more worldbuilding woik for the story Logan's the main character of. really just figuring out "okay which bugs are basically people and which ones will be effectively animals that don't share that level of self-awareness"
Consider ChooChoo here on level with Pluto and Rajah. And yes I'm going for the deliberate allusion to dragons with the use of "wyrm" as this longboy is closer to being a larger dog than a wee worm. He's a big fuzzy derp.

I just learned there is a specie of worm that is named after the Ghibli Movie Totoro, because it’s squishy legs reminded the guys of the catbus from the movie.

This very small guy is called the velvet worm, and its scientific name is in fact an homage to the catbus from my neighbor totoro (eoperipatus totoros). apparently they are very soft and blobby, shoot slime at their prey from two little slime cannons and are actually not even worms:
Velvet worms are curious slime-spewing enigmas. They are off on their own odd branch of the tree of crawly things called Onychophora. Not worms, not insects, millipedes, centipedes, or slugs. Genetic data suggests that velvet worms are a sister group to insects; that is, they are descended from a common ancestor, but not from each other. Onychophorans were probably stumping along in tiny moss forests 500 million years ago.

http://ift.tt/2mfhXdR
