Ok was anybody going to tell me YouTube can have multiple official dubs of a video and just force you into the one more similar to your system language without letting you see the others.
Or was I just supposed to find out while trying to watch "The amazing Digital Circus" in English.

me watching western europeans whining abt Americanization of Their Languages And Cultures via cultural/media exports knowing that they themselves have literally destroyed countless languages and cultures worldwide in the name of colonialism

i just realised that thanks to the perks of the japanese grammar, "mahoutsukai no yome" means both "bride of a magus" and "bride the magus". the "magus" in the title of the story might refer to chise herself, but this little nuance gets hopelessly lost in translation

Something I really appreciated about the translations of dbd is that they translated Crystal's name (for the spanish version into apellido-von Hoverkraft, in german Nachname-von Hoverkraft) they couldve just kept it in English and relied on the audience being proficient enough in english (especially in the german dub which is littered with English loanwords and slang anyway) but they didn't:)

what happened to tv rain / dozhd in latvia (its license was revoked for supporting genocide and threatening latvian security and public order) is deeply hypocritical. if you’re setting a standard of “values” and “laws” that you claim distinguishes you from an enemy, you ought to abide by it as a basic moral, ethical principle—yet there are a number of media sources that maintain latvian licenses that openly question the war from a pro-kremlin position (Aif Европа, 1+2 International).
a dynamic is playing out through which far right positions that politicians heretofore couldn’t dream of passing are enacted as policy in european countries vis-a-vis the war in ukraine, shielded and justified as security measures. check out what the russian government had to say:
“Some always think that it’s better somewhere else than at home,” said Dmitri Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman. “And some always think that it’s freedom somewhere else and it’s unfreedom at home. This is a vivid example demonstrating how erroneous such illusions are.”
congratulations, latvia, for becoming the second country this year to ban tv rain after russia

Saw a post about language, specifically about how prevalent English is in internet spaces even in countries that don't speak English in the day-to-day, and it got me thinking
If you want to tag your country, you can do that too!
(Also yes I'm aware that this poll is inherently exclusionary for non-english speakers, who can't exactly take this poll lol. So this won't really be an accurate depiction of the language space online. It's more for fun rather than any actual reaearch; I was just curious what the results will be!)
