Crash course in YJ (and adjacent) Kids
Have no idea what I'm talking about when #comicsposting again? Would like to know? For reference, if you want it, here's a rundown of my comics specialty: DC's cast of teenage heroes on the team Young Justice in the 1990s. Names, powers, backgrounds, etc. I spent way too much time on this.
Tim Drake (Robin)
Age: 14-15.
Powers: None, but highly skilled in acrobatics, detection and martial arts, weapon of choice is a bo staff
Background: Figured out Batman and Robin's secret identities at age nine. Volunteered to be the new Robin shortly after Jason Todd's death because "Batman needs a Robin." Initially the de facto leader of Young Justice with a reputation as the smart guy (but is in fact just as unhinged as the rest of them). Struggles to balance his two identities; he has to conceal Robin from his father and Tim Drake from his Young Justice teammates, which leads to trust issues among the group.
Distinguishing features/costume: Black hair, blue eyes usually concealed by a domino mask with opaque lenses, oval face, short and wiry. Green and red suit with leggings, black and yellow cape (distinct from Dick and Jason's costumes, which were bare-legged and did not have any black, and Damian's, which has much more black, a tunic, and a hooded cape).
Kon-El (Superboy)
Age: 16 physically but chronologically less than 2, is unable to age past 16 for about half the series.
Powers: Tactile telekinesis (TTK), the ability to control anything he can touch, which allows him to mimic super strength, invulnerability, and flight. Does not have Superman's other powers, such as heat vision, x-ray vision, etc.
Background: Clone created by Project Cadmus to be their mind-controlled replacement for Superman after his "death." Escaped before he could be artificially aged to maturity and has been an independent hero since Clark's return. During YJ 1998, is working for Cadmus as a field agent. A habitual show-off and flirt who harbors a lot of private insecurity and doesn't initially function well as a team player.
Distinguishing features/costume: Curly black hair in a fade haircut (later cut short and spiky), blue eyes, strong jaw, significantly taller and more muscular than the others, earring for most of the series, scruffy goatee later on. Initially wears a 90s-ified version of the Superman suit with a black leather jacket, later updates to a metallic version of a suit without the jacket.
Bart Allen (Impulse)
Age: 14-15 physically, chronologically 2-3 due to hyperaccelerated aging for the first two years of his life.
Powers: Superspeed, including the ability to vibrate his molecules through solid objects. Later on he develops the ability to create temporary replicas of himself ("scouts").
Background: Barry Allen/the Flash's grandson from the thirtieth century. Was born with his superspeed out of control and had to be raised in VR to keep his mental aging on track with his physical aging. Brought by his grandmother to the twentieth century to get his rapid aging resolved by Wally West, the current Flash. Currently lives in Manchester, Alabama with Max Mercury, an elderly speedster who is training/raising him. Thanks to his VR upbringing, struggles with patience and thinking things through, but is more intelligent and perceptive than he's usually given credit for.
Distinguishing features/costume: Lots of reddish-brown hair, yellow eyes, big feet, short and wiry. White and red suit with a lightning design, googles with yellow lenses.
Greta Hayes / "Suzie" (Secret)
Age: Never specified but probably around 14-15.
Powers: Exists in an incorporeal, smoke-like form that can float, shapeshift, create smoke constructs, teleport, and become tangible for limited amounts of time. As a Warder, a gatekeeper between life and death, can sense impending death and bring others into a pocket dimension called the Abyss which seems to be a sort of portal to death.
Background: An ordinary girl who was murdered by her brother as part of a ritual and was changed after death into her current incorporeal form. Was held captive by a government organization and studied in a lab but escaped with the help of Robin, Superboy, and Impulse and has been in hiding since. Cannot remember most of her past life, does not understand her powers, and frequently feels alienated from the rest of Young Justice (except Robin, whom she has a crush on), which leaves her vulnerable to those who wish to take advantage of her powers.
Distinguishing features/costume: Blond/light brown shoulder-length hair, blue eyes, smaller than the others, frequently surrounded by smoke. Off-white suit, long and trailing light brown coat.
Cissie King-Jones (Arrowette)
Age: Never specified, but would have to be 16 by the time she competes in the Olympics.
Powers: None, but a highly-skilled archer.
Background: Daughter of a former would-be superheroine who put her daughter through strenuous training and forced her into the identity of Arrowette from an early age. Sent to boarding school after Max Mercury reported her mother to CPS for child exploitation. Took up hero work again to spite her mother but, after a personal tragedy leads her to nearly kill, chooses to quit permanently. Becomes an Olympic athlete and occasional film actress while still keeping in contact with her Young Justice friends.
Distinguishing features/costume: Long blonde hair, blue eyes, oval face, significantly taller than the other girls. Red top, white skirt, and red boots and mask, alternatively a "Dark Arrowette" costume consisting of a dark red and purple suit with a hood.
Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl)
Age: 15.
Powers: Super strength, speed, durability, and flight.
Background: Daughter of an archaeologist who is an associate of Wonder Woman. Eager to join Diana in heroics and seizes an opportunity to request super powers from Zeus, who grants them on the condition that her mother can deactivate them whenever she chooses. Enthusiastic and reckless but is also struggling with self-confidence in living up her predecessors' legacy. Joined Young Justice initially because of her crush on Superboy but comes to discover her talent for leadership and eventually takes over as team leader.
Distinguishing features/costume: Short blonde hair that gets longer over the series, blue eyes, heart-shaped face, physically matures over time. Goes through several costumes. Initially wears a dark wig and googles and mismatched clothing from her closet. Later versions vary but usually include a black shirt, red pants, bracelets, and a bar necklace engraved with "girl."
Anita Fite (Empress)
Age: 16.
Powers: Vodoun, usually used for teleportation; martial arts and use of an emperor's stick; and mind control through verbal commands due to having a piece of the Anti-Life Equation in her.
Background: Daughter of a government agent (who has been pursuing the escaped Secret) and a woman whose mother was a vodoun priestess. Has had her powers most of her life but is inspired to use them for heroics after witnessing Cissie stopping a thief in a mall. Joins Young Justice after Cissie leaves. Seeks revenge on her maternal grandfather after he kills both her parents, and gets her parents back...as infants whom she now must raise.
Distinguishing features/costume: African-American, long dark reddish hair, purple eyes, tall. Gold and purple suit and mask that conceal everything except her ponytail.
Slo-bo
Age: Physically a teenager, chronologically very young--comes into existence late in the series.
Powers: Has the Czarnian physiology of his original, which provides super strength, durability, stamina, and healing, but these are limited since he came from "the shallow end of the gene pool." Also a skilled mechanic and pilot.
Background: Clone of a deaged version of alien bounty hunter Lobo that comes into existence after Li'l Lobo's death on Apokolips. Is smaller and weaker than his original and considers himself an inadequate successor. Presents himself as extremely morally gray but is actually quite sensitive, emotionally mature (compared to the rest of YJ), and ultimately self-sacrificial.
Distinguishing features/costume: Spiky black hair, yellow iris-less eyes that go completely black when he goes blind, black markings around eyes, gray skin, smaller and skinnier than Li'l Lobo. Gray shirt, black vest, jeans with skull belt buckle.
Ray Terrill (The Ray)
Age: 19.
Powers: Light control, including emanating light, blasting rays/energy, flight, conversion to light energy, movement at light speed, creation of constructs and illusions, healing, and invisibility.
Background: Raised to believe he had a deathly allergy to sunlight and must remain in the dark but learned after the death of the man who raised him that he is really the son of the Golden Age hero the Ray and has inherited his light-based powers. Struggles with adjustment to using his powers and trying to live a mostly normal life and has a difficult relationship with his lying, manipulative father. Joined the Justice League for a while. Dragged into joining Young Justice late in the series to replace recently-lost members.
Distinguishing features/costume: Red hair, green eyes, average build and height, earring. White and gold suit (a light construct), black and gold band leader-style jacket, and gold helmet with fin.
Grant Emerson (Damage) [not actually a member of YJ but has worked with them, has connections to some individual members, and is around the same age]
Age: 16.
Powers: Building up biochemical energy in his body that results in super strength, durability, and speed, greater mass, and blasts of energy. If not discharged, this energy results in his exploding like a bomb.
Background: Son of Al Pratt (the Atom) and his wife Mary but never met them. Stolen after birth and experimented upon, which gave him DNA from numerous other superheroes. Raised by abusive foster parents. Manifested powers as a teenager but couldn't control them. Saved the universe during Zero Hour, accidentally blew up downtown Atlanta, had to join the Titans as an alternative to prison, went on a quest to discover his real parentage, joined the Titans again, and went on hiatus to concentrate on healing from his past. Used to be friends with Bart. Cannot catch a break.
Distinguishing features/costume: Brown hair with floppy bangs and sometimes a mullet, brown eyes, strong jaw, increases in muscle mass whenever his powers build up. Costume varies but consistently involves blue and orange or yellow, with a radioactive symbol on the shirt.

Short Reflection: Mob Psycho 100 Season 3
Mob Psycho 100 is one of the greatest anime of all time.
This is not up for debate. Though even if it was, I doubt many of you would disagree. Was it really only 3 years ago that the second season of this off-kilter little slice-of-life action comedy showed up and utterly blew everyone away? Only 3 years since ONE’s crudely drawn webcomic about an overpowered psychic boy just trying to live a normal life stepped out of One Punch Man’s shadow and rocketed to the top of everyone’s Best Of lists? Mob Psycho 100 is the kind of show that feels like it’s always been with us, one of those enduring staples of anime that defines everything good about this medium and remains a permanent nostalgic fixture point for new and old fans alike. From its utterly gobsmacking animation that forever raised the bar on how to portray superhuman action to its achingly human story of the things that make even the most extraordinary of us so wonderfully ordinary, this show is a triumph of empathetic storytelling and visual artistry on a level almost nothing else even comes close to. And while my opinion of the second season may have cooled slightly over time- I’m not the biggest fan of how ONE writes dialogue- it still stands as one of this medium’s crowning achievements.
So when I say that this third and final season feels like a step back, let me be clear: I am in no way saying Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 is a bad twelve episodes. Even if I were the most contrarian asshole imaginable, I couldn’t say that with a straight face. This is still Mob Psycho Goddamn 100. It’s still some of the most likable characters and some of the most spectacular animation ever put to screen. Even on its off days, this show runs circles around 90% of your average seasonal slop. But as this season wore on, knocking down the last few dominoes necessary to bring Mob’s story to a close for good, I kept waiting for the moment that would shoot this season into the stratosphere. Mob’s first fight with Teru in season 1, the astounding Mogami arc in season 2, every prior season of Mob has that one spectacular moment that kicks the story into an entirely new gear and never lets up for a second after. And as we approached the final episode, almost everything as wrapped up as it could possibly be, I realized... I was still waiting for that moment. As much as I enjoyed this last round with Mob and company, it never took off the way I know this show is capable of. It just coasted at 80% the whole way through, hitting plenty of killer pitches along the way but never pulling off a single grand slam. This is a good season of Mob, even a great season; it’s just not a spectacular one. And considering how damn high this show has raised the bar, the fact that it’s ending on such a comparatively lackluster note (again, I must stress the comparatively part of that statement) leaves me a little disappointed.
So why does one of the greatest anime of all time feel like it’s taken a step back for its victory lap? Well, after rolling it over in my head for a while, I think there are three big issues that keep season 3 from reaching MP100′s previous heights.
Reason #1: A lack of purpose
Let’s be honest, MP100 could have ended with season 2 and it would feel almost completely natural. Sure, there might be a couple loose plot ends here and there, but the actual story- Mob’s personal journey of self-acceptance and self-betterment, Reigen managing to overcome his worst impulses and treat Mob with the respect he deserves, the looming threat of Claw and the thematic challenge they pose to Mob’s humble worldview- was basically all wrapped up by the time season 2 ended. We’ve watched this bowl-haired, awkward middle schooler embrace what’s special about himself, work to overcome his flaws and become a truly well-rounded person, and defeat the literal manifestation of egotism and narcissism that stands in opposition to everything he believes about the inherent equality of people. His story is already about as complete as it could possibly be. Anything after that would just be icing on the cake. And sadly, that’s kind of how season 3 feels a lot of the time: icing. Very delicious icing, to be sure, but by now the cake’s already finished, and there’s only so much icing you can eat on its own before you start yearning for the solid food that used to be attached to it.
Which brings us neatly to:
Reason #2: Less interesting characters
This is related to reason #1: with all the important characters’ stories basically taken care of, most of season 3 is spent wrapping up the loose ends of the various remaining side characters who could still use some closure. Unfortunately, that means the focus is on the characters who, in my opinion, are among the less interesting parts of Mob Psycho as a whole. Like, I like Dimple well enough as a comic foil, but it’s been so long since he’s had any sort of serious pathos. And while I appreciate how the giant broccoli arc that takes up the season’s first half gives him a meaningful place in the narrative again, I just don’t have the built-in investment to care about him like I care about Mob, Ritsu, and Reigen. It’s a good way to close his arc, but he’s just nowhere near as compelling a character as Mob’s star players, so it doesn’t hit nearly as hard. And it’s completely blown out of the water by a two-episode wrap-up for the lazy telepathy club that Mob refused to join back at the start of the show. Now that’s what I call comedy.
Meanwhile, the final arc of the entire show brings the spotlight back around to Mob’s crush on his classmate Tsubomi, and... alright, full honesty, I was initially planning to write something here about how I really don’t care that much about Mob’s crush on Tsubomi and how it’s always been the least interesting part of this show, so spending the final arc focusing on it wasn’t my idea of a good time. But after seeing the way it actually played out? It actually works. I think ONE understands, on some level, that the actual question of whether or not they’re going to get together is far less interesting than how Mob’s feelings toward Tsubomi reflect his ongoing personal growth and struggle with his own inner turmoil. So instead of being about Mob trying to finally get the girl, this final arc uses those feelings as a lynchpin to finally make Mob confront the last hurdle on his stage to self-acceptance, all while inadvertently becoming a locus around which everyone else can bring closure to their own character arcs in turn by showing how much he’s improved their lives while he’s struggling with the last stage of his journey to improve and accept his own life. And it’s really fucking solid! Especially the final episode, my god does it bring it all home. The only issue is that this is the final goddamn arc of Mob Psycho 100, and it’s largely about the part of the show that’s always interested me the least. Even if it handles it about as well as it possibly could, there’s just no way for that not to feel underwhelming, especially compared to the astounding work of action spectacle that was season 2′s climactic showdown with Claw.
Reason #3: Weaker visuals
OKAY STOP AND LISTEN BEFORE YOU RIP MY THROAT OUT. Mob season 3 is a great-looking show. The way studio Bones brings ONE’s sketchy, janky drawing style to life is, was, and continues to be a singularly unique delight. Weaker, in this case, does not mean “bad” in any way, shape, or form. It’s just that, once again, I’m used to Mob being a spectacular-looking show, so anything less than 120% feels like a letdown. But weaker is weaker no matter how good it still is, and there’s just no getting around the fact that this is the least visually interesting season of Mob yet. Look back at any random episode from the previous two seasons, and you’ll find enough experimental animation, creative cinematography, and truly gonzo visual style in five minutes to outdo many full episodes of season 3. Far too much of the time, it relies on simple medium shots or panning shots when it’s not time for the action to break out. And even then, the action, excellent though it still is, has so few moments that match the sheer awe of the Teru fight, the Mogami fight, or either of the big Claw fights. Sadly, it seems losing Yuzuru Tachikawa, the director who pushed those first two seasons to such incredible heights, really did leave a dent in its visual identity. MP100 in the past felt like it worked to make every single moment of animation interesting and uniquely meaningful; now it only feels that way maybe 70% of the time.
And again: this is still a really good fucking season of anime. It’s still a ton of fun, the action kicks ass, and getting one last chance to bid these characters goodbye was definitely appreciated. The only reason I’m being so critical is because I know what this show is capable of. If MP100 had been at this level of quality from the beginning, it still would’ve been a high-tier shonen romp with enough heart and style to easily recommend to anyone. But I’m not used to MP100 settling for just being good. I’m used to MP100 shattering every conceivable barrier in its way as it rockets into the stratosphere. I’m used to MP100 going so far above and beyond that it redefines what’s even possible in animation. I’m used to this show being an absolute masterclass of spectacle and storytelling alike. So the fact it doesn’t get to be that one more time for its final outing turns what’s otherwise a perfectly delightful season 3 into a sorrowful reminder of glories past, weighed down by just how much better it used to be. Never before has a really good show felt so crushed under the burden of failing to rise to greatness.
But you know what? Fuck it. Just because it’s not as jaw-dropping and landmark-setting as previous seasons doesn’t mean Mob season 3 wasn’t a damn great ending to a damn great series. If nothing else, the OP drop in the final episode probably pushed my score up a full half-point all on its own. This may be a step down from what this show is capable of, but at the end of the day, there’s still more than enough heart, imagination, and sheer talent on display here to close Mob’s story out on a deeply affecting note. Mob Psycho 100 has already earned its eternal place in the anime pantheon; it’s earned the right to rest on its laurels for its farewell party. And I’m sure I’ll still be thinking fondly back on the whole beautiful journey long after the momentary disappointment fades from memory. So with all that said, I give MP100′s final season a score of:
8/10
So long, Shigeo. So long, Reigen. Here’s looking forward to whatever the future has in store.

📢Psychonauts NSR AU Observations, Chapter 1: Vinyl City📢
Alligator Tracks
Milla: I don’t know who made these tracks. But if it’s a cute animal, I will keep it. No matter what!
Sasha: These tracks come from an alligator, but not from any alligator that I know of.
Radio (Siren) Tower
Milla: Caramba! This thing is always on. All day. All night. Every hour, on the damn hour! God!
Sasha: I’ve heard that they have been installed throughout the announcements. They’re still blasting NSR Promos. Milla may hate them, but I’m indifferent.
Lost AAM Award
Milla: A special award for Activism… they should’ve been given out to this day. Thanks NSR… not!
Sasha: I’ve heard so much about AAM Awards. They’ve been given out in the 90s. I guess not anymore.
Old Flight Cases
Milla: A promoter’s old flighter case? Whatever is inside there… is locked there forever.
Sasha: ‘Property of Sonidos del Erizo’. My spanish may be a little rusty. But thanks to the internet, it literally means ‘Hedgehogs Sounds'… why is it even there?
Qwasa Transformer
Milla: Oh! A Qwasa transformer. How do they work? I have no idea… at all. But I do know that it converts music to energy.
Sasha: Qwasa transformers like this one are installed across the city to stabilize power. They are easy to be broken for parts.
“Out of Business” Sign
Milla: I’ve been to a shop with a sign like this. All I remember was the number of times I made Rube-Goldburg domino activity.
Sasha: Such a shame that signs like these are being more common. I still feel upset after my favorite drum store had that.
Music Festival Program Book
Milla: These things used to be held at Grand Festivals! It would’ve been so much fun to play with the performers who used these.
Sasha: There aren’t any opportunities as of right now. It’s all about EDM now.
Album Cover Maker
Milla: Everyone uses these to make their own album covers! I have used them, and I plan on using this in the future.
Sasha: While Milla likes them. I think that these things are useless.
Unattended Speaker
Milla: We used to have a very active baskin scene here. I bet they’re playing indoors because of NSR.
Sasha: An old friend of mine owned this. He told me he’s playing somewhere up north as of now.
Mr. Dodo Ice Pop Wrappings
Milla: Ew! Why would anyone in the world leave their trash here?
Sasha: I haven’t seen on of these ever since I left college. I may not be a fan of cold products like these, but I guess that they are popular here now.
RC Drones
Milla: This thing can be fixed easily! And it would be very cheap! But no, Sasha always tells me not pick up trash.
Sasha: Seems that DJ Cold Comet Crispin likes blasting his soundwaves so much that one of the drones fell from space.
DJ CCC-Branded Mixer
Milla: What a sellout! Bet he doesn’t even test them at all.
Sasha: It’s one of those instruments made by NSR. It’s a fact, that their instruments are made in best quality. Even my drumsticks are made by them.
DJ CCC-Branded Headphones
Milla: Another brand-name replica. What’s next? DJ CCC-Branded scarves? DJ CCC-Branded helmets? DJ CCC-Branded underwear?
Sasha: Oh look, another pair of wireless headphones. NSR’s instruments may be top notch, but that won’t be said about their consumer merch. Especially with these headphones. The bass is weak, the price is high, and the volume is a little loud. But they’re not that bad.
Glow in the Dark Puzzles
Milla: A billion pieces? Why not a thousand? It’s only three 0s less! Why would DJ CCC greenlit this?
Sasha: This seems like a perfect weekend away from performing. Downside is the number of pieces. We still haven’t finished that thousand piece puzzle.
Hobbyists Radio Equipment
Milla: Why is this thing beeping?
Sasha: Is someone using this as a joke? All what I can hear is I-C-E-C-R-E-A-M. There are many ways these things could used for, and this person used it for food.
Raz Photo Booth
Milla: Look! It’s one of those picture booths! This one let’s me pretend to be with Raz! Uh… why do I want that?
Sasha: These things are all the rage, especially in the Akusuka District. They’ve been relegated here now. I guess we have to thanks Raz for that?
Old Raz Concert Poster
Milla: It’s an old poster of Raz! I think it’s a bit… cute.
Sasha: It’s an old poster of Raz, it’s covering an older band… can’t make much of what that older poster says now…
Old Promo Poster
Milla: “Kabbage Boy Weekend - The Performace of the Century!” …Yeah, I hope we don’t end up like them. Their last show ended up with only 1 paying customer. Only one!
Sasha: A band like this one used to perform all over Vinyl City until NSR arrived. There seems to be not that much room for diversity anymore…
Raz Snacks
Milla: I remember the day that this store bought the tiny factory that made these snacks. The couple who owned this store were really happy, but I still miss those old Calavera Café Chips.
Sasha: Raz-brand Snacks? Does… Does Raz even eat these, despite the fact that he is digital?
Old Game Cover
Milla: So this is where Raz originated from! I can’t believe that he was a minor character that NSR decided to ascended him from extra!
Sasha: NSR didn’t start promoting digital idols in Vinyl City, not so long ago. This game almost feels like a relic.
Grove of the Master Musicians
Milla: This statue looks like a huge hand made out of trees! If I ever need a third hand… that idea wouldn’t crop up that much.
Sasha: It’s a replica of the Grove! I didn’t expect to see one as of right now. They were quite popular when the Grove of the Master Musicians was still giving out awards…
Really Old Mangroove Tree
Milla: It’s a carving of the Elder Mangroove. Legends say that it used to hold up the entire outer rim, shame I could never see it in person. That is all of the source it has.
Sasha: The woodwork is amazing. I want to see one in real person. They say that a Mangroove’s rootwork would dance to the rhythm of drum circles every night.
Master of the Keyboard
Milla: “In honor of Master Tia of the Heart, whose notes have unlocked the souls of thousands.” Sounds like she hated this award…
Sasha: Master Tia? I’ve heard of her once. Mein Gott, I still remember how fast her fingers were when she played that piano.
Autograph Plates
Milla: Meu Deus! It’s an authentic 1010 Autograph Plate! They are 100 percent filled with authenticity! I mean, which I know despite that I’m uninterested with them. But it would be nice to have one… or all of them.
Sasha: Must not let Milla see these things… I’m sure she has a thing for 1010, but she won’t admit it.
(Former) Street Siren
Milla: The power on that thing is not even stable in the inner cities! But here they’re wasting it on promotional bots like these!
Sasha: God, I feel bad for these things. NSR won’t update them, but they are recycled into promo-bots… these things don’t even have updates!
Letters Home
Milla: I know it’s bad reading one out loud. But, can robots get married? Who’s this… “Riese Afferoboter”?
Sasha: This can not look good. These look like letters home by a Type-04! They were given background memories to enhance their battlefield efficiency. What do they think this is? It’s not art!
Walks of Fame
Milla: Wow… this look so cool! The more time went on, the more hotter they look! I mean human! The more time went on, the more HUMAN they look!
Sasha: It’s just the same. They look even more in uniform when they’re lined up like that! They all look the same, despite the appearances…
1010 Battleship Limo
Milla: Are they selling a 1010 Limo? Must, have, IT!
Sasha: I’m sorry, but this is so pricey! I bet that the amount it’s worth is equal to the number of people in an audience.
Parabolic Microphone
Milla: Ooh! Old spy gadgets! I wonder if it works? I can’t believe someone like their manager would be ok to have this in public?
Sasha: Huh, a Parabolic Microphone? Man… I’ve been into Spy Movies since college. I want to test it out so bad!
Large Piping
Milla: When I was a kid, I had no idea what they were installed for, now that I’m an adult… I still have no idea.
Sasha: These drainage pipes remove water from underneath, most of them are hidden well.
Street Water-Drainer
Milla: This robot really loves to do it’s job! Of course, it’s possible of the fact that it keeps playing 1010 music.
Sasha: Vinyl City had some major flooding problems, and these things? Well… they can’t keep up with the problems at all. It’s honestly sad that they’re kept here in the streets blasting 1010.
Bejeweled Eye Fountain
Milla: I never knew that all of the city’s water pumps were designed to be artsy-fartsy like this! It's… it’s actually nice.
Sasha: The reason on it’s nonsymmetrical design was because of Lucky’s identity… it might’ve been worth lots of money for it to be built.
Field of Mannequin Hands
Milla: Is the symbolism involve Lucky being grabby? Empty? Poor? Spoiled? Crazy? Hungry? Casino?
Sasha: This artwork was a symbol of Lucky’s lowest point in her life. A point where she felt helpless no matter what. Does she still feel helpless even today?
Doll-Eye Totem
Milla: I feel… I feel creeped out. Can we go now?
Sasha: Lucky told me that she made this in order to repay the stares she had got. Which, possibly explain the many many eyes…
Rabbit’s Foot
Milla: Oh no… it’s happening! I knew I shouldn’t have read Alice in Wonderland while eating a tup of matcha-flavored ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, strawberry syrup, whipped cream and bananas! Oh wait… it’s just a piece of art. Oops.
Sasha: I gave her a rabbit’s foot before our first live performance. She’s still angry about it, I guess.
Corn of Ear
Milla: Uh… eww! I may not like peppers, but this is just grosser! And it’s not even themed after peppers!
Sasha: The artwork was made to represent the pain and suffering Lucky had from listening to haters. It also smells like cauliflower. As in a way of saying that hearing comments of haters would figuratively lead to someone having Cauliflower ear. People can be so cruel.
Bejeweled Hand Clock
Milla: So what do gemstones, hands, and a clock have in common? This. This artwork.
Sasha: The design of this was to symbolize both people watching Lucky and how she became less bothered by people as time moved on. Gives both meanings of 'watch’ a good name.
Field of Selfie Sticks
Milla: Ooh Phones! I… I’m guess this is to symbolize… no wait, it means… the answer is that I am really not into understanding art.
Sasha: Lucky was perceived herself, but she wondered how the world perceives itself. So, this artwork is possibly the reason on why this was made.

Nono, you’re right about glasses Geno, but what does he teach?
My pitch would be Soviet art history, his phd is specifically in the soviet sculptural tradition and it’s a long running joke amongst his students that his apartment is probably full of weird-ass replicas and plaster casts of them.
Ahahahaha you must not have seen that old post i found last night - art was apparently geno's least favorite subject. He used to ask his mom to do his painting homework for him, poor boy. (go watch the gifs its cute, a decade ago but he smiles at getting away with cheating in the exact same way he did when he made the cartoon joke this season)
No, if this is gonna be my silly little fantasy where geno is still in pittsburgh but as some adorable bashful professor and more accessible than a famous hockey player, he's gotta be in a field more accessible. I was never cool enough for the art department, there was a reason i was an artist/computer scientist doing computer science research instead of art research.
Ridiculous fantasy under the cut cause this month has been horrible and who doesnt need escapism :P
Lets put him in the math department, he's good at poker right? Or literature. One of those nerds who likes logic puzzles, like for fun. The kind that enjoys supposing something is fact, and then following the logic train of how the world's dominos would change if this one (wrong) thing is actually true. That'd stick math professor geno's office somewhere in baker hall, which is warm (like 90 degrees ALL YEAR), and strangely soft (well worn), but somewhat industrial (carnegie built all these buildings with the steel industry in mind), he'd fit right in.
Also it's shared with the chemistry department, and the chemical engineering students installed a soda machine in the hallway of basement B. And its famous because it's the cheapest place for caffeine on campus (being run by students they sold the cans close to at cost) and connected to like four other buildings by indoor bridges so you can get your soda fix even during the winter. Before a doctor told me i had to quit caffeine or else have a stroke, i was frequently walking over to buy cherry cola, like a cigarette break only more sugary.
So we have to have a meet cute in this little fantasy and what better vehicle than chitchat over a soda machine. Geno's supposedly shy, right? So i imagine professor geno is even worse, like professors dont talk to media unless they actively want to go viral and become famous and geno strikes me as the type who'd instead be quietly brilliant. Anyway, im shy too, so obviously it's gonna take at least two years of accidental run-ins before there's even a conversation. Like the first year i'd probably learn the hot mystery professor's schedule and time my soda machine visits to coincide with his. The second year i'd probably find out his name from a friend of a friend of a friend who took his class back in undergrad. By the third year we might exchange four whole sentences and it'd be the highlight of my life.
Speaking of classes, geno's gotta be that professor with tons of quirks. Costumes every halloween, a teaching style that is very serious but somehow the funniest in the department, everybody has nicknames from him, all the women in his classes are in love with him and give him other nicknames and tease each other about him behind his back. His office hours are always full, which he's a little bit sad about because if nobody shows up he has an excuse to play video games on his computer for a few hours. He's always stopped in the hallways because everybody recognizes him - current and old students alike - and wants to chat or ask questions related to life or homework. You can hear his voice coming from a mile away, so he's easy to find and socialize with. By the same token when he's in a bad mood, everybody knows it.
Professor geno would also be unfailingly kind - the one who remembers what its like to be perpetually exhausted, hungry, and broke as a student, so he sometimes orders pizza and has it sent to the whiteboard study areas in wean.
I dont think math professor geno would live in an apartment, that's a little boring. He'd probably live with his good buddy who's a famous hockey player and understands that adjunct professors get paid shit until you get your phd and then, god willing, tenure, so doesn't charge him any rent. This version of sid doesnt live in excluseive rich people town but instead has one of those stately mansions in shadyside. And its a college town so sometimes when they go out people recognize geno from class more often than they recognize sid and sid secretly thrives off this.
At some point after maybe four years of soda machine conversation, i'd get up the courage to ask professor geno if i could draw his portrait. Maybe he'd also help me come up with ideas for new animals and creatures to sculpt for my research gallery.
Lmao look what you did anon, you got me writing self insert fic for the first time in over a decade 🤣

Nine-year-old Isis Hinkson is about to become probably the most famous Barbadian schoolgirl in the world. The Class 2 Sharon Primary student is the featured personality in a short film, Run This Town, released by Rihanna and Apple Music ahead of the Barbadian superstar’s performance at the Super Bowl LVII Halftime show on Sunday night. Sitting in her Bairds Village, St George home on Friday evening, Hinkson told Barbados TODAY she was pleased to have been chosen to be included in the video which has gone viral. “I love Rihanna. I like everything about her – her music, how she dresses and how she looks. I want to be just like Rihanna – a billionaire, rich and look good. I believe that one day I am going to be a superstar,” the softspoken child said. Hinkson has already left an impression on the Barbadian public with her performance in the 90-second promo which was produced by local production company Parachute Film Studios Ltd and stands to give Barbados massive exposure. Hinkson, dressed in the uniform of Charles F Broome Primary School which Rihanna attended, is shown walking along Rihanna Drive, the singer’s childhood home. The video includes footage of Barbadians playing dominoes, children riding bicycles as well as children flying kites in the nearby Westbury Cemetery, just as Rihanna did in her younger years. The scenes were an ode to the national hero’s childhood and her big dreams. Many were impressed with Hinkson’s confidence and bold display. Admitting that two consecutive days of shooting the video was no easy task, the little girl described her experience as one she will never forget. “We had to do certain parts over and over. In my mind I was like, ‘is Rihanna going to see this? Is Rihanna watching it now? Is Rihanna going to see me?’ I would tell her ‘I am the girl in your video. I am your biggest fan’,” she said, adding that at the age of five, she told her mother she “wanted to be just like Rihanna”. Hinkson recalled how excited she was when the video came out. Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank are on the verge of collapse. The combined asset base of the two banks is nearly $2 Trillion which is 3x the asset base of Lehman Brothers at the time of its collapse. On 15 September 2008, Lehman Brothers, a bank considered 'too big to fail' filed for insolvency. It was the single largest bankruptcy filing in the history of the US. At the time, the bank had $639 billion in assets and $619 billion in debt. Both Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank are designated as systemically important financial institutions (SIFI): i.e. they are "too big to fail". Remember the times when they labeled Lehman Brothers as "TBTF"? The stocks of Deutsche and Credit Suisse have been slowly bleeding out since 2009 and both are down ~90% from 2009 high. The credit default swaps (CDS) for Credit Suisse are going absolutely vertical and are now approaching the highs of the great financial crisis of 2008. Higher CDS = Stronger market-wide belief that CS is going to fail. CDS is a derivative that allows an investor to swap or offset their credit risk with that of another investor. To swap the risk of default, the lender buys a CDS from another investor who agrees to reimburse them if the borrower defaults. What does this crisis mean in layman's terms? 1. If the banks can't pay off their debts i.e. they become insolvent and have to sell off their assets. 2. If the prices of these assets fall below a certain level, the other banks too will have to start selling to avoid the forcefull margin calls on their positions. 3. This massive deleveraging event will create a domino effect due to mass selling and this economic crisis will spread from one market/region to another, known as Contagion. No one really knows when the system will start collapsing. But when it does, it will be extremely brutal. It's a ticking time bomb. FYI this thread is based on my limited knowledge of 20 years studying the financial markets, and I reserve the right to be wrong. Take care and stay safe! ♥️ #recession #retirement #stocks #realstate #crypto #moneymindset #finance101 #fyp https://www.instagram.com/p/CjPUq9wuhxl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
