Collins and Streiss – Free Genre : Rock/Singer-Songwriter Duo Collins and Streiss are a duo from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Having met and occasionally played together in high school, the two lost touch for many years only to be reunited in the summer of 2012. After an afternoon of catching up, some drinks and some jamming, the two would form what is now the duo Collins and Streiss. Collins and Streiss - Freedom’s Captive

Collins and Streiss is a music project with a unique approach to their blend of indie music. Their sound captures the intensity of rock with the unique feel of alternative music, making for a larger-than-life feel. Recently, the group set out to release a new single titled “Freedom’s Captive.” The song has a really engaging guitar line, which cuts through the mix at the beginning, making me think of artists such as Oasis, and REM, just to mention a few. The vocals have a very earnest attitude, with a focus on inspiring and personal lyrics that really connect with the audience. The rhythm of the song is quite upbeat, but also mellow enough to really enhance the atmosphere and allowing all the melodies to truly bloom. The single has a lush, vintage-inspired tone to it, which really reminds me of the warmth of a 60s records, but with today’s higher definition. In fact, “Freedom’s Captive” has a modern and polished production, which really allows the mix to stand out for its clarity and depth. The low end is really fat and punchy, while the mid-range is warm, but never harsh. In addition to that, the top end has a nice, silky tone that really contributes to a smooth sounding mix that puts the vocals at the forefront. The song has multiple layers that really add life and character to it. The melodies are really well-arranged, blooming seamlessly around the rhythm and allowing the vocals to pop out at the forefront to the mix. On “Freedom’s Captive,” songwriting comes from a very personal place and feels quite expressive, but at the same time, it is also very catchy and easy to relate to. There are not many artists on the music scene who are seamlessly able to combine integrity and appeal so successfully, but it definitely feels like an easy task for Collins and Streiss.

Collins and Streiss’ work could be compared to the sound of artists the likes of R.E.M., Wilco and Neil Young, but they certainly have a character of their own, as opposed to simply trying to copy other influences along the way.

We put our Ugly Melon twist to it and made the song a more Modern ballad anthem. The feeling of being alone and rejected but you are really a rainbow in the dark. When doing such an epic song like this that was a huge hit for Dio, you've got to make sure you don't butcher the song. Our new album 'Just a Man' is a piece of work we are proud of and love hearing it every time.

When asked to describe his new release in a few words, David Bucci said, "Dirty boots, blue-collar, indie alternative rock music. Dangerous, off the new album, Country Club." 'Dangerous' has a heavy acoustic guitar and drum-driven influence with electric guitar layers and soling over it along with my lead vocals and backup harmonies by Robert Cross. The message behind ‘Dangerous’ is a sort of realistic caution about life, that we can be derailed very easily and things can spiral quickly. We need to take care of ourselves and don’t put ourselves in bad positions and places.

An accomplished veteran of the East Coast and Midwest music scene, Dave Molter counts the Beatles as his primary Influence. His latest single "Tell Me That You Love Me" is a tribute to the Fab Four and the British Invasion era, when getting the attention of someone you loved was the moving force for young people. It has Beatlesque harmonies and tone as well as the 12-string jangle of the Beatles, Byrds, Holliea, and Searchers. It's a happy song! "Tell Me That You Love Me is one of five songs on my debut EP, "Foolish Heart." Right now I'm excited to continue working on a full CD, which we hope will be available in early 2020.

We are using our regular drummer (Davide DiRenzo) and have brought back our bassist (David Dawe) from one of our earliest tracks "Saturday Night" that he played on, and have a new member in our working group (Rob Vendrasco) playing lead guitar.

The song is upbeat, edgy and energetic and full of catchy melodies and hooks which is common in our music. It's derivative of our rock roots which has a broad range of artists and rich heritage.

Why is music important to you?

Music and creation are an important outlet for us. We try to observe and put into words and music what we see and experience in our lives on a natural and human level whether it's about love and relationships, political, world issues or even imaginary. Each song takes on its own shape and evolves on its own, from lyrics to arrangement, and is creating a repertoire that is becoming more diverse as we move forward.

We do have a lyric video for this song but have no plans for a full visual video. We hope that people will listen to music and not be distracted by the visual. There are no plans to tour at the moment. There is new material in the works, also a small 2 song EP which contains 2 songs (previously unreleased) from projects that we did together before we became Collins & Streiss.

The music we are creating is...

'Make A Meal' is a very special song to me. I wrote the lyrics over two years, during which my perspective on relationships changed dramatically. I wasn't able to complete the final verse of the song until I'd worked through some really big issues and learned some big lessons about how humans behave with respect to relationships and lust.

I do this because...

making music is like breathing to me. There is not one day that goes by where I'm not singing or writing - it fulfills me, and gives me something to be proud of. When I perform I get to choose the best parts of me, my talent, and define them, and then share them with the audience. That's a rare privilege that performers get - the opportunity to choose how other people see them. When I perform Umbra Anima, and the rest of my catalog, I get to tell a story, I get to say something about what I've learned. Making music that will live on after I'm gone is an incredible gift!

Nice two-step beat, followed by a hauntingly beautiful vocal pattern. It's about waiting for the right person to come along, and all of the struggles, and heartache that comes before it. It's an important song to us because it shows how diverse we can be, while keeping up the ever-changing landscape of music today. The impact this song can have on you is to show, that a song can be uppity, powerful, sad, and relieving all in one. Like telling a story with music and the perfect lyrics over it.

We do this because…

it's what we love to do. Most of us have been doing this for most of our lives. What we love about performing, is just being able to entertain the people in front of us. Whether it's 5 people or 500, we always give 100%. The thrill of just knowing that we're sharing our music/art with other people is truly a monumental accomplishment that we're extremely proud of.
