat stuff!

Focusbuds — productivity-boosting earbuds
At any given moment, there are approximately a zillion things competing for your attention. With all the messages, alerts, emails, and notifications that bombard us throughout the day, it’s increasingly difficult to focus on anything for an extended period of time. That’s exactly what Focusbuds aim to fix. According to their creators, Focusbuds monitor users’ concentration levels using a process called electroencephalogram (EEG) neurofeedback. This is achieved by using embedded sensors capable of capturing this brain activity and proprietary software that analyzes it. The resulting data insights are then conveyed in real-time to the user via audio cues. In doing so, the promise is that the earbuds will help train your brain to concentrate and block out distractions over time.
Castaway — second screen for smartphones
Do you need a second screen for your smartphone? Probably not, but somebody made one anyway. It’s pretty straightforward. The Castaway, as it’s called, is basically a tiny chromium tablet that’s tucked into a smartphone case. Put your phone in the case, and it’ll be linked to the tablet, thereby allowing you to use two apps at the same time.
Fourneau Grande — artisan bread oven
Unfortunately, it’s damn near impossible to make bakery-quality bread in a standard kitchen oven — unless of course, you use something like Fourneau. It’s basically like a souped-up Dutch oven that creates the perfect environment for you to make artisan bread at home. This new version, the Fourneau Grande, is a larger version of the original, which gives you space to make specialty loaves that are longer, bigger, or oddly shaped.
The Big Sphere — Milky Way desk ornament
In 2016, designer Clemens Steffin launched his ‘Universe in a Sphere’ project on Kickstarter, creating a glass orb containing 380,000 perfectly lasered dots, each one representing an entire galaxy. His next project then aimed to re-create just our very own galaxy, the Milky Way, with every dot representing a different star. Now he’s back with a bigger version of that idea, and it’s even more painstakingly detailed than before!
Snowfeet 2 — skates for snow
Here’s DT’s Kraig Becker with the scoop: “At first glance, Snowfeet look an awful lot like a pair of sandals on steroids. Upon closer inspection, however, you’ll soon notice that Snowfeet’s straps look a lot more like a ski binding than anything you’ve ever seen on a flip-flop. Those bindings allow Snowfeet to accommodate any type of shoe or boot, then contract down to hold the footwear squarely in place. Once attached, Snowfeet are effectively skates that you can use on snow.” Sounds pretty awesome, right?

Gosun Flatware — flat-pack reusable utensils
As the movement to cut down on single-use plastic continues to pick up steam, there are dozens of startups clamoring to sell you collapsible/reusable straws and eating utensils — especially on Kickstarter. However, while these products are undeniably useful, they also aren’t particularly convenient. You have to remember to bring them along wherever you go in order for them to be useful. That’s what makes GoSun’s new reusable utensils so neat. They’re designed to pack up into a wallet-sized carrying case, so you can easily slip them inside a purse or wallet and have them with you at all times.
Ember — heated midlayer
Earlier in 2019, up-and-coming outdoor gear startup Sierra Madre launched a Kickstarter to fund the development of an innovative new insulated stuff sack called the Hot Pocket. To bring that product to life, the company developed a cutting-edge thermal panel that’s both lightweight and highly efficient — and now it wants to bake that same technology into a heated midlayer. The Ember, as it’s called is allegedly “10X more powerful than its competitors.” If that claim holds up, it’ll be well worth the $259 its currently going for on Kickstarter.
Pillowdy — hoodie with inflatable neck pillow
Neck pillows have been a staple for air travelers for decades — but why do we only use them when we’re flying? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have one at your disposal wherever you went, so you could catch a quick nap on the bus home? That’s precisely the idea behind Pillowdy. It’s a hoodie with a hidden inflatable neck pillow built into the hood. Whenever you need a quick siesta, just bust out the stowable blow tube and give it a couple of puffs. With less than a lungful of air, your neck pillow will spring to life and provide a place to rest your head.
Square off Neo — automatic chessboard
Here’s a quick cut from our full article, which ran earlier in the week: “Measuring 14.72 inches by 14.72 inches and weighing just 3.3 pounds, the Neo is designed to be a cheaper entryway to Square Off’s smart chess experience. It’s controlled through an app on your phone, which connects to the board via a Bluetooth connection. From there, you can play against Square Off’s built-in A.I. with 30 different difficulty levels. You don’t just have to play against the computer though — the app also connects you to a world of real opponents. Send a challenge and the board handles the rest, transmitting your moves to their chessboard, while theirs are sent to yours.”
Owly Pack — modular backpack
Modular backpacks aren’t necessarily a new thing at this point, but Owly Pack seems pretty remarkable. Thanks to its unique set of swappable modules, you can easily add or remove features as necessary to build out the perfect pack for your particular adventure. For example, if you’re going on a quick and easy day hike and want to keep some drinks cold, you can zip in the cooler module. If you plan on camping where you’re headed, there’s a shelter module that contains a tent/hammock hybrid. And best of all? It’s completely waterproof to boot.
