9. Longest WIP of the year
D'you wanna know something? I was honestly surprised by the results of this one. I was 100% certain it was going to be Through a Crack in the Void. It you only count what I posted to Ao3, it stands at 30,587 words, but if you add what I've also posted to Tumblr beyond that, it adds up to a whopping 38,217. That's about half the length of the first Harry Potter book, and it's still sitting near the beginning of its plot. (Which isn't the longest fic in my roster overall, because my Iron Dad Marvel fic is sitting at a over 130k words and, again, it's not even half finished akdjbakbjwkaf.)
HOWEVER, I thought I'd check Domino Effect because - ya know - I started them both around the same time so I was curious.
39,456 words, which means it beats out TaCitV by a meager 1,239 words. Unlike TaCitV it's also sitting in one Google doc, which means I can also tell you that it's 76 pages long and counting. Geez!
24. Favorite fic you read this year
I'm gonna recommend three, because they're all amazing and I can never pick one fic. (And I'm sure you've read at least one of them.) There ARE a few others I contemplated for this, one of which is the Take A Chance On Me AU I've talked about before, and one of which is a DSMP fic where Tommy respawned as a crow...but I'm not gonna bog down this post with a million fic recs lmao.
1) Adaptive Nature by @scribbling-dragon (WIP)
It's an Empires S2 fic (with Team Rancher) that's all told from the POV of The Sheriff. From what I recall he has never once mentioned his name, though we know it's meant to be Jimmy. There are no Minecraft mechanics in this AU to my knowledge, so no respawn, no inventory, and no communicators. But basically - the Sheriff is drawn to some ruins in the mesa beyond the border of the newly-founded Tumble Town. He finds a dragon statue there, is affected by it somehow, and finds himself...changing, though I won't say how here for the sake of spoilers. He also meets and befriends archeologist Pixlriffs, through whom he meets another member of the archeology guild, Tango, both of whom teach the Sheriff about something called "the corruption" that happened centuries ago. (AKA Empires S1) It's so well written, and there are so many mysteries still unsolved! The Sheriff is secretive about his past which he left behind, there's some skulk thing that Pixl is studying, there's something to do with a dragon - dude. Just - if you haven't, go read it. It's stellar.
2) Covet by Oceanbreeze7 @digitalta (WIP)
An AU in which Grian never joined Hermitcraft, but Pearl did. Grian has been missing, presumed dead, ever since Evo. Now - in Season 8 of Hermitcraft - the Boatem crew have broken ground into the void below the Boatem Hole...but the hole isn't as empty as it seems. Something is lurking beneath it, and while at first the shy and elusive creature they've named "Scout" is nothing more than a friendly and gift-giving enigma, he becomes so so much more once they start trying to figure out what exactly their strange guest is. This one is hauntingly beautiful in its writing, with some pretty poetic chapters and some gorgeous imagery. There is body horror in this, so be mindful of that, but - holy moly. It's so so good, with a pretty fantastic balance of angst and fluff and reveals, and - yes. So much yes.
3) To Hoe Where None Have Hoene Before by tablrcloth
Otherwise known as that one fic where Tango and Jimmy try to get all the husbandry achievements in Double Life. It's - guys, it's cute as shit. It's short and sweet, very sweet, and I've reread it like three times. <3

3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? Such A Time As This (Tudors). It’s a retelling/reinterpretation of the Purim Story with Anne Boleyn as Esther - specifically as Persian Jewish woman. It was so scary to post because it’s so deeply personal - I was writing my own identity as a biracial persian jewish woman into the threads and soul of this story and while there are things I would add/change now I am still so proud of it. A quote:
"You are talking of me, of my family" she wants to say to the courtiers when they sneer or repeat the stories about the Jewish monsters who steal babies to make matzoh and mix the blood in with their gold and have poisoned all the wells in France. But it would do no good at all). And she should be used to hearing this - as it has been around her all her life and it would not change - to be Jewish was to be safe nowhere.

12. favorite character to write about this year
Hehe I have to say, I’m very very partial to Hunter but I LOVE TO WRITE 99!!!! He’s such a dad 😭 he makes me so happy! I have a series dedicated to him called The Days You Can’t Get Back basically how he’s a father to the Batch in all different circumstances and stages of their lives.
14. a fic you didn’t expect to write
Definitely has to be The End is a New Beginning because I did NOT expect Tech to fall to his “death” in the season finale. I had a feeling something might happen to one of them but I wasn’t sure. I don’t know that I totally buy it either but it was a great inspiration for a Tech Ghost series. Basically he teams up with two other ghost clones to try and help the batch from beyond the grave.
28. longest fic you read this year
This is a toughy….. think I have to go with You Drew Stars by @thejediscrolls. It’s been such a fun read! I need to catch up on it, I’m behind one or two chapters but it’s but so fun and so good! I haven’t had as much time as I would have liked this past year to read but I’ve been able to squeeze some in! Here’s hoping this year is better!

1. favorite fic you wrote this year
You're asking me to pick among my babies!
Okay, it's actually not a Jily fic, which might be surprising. But it's All the little pieces, which is a Hinny fic I did. It's a series of moments from 6th year to [redacted] centering around the phrase "I heard that" "you were supposed to." I really loved developing their relationship in these moments. My favorite one is actually when Harry walks into the Forbidden Forrest in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Runner ups are Three Strikes (because I never thought I could finish a multichapter fic) and Lily's diary (because the angst is just so good)
4. total number of words you wrote this year
I started posting to AO3 in mid April, and my word count is 310,927. However, I have a ton I posted to Tumblr and not AO3 (maybe I should move those over?) And so many words drafted that have never been posted anywhere. In November alone, I wrote more than 60k words (I need to get my final count, lol)
12 favorite character to write about this year
Oh god. Um. It's definitely one of James/Lily/Remus. James doesn't seem fair because I've only recently started really liking writing him. Probably Lily. I think I just make Remus hurt too much.

So, this one's tricky because based on AO3 hits it's A Mutual(ly Beneficial) Arrangement, but based on notes on Tumblr it's Directions...but then if we're counting how quick the response was, it's my TASM!Peter Parker fic Approach Shift. So I really don't know? Lsdflksk it's insane to me that anyone reads anything I've made, so I'm just grateful that people have been kind enough to share their time with my stuff.

3. Favorite line/scene you wrote this year
And here's the duplicate! :D I said I got two of this one, which means I get to share another favorite bit from my writing!
This one's a little melancholy for me, because it's a tiny fragment of a scene I wrote in Through a Crack in the Void (the HC S6 Grian-escapes-from-the-watchers fic that I promise I'm going to get back to!). When I started this story, I had written in that Xisuma had called in both Joe Hills and TFC to help with the strange player who had shown up on Hermitcraft...but sadly, since starting this fic, Tinfoilchef passed away. He'll still remain in my story, but his role has actually become just a little more significant than originally intended since then.
But there's this little scene I wrote in the third chapter in which TFC is talking with the goddess of death (Kristin) out in the server hub, and this one little chunk of it still makes me smile:
TFC scoffed quietly, his eyes dragging back out over the meandering crowds of players.
“You call me old, as if you haven’t been around for ‘bout as long as I have.”
“As if you remember how old you even are at this point,” Kristin returned. She propped her chin on her hand and cast him a teasing look. “Do you even remember what you used to be the god of exactly?”
The question only gained a shrug from the elder god.
“No, but I don’t really care to know either,” he told her. “I have my mines. I have my Hermits. I have a home and a family, an’ that’s enough for me.”
13. Favorite writing song/artist/album of this year
Fun fact: I actually can't write with music playing! My ADHD makes it impossible to focus on my writing with music in the background because I'm also a musician/singer, so instead of it becoming simple background noise, my ears latch onto the melody. I do my best writing with little to no sound, but if I need background noise it's often white noise, thunderstorms, or the cafe mix from the MyNoise app that has people chattering in indistinguishable words. (That last one works well if someone is watching TV in the next room because it specifically blocks out other voices.)
HOWEVER! I do craft Spotify playlists for my stories and characters for when I'm driving to and from work (some of which have given me specific plot ideas mwahahaha) and because I've been fixated on Team Ranchers a lot this year, I've discovered a love for the band Marianas Trench that I didn't know I needed in my life. Their music is PHENOMENAL and I attribute many of their songs to different fics, ships, characters, and SMP's. (I'm sure some of you have already seen me list "Only The Lonely Survive" as my top Rancher track lol.)

14. A fic you didn't expect to write
Hiya friendo! ^^ Technically I've got two for this. Most recently, I posted a little one-shot thing of S8 Astronaut!TangoTek crashing his ship in the mesa on Empires, and Jimmy saving him from the wreckage. That one came completely out of left field but it was a blast to write!
(Actually my fixation on Team Rancher came out of left field as a whole, and now I'm writing multiple stories about them. Go figure lol.)
But more notably: Domino Effect.
I came late to the Traffic Life party, seeing as I've been playing MCYT Catch-Up since I started watching Hermitcraft S6 last fall. (Because I'm a fool who watches like 15 HC POV's at once and in upload order because I love almost every single person's content and I love knowing everything that's happening.) When I started watching S8, I realized some Hermits were making references to Third Life that I wasn't getting, so...I decided to watch all the Traffic stuff before diving into HC S8 again. I'd heard a lot about Desert Duo and I'd anticipated getting attached to them just as much as everyone else...but...that wasn't quite what happened.
No, for some reason, I got hooked on the Renchanting storyline, Ren's dramatic Theatre Kid vibes, and Martyn's cryptic lore. And because I had been watching almost every POV, I got this little...idea, sparked by the ending text from the Watchers in Martyn's 3L finale.
We are not pleased. Change is in order. Our will be done.
Inspiration struck. Instead of it being a reference to the Watchers starting a new game (Last Life), I changed it to mean that the original timeline needed changing. So...time loop. So Evo lore. So the Watchers sent Martyn back again, and again, and again. It was SUPPOSED to be a short one-shot. But I'd also found a prompt around that time that said something about someone dying over 300 times, so the timeline expanded, and Martyn's story grew, and then Jimmy got involved, and then Grian, and then - well. It's absolutely massive now, and I have zero regrets.

I technically already answered this, but I'm gonna add another one to the list: There's Not a Word Yet, which you know full well only exists because of you lmao. I think what did it was the image in my head of Tango being all excited to see Jimmy again, and Jimmy just - "Who are you?" like that moment. The moment Jimmy drops that bomb, and Tango has to process what it is that's happening. It's so painfully good. And now that lil spark has spiralled into a chapter fic, a 50+ song playlist, art, and a uh *cough* a commission I may or may not be eagerly awaiting from the lovely lunarcrown. :3
(This AU has an unrelenting hold on my heart and soul, I swear)

1. Favorite fic you wrote this year
I have to admit, picking favorites is always hard for me. I love all my stories too much to easily put one above the other lol...but I've gotta say, at the moment There's Not a Word Yet has taken over my brain. I wasn't expecting people to love it as much as they have, only two chapters in so far, and it has been so fun to plan out the big emotional moments even though I haven't reached them yet! (To anyone actively awaiting a continuation of this story, just you wait. I get the feeling you'll both love and hate me for some of the ideas I've gotten since the last update hehehe)
3. Favorite line/scene you wrote this year
Again, picking favorites is hard. BUT I've actually received this number twice, which means I get to pick two different scenes!
To stay on theme, I'll pull the first one from TNaWY as well, just because I can lol...but there's a lil paragraph I adore from the second chapter when Tango's kind of stuck in his own head and processing the fact that Jimmy doesn't remember who he is:
No, it wasn’t the bond that had Tango melting when Jimmy smiled at him, or flushing slightly when Jimmy hugged him, or grinning like a fool when Jimmy complimented his piss-poor building skills.
That was all him . That was all Tango.
Or maybe it was all Jimmy, he thought idly, raising his head enough to watch Tumble Town’s Sheriff scrunch his nose up at something a colorfully-clad Scott was saying, annoyance and amusement lighting up his face. Maybe it was Jimmy’s fault for being the kind of person that drew Tango in the way he did. Maybe it was Jimmy’s fault for being as warm and blinding and unignorable as the sun itself, his gravitational pull managing to attract Tango into his orbit like a rather smitten and highly combustible comet. Or maybe it was just Tango’s fault for giving in when adoration had begun to float to the surface in the first place.
Whatever it was, it had left Tango smitten before he and Jimmy had even had a chance to turn red, and then Jimmy had told him he wasn’t afraid of getting burned by him when Tango was raging after the razing of the ranch, and then - and then - and then –
...something about the phrase "a rather smitten and highly combustible comet" just gives me such a lovely mental image lol. I was so proud when that little piece of text flowed onto the page!
