The best thing to come out of Ted Lasso's third season has been Edyta Budnik. I can't wait to see her again. She was wonderful.

Live Gus Reacts! After a nap
So this one isn't going to be long because my carpal tunnel is acting up, but I loved this episode. Yes, there were some after-school-special elements, but I think Chuck Hayward knocked it out of the park, especially considering this was his only screenplay for this show (of course, he's won Emmys for Wandavision and is about to run his own show so dude knows what he's about). It felt much more interwoven than last week's, and certainly flowed a lot better.
I'm hilarified that Edyta Budnik's Polish background was used for Jade's character, similar to how most of the Richmond players' actual backgrounds are used on the show (and why I had her reading a book in Polish in the WifeGuy fic I'm writing). I will say that Rupert, specifically, clocking that was an interesting moment because there is a very real (and ugly) history of prejudice against Polish immigrants in England; Rupert was not being charming there, by any means. The whole interaction with Rupert and Nate in this episode was really fascinating, because Rupert's clearly alarmed at the fact that Nate is getting outside support — he was so effective at cutting Nate completely off from everyone at Richmond, but here Nate is, building his own network here (Roger's invitation suggests to me that this isn't the first time Nate's been out with the West Ham staff/team after a game). And for Rupert, that's unacceptable — Nate's become as much a "possession" to him as Rebecca once was, so he's going to try his best to keep Nate isolated. Unfortunately for him, Nate is still The Great and is learning to balance his newfound pride with his enduring kindness. So however that shakes out will be fun to watch, I think. (All the fingers crossed that it ends with Rupert getting struck by lightning, because really how could you improve on mardia's masterpiece.)
One thing I hate about this storyline, though, is that Nick Mohammed is still having to field abuse from racist fans who think he hasn't "atoned" enough to be allowed happiness or character growth; I love seeing more of Nate, but not at the expense of Mohammed having to deal with this bullshit.
Re: the Colin storyline, I can't really say whether or not it was handled well or poorly, because my personal reaction to it has overwritten that kind of objective analysis. I've read a few reactions, which run the gamut, and I can see how those scenes may have left people disappointed/elated/angry/satisfied. For me, knowing that this episode was written by a Black man my age, from my mom's alma mater (and uhhhh glad to see they changed the mascot from when she went there) and that he and Dylan Marron were the two writers "in charge" of Colin's storyline does make me more inclined to see the choices — Ted's ridiculous Denver Broncos analogy, Isaac's lashing out and somewhat remedial "how does gay work" questions — as deliberate explorations of how straight men can and do react to finding out their friend is gay: not perfectly or even well, but borne out of love and respect and desire to protect. I was very grateful that the entire team immediately accepted Colin, because the last thing I wanted in that moment was "realism." Ditto with Colin's playing improving in the second half of the game, now that his two lives are (at least partially) connected; that's likely not what would happen IRL but I didn't care, even a little bit.
I'll admit I VERY much dig Rebecca as Tough Mom character this season; she's been doling out some extremely good advice to people, and it's delightful to me. Yes, she's a main character who's not getting enough to do, but like Ted I think the show still works when she's not in the spotlight, and when she gets to be the one offering support rather than needing it. And I adore her and Roy's weird-ass relationship, it's just incredible to get these glimpses into how they see each other.
Other than that: Sam giving Jamie the middle finger AND a beautiful smile was amazing, Jamie being pleased to be clocked as queer was interesting, the Higgins And Rebecca Buddies Fun Time is still great, and I want every one of Trent Crimm's t-shirts. And a clementine.

There is also a head that blocks center stage and the action is often lost behind it. Act two is much better with no blackouts and only some heads on the bottom that are worked around well. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. There’s a lot of chatter and rustling from the audience, but the sound is otherwise excellent. Includes playbill scans.

Alice By Heart - Off-Broadway - March, 2019 (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Molly Gordon (Alice Spencer/Alice), Colton Ryan (Alfred Hallam/White Rabbit/March Hare), Wesley Taylor (Harold Pudding/Mad Hatter/Pigeon/Knave of Spades/Mock Mock Turtle), Noah Galvin (Dodgy/Duchess/Dodo/Mock Mock Mock Mock Turtle), Catherine Ricafort (Clarissa/Canary/Queen of Diamonds/Mock Mock Mock Turtle), Kim Blanck (Tabatha/Cheshire Cat/Caterpillar 2), Grace McLean (Red Cross Nurse/Queen of Hearts/Magpie), Heath Saunders (Angus/Caterpillar/Knave of Hearts), Andrew Kober (Dr Butridge/King of Hearts/Duck/Jabberwocky/Mock Turtle), Mia DiLena, Zachary Downer
NOTES: Really beautiful shot in an intimate space. Lots of zooms, but a good amount of wider shots too with a very limited (almost nonexistent) amount of heads. The lighting in this theater really liked my camera and I know the show almost “by heart” so I think I followed the action as well as possible. My battery died during the last song, but it starts at the very beginning with only one drop out during dialogue.

NOTES: An adorable and charming new show premiering at Berkeley Repertory. Samantha, Adam, and Savvy are fantastic in their roles, the music is gorgeous, and the sets are beautiful and clever. Amélie - Pre-Broadway/Los Angeles - December 4, 2016 (Preview) (SJ Bernly's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Phillipa Soo (Amélie Poulain), Savvy Crawford (Young Amélie), Adam Chanler-Berat (Nino Quincampoix), Tony Sheldon (Raymond Dufayel / Collignon), Manoel Felciano (Raphaël Poulain / Bretodeau), Alison Cimmet (Amandine Poulain / Philomene), Harriett D Foy (Suzanne), Maria-Christina Oliveras (Gina), Alyse Alan Louis (Georgette / Sylvie / Collignon's Mother), Randy Blair (Hipolito / Suicidal Tourist / Elton John), Heath Calvert (Lucien / Mysterious Man), Heath Calvert (Adrien Wells/Wallace), Paul Whitty (Fluffy / Collignon's Father), Paul Whitty (Joseph), David Andino (Blind Beggar), David Andino (Garden Gnome)
NOTES: This show is magical, Phillipa is captivating, and the entire ensemble is perfectly quirky. There have been a few changes since Berkeley that tighten up the show a bit and make it ready for Broadway. A near perfect capture with no washout, no obstruction, and just one very quick dropout. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans.

NOTES: Great HD capture of the Broadway transfer. There are a few short scenes/moments far stage right blocked by a head, but nothing major. Beautiful production, performances and cast to match! A-

NOTES: Closing show! Or “rock concert” if you ask Christy Altomare. Yeah so this is a pretty obstructed video. Everyone was really excited so people were standing up, people were moving around, and honestly I had a little trouble paying attending to my viewfinder with all of the tears streaming down my face. Like Beetlejuice I would say it’s mostly like highlights, but all of the things that happen in the center part of the stage are captured really well and the video is DEFINITELY Christy centric. “Journey to the Past” is complete and gorgeous and you will cry. First act starts around when Anya meets Dmitry and the second act starts during “Crossing A Bridge.”

NOTES: Great capture of this wonderful touring company with no obstructions except for a head leaning into the frame for a second or two in Act One. Filmed with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups, and there’s only a couple instances of wandering after applause (limited to early in Act One) and no major dropouts.

NOTES: Looks about how you’d expect for a video this old. Serious gen loss (both softness and rainbowing), decent but not great audio.
Annie - North Shore Music Theatre, Beverly MA - 2012 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MKV (SD) CAST: Lauren Weintraub (Annie), Jacquelyn Piro Donovan (Miss Hannigan), Raymond Jaramillo McLeod (Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks), Jessica Tyler Wright (Grace Farrell)

NOTES: This first attempt at a sequel to Annie, Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge, opened at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in December 1989 to universally disastrous reviews.
Extensive reworking of the script and score proved futile, and the project ended before officially reaching Broadway; newly surfaced video was filmed from the balcony. Shot between heads, and the balcony railing is visible, but not too bad-you still get a good feel for the show. Recorded at the second night performance. Some generational loss. B

Killing Eve Pilot Episode – Nice face (2018)
For a show that shares a serious tone and explores dark themes I found myself laughing as I found the episode refreshingly relatable.
The actors shared nice comfortable chemistry, they understood their material and acted in a very natural way, nothing was forced. A good contrast of story-telling but it’s also wonderful to watch characters get through tough times with humour, not only was I laughing at the well-presented timing but there was a relatability to them. I don’t think the comedy would have sold me if it wasn’t for the actor’s relationships. The writing requires a level of professionalism where I feel in the wrong hands would come across slap shtick.
Sandra Oh who plays the protagonist Eve Polastri seems effortless with her performance, I found her natural and very believable. She bounces well off the other actors, it seemed like she pitched the ball down the center for them to hit a home run, always nailing the punchlines. The relationship I enjoyed most with her was David Haig. Who plays Bill Pargrave. Their scenes are where I was laughing the most, SPOILER – my favourite part of theirs was when Eve beats Bill to calling the boss a “dick swab” after he just stated that’s what he’s always wanted to do when he got fired. So, he says “hey I was going to call him a dick swab.” Just the way how he delivered the line was so playful and fun, This is why I felt I could relate to the characters. We’ve all been in a position to call your boss or someone you hate a name but we never have the guts to do it. That’s why this scene is so good, it’s not a matter of being there, we all want to be there. I’ll be putting “dick swab” into my everyday language.
The only sort of forced comedic scene I can think of was Edyta Budnik’s performance of the murdered husbands survived wife. In the interrogation scene being interviewed by Eve, Edyta was flaring her arms and bursting random Polish to the point I couldn’t even understand body language. From all the naturalistic acting, I found this scene quite jarring. I understand that she was trying to convey someone who was manic, but I only saw mania. I didn’t really believe the emotion she was conveying, watching your husband being murdered in cold blood. There was no meaning for the mania, I felt it was just a lead up for the “small boob” punchline (which was hilarious.) The point of the interrogation scene was completely missed and had potential to be better. It was an excuse for stupidity, which was so out of place for the episode showing mostly intelligence. The only point for that scene was the “small boob” gag.
I LOVED the very first interaction of Jodie Comer’s performance with playing Villanelle. A good example of visual story telling without any dialect, just in the first 3 minutes of the episode I understood that she was the antagonist of the series but a likeable villain. Well, at the very least I like her. The playfulness Jodie does is wonderful to watch, she’s so captivating. The best part was knowing exactly what she was going to do
(the joke – deliberately spilling ice cream on a child). It was never forced fed to me like a baby I was just left with anticipation being on the edge of my seat, which is good story story-telling and a great way to introduce to your audience who exactly your character is and what the tone of your story is Knowing that this is the villain of the story, but a likeable villain you root for. A very good introduction.
The humour in this show is filled with relatable content of moments we wished we had, the world that they have is the world we have with invisible arguments in our showers of what we wished we said and did. That is the beauty of stories, to watch characters we can relate too but wish to be. That’s why the comedy writing works with the actors it has, It’s alive and magical.

London Theater Reviews: Brexit Britain Through the Lens of a Russian Master
There’s no denying the political realities when talk turns to the hopes and aspirations of a local Polish cleaner, Krystyna (Edyta Budnik), who is herself brought in to replace one-half of an older British couple whose employment has come with the purchase of the house. Those roles are neatly taken by Christopher Fairbank as the resident gardener and Margot Leicester — seen in London and on Broadway in Mr. Bartlett’s “King Charles III” — as his ailing wife.
The director, Rupert Goold, collaborated with Mr. Bartlett on “King Charles III” and does even more nuanced work this time, with a Chekhovian sense of life caught in the moment compromised only by a first-act conclusion that tilts toward melodramatic excess. (Do we really need accompanying thunder?) The ensemble is easily the equal of Mr. Goold’s current London hit, “Ink,” and it finds an equivalent to that play’s male face-offs in the distaff tensions that build in “Albion” between Audrey and her longtime friend, Katherine (Helen Schlesinger), a novelist whose choice of partner — not to be revealed here — lifts the proceedings toward fever pitch. And defending the satirical thrust of a recent book, Katherine could well be Mr. Bartlett answering those who questioned his treatment of the British royal family in “King Charles III.”

While the lineup of women extends from Ms. Hamilton and the ever-trenchant Ms. Schlesinger through to Vinette Robinson as the stricken partner of Audrey’s deceased but much fought-over son, the men impress mightily as well.
Nicholas Rowe is in rare form as a carefree househusband who has little else to do but try out his new home’s various bathrooms, and a young newcomer, Luke Thallon, locates in the sweetly obliging neighbor, Gabriel, both this play’s version of Konstantin, the abject writer in “The Seagull,” and a questing teenager who belongs recognizably to the here and now. In much the same way, Mr. Bartlett responds to Chekhov even as he refashions him, any temporal divide bridged by one’s awareness that humankind viewed in its tragicomic amplitude is as rare and wondrous in today’s theater as it was a century ago.
A notably evasive response by Audrey to a crucial question posed by Zara turns out to be a pivotal plot point in “Albion,” which is to be additionally commended for mining aspects of morality with an empathy missing from “The Lie.” The French writer Florian Zeller’s companion piece to “The Truth,” seen in London early last year, “The Lie” more or less consists of one double-bluff after another, across nearly 90 minutes with no intermission, as is this playwright’s norm. (The play, translated by Christopher Hampton, runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory until Nov. 18.)
The characters here have the same names as the quartet in “The Truth,” and the director, Lindsay Posner, and leading man, Alexander Hanson, were part of the creative team for the English-language premiere of the earlier play: This time, Mr. Hanson came in to replace James Dreyfus, who departed the production during rehearsals because of illness.
In every way that matters, though, “The Lie” feels like a programmatic and wearying also-ran that was written perhaps to perpetuate its author’s fondness for neatly paired titles; Mr. Zeller first came to attention in London (and, later, New York) as the author of the darkly themed “The Father,” which itself was followed Off West End by a play called — you guessed it “The Mother.” (That one remains Mr. Zeller’s best to date.)
But whereas “The Truth” began with an adulterous liaison witnessed firsthand, the mounting indiscretions that drive “The Lie” are mostly reported — right up to a coda that generates too little a frisson too late. The opening finds the distracted and prickly Alice (Samantha Bond) eager to cancel the dinner party to which she and her husband, Paul (Mr. Hanson), have invited Paul’s best buddy, Michel (Tony Gardner, uncannily resembling a younger Colin Firth), and his wife, Laurence (Alexandra Gilbreath, effortlessly chic).

Why is Alice so jittery? It seems that she was riding in a Parisian cab when she happened to see Michel kissing an unidentified woman in the street, and so Alice is uneasy about having to face Michel across a dinner table in the company of the cuckolded Laurence.
To say that events are soon upended is to soft-pedal a dramatic strategy that consists of a melee of lies that turn out to be true, alongside the opposite: so much so that the audience is left not so much spinning, as was the case with “The Truth,” but chafing at the puppetry of a playwright busily contorting his characters into one self-contradictory posture after another.
Mr. Hanson and Ms. Bond are married in real life, which surely allows for intriguing pillow talk as they perform material in which adultery is pretty much regarded as a given. But I couldn’t help but feel that both these terrific actors appeared uncomfortable less with the play’s sexually covert landscape and more with its gathering artificiality. Much is made early in “The Lie” about wine needing room to breathe, to which one might add that characters do, too.
