2023 TinCaps schedule released

The Fort Wayne TinCaps have announced their schedule for the 2023 season.

George Kenneth Griffey Sr. (born April 10, 1950) is a former baseball outfielder. He played in MLB (1973-1991) most notably as a member of the Cincinnati Reds dynasty that won three division titles and two World Series championships between 1973 and 1976. He played for the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and Seattle Mariners.

A three-time All-Star, he hit over .300 five times in his role as the table-setter for the powerful Cincinnati batting order that was known as the Big Red Machine for their dominance of the National League in the mid-1970s. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.

He was raised by a single mother of six; his father Buddy left the family when he was two years old. He considered football to be his best sport, followed by basketball, track, and then baseball.

The Griffeys (Ken Sr. and Ken Jr.) became the first father-and-son tandem to play on the same Major League Baseball team at the same time. They played their first game together for the Seattle Mariners on August 31, 1990. On September 14, 1990, father and son hit back-to-back home runs in a game against the California Angels; this is the only time in major league history that this has happened.

He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2010, he was hired as the batting coach for the Dayton Dragons, the Reds’ Single A minor league affiliate. In 2011, he was named Manager of the Bakersfield Blaze, the Reds Single A affiliate of the California League. He will remain in the organization as a roving instructor, focusing on hitting and bunting. His grandson Trey Griffey went undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft and spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is married to Valarie Griffey. He is the father of Hall of Fame outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. and former minor league player Craig Griffey. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Had so much fun at the Dayton Dragons game last night!!! :D First time I've ever been and they're the High A minor league baseball team for the Cincinatti Reds. They won too and I love their dragon mascots Heater and Gem and the dragon themes, and they even have a cyclops named Wink. I've put pics up on my Instagram and for sure want to go back.

Volleying for experience

It was another great week for some volleyball at Wright State University. The competition between Wright State and Northern Kentucky was a battle back and forth right until the end. Northern Kentucky took the first two sets. Then Wright State came back and took the following two sets. They went into a tie-breaker set, where Northern Kentucky ended up victorious.

I was overseeing the scoreboard and ensuring everything was going well on that end. It was amazing to see the two teams and the adversity that the athletes had shown. At one point in the game, a player from Northern Kentucky had cut her hand, which forced a timeout. She ended up being okay and, there is still no telling how her hand had gotten cut. The same player later in the game had tweaked her knee and had to have the physical trainer help stretch her out on the sidelines before returning.

The adversity she showed reminded me of how going to school as an adult can sometimes be. Sometimes, trying to balance it all can be a challenge. It is not always easy to balance life with work and school. However, with the right amount of adversity and organization, anything is possible. The last few weeks volunteering at Wright State have been amazing. I am so thankful to the athletics department for allowing me to have this opportunity. On a separate note, I am looking forward to the next baseball season. I am hoping to land an internship with the Dayton Dragons. The opportunity with the dragons would show me everything from the front-of-the-house business to the duties dealing with fans and players. Thank you to anyone who took time to read this weeks blog on my volunteering opportunity. Remember to go out there and be bright spot in someone's life today.
