Bodegas Marqués de Riscal, Spain
Marqués de Riscal (whose full trading name is Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, S.A.) is a Spanish business group dedicated to the wine industry. It has its origin and headquarters in the town of Elciego, in the Rioja Alavesa, where it began its activity in 1858, being the oldest winery in Álava.
In 2006 the wineries of Elciego were transformed into the City of Wine, a complex that includes the primary wineries, the most modern, the vineyards and a leisure complex in which the Hotel Marqués de Riscal is framed, an emblematic building designed by the architect Frank Gehry and inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I.
Since its origin in the nineteenth century, Marqués de Riscal has produced Rioja wine, but in 1972 it also settled in Rueda (Valladolid) to produce white wine that in 1980 would receive the denomination of origin of Rueda wine.
The company's wine production sits on a vast expanse of vineyards owned by the company and others on a rental basis. Marqués de Riscal owns in the Rioja area 1500 ha of vineyards in Elciego, Leza, Laguardia and Villabuena de Álava, of which 500 ha are owned and 985 controlled. In the area of Rueda, it has the largest vineyard owned in the entire D.O., with 205 ha in the municipality of Rueda. It also has 250 ha more for rent in Rueda, La Seca, Serrada and Rodilana. In addition, it has 200 ha in the Zamorano municipalities of Toro and San Román de Hornija, from which it produces reds from the land of Castilla y León.

CATA DE VINOS BLANCOS FERMENTADOS EN BARRICA.
El domingo 2 de febrero de 2020, en los salones del club gastronómico Km 0, sitos en el Palacio de Salinas de Málaga, nuestra socia y tesorera de la Asociación Malagueña de Enología y Cata (AMEC), Consuelo Martín Lalanda, nos presento una cata de vinos blancos fermentados en barrica. Para empezar nos dio unas nociones sobre el proceso de elaboración de los vinos blancos fermentados en barrica, la importancia de la presencia de las lías en su elaboración, y sus propiedades, así como las principales diferencias que presenta estos caldos frente a los blancos de fermentación estándar.
A continuación catamos tres vinos .
Orube Fermentado en Barrica 2018, de Bodegas Orube, Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja, elaborado a base de las variedades, Viura, Chardonnay y Tempanillo, con una graduación alcohólica de 12.5 % Vol.
Martinez Lacuesta Fermentado en Barrica 2018, de Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta SA, también de la Denominacion de Origen Calificada Rioja, elaborada con 100 % de uva Viura, grado alcohólico 12.5 % Vol.
Protos Fermentado en Barrica 2017, elaborado en la Denominación de Origen Rueda, por Bodegas Protos, con 100 % uva Verdejo. Grado alcohólico 13 % Vol.
Como viene siendo normal en las catas de la Asociación, terminamos compartiendo un almuerzo-aperitivo preparado por los socios con sus platos mas seleccionados.
