The ways in which ideas about ‘Zomia’ have provoked, inspired, jostled and indeed riled are certainly intriguing. [...] A G[oo]gle search for the term ‘Zomia’ yields 90,700 results (as of [2019]) [...]. Among these, [...] in an opinion piece [...] titled “The Undiscovered Country” (14 Feb 2012), Frank Jacobs [...] offered up a short history of ‘refuges, sanctuaries, freetowns, zones of no control’, adding [...] ‘Zomia’ to this mix. [...] Jacobs suggested that,
there exists another type of border, one that doesn’t reflect back our image. In vampiric asymmetry [...]. The world as we know it -- reciprocal even across national borders -- ends here. [...] The borderline does not merely separate two territories, but two paradigms: law and order from anarchy, progress from primitivism. Or perhaps, seen from the other side: freedom from oppression [...].
In Germany, a caravan park calling itself “Wagenplatz Zomia” has also drawn inspiration [...] as the community protests against high rents in Hamburg [...]. [C]ommunity members face eviction from [...] hostile and inept municipalities that spend millions of Euros building commercial centres that end up derelict and empty [...]. The authorities are also seen as utterly resistant to providing affordable housing for low income residents. On the other hand, scholars not necessarily working in highland Asia but inspired by the emphasis on indigenous agency, namely that communities ‘chose to place themselves out of the reach of the state’ [...], have found ways to incorporate these ideas in their own research. [...] Benjamin Powell and Malvika Nair (2012), for example, have incorporated many of these ideas while engaging in comparative studies between a 19th century South Indian banking caste and modern day Somalia. Thus, as a ‘heuristic of resistance’, Zomia has stimulated considerations of applicability [...]. Perhaps the best example is Caroline Humphrey’s exploration of Zomia as an idea in Inner Asian studies. She wrote (2015: 105):
Thinking in terms of Zomia allows a looking outwards from peripheral areas as at the impositions of states and empires. It becomes clear that the ‘friction of terrain’, the very difficulty or remoteness of these zones, has given an advantage to the [...] inhabitants, who know the local passageways, the hideouts, the hidden desert wells, as so forth [...], while at the same time rendering tax collection, military conscription, etc. [...] difficult enough [...] for a pre-modern state apparatus. [...] Zomia-like areas could maintain a certain independence [...]. [T]heir relative inaccessibility was the very reason why these zones became refuges for repeated waves of runaways, migrants, deserters and bandits, and also, in some cases, sites of millenarian resistance to colonialism. Tom Brass, in his piece “Scott’s “Zomia”, or a Populist Postmodern History of Nowhere,” (2012: 125) suggested that Scott’s Zomia project [...] follows a trend of ‘resurgent populist historiography’ that orientalises the agency of people living at the margins, a trend that has ‘colonised academic journals’ [...].
Hjorleifur Jonsson (2014, 2010) similarly sees Scott and many of his followers as failing to recognise how the notion of everyday resistance as a kind of cultural trait essentialises a great multitude of complex peoples that are anything but the nostalgic anthropologist’s ‘pure’ and ‘unpolluted’ small-scale societies. [...] Sanford Schram, on the other hand, has suggested that the myriad forms that resistance and evasion from state interference engendered in Scott’s account point to a very important, context-specific insight, thus, on those grounds alone, meriting further exploration [...]. Unsurprisingly, in an age of increasingly authoritarian regimes, unfettered global capitalism, and [...] state and private surveillance, the idea of a large swath of Asia existing beyond state control [...] is very attractive.

Me trying to figure out the Cobra Kai timeline from days and months in the series😫😫😫😫
Notable events I can remember:
Feb 4th, 2002 Robby Keene is born
Halloween Dance, Oct 31st: Kyler and crew beat up Miguel viciously
January/February 2018: Robby applies for LaRusso Autos. Miguel fights and wins against Kyler and his crew. Cobra Kai gains more students
February: The incarnation of Hawk/ Robby trains under Daniel LaRusso with Miyagi-Do
May 19th: 50th All Valley Tournament (I can assume Sam and Miguel dated for 2 to 3 months until they broke up at the tournament) Miguel beats Robby and wins the tournament
July 4th: All Valley Fest
Mid July: Demetri joins Miyagi-Do/later on the Miyagi-Do dojo is trashed, leading to several Cobra Kai students defecting
Late July: Coyote Creek fight/ Sam and Robby form a relationship
August 14th: First day of School, the school fight. Miyagi-Do wins, Robby (Accidently) kicks Miguel off the balcony and is in a coma
Late August/Early September: Miguel awakens from his coma, the students who fought return from their two week suspension, Robby comes out of hiding to see his mom, is put into Juvie by Daniel
September to December: Miguel's physical therapy which he is able to walk again. Cobra Kai viciously attacking Miyagi-Do; Hawk breaks Demetri's arm, Robby suffers attacks from Juvie until he ends up fighting back, Miguel returns to school; defects from Cobra Kai to Eagle Fang
December 19th: Robby is released from Juvie, city council tries to ban the All Valley tournament. After enough trauma, betrayal, and heartbreak, Robby joins Cobra Kai under his own agenda
December 22nd: Cobra Kai invades and attacks the LaRusso household, Miyagi-Do wins, Johnny battles Kreese after Robby joins Cobra Kai with the arrival of Daniel, Sam and Miguel.
New Years: The merge of Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang, Kreese reaching out to Terry Silver
January to May: Trainings between both dojos who will compete against each others, encounter again at the drive in, and later in May; Junior prom night. (So there are in 11th grade as it seems)
May 19th, 2019: 51st All Valley Tournament, Cobra Kai wins with Tory beating Sam and winning the grand championship

Dai Pai Dong - History
originated from the hawker licensing system in the mid 19th century
hawkers are vendors of street food and goods found in urban areas
hoc 'cooked food licences' were issued by the colonial government to help families of injured or deceased servants have a source of income
licence for food stalls in fixed locations were bigger so it could accomodate a photo of the licence holder and be displayed prominently
hawking served the lower class to make a living and allowed customers to benefit from convenience and low cost goods
since the early 1970s, the urban council stopped issuing new hawker licenses under normal circumstances
this was to reduce illegal hawking and minimise noise and nuisances on the streets
after WWII, thousands of immigrants from China came to Hong Kong
to increase employment oppourunties, the British Hong Kong government issued more licenses of outdoor food stalls - so people could be self reliant
These food stalls sold a wide range of low cost, good quality food
due to the lack of etiquette and tidiness, the stalls became associated slang words such as 地踎 (Dei Mau - 'squatting on the floor') and 麻甩 (maa lat - ' describing someone who looks scruffy')
Dai Pai Dongs are now becoming extinct due to the increased quality of life and also sanitary problems associated with cooking outdoors
in the 1990s, people could afford more expensive foods which helped speed up its extinction
Dai Pai Dongs offer many specialties from congee, noodles and siu mei
the flavours require high heat and a well seasoned wok
typically dai pai dongs use kerosene to heat up the woks, but these have been banned by the Hong Kong government in recent years

Young reindeer in Norway. The reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), also known as the caribou in North America, is a deer from the Arctic and Subarctic, including both resident and migratory populations. While overall widespread and numerous, some of its subspecies are rare and one (or two, depending on taxonomy) has already gone extinct. Reindeer vary considerably in color and size. Both sexes grow antlers, though they are typically larger in males. There are a few populations where females lack antlers completely. Wild reindeer hunting and herding of semi-domesticated reindeer (for meat, hides, antlers, milk and transportation) are important to several Arctic and Subarctic peoples. Even far outside its range, the reindeer is well known due to the myth, probably originating in early 19th century America, in which Santa Claus's sleigh is pulled by flying reindeer, a popular element of Christmas.
