I created an interactive winter wonderland in for my in-laws' Christmas Eve party, and man... nothing compares to seeing the joy this tech brings to first-time users.
People light up and act like children again, no matter their age. It's truly a privilege to behold.

About Me/FAQ
Hey, welcome to my blog! This is my -well, usually- Marvel-centric blog that has everything WinterIron, Bucky Barnes, and Tony Stark, as well as some general shitposts of my own wild adventures. I figured it’s best to keep up this trend of updating my ‘About Me’ page every follower milestone. So thank you all so much for over 3,000 followers, I never expected to break that many followers, let alone in less than a year on Tumblr. I appreciate each and everyone one of you, so really, thank you for sticking around with my bullshit.
Per the usual, I don’t do drama, I don’t do discourse. If you have a serious problem with me or anything I’ve written/done on this blog, please take it up with me personally. I will delete anon hate (if I get any, I haven’t gotten any yet…) and I think it’s all just pointless. I can be salty and derpy sometimes, but I will never purposely say something malicious. I’m not here for that negativity.
Now, to the FAQs.
Do you have an Ao3/Pillowfort/other social media?
I do have an Ao3, you can find me at Gothic_Lolita. I don’t cross-post everything, and a lot of my stuff on Ao3 isn’t WinterIron or even Bucky or Tony-centric, so if you’d like to see some other stuff I write, feel free to check over there. I don’t have a Pillowfort, nor do I plan on getting one. It took me forever to get this platform right, I’m not in the place to bother learning how to navigate a new one. I don’t do Snapchat or Instagram or Twitter because I am not nearly basic or cool enough for that stuff. The only social media I use is Tumblr and Pinterest, and trust me, my Pinterest is nothing interesting enough to be worth linking.
Do you have a tagging system?
I’m… trying, honestly. I’m trying to adjust my tags and systems because of the… wildness Tumblr is having with blocking and purging certain tags. I try to be funny in my tags, and I swear a lot, and apparently ‘fuck’ is being filtered out of the tag search, so that’s fun and completely screwed me over. As it stands, the important tags are ‘winteriron-trash writes’ (my writing tag), ‘shitposting with becca’ (any wild shitposts of my own sad creation), ‘not about marvel’ (any posts that are my general bullshittery and not Marvel related), ‘becca gives mediocre writing advice’ (a new tag I’m trying to use that’ll tag any post that I give writing advice on), ‘becca spills the tea’ (a tag for whenever I post my metas or opinions on Marvel characters, plots, etc), and the citrus scale which I explain in a post here
Do you write original fiction?
Yes, but I rarely, if ever, post it. I think I have all of one poem on Tumblr, any absolutely nothing original on Ao3. I write original works all the time, especially poetry and novels, but I’m super shy about being vulnerable and putting my stuff out there. I do wanna post my original writing somehow, but considering a fandom blog and Ao3 aren’t really the place for it, I’ll just keep it all hidden inside of me, and one day I’ll die. You’re more than welcome to ask me about any of my original writings, trust me, I am always willing to ramble about the shit I write, it’s pathetic.
What type of fanfiction do you write?
For this blog, mostly WinterIron fics or gen fics focused on Bucky or Tony. I do write about OT3s on here occasionally, but they usually include WinterIron in some way. Most of the time. I’ve somehow gotten to writing some weird stuff lately, to be honest. I’ll work with MCU, Sony Venom, and Spiderverse characters and canon, with the occasionally comic canon shoved in there. I have occasionally written crossover content with DC characters, but that usually relies on comic versions -or at least my own remixes of them- rather than the DCEU. On my masterlist, you can check out all the things I’ve written!
What are your ships besides WinterIron? NOTPs?
I’ll ship almost anything, and I’m a huge fan of rarepairs/interesting relationships simply to explore the possibilities of it, particularly when they include Bucky or Tony. My top OTPs besides WinterIron are currently Phlint, FalconShield, and BlackPepper. As for NOTPs, I strongly dislike Stucky, Stuckony, Thorki, and Staron for reasons of just not being able to see those characters together romantically. Feel free to send me the wildest rarepair your mind can think of, chances are I’ve probably already thought of it myself so I’d love the chance to ramble about/write for it. I’m a big fan of weird OT3s as well, just see the weird shit on my masterlist.
Are you in any fandoms besides Marvel?
I’m into DC, Star Trek, classic literature, Percy Jackson/HoO/Kane Chronicles, She-Ra, Carmen Sandiego, indie gaming, Supernatural, vulture culture, HYDRA Trash Party, and musicals. Yes, I’m aware I was born to be a geek. Trust me, I’ve grown very used to it.
Do you take prompts?
Honestly, sending me a prompt/headcanon/idea is a shot in the dark. I have prompts sitting in my inbox that has been there for about a year that I’ve been meaning to write. Chances are if you send me a prompt yes I’ve seen it, yes I think it’s lovely, but god I do not have the time. Occasionally a prompt will really grab my eye and I’ll just have to write something for it, but sometimes even that can take months to finish. Don’t be surprised if you send me a prompt and I randomly fill it seven months later. I’m prone to doing so. I love being tagged in existing prompt/headcanon posts and asked to write it (as I have a bad habit of hijacking posts to write stuff for them to begin with…) just know that once again the chances of me writing it are about a 50/50. Also, make sure the OP is okay with you asking me to write it, it’s never my intention to steal someone else’s spotlight, I just want to take cool ideas and throw my two cents in.
Is there anything you won’t write?
Drugs and alcohol are hard nos for me. They’re personal triggers that if you really want to know more about, you can send me an ask or message about. If I’ve listed something as a NOTP, I will not write anything with it. I strongly dislike writing kid fics, mundane AUs, damsel in distress Tony fics, and A/B/O, but I’m willing to work with an idea if it’s good enough. It really depends on the situation.
Do you offer writing advice/reviews?
Yep! I’m down to answer any questions on writing fanfic or just writing in general. I love talking about writing and all that. Seriously, I like talking about writing almost as much as I like talking about Marvel. I’m more than open to reading a few chapters of your fic or book or whatever and telling you my honest thoughts, but I probably won’t have time to read all of it if it’s more than 5k long, because I’m just a busy person. And I will be honest because I want to be helpful. Don’t ask me for my honest opinion if you just want your ego stroked.
Can I ask your opinion on [insert topic here]?
Always. I am always open to sharing my honest opinions, regardless of backlash I’ll receive for it. I’d rather be my honest self online -the one place I can be my honest self- then a fake mask made to please others. Whether it be fandom ships, in-universe meta, or non-fandom related topics, feel free to ask me. I love talking meta, or just general thoughts and opinions on random stuff. Trust me, I’m far too opinionated for my own good. Ask literally anyone who’s met me.
How long have you been writing?
All seventeen years of my sad, sad life. I loved writing stupid little stories when I was a kid, that slowly morphed into shitty “books”, then I went through a poetry phase in junior high, and when I was about 14 I wrote my first fanfiction. I posted my first fanfic when I was 15, and have been posting fanfiction for over a year and a half now. I started Tumblr in late February but didn’t start writing fics here until about March because I am a shy bitch.
Aaaaaaand now for some stupid shit about me you didn’t ask for.
My name is Becca, or Winter, or Dumbass, whatever you prefer, and I’m a dumbfuck 17 yr old lesbian from upstate New York. (The ‘upstate’ part is important. Don’t ask me if I live in NYC. Just don’t.) I’m a junior in high school and planning to study English and Marketing in college, to hopefully become an editor. Hopefully. I’m actually a pretty boring and dumb bitch, which makes it all the more concerning that I am steadily gaining popularity on this hellsite. Someone help me.
I mentioned some of my interests above, but some other stuff I’m into includes knitting, playing piano, tea, collecting (hoarding) notebooks, photography, editing, music, and being a general idiot. I’m a wild child in ripped jeans and a leather jacket, which should not fool you because I’m far too shy and afraid of everything to be cool like that. I sound a lot cooler online because I’ve gotten so used to online interactions from making friends and running my own Discord server, but in real life I am unrecognizable. I’ve been in a grade of 60 people with the same people since kindergarten and some of them still don’t know my name.
I’m mentally ill and all that, but we’re working on getting… better. Writing schedules are a mess from me and sometimes I’m falling apart so, that’s fun. It doesn’t usually affect my blog because I internalize that shit, but occasionally the self-deprecating humor can get to be a little too close to the truth. And just the general spastic nature of my blog reflects the utter chaos of my mind.
So anyway, that’s me, please be my friend. Also, because this seems to come up more and more. Please don’t be afraid of me/intimidated by me. I know I look all cool and popular, but I am literally a hot mess just like the rest of us. If you want to climb your way into my messages and just,,,, scream at me about something you think I’d like, or just scream in general, go ahead. I really won’t mind, I promise. I need… friends, or so my therapist tells me.
Oh, and here’s a face reveal.
Tumblr media
Yes, I am that absolute idiot of a person, lying splat in the middle of my elementary playground field for,,,, reasons???? I don’t really remember the story behind that picture tbh, but it’s my entire personality in a single picture, so I dig it.
And here’s my actual face, with a cheap ring in my mouth and a fox filter because I thought I looked cute, okay? Leave me be.
Tumblr media
Tadah.
I swear I’m funny and talented sometimes, please like me.
As always, feel free to send me an ask or a message about anything you’d like.
Check out my Masterlist if you want, and join my Discord Server.

Old is the New New
Not really. But the question of how and whether innovation happens in the digital age is a perennial one. I remember a drunken New Year’s Eve conversation a decade or more ago with a friend complaining that there was never going to be another summer of love or punk or acid house revolution, and me saying we’re too ready to pre-empt that in the UK now, but subcultural things like that could very well happen in places like Kinshasa or Kuala Lumpur or Kiev... and indeed music is a part of major cultural shifts around the world.
Tumblr media
Listening to the We Out Here compilation really got me going this year though. It’s so vivid and of the now, without having any of the high-tech signifiers that we of the post-rave generations have come to recognise as representing newness. But in the bodily movements of the players are encoded London life 2018, just as much as they are in drill MCs’ voices or whatever deconstructed club beat patterns are working for people right now. Though that perhaps only makes sense if you understand the soul-jazz continuum as it is woven through London music. Not that you NEED to, mind, because the music operates on an instant, pleasure-principle level too. My full review I wrote for the Wire is above...
We Out Here by We Out Here
...but that review in turn then set off a few tangents, which became a Twitter thread, which I have tidied up as follows:
A short rant on people who use "innovation" as their primary yardstick for judging music.
If you do this, you are judging music first of all as A Cultural Phenomenon - an abstraction - and sidelining both the sound itself and what it is doing for the real people who love it. If people still love to dance to / make drum'n'bass 20 years on, or deep house 30 years on, or jazz-funk 40 years on, or garage rock 50 years on, or R&B 60 years on, or whatever, and your first response is to accuse them of lack of inspiration, you've gone wrong somewhere. We can't always be in a Cambrian Explosion period like 70s NYC or 90s UK where globally important musical species are created seemingly willy-nilly. Comparing the normal pace of innovation to those explosive times is foolishness. And worse, it denies lasting value to music.
I've been thinking of this wrt the current buzz of what you might call "post-Plastic People jazz" - music which doesn't sound overtly new, but is still vivid with value in the here and now. Thing is, there's always been top parties where you could dance to jazz if you looked. And whether it was 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, that music had the same instant value in the heat of a club, both for its direct effect on the body and from the fact that it tended to attract some of the most diverse crowds: something that always leads to a better party. Does it lose value over the decades, just because it's not the first time it's being played in that style? Christ no. Does sex become less good because you've done it a few times?
The motives of ppl who insist that newer ≡ better are highly suspect & usually proprietorial.
This doesn't mean things don't change. The concept of "timelessness" is metaphysical and equally suspect. OBVIOUSLY dancing to drum'n'bass at 4am in 2018 is different to 1998. But when the beat drops there's real continuity of physical/emotional/social experience. All of this is no shade on innovation, either! Indeed it's rly the "innovation is dead" argument that diminishes real & amazing developments. From Chino Amobi and Elysia Crampton to mainstream hip hop over the last decade to any number of 'developing world' sounds, it's rife. Innovation is vital, we celebrate it, we seek it out. But to use it as your main measure of social and aesthetic value is bullshit.
"Oh nice house you designed and built with your own hands there... BUT DID YOU INVENT THE CONCEPT OF HOUSES, HMMM??"
Aside from sidelining the value of craft, folk art etc in favour of a vision of "inventiveness" that is always tied up in a tangle of sketchy ideas about cultural superiority, it just suggests you're more wrapped up in your own valuations than in the thing you're evaluating. And with huge irony it's often nostalgia-based: people want to see the same kind of innovation that blew them away when they were first launching out on their own voyage of discovery. It's quite egotistical in these cases, it's centring ideas of progress around your own tastes. Tangentially, there’s probably a whole PhD thesis on compering the theory bro’s modernism with the tech bro’s disruption. But more generally, this desperation to repeat a particular type of innovation v often seems like attempt to isolate "modernism" or "innovation" as an essential quality divorced from historical context. And essentialism and ahistoricalism are bad.
NONE of this is to say that retroism, revival, tradition etc etc are worthwhile qualities in and of them selves, of course. You still have to make aesthetic and cultural judgements yourself about what you're hearing and how it's consumed! Being familiar or traditional in itself doesn't make anything good, any more than it makes it bad.
Here’s another thing. Old things can still smash preconceptions. If you’re so jaded you think Sun Ra or Kate Bush or The Butthole Surfers or Coki don’t have something new to say to you, let alone a 15 yr old hearing them for the first time, I feel for you. These things, heard in the right light, can be as modernist as they ever were.
A tangent, on the job of music critics, and how we value the music of the past:
I think we all to one degree or another internalise the notion that popular music is aesthetically "cheap" because of the illusion of infinite availability, as compared to art or "art music". If you watch art/history on BBC4 you see Andrew Graham Dixon or Janina Ramirez waxing lyrical about the qualities of the pieces of art themselves, as expressions of their time. In BBC4 pop music history – unless it's one of those very specialist musicological things with Howard Goodall – it very much tends to be biographical and social history above all else. Can't help feeling that's because there's a reverence for the artworks, that comes from not everyone being able to go to Florence or New York or whatever and see them in the flesh - but everyone can hear "Purple Haze" or "Strings of Life" any time they want, right?
And to my original point about modernism vs retro, I suspect that adds to a cultural forgetting of how radical, say, "Purple Haze" not only was, but STILL IS. Isn't there a value in talking about it not in a Classic Rock way, not in a cultural history way, but in the way we'd talk about a Picasso? "Purple Haze"/"Strings of Life" perhaps are not good examples actually, because they DO at least get the historical reverence treatment on occasion (though this, too, is more based on historical context than aesthetic antalysis). There's thousands upon thousands more records that - if criticism is going to have any purpose - deserve to be looked at, over and over, AS ARTWORKS.
Especially DJing for Big Fish Little Fish parties I listen to & play a lot of what might be called cheesy dance classics, and I continually listen to them closely as a result. The diff between listening hard to Music Sounds Better With You or the Hardfloor mix of Yeke Yeke and just HEARING them as background in a bar or on the radio is like the difference between seeing a Miró or Warhol full sized and up close, and seeing a postcard of one. And actually those records are as great as works of human intellect and instinct as most Great Gallery Art. When you are up close to - in fact INSIDE - those records as they were built to be heard, their sense of balance, scale contrast, movement, balanced chaos/control, etc etc etc is up there with a Kandinsky or Braque. Obviously Capitalism doesn't value it as such, mind... And I think we (critics) unconsciously undervalue that too. So we talk about the past as movements, moments of cultural significance, but all too rarely about how the patterns and tics and structures of X record embody that and what power they still have now. People often talk of the job of critics as just being either explainers, enthusers, conceptualists or a glorified recommendation algorithm. But if the WRITING part of writing about music is ever to have any value, then what about just discussing and bearing witness?
All of which brings us back to the thing about fetishising innovation. We live in a world where thousands or more of people globally are hearing Nu Groove reissues, or rediscovered tapes from Benin, or some twisted Catalan synthpop record from 1981, FOR THE FIRST TIME. While at the same time, in mainstream and underground, soundcloud rapper and Elysia Crampton records are startling and scaring with newness. And elsewhere people – let's take the 100% Silk label or Dekmantel in Amsterdam as prime examples – are maintaining past sounds as living folk traditions. When you hear a set of Robert Hood type minimal techno, even if you don't share his spiritual beliefs and sense of the eternal, you can certainly feel it as being several steps away from the microhistorical cycles of hype. Because of course devotional or ecstatic music is consistently resistant to - or doesn't need - innovation. A shaman chanting in Uruguay, Sufi dancers in Pashtun country, a choir in Hereford Cathedral, Niyabinghi drummers - what do THEY care for the Shock of the New? But from the global 'old' music forms to the crate diggers' early house compilations to the super innovative post-Arca electronicisits, all of these things ARE our present. It's an extraordinary musical-historical moment to be part of. Scary, unpredictable, best of times / worst of times, etc but fucking extraordinary - including the presence of the past, whether unearthed or transmitted through living tradition. We should bear witness to that!

The registration key that you buy will be valid for all future versions of JVComm32, too. It is also valid for so called 'pre-releases' of new JVComm32 version. Program available for Snap-on diagnostic platforms still eligible for software upgrades. Enrollment fee is separate and not eligible for weekly or monthly payment option. Rates and terms are subject to credit approval at time of sale and terms of the program and contract. Not everyone will be approved. Payment based on 12-month term for. So, how would these scan tools compare to the Snap On Modus or Verus? It seems in my area everyone says the Snap On Tools scanners are the ones to have. I just have a hard time dealing with a company that seems to always be A LOT higher in price than other companies. Andy Driveline & Gear Service Fallon, NV.
we also have just purchased a Maxisys! so far so good, some minor issues but didn't pay $7,000.00 more. Reason for changing: 1. Verus Pro = Slower than molasses is January when booting and this is AFTER we installed a SSD drive.. REALLY? i really think it got slower??? 2. Software Updates. slow in coming and WAY over $$$$ 3. Hardware that 10+ yrs old???? come on snap-on.. build a computer with some speed and get rid of WINXP. really????? computer hardware prices is NOT that high anymore.. QUAD CORE?? monitor 1024x600 what's with that ODD ball size?..better quality camera wouldn't hurt.. anyone can buy a laptop today for $300.00 that would run circles around this $10,000.00 thing.. yah, yah, i know, there is more to it than just that.. you can still build one hell of a computer for $1,000.00 and you can still charge your $9,000.00 for the software thats on it. i know this Maxisys does not have a 4 channel lab/ignition scope but $10,000.00 for Verus pro or $3,000.00 for the Maxisys, with weekly updates, hmmm, let me do the math?.. i didn't know lab/ignitions scopes cost $7,000.00?? hmmm Well, things are going to have to get much better in the snapon world before i look at anymore snap-on diagnostic equipment. really, for what snapon charges for, now i guess we will call it a subscription fee, they should throw in shopkey & suretrack. give your customers a little something in return for all the $$$ they spend with you.. OH, wait a minute, that's NOT the corporate thing to do these days, is it?? not like it was in the 50's or 60's when big business gave back a little to there customers.. getting off my soap box for now. have a great day! thanks for thinking of us..LOL

2020 American Heroes 100
I was pretty sure that the American Heroes 100 mile run would not happen this year.  Back in May, the 49 yr old race director died from complications of back surgery.  Most races have been cancelled this year due to COVID.  There were no updates on the race webpage or FaceBook, so it seemed like it just wouldn’t happen.  I kept looking for some kind of announcement either way and finally, a couple weeks ago, I learned that the race would go on after all.  I had just finished the 4 month long virtual race across Tennessee – 1270 miles covered from May 4 to August 30.  I waited a whole 24 hours after finishing that to sign up for American Heroes.  The week before the race was kind of crazy.  Wildfires nearby and on the west coast were causing terrible air quality. We had been having very high temperatures and then on Tuesday, a big cold front came in dropping temps by 50 some degrees and bringing snow and rain.  The forecast showed a nice rebound by the Friday morning start.  Five days before the race, I was working on making a flagstone patio.  Moving the stones and 50 lb sacks of sand strained my back a little so I decided no more of that before the race.
Friday morning, I finished packing my gear and loaded up the van.  Shah kinesio taped my low back in the same pattern as last year (partially for the low back strain I already had and preventive because I’ve had low back pain in other ultras).  I often get a bad pain in the neck/shoulder area on the left side during long runs, so I also got a piece of kinesio tape on my neck hoping I could avoid that. Kinesio tape is magic for me!  I did my usual foot taping and was ready to go by 8:30.
Tumblr media
I got my camp all set up in the Roger’s Grove park in Longmont, picked up my race number, ankle bracelet (this race has both ankle bracelet chip and chip on the bib to make sure the chip reader doesn’t miss any laps) and shirt then had a bit of time before the start at 10:11.  There are many different distances for this race, all with start times corresponding to events of 9/11.  The 100 mile race has a 30 hour time limit, ending at 4:11 Saturday afternoon.  The sky was overcast and temp was perfect for running, low 60’s at the start.  Fifteen people entered this year but only six of us showed up.
Tumblr media
At 10:11, we hit the trail. The course is 1.05 mile loops of mostly dirt, sand/gravel and a little bit of pavement.  Pat was the first of many of my running buddies there to keep me company.  She ran the first 16 miles with me.  Not too long after she left, Shah showed up and he walked a lap with me.  He also brought me a spicy chicken sandwich from Popeyes – I decided I would hold on to that for after the race.  Spicy anything during a long run is not a good idea!  When we finished that lap, Donna was at my camp. Her car was in the shop a couple blocks away getting new tires, so it was convenient (under the circumstances, though not that convenient overall for her!) to walk over to the park.  We walked together for six laps.  I was feeling fine, but getting some hot spots on my left foot despite all my preventive taping.  I don’t typically have issues with my feet but have had this same problem the last two years at this race.  On the off chance that it was my shoes or socks causing the problem, I changed both.  The foot pain was annoying but tolerable.  At 4:11, about 15 runners in the 24 hour race started so there were a few more runners on the course.
I normally don’t eat anything from the aid stations, just stick to my Hammer Nutrition fuels, but they had these delicious fig cookies and I thought it would be ok, so I ate a couple.  Sometime late afternoon, I was a few tenths of a mile away from the bathroom (we get real indoor flush toilets at this race!) when I realized I needed to be there NOW. I almost made it.  Luckily it was not a catastrophic event – could have been much worse!  I think figs are just a bit too much fiber for me during a race.  After that, I had what just felt like pressure in my low gut. Not awful nausea or cramping, but not quite right and it made it hard for me to take in calories.  Sometime in late afternoon, a guy walking his dog asked me “is this the same race that was going on this morning?”  Yep – it’ll still be going on tomorrow morning and afternoon too!
By evening, it was getting pretty cool out.  I gradually added long sleeve shirt, light wind breaker, light gloves, down jacket, light beanie, warmer beanie and warmer gloves.  Judy arrived a little after 8:00 with a Smashburger for me and she joined me for ?? miles.  I was getting chilled and couldn’t really eat much and my stupid foot was still hurting. Around 10:00 I said I wanted to lie down for a few minutes.  I crawled in my sleeping bag and warmed up while Judy patiently sat outside.  My timer went off after 10 minutes and we got back to walking.  I think she left around 11:00.  At midnight, I decided I was ready for a nap so I set my timer for 30 minutes and crawled into my sleeping bag.  It felt so good, I stayed there another 30 minutes.  I went back out for another hour, then back to the tent at 1:00.  I think the combination of my gut and my foot were wearing me down.  I probably could have managed just one of those things.  I kept setting my timer for 30 minutes and at some point, I did the math and decided I was not on track for a 100 mile finish.  Once I made that decision, I figured I might as well enjoy the warm sleeping bag and get some rest.  I checked on the toe that hurt so much but it just looked red and angry. Back out to run some more at 4:30. Cat arrived a little after 5:00.  My gut was feeling much better by this time and my only real complaint was my foot.
Tumblr media
I didn’t recognize any runners from the last 2 years, but I did see some people I had seen other places. The first place guy in the 100 mile race had a sign on him that said “Legally Blind”.  I saw him and his pacer at Chase the Moon a couple months ago.  Really nice guy – he somehow knew my name and would always say something nice as he lapped me (many times!)  He apparently has enough vision to run alone sometimes. He had a pacer running ahead of him announcing obstacles and he wore a super bright headlamp.  He was coming up behind Judy and me and we heard his pacer tell him to step up (dirt path met up with sidewalk) and then we heard an awful crash.  He didn’t make that step up.  It hardly seemed to faze him though.  He just jumped right up and kept on running.  I also recognized a runner I had seen at races in California.  His nickname is “the running jester” and he’s easily recognizable by his clothes and jester’s hat.  He was there for the 24 hour race.  Saturday morning, I saw a woman I’ve visited with at several races around here so we chatted for a bit.  One of the really nice things about a short loop course is that you get to see the same people many times and there’s a nice camaraderie to that.  It’s especially nice to see how the fast people just keep on with such a steady pace.
Tumblr media
As the morning went on, all the shorter distance races began and these annoyingly fresh-looking runners joined us on the course.  Julie came and joined us for some miles later in the morning.  Saturday was warming up a lot more than Friday.  I was starting to think about when would be a good quitting point.  Since I knew I wasn’t going to make 100, I should pick some meaningful distance. Cat was game for pretty much any distance (within reason, of course) and she planned on running marathon distance so I was thinking maybe 80 miles would be good.  My toe was really throwing a tantrum though and I came up with a new goal: 78.6 miles.  That’s 3 marathons distance and I could finish a couple laps sooner than 80.
Tumblr media
I ran most of that last lap and finished with a sprint.  The RD tried to convince me that I should go for another one but I was already mentally done.  My final distance was 78.75 miles in 26:12, including 5 ½ hours of resting.  My back and neck were never an issue thanks to the Kinesio tape.  I’ve got a year to figure out how to protect that pinky toe so I can go the full distance next year.  I think the problem is going in a circle, always turning to the right.  I never have this problem in other races!
Tumblr media
Sunday morning update: I feel fine this morning and the problem toe is just tender.  When I drained that blister last night, the toenail was just kind of floating around on that loose blister skin.  It will be interesting to see how that heals.  I would be fine if the nail doesn’t come back after it inevitably falls off. I think I would be ok if that whole toe just fell off!  My legs aren’t sore and I’m ready to meet up with Julie and Cat for a short easy run. Thanks to all the Allenspark Pack Runners who made my run so much more fun!

Short Hair Styles for Older Women - 20+ - https://shorthaircutsmodels.com/short-hair-styles-for-older-women/ - Short Hair Styles for Older Women, The Today show also does some great makeovers and it's. Always fun not to let people see themselves in. The mirror until they're live on stage and see their reaction to look at themselves in the mirror for the first time. honestly yet another reason "reading too much into it" for gay/trans material in media is a shit argument based on nothing but ones fragile bigotry is that since the early days there was pearl clutching about what could be shown in movies and the first attempt to regulate what could be shown in theaters was a bunch of states saying that police chiefs would choose which movies could be shown within their locality. and then the mpaa was created in an attempt to preempt federal censorship, and the hays code was created to require each film to be certified by the mpaa and it was not only a list of stuff that wasn't allowed but also a "moral code" that films needed to promote, and guess whom wrote that moral code? that's right, an actual catholic priest. so that involves a fuckton of guidelines on how to properly present the Genders, which mostly means no women's chests and skirts down to the fingertips ok. betty boop was a threat to america. but most of all there was the obsession with sex, and how it really wasn't even allowed to be alluded to so even when telling cishet stories, if you wanted to talk about sex as a concept or activity or topic of which anyone had any knowledge of interest, you had to encode everything and make everything really subtle and metaphorical. kinda like the "school dance supervisor" gag where someones running around making sure nobody's touching too much while they share a passionate gaze and that all kisses are brief and chaste enough and follow a properly moral christian hetero wooing. there was some movie later that edgily cheats the guidelines of "kisses can only last so long" by making a really long kiss scene that just so happens to have precisely timed pauses to exhange words. i dont remember what it is and i dont care to look it up becoz i dont want to be reminded of being made to look at olden straight kissing scenes where the guy is always 20 yrs older and it has all the awkward stuff to say "this is passionate and sexual ok but there has to be No Tongue" the hays code stuff started in the 30s and fighting it off really started to make headway in the 50s when some films just decided not to get the certified approval, and then when some like it hot and psycho both lacked the certification but were also hugely successful, that was a huge boost for the "not adhering to promoting catholic moral standards" agenda and by the time you got to the 60s it began to be more of a thing to consider having mainstream movies not be all about white cishet straightedge waiting-til-marriage characters living catholic-white-jesus-approved lives so basically when you look at old b&w movies and it's like "oh there's a kinda gay moment but clearly they're just smiling and looking at each other and standing kinda close and expressing an emotional connection but calling it gay naturally is a corruption of purity and wholesomeness and somehow bringing up sexuality of any kind taints and nullifies other bonds so" thats bs. even the straight stuff could barely involve kissing and gay shit couldnt involve kissing OR speaking of it. since yknow gay people didnt exist back then all over the place. and then its not like that didnt bleed into tv when the time came, tho that was a common fixture only by the time the hays code was being more frequently challenged, still it was built on everything media had been doing for the past half century or so. and then of course there's the cheat of "gay love stories are allowed only if it leads to showing how being gay leads to tragedy in ruin, so we just make a regular love story until you get someone killed at the end and the other is probably destitute or whatever," which totally didnt become the only story the straights knew how to tell and why gayness always leads to being killed or some other form of doom anyways i know very little about film history so i dont know specifics about the weird particulars of the hays code or the production of early films that didnt adhere to the code coz i know they existed before the 50s. and also especially before the 30s coz there wasn't really any official enforcement prior to trying to require that approval. tfw watching tcm with a pad of paper to play Spot The Gay Stuff. tell me all about it ben mankiewicz
