I've worked out that all of the possible combinations of the genders of the avatars make 16 total combinations, so I am doing a poll to see which combination people prefer!

Do you have any ideas or headcanon about the relationship between Tiana and Shahid (And possibly her other step-children)?

FYI I am still hashing out my hc ideas in detail so apologies for rambling lol. FEW3H spoilers are under the cut btw.

The short answer: Tiana had relatively good relationships with the step-children. She is even in a polycule with the other partners that Arash (my name for Claude's father as seen here) married. While not SUPER close, Shahid and Tiana weren't on bad terms until Khalid disappeared.

The long answer:

I hc that Khalid's childhood assassination attempts and such were not from members within the royal family, but from Almyran noble families who were against Tiana marrying into the family without anything to her name other than...being from Fodlan. The partners Arash had already married to were initially hesitant to be friendly with her but over time, Tiana's charms (her strength, diplomacy, etc) won them over...aka she joined the royal polycule. This included Shahid’s mother.

As for Shahid...I'm more or less ignoring some of the bad writing around the Almyra stuff in GW lol. He was a son who was more talented in fighting, not tactics/politics compared to Khalid. He always was proud of his strengths and would flaunt it often. While jealous that Khalid was more adept at diplomacy/politics/tactics, he wasn’t malicious. They had a typical "petty siblings" dynamic where they sounded meaner than they actually were.

This sadly changed when Khalid disappeared without a word. Tiana was the only person who knew where her son going but did not tell anyone bc her son wanted to explore Fodlan without revealing his Almyran roots. Plus, Khalid felt his father would never let him go formally.  Hearing his favorite son being gone, Arash fell into depression. This angered Shahid, because he felt that Khalid was being ungrateful for making their father this upset without explaining a word. He also lashed out to everyone in the royal family, especially Tiana.

As a way to fill the void, Shahid also tried to impress his father by picking fights in an attempt to demonstrate his strengths. During this time, some of the Almyran nobility (and even some of his more dangerously ambitious relatives) started slowly filling Shahid's head with ideas of how he should be the next king...and then, FEW3H happens :’)

Shahid never died ok he was just injured and fell dramatically for the tiktok clout before  Nader sent him home to get rehab under the promise he will keep Khalid's whereaouts secret

I’m invited to a powerpoint party this weekend, and I decided to do a presentation on Fire Emblem. But SPECIFICALLY why the Engage fandom seems to be a little quiet, while the Three houses fandom gets to keep chugging along (although quieter than before).

I thought tumblr might like to look at some (not all) of my slides as I know this has been a topic of discussion in the community for the past week or so. My basic thesis is that 3H has deeper, more interconnected characters who all have a very clear voice - so they are quite easy to plop into different scenarios and make fanfic/fan comics/etc about them. They are very compelling and it’s easy to fall in love with many of them. The replayability of 3H also means that fans are engaged with it for much longer - so they are probably actively consuming or producing 3H related content longer than they would be for engage. If a game keeps you hooked for a long time, it’s going to prevent you from finding new fandoms to join.

Anyway, these are just my ideas. Who knows if they’re correct, and there are LOADS of other factors that I didn’t discuss as for likely reasons 3houses is a more popular game (first fe switch release, 3hopes spin off, pandemic). I just hope some of you find it mildly thought provoking.

I want the fe fandom to stop cannibalising itself :( what bothers me most of engage vs 3houses is how we know the game's story may not be the most complex but we're chill w it bc intsys is dangling marth in front of us like car keys. everyone has their fave game which is all good and stuff but I don't like the trashing of games that aren't their fave. we're a 33 year old franchise ffs just relax and enjoy the silly (occasionally horny) anime chess guys. it's not that deep.

"dubiously moral or outright evil royalty and their unfathomably devoted personal servant/knight/advisor is simply one of the top ships of all time." // I saw this tagged as dimidue and... honest question, when was Dimitri Morrally Dubious or Outright Evil in 3Houses? I get he's one of the final bosses of Crimson Flower, but if that = morally dubious... I don't see it.

Also, doesn't he die in VW/SS and he stops being "feral" shortly after Dedue is recruited? When was Dedue doing Dimitri's evil bidding in game?

It's a massive stretch to try to paint Dimitri as such, even for fans who actively want dark Dimitri content. I've seen people on the anon meme complain about much the game forces you to reach for some serious, ahem, "dark fuck prince" Dimitri stuff, since when you get down to it the only people we ever see him do anything to beyond series-standard violence are 1) generic soldiers or 2) Randolph, who belongs to a very broad category of FE bosses that are next door to generics for how easily the games reduce them to cannon fodder. The DLC even walks back that angle a bit with a comment from Yuri about Dimitri becoming a folk hero in Faerghus during the timeskip, which really undercuts the thought that he might be out there killing random civilians or whatever. Crimson Flower certainly doesn't sell it, in large part because it just doesn't have the time to develop any of its four separate antagonist factions well in only six chapters. Dimitri has, what, two scenes or so before he's faced as a boss in CF? Silver Snow and Verdant Wind are no help either, with his sole appearance in the former being possibly a hallucination and his appearance in the latter being followed by Dedue basically turning into Finn from Jugdral and devoting himself to avenging his fallen lord/lover.

Pretty much any dark Dimidue content with even a small basis in canon is going to pull from that Dedue/Felix support where Felix posits several hypothetical terrible things that Dedue would commit for Dimitri. Felix is being obviously antagonistic, and none of what he claims is ever realized in the story, so it's really hard to take that conversation as anything but Dedue telling Felix what he wants to hear because he knows the guy is working through his own issues and possibly wants to get in for some throuple action and also understands through their years of mutual trauma bonding that Dimitri would never order him to kill children. You really have to work for in-character dark Dimidue; they're actually an incredible sappy couple (have you seen some of their lines to each other?) who's going to go on to adopt like twenty kids together, with the sole caveat being that both of them will completely lose it if their massive Do Not Separate sticker is ever violated.

(One could also apply similar observations on fandom trends to Catherine/Rhea, but I'm less familiar with that pairing.)

this might be the first time I've ever gotten interested in a fire emblem game. I didn't really try out 3houses, since I wasn't really into tactical role-playing games at that time, but I do know there is a big community of FE fans that do love it, so perhaps this will be a unique experience for me.
