I'm losing it a little over just how well they set the Aequilibria up as a threat and make the players feel it in just this one quest
They'd been setting up how dangerous that manatech bomb was for five years. The moment it first showed up on screen, we saw Warlic scared by it for reasons he couldn't articulate. When Akanthus took it to be modified, we saw Amadeus wary of it. We saw what it leaking even a little bit did to Yix. Even without the Mechquest context, the game has been blaring at us, for five years, that this thing is Bad News, as loudly as they possibly could
and then it goes off
it goes off in the worst possible circumstances it could, hits us with five years of built up dread, we failed, we were too late, and...
...nothing happens. The aftereffects of this deadly threat that could've wiped Swordhaven off the map just dissipate in a few seconds.
And we get that moment of relief, that joy that Akanthus was wrong, that realisation that the thing we thought was under threat is more resilient than we feared, that moment of oh, the mana core is stronger than that
And then the Aequilibria wake up
And we get hit with it again, but this time it's

man okay so I used to play mechquest and dragonfable back in like, 2008 when I was a kid with very little patience to follow a storyline. coming back as an adult and finishing mechquest has absolutely slapped me silly with how deep and serious the story is in between all the absurdist humour. I have. so many emotions over the whole storyline, and especially so many thoughts about the unique form of tragedy that is The Reset.
You save the world but it's not the world anymore. You and your friends survive but you don't know each other anymore- have nothing left of the lives you fought to keep. You 'save' everything but it's still all gone. Everything you knew and loved, gone, and you don't even know what you've lost. You can't even keep the memory of what you had- and that's almost kinder compared to being one of the 3ish people who DO remember... and have to live around everyone else who doesn't, knowing their closest friends look at them and see a stranger, and that they may as well be because they aren't that person they remember being.
And to top it all off, that terrible sacrifice doesn't even end it. you're still left fighting impossible and devastating wars over and over. It's the tragedy of doomed time loops with extra layers of devastating all over the place. The GEARS University students being forced to become soldiers because they're all that's left to protect their homeworld. The horrors of the Shadowscythe virus taking over friends and loved ones you may be forced to put down to save yourself. The town of Falconreach burning over and over because no matter how hard they fight, it's never enough. The people like Sha'rae who sacrifice themselves to try and prevent tyrrany from seizing power, only for it to be utterly useless.
Anyway the brainrot is severe and especially dangerous since I'm coming into exam season and all my hyperfixated brain wants to do is chew on glass about these games.

Hello friends! It has been a while since I last posted on here. What have I been doing in that time you ask? Well, mostly I have been working on writing & editing a fantasy novel. But more recently, I have started working on something I think my DragonFable friends on here will be interested in.
Here I have the first eight pages of The Land of Rising Evil (DragonFable: The Roleplaying Game). This is a tabletop roleplaying game I have been developing for a while using the Genesys RPG system, bringing the world of Lore (specifically the version from DragonFable) to life in tabletop format.
I have already played one DragonFable campaign with this system, and it was fantastic. As I will be starting another campaign with my friends this summer, I decided to update the rudimentary rulebook I made before into something more official looking that I can share with others. These pictures here show a glimpse at what the book will look like (though I have a long way to go before it is finished).
I also have a couple more example pictures to show what the different sections of “The World of Lore” chapter will look like:
This is a big project, so it will take a while to finish, but I am very excited about it and wanted to share it with all of you. I have already gotten a little help from some of the other wonderful tumblrfable people on here, including @cyraen-ae, who helped me fix up the cover.
I will share other developments along the way, and of course I will share the final pdf with you all when it is done!

Random Reset talk again, but I can't help but love the idea that the Dragonfable Timeline is quintessentially wrong. Like it's a functional timeline, and if you ignore the weekly world-ending threat, you can live in it just fine..
But there's always something missing, right below the surface, always this underlying feeling of loss, of something being misplaced, or, inversely, of events feeling familiar. Of meeting people you've already met. It's not strong enough for most people to notice, but it's there.
Everyone feels it to a certain extent, at times, when things just... don't match up... but they ignore it, dismiss it as just feelings similar to anxiety or deja-vu.
I love the idea of the timeline being, at its core, wrong. An echo of a forgotten universe that's just functional enough for people to not be able to notice what they lost
