Beiranvand Sparks Iran to Victory
The second round had just begun for Iran. In fact, it had only been barely a minute and disaster struck as a defensive breakdown led to a penalty for Oman.
An early lead for Oman would have really been tough on Iran, knowing that it heavily relies on game script.
Ahmed Kano of Oman stepped up with no hesitation but saw his spot kick saved by a diving Alireza Beiranvand.
Kano felt confident taking the kick, but we all know he probably had that image in his head of Beiranvand stopping Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty at the 2018 World Cup.
What is even more interesting in my opinion is that Sardar Azmoun was seen signaling to Beiranvand where Kano would shoot.
But no matter what people will speculate about, the fact is that Alireza Beiranvand continues to show why he is one of the best keepers ever to suit for Team Melli, the national team of Iran.
I had a good feeling that Iran would snap out of it after Beiranvand saved the penalty and it was great to see Alireza Jahanbakhsh take advantage of a defensive blunder to put Iran in the lead.
Later in the first half it was Ashkan Dejagah who gave Iran an insurance goal when he converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
Iran moves on to the Asian Cup quarterfinals to face China on 24 January in Abu Dhabi.

China is coming off a 2-1 win over Thailand and I will be quick to say that this will be another tough match for Iran.
But the truth is that Iran is the better team and must prevail over China.
The pressure will be on Iran, but it makes sense because Iran is one of the favorites to win the 2019 Asian Cup.
Despite Iran’s win over Oman, there were times when the Iranians looked shaky on defense.
Adjustments need to be made, but not with Iran’s confidence.
Iran and China are familiar with one another after having met two times during the final round of 2018 World Cup qualification.
The first leg in China ended scoreless and the return leg in Tehran finished in a 1-0 win for Iran.
China’s defense has improved under Italian manager Marcello Lippi, but the Iranians know they must take advantage of their opportunities to come out on top.
Prediction: Iran 2-0 China

Perdebatan Tentang Penalti
Piala Dunia 2014 Brasil. Gelandang Ashkan Dejagah yang sedang membawa bola ke kotak penalti Argentina mendapat terjangan keras dari kaki bek Pablo Zabaleta sampai terjatuh. Kedua kaki Dejagah disapu dari samping yang membuat keseimbangannya hilang. Tapi anehnya wasit asal Serbia Milorad Mazic tidak menganggap itu sebagai pelanggaran sehingga tim Iran tidak diganjar hadiah tendangan penalti. Sontak keputusan tersebut membuat Dejagah marah kepada wasit yang bahkan tidak mengeluarkan kartu untuk Zabaleta. “Itu jelas sebuah penalti dan kartu merah. Tak ada alasan lain. Tak ada yang bisa menjelaskan kenapa wasit Serbia itu tak memberi penalti. Bagaimana caranya dia bisa tidur nyenyak setelah ini? Dengan segala hormat saya ingin sekali bicara empat mata dengannya dan mempertanyakan keputusannya,” ujar pelatih Iran Carlos Quieroz. Peristiwa itu memercik perdebatan sengit. Media Iran berbondong-bondong mengkritik kepemimpinan Mazic yang dianggap telah “merampok” tim mereka secara tak adil. Tapi ada pula beberapa media internasional yang menyebut bahwa tackle Zabaleta sebenarnya bersih karena kakinya sedikit menyentuh bola sebelum melanggar Dejagah. Penalti atau tidak yang jelas di pertandingan itu Iran harus takluk dari Argentina dengan skor tipis 0-1.

Trước đó, sau khi vòng bảng Asian Cup 2019 khép lại ngày 17/1, Liên đoàn bóng đá châu Á (AFC) đã đưa ra 10 đề cử giải thưởng Cầu thủ xuất sắc nhất vòng bảng để cổ động viên bình chọn gồm: Salem Al Dawsari (Ả Rập Xê Út), Almoez Ali (Qatar), Ashkan Dejagah (Iran), Yasen Bakheet (Jordan), Nguyễn Quang Hải (Việt Nam), Kim Min-jae (Hàn Quốc), Mohanad Ali (Iraq), Awer Mabil (Australia), Yuto Nagatomo (Nhật Bản), Eldor Shomurodov (Uzbekistan).
Theo kết quả cuộc bình chọn vừa kết thúc cách đây vài giờ, tiền vệ Nguyễn Quang Hải của đội tuyển Việt Nam đã giành chiến thắng giải Cầu thủ xuất sắc nhất vòng bảng Asian Cup 2019 một cách đầy thuyết phục.
Sau 4 ngày mở bình chọn, theo tin tức xã hội tiền vệ CLB Hà Nội đã nhận được tổng cộng 604.167 lượt bình chọn và chiếm 50% số lượt bình chọn. Kết quả này giúp Nguyễn Quang Hải bỏ xa người về thứ hai là thủ quân đội tuyển Iran, Ashkan Dejagah, với tổng cộng 462.278 lượt bình chọn.

Dominant Victory for Iran
The match was never in doubt and Mehdi Taremi was man of the match as Iran dominated Yemen in a 5-0 victory.
Taremi had two goals and an assist and Iran led 3-0 after twenty-five minutes of play in Abu Dhabi.
A shot from Sardar Azmoun outside the penalty area was parried by Yemeni keeper Al-Sowadi and Taremi pounced on the rebound to slot the ball home.
Eleven minutes later Ashkan Dejagah’s free kick hit the post and the ball went off the back of Al-Sowadi and into the net to double the lead for Iran.
The goal was not credited to Dejagah and instead was credited as an own-goal.
I obviously do not agree with the scoring decision. Come on man! Give the goal to Ashkan, it was a nice free-kick and I am pretty sure I have seen similar goals in the past that were not ruled as own-goals.
Oh well, moving on now.
Taremi’s second goal will be watched over and over by Iranian football fans because it was an awesome header off a long cross from right-back Ramin Rezaeian.

In the second half it was great to see Azmoun and Ghoddos get on the scoresheet to complete the 5-0 victory for Team Melli, the national team of Iran.
It was great to see Taremi have a good game and recently I said more pressure should be on the shoulders of Taremi because of his finishing skills we saw the World Cup in Russia.
I am not going out of my way to be harsh on Taremi because I love the guy. He is a great player and his effort today was excellent.
But let’s face it: Yemen is nothing special and we want to see Mehdi Taremi continue to be an awesome finisher against bigger teams in bigger games.
Next up for Iran is a match against Vietnam on 12 January at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi and online bookmaker 10Bet has the latest odds available.
Iran is favored with 1/15 odds while Vietnam has a tough task with 21/1 odds.
Vietnam has the youngest roster out of all Asian Cup teams, but I do expect Vietnam to be a better opposition than Yemen.
Prediction: Iran 3-0 Vietnam

Now that squads have been announced, we can look more closely into the hotness of the individual teams. I mean, that’s what we’re here for, right? For each team, I’ll talk a bit about the squad, then highlight ten hotties.

This is the first time Iran have qualified for two World Cups in a row, and Iran look stronger this go ‘round. They’ve added some pacey wingers and an in-form striker to their well-organized defense.
