thoughts on...Feminine Female characters adapted in media and the awesomeness of Buffy.
So today i wanted to express my opinion on something that bother me a lot which is...The character assasination of female characters in media that are both strong and Feminine.
Usually when a female character is strong- and By strong I mean Not only physically , but in personality too- It tend to be...Well masculine or tomboyish if you want, as if a female character that is feminine wasn't allowed to have her own voice.
It is very weird to find a female character that is :
1- Feminine 2- Strong (see my definition of It) be 3- Social / flirty/ popular... That isn't blamed or slut shamed for It.
Examples of characters assassinations in media there are plenty, but the two that i can think of right now are Lucy Westenra and Camila Dunne.
Lucy Westenra was an amazing, cute popular girl, that was slut-shamed for her niceness and for...being literally assaulted by Dracula!!! Seriously?? It is very well explained by https://www.tumblr.com/paris-in-space in a post about Lucy Westenra and character assasination in media.
The other, far less extreme but still Bad, is... Camila Dunne. While she was cool in the series, in fact she was one of my faves, in the book she was just something else : Sure of herself, Sure of Billy (even after the multiple cheatings with groupies and the Daisy situation)...Fuck, she's even nice with Daisy! She gave her the dignity of having the choice to go away before It was too late...And in the show all that we got was those generic "Woe you both suck!!!" (Very deserved, but still dissapointing) and "What does she has that i don't " , that made me literally cringe...Sigh.
And that's why i'm so thankfull for Buffy, one of my fave females in media, she's feminine, strong and social, and she's celebrated!!
