initially, upon movement i thought about travel, but i knew right away i wasn’t going to do just any travel, i had to make it special - as a person who’s really really really interested in geography, i started to think how do i incorporate geography into travel even more? nomadic tribes was my answer right then and there. one problem with that idea though, was my inability to provide any form of primary research, as such tribes only really exist around the northern and northeastern parts of the african continent as well as midland mongolia. as much as i think i would’ve enjoyed exploring that idea further, i couldn’t do my project on something i would be unable to provide any primary research for. so it was back to square one. where do i go from here? - i though to myself. i started to wander around town looking for clues as to what i could transition my initial travel idea into, and there it was: the duffy’s circus advertising itself on a glossy, vibrant colored poster. that was it. i’d found my theme!

i wanted to approach the idea from as many angles as possible - from the movement of the circus itself, inner and outer movements of the members and animals belonging to the circus, through how one force of movement coincides (or tries to) with another*, to how long and tedious the journey through the world and through yourself is and how they interact, interfere, clash with each other. all these forces influence each other way more than we might initially realize, and that’s what i’m trying to get through with with this project.
