Happy birthday to Captain Veronica Dare!
Today is her -492nd birthday!
Tumblr media
Dare was born on Actium and enlisted with the UNSC, eventually joining the Office of Naval Intelligence. During the Battle of Mombasa, Dare was given command of a squad of ODSTs for a classified mission. The squad--Alpha Nine--was lead by Edward Buck, whom she'd crossed paths with before.
Dare met Buck while on shore leave seven years prior, and the two shared a brief affair. Buck had hopes that their relationship could develop into something more serious, but those hopes were dashed when he learned that she was affiliated with ONI, leading to concerns about his ability to trust her due to ONI's reputation as underhanded and manipulating. Thus, they parted ways, and they did not see one another again until a mission on Belisk six years later, and then at the Battle for Earth a year after that.
Dare did not reveal her mission to Alpha-Nine before she took control of the squad: they believed they were supposed to infiltrate and destroy the Covenant carrier Solemn Penance. During the drop, she ordered Alpha-Nine to divert their descent, avoiding the ship and landing in New Mombasa. Alpha-Nine was scattered after the crash, with Dare continuing her mission to the Superintendent's data center. Eventually, the squad was able to regroup, and Dare revealed her true mission: she was supposed to gather information on the portal at Voi, and discovered a Huragok named Quick to Adjust in the process. These organic artificial intelligences contained a wealth of knowledge about the Forerunners and the Covenant, which Dare quickly realized would be invaluable to the UNSC. Dare and Alpha-Nine were eventually able to escape the city with Quick to Adjust in tow.
After the war's end, Dare and Buck decided to spend shore leave together again, as they did whenever their schedules allowed, only to be interrupted by Jun-A266, a SPARTAN-III who was now in charge of Spartan recruitment. Jun asked Buck to joined the Spartans, and he initially declined. But after a mission to Draco-III against the United Rebel Front lead to the death of Jonathan Doherty, his squadmate, Alpha-Nine disbanded and Buck joined the SPARTAN program alongside Mickey and Romeo. Later, Buck would discover that Micky had defected to the URF, and he was arrested and held at a secret SPARTAN training facility.
During the Created conflict, Dare would ask Buck to re-establish Alpha-Nine to assist her in convincing an URF-controlled colony to share technology that could be used against the Guardians. To do this, she wanted Buck to enlist Micky's help. Though he was reluctant, Buck broke Mickey out of confinement and Dare and Alpha-Nine traveled to Hole in the Wall, where she was able to negotiate sharing the technology. Shortly thereafter, the colony was attacked by a Guardian. As they evacuated, Buck confessed to Dare that he regretting never marrying her. The squad was taken onto Infinity, where Dare called Buck's bluff and dared him to follow through on his desire to marry her. He agreed, and they were married moments later by Roland, the ship's AI.
After Operation: WOLFE, Fred gave Dare a message from Veta Lopis and the Ferrets, explaining that they were undercover and infiltrating the Keepers of the One Freedom. Lopis' message warned the UNSC of the return of Atriox and his plans for the Ark. It is unknown if Dare was onboard the Infinity when it was attacked by the Banished.
In canon (~2560), she is turning 45!

Lore Thursday - Type Classifications
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When analysing recovered Covenant equipment, ONI researchers assigned a Type-designation based on the year of recording. However, these entries rarely matched the Covenant's own internal classification schemes.

US Navy Sailor Receives 27-Month Jail Sentence for Sharing Military Data with China
Tumblr media
Sentencing of U.S. Navy Sailor Involved in Sharing Classified Information
A U.S. Navy sailor has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for accepting bribes amounting to nearly $15,000 from a Chinese intelligence officer. This exchange involved providing photos containing unclassified yet sensitive U.S. military data. Conviction Details Petty Officer Wenheng "Thomas" Zhao, aged 26, entered a guilty plea last October on charges of conspiracy and receiving a bribe. Despite facing a maximum prison term of 20 years, Zhao was sentenced to 27 months in jail and fined $5,500, as revealed by the U.S. Justice Department. Zhao, stationed at Naval Base Ventura County in California, confessed to transmitting plans of U.S. military exercises in the Indo-Pacific area, operational directives, and detailed diagrams and blueprints of a radar system situated on a U.S. military base in Okinawa, Japan. Authorities' Statements Larissa Knapp, the Executive Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Security Branch, expressed disdain for Zhao's actions, stating, "Zhao chose to betray the oath he took to our country and put others at risk." Knapp highlighted the significance of the sentencing, emphasizing China's intelligence services' failure to prevent the FBI and allied entities from identifying and prosecuting individuals recruited as spies by China. Tensions Between Nations The United States has repeatedly accused China of engaging in extensive espionage activities and cyberattacks. Beijing, however, consistently refutes these allegations, creating a backdrop of escalating tensions between the two countries on matters of national security and international espionage. “Between 2007 and 2021, the U.S. government authorized three distinct efforts to investigate and evaluate UFO/UAP incidents, cases, and effects - the acronyms were AAWSAP, AATIP, and the UAPTF. Only one person in the entire Defense Department had a key role in all three programs. Jay Stratton was a career intelligence officer who worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Defense Warning Office of the DIA, and in other sensitive national security programs. He specialized in the reverse engineering of technologies, threats, and future scenarios.  In 2007, he was recruited to consult with the DIA-funded investigation known as AAWSAP, the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program, a contract awarded to a private company affiliated with Bigelow Aerospace. The first case he investigated was the now-famous "Tic Tac" UFO incident.  After AAWSAP ended, Stratton worked closely with Lue Elizondo on a successor effort known as AATIP, which focused exclusively on military encounters with UFOs. After Elizondo left government, Stratton was asked to form a new program that eventually was formalized by Congress as the UAP Task Force. During those years, he created a massive, classified briefing presentation that was delivered to Pentagon officials, intelligence agencies, defense contractors, and members of Congress. Stratton left government in 2021 and is currently employed by Radiance Technologies.  The interview with WEAPONIZED is the first public statement he has ever made about his work as the government's top UFO hunter.”

Verse: SHADOW GUARD (Halo)
Yoruichi is a SPARTAN-IV. Yoruichi was an ODST. Yoruichi was a Phase 2 SPARTAN-I. Yoruichi was an ONI operative. Yoruichi was a Phase 1 SPARTAN-I. Yoruichi was on the Odyssey when it arrived at Reach. Yoruichi was born before the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine was invented.
Yoruichi is the closest thing to biologically immortal that humanity has yet created.
Yoruichi is an ONI Rear Admiral.
Timeline
"That's all well and good, Doctor, but I'm almost as old as the M319, and just like with it, you still haven't come up with something more experienced than me." —Yoruichi Shihōin to Dr. Catherine Halsey
C indicates chronological age, A indicates apparent age, but note that neither is perceptual age from Yoruichi's point of view. (She's spent a lot of time in cryosleep in addition to having a dramatically reduced aging factor.)
2271 - (C-000, A-000): Yoruichi is born to the Shihōin family, which is highly influential within the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), particularly Section Three
2286 - (C-015, A-015): Yoruichi is accepted to the Academy at Mare Nubium (Luna OCS Academy), becoming the youngest person to have ever attended the school (followed by Miranda Keyes at 16 in 2541)
2290 - (C-019, A-019): Yoruichi graduates from the Luna OCS Academy and joins ONI Section One
2291 - (C-020, A-020): Yoruichi receives her first illicit prototype longevity enhancement prior to first assignments in outer Solar System requiring cryosleep
2321 - (C-050, A-023): Yoruichi enrolls in Project KYKLOS given family connections in Section Three; the only successful test subject and survivor of the program, she is extensively studied as the basis for future research; it's established that her genetic makeup (due in part to Shihōin illicit modifications both past and present) have made her uniquely predisposed to accepting augmentation; this research is hidden from official records by the family to cover up their complicity, directly causing the long interval until the ORION Project is undertaken
2330 - (C-059, A-023): Yoruichi is released from the continuing study program for use as a "novel" ONI asset under the auspices of Section One sub-unit Chi-9 Division, which essentially consists of her and token support staff
2361 - (C-090, A-024): Yoruichi is planted within the Colonial Military Authority (CMA) to monitor the colonization efforts of the Colonial Administration Authority (CAA); she is aboard the CAA Odyssey during its maiden voyage to Reach
2437 - (C-166, A-025): Yoruichi is first contacted by The Assembly, which is aware of her existence and recognizes her as "unique" among humans; she is not aware of their true nature for some time
2490 - (C-219, A-026): Yoruichi serves as the prototype for the ORION Project of modifications as colonial rebellions spiral beyond the CMA's ability to control; this data is subsequently passed to the CMA by ONI
2497 - (C-226, A-026): Yoruichi is attached to the rising Orbital Drop Shock Troopers to provide her actions with greater cover and opacity
2548 - (C-277, A-027): Yoruichi is brought in for research related to the genesis of the SPARTAN-IV Program, Project ORCHID
2553 - (C-282, A-027): Yoruichi is fully enhanced to SPARTAN-IV specifications and is thereby inserted into Spartan Operations

Yoruichi has served through half a dozen total personnel rotations at ONI and assumed hundreds of identities over her nigh three centuries of existence. Even her own staff don't know who Chi-9 Actual really is, as her record isn't just dipped in ink, but has been refabricated a dozen times over. The only consistent thing for the last good long while has been her rank. Ironically, she serves in Spartan Operations under her birth name—if anyone happens to know some trivia about Luna OCS Academy, she claims with a smile to have been named in honor of an ancestor.

Alright ,against my better judgements, and my want to make more halo friends , here is the Prolouge for my Halo fic. Strap yourselves in , this is one heck of a fun and wild ride that I enjoy writing , and dearly hope you all enjoy reading just as much
____________

 Prologue  : The offer
How long have I been here “ Samantha Walker asked herself, staring up at the grey ceiling of her cell. Maybe it had been a few days , or weeks or even months- she wasnt entirely sure. There was plenty she wasn’t sure about those days . Was she under arrest? Was she going to be tried as a war criminal ? Was the only voice in her head hers? What was the UNSC keeping her around for?
What she did know was that the solitude and quiet of the holding facility that kept her was torture. After spending so many years with another person (even if it was just an A.I ) shoved into her head, the quiet would drive her mad.
‘ I don’t think they’d arrest you’  the familiar voice spoke ‘ you know too much, you’re a good soldier-’
“ Who turned their back on the UNSC to join what is- WAS- essentially a terrorist organization”
‘You had humanity’s best interest at heart. And when it came to it, you did join the right side.
“A little late in the game though. I wasn’t fast enough to save you”
“Samantha Walker”
A  different voice- a guards voice-  cut her conversation with the Alpha A.I off ( her imaginative one at least) As it had said, she was a good soldier. In the blink of an eye she was off the bed and standing at attention- even though the man unlocking her sell wasn’t a ranked officer.
“Let’s go “ he said, opening the door and stepping aside “ you’re being summoned”
As much as she wanted to ask  by who. She merely followed orders, keeping her questions to herself . The answers would come to her soon enough after all. She held out her wrists, expecting to, and in fact, being cuffed tightly .
‘ Not under arrest, but still treated like a criminal’
She sighed as the guard led her down a hall, towards the interrogation rooms, which she had  been in countless times since turning in the director , and his failed Project Freelancer over to the UNSC . Maybe now that all the proceedings were over, she would actually be put under arrest .
Sam was surprised to see that the  room was already occupied when the door opened.  Two people were seated opposite of where she was expected to sit. One man was in an electric wheel chair- a result of some old war injury no doubt, but wore a  military dress suit . The other was much younger. He  wore a black suit and tie, had a clean shaven head and a particular tattoo on the left side of his face: a fist  holding 3 arrows. 0
‘ONI…’ Sam knew right away , just by the way the  two seemed to carry themselves  What does the Office of Naval Intelligence want with me?
“Hello Lieutenant” the man in the wheel chair began “Please, have a seat”
“Not Lieutenant anymore,Sir”  Sam said , doing as she was told and sitting across from them . “ As far as I’m concerned ,I’ve been branded as a traitor, terrorist and war criminal”
“ If that were truly the case, You’d have been sent to a more secure facility than this”  he continued “  The UNSC doesn’t usually accommodate traitors but ONI can make a special exception  for the woman who helped put an end to Project Freelancer”
Ah. So they do have more they need to ask
“ I’m not sure what else there is to say Sir. I’ve given my reports and all classified data to  you guys already “
“You’re service record is what we are more interested in “ finally the man  with the tattoo spoke. His accent was thick, and  for  only for a moment she struggled to under stand what he had said until he spoke again- while with drawing a data pad from  from a case on the table, pulling up on the holographic screen what could only be Sam’s dossier “ ODST with the 105th division,  the first of the Freelancer Project and to experiment with A.I neuro-implants. Outstanding physical and  mental marks, comparable only to the best of the UNSC officers. “ he looked at her over the top of the pad “ perhaps even only to the Spartans”
“I’m sorry and you are?” she didn’t mean to come off as rude, but this man looked more civilian than  military, yet he was going over her back ground as if he was the highest officer with the  highest clearance in the entire damned army
“Jun, Chief of Staff of Spartan operations, and this is Commander Musa”
“Spartans…” Sam raised an eyebrow at him “ I wasn’t aware that the Spartans were still around after the war”
“We don’t die easily” he said, and suddenly Sam felt a little intimidated by him. Even though he was seated, it suddenly hit her that if they were standing, he would  certainly have the look of those legendary soldiers that  she had only ever heard about
“And what does a Spartan in a suit and tie want with me?” she asked after a second or two of silence
“As we said “ Musa replied “ ONI can make exceptions for those whom the UNSC thought were deserters  . So long as they have the proper skillset. And you, Miss Walker, have an extensive skillset.”
“We’d like to have you on board to help the Spartan IV program. If you’re ready to get out of the UNSC  and Project Freelancer”
She looked at both of the, a little too stunned to speak right away. “ So wait… you’re here to…offer me a job?”
“More or less” Jun shrugged “ despite your track with  Dr. Leonard Church’s project , we at ONI don’t believe in locking up valuable assets. You’re a good soldier, with the best interests for humanity at heart. We believe we need more people like  that at the helm of the new Spartan program.”
Sam felt all of the blood drain from her face. Alpha- or at least the Alpha she continued to see and hear in her head- had said the same thing. It was odd though, hearing it spoken from a flesh and blood person, rather than her  own sub concious where the ghost of her A.I still lingered.
“What sort of job would  you have me doing?” she asked
“In short, You’ll be our assistant . Handling recruitment files, training regiments, so on so forth”
Jun flipped the tablet over and slid it across the table to her, showing her a basic over view of what she could expect.
A way out ‘ she thought , reading it over and over again , taking in every detail ‘ a newstart. A way to actually …do something right and maybe …just do something worth while ‘
“I accept” She said .

Halo Infinite – Multiplayer Reveal E3 2021 Trailer
Halo Infinite is a 2021 first-person shooter game developed by 343 Industries and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is the sixth mainline entry in the Halo series, following Halo 5: Guardians (2015). The campaign follows the human supersoldier Master Chief and his fight against the enemy Banished on the Forerunner ringworld Zeta Halo, also known as Installation 07. Unlike previous installments in the series, the multiplayer portion of the game is free-to-play. The game was intended to release as a launch title for the Xbox Series X/S, but was delayed in August 2020 after Infinite's gameplay reveal in July 2020 drew negative feedback from both critics and Halo fans. Following an open beta release of the multiplayer component on November 15, 2021, coinciding with the franchise's 20th anniversary, the campaign was released for Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on December 8, 2021. #HaloInfinite #Halo #multiplayer Multiplayer In late 2552, during the battle for Earth, the Covenant occupy the centre of London. While Covenant patrols scout the city in search for surviving humans, a young woman, named Laurette Agryna, sneaks around the city streets and attempts to evade the patrols. She is spotted by a pack of Brutes, but is saved by a group of Spartans. Agryna later joins the UNSC military and eventually goes on to join the Spartan-IV program. Seven years after the fall of the Covenant, in the wake of Cortana's attack on Laconia Station and the dissapearance of both the Master Chief and the UNSC Infinity, Agryna—now serving as a Spartan Commander—begins training a new generation of Spartans and establishes new training facilities on classified frontier worlds, such as the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science. Some time after the establishment of the Academy, Spartans Sigrid Eklund and Hieu Dinh discover that an old UNSC fleet depot, located on the planet Camber, has been repurposed by the Banished to serve as a shipbreaking yard. After observing their activity for two days, the Spartans learn that the Banished have successfully created their own AI construct. The AI, named Iratus, detects Eklund and Dinh's presence in the yard and alerts the Banished, forcing the duo to hijack a Banished Phantom in order to escape. Iratus, however, follows them and attempts to lock down the Phantom's flight controls. In order to regain access to the flight controls, Dinh allows Iratus to infect his neural interface, leaving him unconscious. After returning to the Academy, Eklund informs Agryna of their encounter with the Banished. Agryna devises a plan to pull Iratus out of Dinh's neural interface and trap him on an ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) server. Meanwhile, Iratus continues to torture Dinh's mind, using memories of a failed mission in an attempt to break him. Agryna's plan eventually succeeds and Iratus, along with a complete archive of the Banished's operations on Camber, is secured, saving Dinh's life in the process. After the capture of Iratus, Eklund and Dinh choose to remain at the Academy, while Agryna prepares for a larger conflict with the Banished. While practicing at the Academy's firing range, Eklund expresses her concerns over Dinh's state of mind after the operation on Camber, but Dinh assures her that she and Agryna have nothing to worry about. Eklund introduces Dinh to one of the Academy's newly recruited Spartans, noting their role in the actions that saved Dinh's life. Dinh thanks the Spartan for their efforts and briefly reflects on his military training at the Academy.

Film Review - Operation Mincemeat
For our next cinema release of 2022, we’re looking back into World War 2-based films as we check out Operation Mincemeat…
Plot (as adapted from Wikipedia):
In 1943, the United Kingdom is entrenched in World War II. Lieutenant Commander Ewen Montagu, a Jewish barrister, remains in England while his wife Iris and their children travel to safety in the United States. Montagu takes a break from practising law when he is appointed to the Twenty Committee. His secretary, Hester Leggett, comes with him.
Prime Minister Winston Churchill has promised the US that the Allies will invade Sicily by July of that year in order to push further north. However, Sicily is considered an obvious target and may be defended by the Wehrmacht. Admiral Godfrey thinks that Britain must trick Nazi Germany into believing the Allies will invade Greece. Charles Cholmondeley proposes an operation from the Trout Memo, which would entail a corpse carrying false secrets washing ashore. Despite Godfrey's doubts, he gives Montagu and Cholmondeley permission to plan the operation with Lieutenant Commander Ian Fleming.
Montagu and Cholmondeley obtain the body of a vagrant named Glyndwr Michael, who died by possible suicidal poisoning. He is given the false identity of Major William Martin, Royal Marines, with a detailed backstory and ID photos. A widowed secretary in the office, Jean Leslie, offers a photo of herself to serve as Martin's fake fiancée, "Pam", in exchange for a position on the team co-ordinating the operation. The team fabricate items for Martin to carry in his pockets, including theatre tickets, personal bills and a love letter from "Pam" written by Hester. Cholmondeley is attracted to Jean, but soon comes to believe that Montagu and Jean share romantic feelings. This causes Cholmondeley to grow jealous and occasionally lash out at Montagu. Complications ensue when Michael's sister arrives to claim his body, but she is turned away by Montagu and Cholmondeley.
Godfrey suspects Montagu's brother, Ivor, is a spy for the USSR. He bribes Cholmondeley to spy on Montagu and, in return, Godfrey will locate and return the remains of Cholmondeley's brother, who was killed in action in Chittagong, Bengal. Cholmondeley reluctantly agrees.
Specialist MI5 driver St John "Jock" Horsfall transports Montagu, Cholmondeley and the corpse to the submarine base at Holy Loch. The corpse is then loaded onto the submarine HMS Seraph. On 30 April, the Seraph arrives in the Gulf of Cádiz and drops the corpse into the ocean. It is found by fishermen in Huelva, Spain. Operation Mincemeat staff attempt to get the fake documents to Madrid. However, the mission is hampered by bad luck, as the Spanish have resisted Nazi influence more than expected. Captain David Ainsworth, the British naval attaché in Madrid, meets with Colonel Cerruti of the Spanish secret police in one last attempt to get the papers to the Germans. When Martin's personal items are returned to London, a specialist works out that the documents have been tampered with. This gives Operation Mincemeat staff hope that Germany retrieved the false information.
Jean is threatened by Teddy, a waiter at a club the team has frequented, claiming to be a spy for an anti-Hitler plot within Germany. She tells him that Major Martin was travelling under an alias but the classified information was genuine. After Teddy leaves, Jean informs Montagu and Cholmondeley. They come to believe that Colonel Alexis von Roenne, who controls intelligence in the German Army High Command, sent Teddy to verify information so von Roenne could undermine Hitler. However, they have no way of being sure. Montagu takes Jean to his home for protection, but she accepts a job in Special Operations and plans to leave London. Montagu convinces her to stay at least until the operation has been completed.
On 10 July, the Allied invasion of Sicily begins. News arrives that the Allies suffered limited casualties, the enemy is retreating, and the beaches have been held. Afterwards, Cholmondeley admits he received his brother's remains in return for spying on Montagu. Feeling sympathetic and relieved that Operation Mincemeat was a success, Montagu offers to buy Cholmondeley a drink even though it is eight in the morning.
The epilogue says that Montagu reunited with Iris after the war, Jean married a soldier, Hester continued as Director of the Admiralty Secretarial Unit, and Cholmondeley remained with MI5 until 1952, later married, and travelled widely. Major William Martin's identity was revealed to be Glyndwr Michael in 1997 when an epitaph, with his real name, was added to Martin's headstone in Spain.
Review:
This is a very different variety of war film to most, as it steps away from the front-line of battle and obvious action-packed warfare to focus on intelligence work conducted to ensure the success of combat operations.  This makes Operation Mincemeat a breath of fresh air when you consider that most war films can be a long slog through action scene after action scene, focusing on little more than guns, tanks, planes and just general mindless violence.  The film also tries as much as possible to be historically accurate, again a relief for those of us who may find that film and TV can at times push drama and action over true-to-life substance too far at times.
This being said, the film does apparently fall short in places by taking artistic license in places, most notably the apparent love triangle between Montagu, Jean and Cholmondeley.  I say apparent love triangle because I’m not sure it quite qualifies.  We certainly see that Cholmondeley is attracted to Jean, and at one point Montagu also advances some affection for her, but it’s not explicitly put across as being a romantic affection, nor is any clear and obvious romantic interest shown by Jean towards either man.  Instead, we just get a bunch of ambiguous moments that are read, whether wrongly or not, as being romantic by others because they don’t know the real state of play and make assumptions.  Given that everyone involved is an intelligence operative, the idea that they would be making assumptions about anything is very concerning indeed.
This aside, the film is well-acted, with the likes of Colin Firth, Jason Isaacs and others doing a great job of making this more sedate type of war story very entertaining.  For James Bond fans, there’s also the occasional nod to that world via the presence of Ian Fleming, the intelligence agent who would go on to write Bond in the original novels.  If I have any criticism of this film beyond the insertion and handling of the love triangle, which I feel wasn’t particularly necessary, it’s the lack of proper introduction to the various characters.  I first watched this film on Blu-Ray, and I had to have the subtitles on to learn who everyone was.
Although the film does kind of make introductions as it goes along, many of these are too soft-spoken and, at times, they’re insufficiently explicit.  If you’re a very linear thinker, as I am, then you’ll often want proper introductions to characters quite soon after each appearance.  This is especially true if you’re not acquainted with the real-world events and characters that the film portrays.  This is another case of a film not taking the proper time to work the correct level of information to engage an audience, making the film tricky to follow for anyone who hasn’t studied World War II intelligence history.
Given these flaws, set against an otherwise excellent film, I would balance out the final score at 7 out of 10.

BY REAR ADMIRAL TIM GALLAUDET, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR - 08/02/23 11:00 AM ET
Last week, I had a front-row seat at the hearing of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee’s Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), also known as UFOs. The three witnesses provided extraordinary testimony on their observations of aerial craft with performance characteristics far beyond those of modern aircraft, as well as knowledge of a hidden U.S. government crash retrieval program of such vehicles and their nonhuman operators.
The witnesses were former officers in the U.S. military with stellar service records. Their message to Congress was that we are not alone, we possess technology unlike anything available in the public or private sectors, and the U.S. government has covered up this earth-shattering information for decades.
So how has our society responded? To quote an assessment in Forbes, “the internet shrugged.” After some brief reporting by the major news networks, they returned their attention to nearly full-time coverage of the dismal legal landscapes surrounding Hunter Biden and Donald Trump.
Perhaps the era of fake news has desensitized the public to remarkable revelations like these, so I feel compelled to share my perspective to shed light on their validity and implications.
As a retired U.S. Navy flag officer, I can attest to the integrity and authenticity of the two pilots who testified: retired Commander David Fravor and Ryan Graves. I have served on three aircraft carriers and count many Naval aviators as close friends. These two witnesses are the real deal.
So is David Grusch. As a Navy information warfare officer, I worked closely with the intelligence community and Grusch’s former command, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. I too have been read into special access programs, and I understand how Department of Defense classification systems and authorities work. His testimony is 100 percent credible.
It may take time for society to come to grips with this historic hearing, but we will be best served by immediately responding as follows:
1) The U.S. Congress should continue to demand the Department of Defense and intelligence community disclose UAP information, data, and materials to the public. The House Select Committee that Reps. Tim Burchett, Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, and Jared Moskowitz recently requested Speaker Kevin McCarthy establish can do this by further investigating the UAP cover-up described at the hearing and drafting legislation that directs disclosure. While specific technical characteristics regarding the materials and acquisition of data may require that they remaining classified, UAP should be included in other efforts by the Defense Department to solve the U.S. government’s over-classification problem.
2) The U.S. government should show leadership in international scientific studies of UAP. San Marino is proposing Project Titan to the United Nations secretary-general for this purpose. While the witnesses at the hearing highlighted the national security concerns that UAP represent, there is a global security issue as well. Not only do we lack technical data regarding their occurrence, we need to understand where they come from, who controls them, and what their intentions are. Advancing our understanding of these phenomena can reinforce international alliances and be used as leverage in resolving disputes. As the world leader in 20th century breakthroughs of nuclear power, information technology, and human exploration of the ocean and space, the U.S. has the opportunity to lead in a field with potentially more impact than any before it.
3) The U.S. research community should significantly expand the scientific study of UAP. With more disclosure and international engagement, U.S. national labs, in partnership with American universities and research institutions, can lead an effort to transform our understanding of physics and the universe. Several U.S. research institutions are already making remarkable progress, including Harvard University’s Galileo Project and Stanford University’s Nolan Lab. Based on the observed flight characteristics detailed in the hearing, the results of this endeavor could make the scientific revolution of the 16th and 17th centuries look like baby steps, with wide-ranging benefits in areas as diverse as transportation safety, agricultural productivity, energy efficiency, environmental stewardship and human health.
Our tiny planet orbits a relatively medium-sized star, in a galaxy of over 100 billion stars, among a distribution of several hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe. How arrogant to believe we are the only species that has developed a means for travel between celestial bodies. Now that we are finding out otherwise, we must demand disclosure of what the government knows. Instead of staying asleep at the wheel, we should wake up as a society for the safety, security, and scientific advantages that can be gained.
Rear Admiral (ret.) Tim Gallaudet, Ph.D., is the CEO of Ocean STL Consulting, LLC , a research affiliate with Harvard University’s Galileo Project, and a member of the advisory board of Americans for Safe Aerospace. He is a former acting and deputy administrator at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), acting undersecretary and assistant secretary of Commerce, and oceanographer in the Navy.

Spirit of Fire Vs Borg
so I was inspired by an ask @office-of-naval-intelligence got and I wanted to write this small thing.
couple of things this is AU post Halo wars 2, couple of things.
Anders did not ride the Ring back to UNSC space why? It did not work IDK take your pick but for one reason or another she is still on the Spirit.
They managed to scavenge a Slip space drive from the wreckage above the Arc and are making there way back to UNSC space,  the drive is inefficient so they can only go so far before they have to recharge, so the trip back is a long one, at least a couple years (not Voyager long, but that is not important.)
Also I’m not sure what the UNSC ship alert system is like (there version of Red Alert or Yellow alert) so I Made one up WatchCon being there version of Yellow Alert.
Also I’m assuming the Borg are in no way ready for Kinetic weapon’s which i think makes sense in cannon for them
that should cover everything, so enjoy!
Isabelle’s voice rung out over the ships intercom “Captain Cutter to the bridge.”
Cutter moved to the Bridge his hat in his hand he stated “report.”
A crewman called “unknown vessel on an intercept course sir.”
Cutter sat in the Captain’s chair “Covenant Ship?”
Isabelle stated “Matches no designs known to the UNSC sir.”
Cutter stated “go to WatchCon 1, open a hailing frequency.”
A Crewman said “frequency open sir.”
Cutter nodded “Unknown Vessel this is Captain James Cutter of the United Nations Space Command Vessel Spirit of Fire.”
What sounded like hundreds of voices responded “We are the Borg, Surrender your Ship. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile.”
Cutter made the cut coms motion with his right hand calling out “BATTLE STATIONS!”
Alarms started going off all over the ship as Cutter said “arm all weapons and stand by to fire, Isabelle how strong are they?”
The AI appeared “I’m not sure captain, there vessel is a cube…a big one, but I’m seeing No shielding no armor…it’s like an ant colony.”
Cutter asked “no shielding, no armor?”
The AI answered “yes sir.”
Cutter looked over the figures “one MAC round would do it.”
Anders stormed onto the bridge “sorry for taking so long Captain, is it true…an Alien Hivemind.”
Cutter glanced at her “Doctor?”
Anders sighed “they intend to try and assimilate us Captain that is the only logical idea.”
Cutter answered “well in a minute they only thing they will be assimilating is the cold vacuum of space, stand by MAC!”
Anders said “Captain, this could be our chance…imagine what we could learn!”
Cutter responded “my only concern is the safety of this vessel, if there anything left to recover then you can study it then, Isabelle do you have the firing sequence?”
Isabelle answered “MAC is ready Captain.”
Cutter answered “fire at will.”
The tip of the weapon glowed for a Second before a Sliver streak fired into the cube, there was Large explosion as the Round easily blasted through the cubes haul.
Isabelle reported “Borg Vessel heavily damaged Sir.”
Cutter said “Follow up with Second MAC kill shot.”
Anders said “captain, the vessel is disabled, let me investigate it.”
Cutter exhaled before saying “Cutter to Jerome.”
Jerome answered “go ahead Captain.”
Cutter said “Anders wants some data from our visitors, put together a recon team to board the vessel, Bring back anything of Value, be careful this could be a false flag.”
Jerome answered “we will be careful sir.”
Cutter nodded “saying to the bridge, stand by MAC’s and Archer pods.”
Anders smiled “thank you Captain.”
The a pelican flew towards the cube escorted by 2  Long Swords,  the long swords peeled away but stayed close in case the pelican needed a hot Evac as it landed,  the doors opened a Jerome Quickly cleared the area with his battle rifle before advancing in an arrow head formation with Alice and Douglas to his left and right respectively, After then Came Anders wearing a clumsy, vacuum tight suit flanked by a team of ODST’s.
Jerome said “ODST’s stay here and hold the exit, if we are back in 30 mikes, pull out and tell the captain to nuke this place to high heaven understood?”
The ODST Leader said “yes sir.”
Alice said “liking the vote of confidence boss.”
Jerome said “just being Prudent Alice, Professor Stay close, if we say go, you go got it.”
Anders nodded “of course.”
Jerome nodded “good, Jerome to Spirit of Fire actual, we have started the Operation.”
He gestured forward and the Spartans advanced in synch.  As soon they stepped out the opening they landed in to see what looks like miles of emptiness and Bipedal humanoid’s walking past most ignoring the tense Spartans as Jerome said “hold fire unless they make a move.”
Anders snapped her fingers in front of one drone who simply walked around her she said “it’s like they are ignoring us.”
There was a green effect and then 3 drones appeared out thin air behind the Spartans, Anders heard the sound of 3 safeties’ clicking off at once, but the drones just walked past the humans seemingly uninterested.
Anders said “easy, I don’t think they care about us.”
Douglas said “why, I mean we are here and we are armed…is it stupidity or overconfidence?”
Alice added “they did pick a fight with us with no shields or armor, so the former is possible.”
Jerome said “cut it out, Professor any ideas?”
Anders sighed “if I’m right, they not notice it the same way you don’t notice the cells in your body…whoa.”
Jerome asked “What is it?”
Anders pointed “the ship is fixing itself.”
Alice asked “how?”
Anders shrugged “I’m not seeing any terminals, anything that indicates a bridge engineering…anything…because it is everywhere.”
Anders stepped toward an Alcove on the wall saying, “the ship seems to be run through some kind of neural network. They are fixing the ship through sheer will power.”
Alice blinked “this place is starting to give me the Heebie-jeebies.”
Jerome agreed “I’m with Alice on this one Professor; I’m thinking it’s time we blew this ship to kingdom come.”
Anders said “wait, if we can get our hands on the teleportation tech, just think of what benefit that would be when we get back to the UNSC.”
Jerome looked at the others before saying “fine Professor let’s do this.” He handed Anders a side arm saying “you will need this.”
Anders took the pistol quizzically Jerome answered the question she didn’t ask “why they see us messing with the ship systems, I got a feeling they will not be friendly.”
The group moved before Andres said “here we go, the teleporter,” Lowering her scanner.
Jerome said “defensive positions, shoot to kill.”
As soon as Anders touched the teleporter, The drones started swarming and were answered by swift gunfire, and they dropped inhumanely and very quickly but kept coming.
The ODST’s radioed “Hostile’s are moving sir, they are still ignoring us but they are on their way to you.”
Jerome answered “we noticed thank you Sargent.”
Anders said “got it!”
Alice said “great, let’s be somewhere else!”
Douglas asked “professor any chance we can teleport out of here.”
Anders answered “even if I knew how to use it, if we were in range they would have used it against us.”
Alice fired saying “alright so we shoulder through these guys then.”
Jerome shook his head “no go, there are hundreds of them between us and the pelican, and nowhere near enough ammo.”
He turned on his radio “Pelican take off and get ready for a scoop.”
The ODST answered “Yes sir.”
Anders asked “a scoop? Do I want to know?”
Douglas said “just take a deep breath and wish very hard.”
Jerome said “Long swords requesting fire on our position.”
The long sword pilot answered “roger sir, firing for effect.”
Anders yelped as the missiles impacted the haul, blasting them and a few drones into space, Jerome flipped through space saying “Jerome to Spirt of Fire actual, take out that cube maximum prejudice.”
Cutter answered “roger that fire all MAC’s.”
Anders watched all 3 of the weapons light up before three streaks lit up the space hitting the cube, which exploded into millions of tiny pieces. There she was floating in space lost forever, she started to wonder how exactly she was going to die.
Anders felt herself get grabbed by Douglas a second later Alice grabbed Doulas, and she was grabbed by Jerome, who grabbed a small winch hanging from the Pelican’s doors that pulled them into the vehicle.
Anders was still clenching the teleporter when she sat down in the ship, she looked rather green.
Jerome patted her back “first time being thrown out of a ship in deep space?”
Anders nodded “if we could not do that again, I would appreciate it.”
Jerome simply nodded behind his helmet as the pelican flew back towards the Spirt of Fire.
its drive recharged the vessel jumped into Slip space carrying on its journey back home.

how about some good old commander fox content to round out foxtober?????
Tumblr media
✶    –   COMMANDER FOX / READER   ;   genuine
summary: some things come easy like white lies, affection, and highly classified information surrounding the planned assassination of one coruscant guard commander.
pairing: commander fox / reader
tags: one-shot, pining, co-workers to friends to lovers, peak bitchy fox (as he should be), republic naval intelligence!reader, lite military spy mumbo jumbo
a/n: i have a lot of thoughts on this man so enjoy the complexities and who knows! maybe i'll write more!
A voice comes from the hall.
“You’ve been avoiding my calls.”
Lovely.
Just what he needs. As if the handful of reports on his desk, scattered amongst half-finished caf cups, isn’t enough.
Commander Fox decides, nearly immediately, there are two ways this could play out: say he gives in, does this counter-intelligence song and dance, and inevitably offers up his information on the current affair you’re interested in, or he is difficult. Unfortunately, difficulty is in his nature — and no matter what, the two of you always find yourself in that song and dance.
It's the nature of things.
Fox doesn’t even raise his head. He doesn’t have to — he would know your voice anywhere, though he choses pointedly to keep that between himself and the other myriad of skeletons in his Coruscant Guard Headquarters’ closet. Your voice precedes your appearance in the doorway, followed only by a slight sway in your posture as you clasp your hands tightly behind your back.
“Special agent,” comes the bitter, morose greeting, “To what do I owe this burden?”
Tilting your head and letting out an amused little huff from your nose, you watch the slumped figure of the Commander behind his desk. He’s occupied — clearly, as always — and keeps his eyes down. His datapad is his center of attention.
You hum. “Charming, Commander. I see you're keeping busy these days.”
“Yes, well,” a rough crackle of a sneer leaves his lungs, but it’s more cynical than anything; his eyes narrow as he signs off angrily on something, stylus tapping against the screen, “To glory and peace and all its ilk.”
“Ever the patriot.”
“Born and bred, unfortunately.”
That gets a laugh out of you — more than a huff, something close to genuine but far from it all the same. Fox is no idiot. He knows someone like you wouldn’t be naive enough to trust him with something as coaxing as a laugh. There is a reason you were quickly climbing the ranks of the Republic Naval Intelligence branch. Lies and secrets and facades are your bread and butter. He knows not to trust a laugh, or a pretty face.
For a moment — and no longer — brown eyes meet yours.
Fox holds your gaze, then lets it go in favor of his reports.
“Who let you in here?” he says, tone clipped.
“Thire,” you easily explain, stepping farther into the large office with your gloved hands still clasped behind your back, “He seemed to understand the urgency of the situation.”
“Is there...” Fox questions distractedly, waggling the sleek stylus in the air haughtily, “Urgency?”
“Per my last communique—” it's spoken with a tone, one he knows is a callback to a phrase he's used plenty in correspondence between you and the Director of Intelligence.
It’s Fox’s turn to laugh now — albeit rough and exhausted. He leans back in his desk chair, then, and crosses his arms over the intricate, crimson artistry of his armor. You hum, standing in the center of the room, and watch him with a half-cocked smirk.
The Grand Army of the Republic's Commander looks exhausted. You've known the man for nearly a year now; the two of you have worked closely on a number of matters, ranging from Senate security to various threats made against the capital. Your intel often came in handy — and the Commander's resourcefulness and willingness to get the job done, no matter the cost, was often a gilded perk.
While some may not call Fox a good man, he certainly was good at his job. He is a paramount player in the outcome of this war. He knows the importance of action, of choices. The right choices.
You like him. You've liked him for a while now.
You eye the streaks of silver by his temples, note the growing prickly of thick stubble along his jaw. His eyes are tired. He instinctively reaches for that cup of cap to his left, by the large monitors the climb to the ceiling playing over the lower level hold's feed. It went cold hours ago, but it's still something.
"In case no one has cared to inform you, staring is considered rude in most galactic cultures," the quip is sharp as he sips, voice echoing in the paper cup. He reaches, pressing a button along the command control.
The door to his office slides shut over your shoulder.
"Most would say the same about the cold shoulder," you mutter as the icy, professional edge begins to thaw between the two of you in private — you unclasp the pristine, ice-colored cape along your shoulders and fold it neatly in your arms. It finds a place atop a neat stack of durasheets outlining the senate floor. Before placing it down, you eye them slowly with a craned neck, "These are new."
You're pulling off your gloves when Fox scoffs. He turns to watch the security feed. The cup is still held in his hands.
"They're expanding the third level mezzanine."
"You sound thrilled."
Fox tsks as you busy yourself with plucking one glove off, finger by finger. His tone is exasperatedly tired, so much so that If you didn't know him it may come off as disinterested.
"The refusal to consider preventative safety measures and only rely on reaction speaks volumes about the competency of the Senate."
"Seems to be a theme."
"A motif, even," he says dryly, pushing back from his desk and widening his posture. He leans back a bit farther.
You settle neatly in the chair across from his desk and cross your legs. Your gloves are draped across your knee.
For a moment, there's a tense beat of silence between the two of you. You break it with a well-aimed, half-there smile. Fox's eyes chart your face like a well-loved holomap. He's charted those micro-expressions a thousand times, burning as bright in his mind as the nearest stars.
From beneath your jacket, he catches the glint of your blaster strapped to your hip.
"This is serious, then," Fox says slowly, pointing with a finger to the surrounding mess of papers along his desk as he clutches his iced-out caf; he's noted enough about your behavior to know something is going on, "You've been in here a total of three minutes and have yet to make a comment about the state of the place—"
"—I was being polite—"
"You're concerned," he fills in the blanks. He sets the caf down.
You swallow the rebuttal leveled on your tongue in favor of a slow breath. He notes the way you adjust your posture; you roll your shoulders back and level your chin. Your uniform, starched and as prim as ever, does little to sharpen the look you give him. It makes you look more severe. Cold.
It's your tone of voice that reminds him that you two could consider one another friends.
Could.
"I am."
Perhaps if you weren't a damn spy, playing the game, and he wasn't so difficult, so grey, so morally here nor there. Perhaps if you were both softer, untouched by war, promised a life of peace? Perhaps if the winding web of this conflict hadn't ensnared you both so tightly.
When you speak again, it's slow.
"We've heard some chatter about a planned assassination."
The 'we' is never explicit — could be one or three or fifteen of the eyes floating around the capital, could be Ciphers or Officers or Analysts. All Fox knows is that the 'we' have been instrumental in the past. Chatter from the 'we' was rarely good.
The Commander bristles. His tone is low.
"A considerable threat?"
"Decidedly so."
"Against who?" he says, already cycling through the hundreds of standard operating procedures for scenarios like this in his mind. He flicks his datapad alive, already reaching for his helmet to comm Thire and alert him of the development.
He slips it on over his tangle of greying curls.
Your words stop him dead in his tracks.
"You."
This spurs his helmet to turn to you, eeriely silent, and suddenly you aren't so sure how to guage this conversation. Sure, you know Fox. You... Well, again, people like you and him don't have friends but he's the closest anyone has really ever come—
"You've joined a rather exclusive list of people," you say tepidly, testing the waters, "Perhaps there's a punch card. Complimentary drinks, even."
Fox remains silent.
Then, he moves and slowly clicks off his datapad all while keeping that tinted visor trained on you.
More silence follows.
Then, a quiet wheeze rasps out from his vocalizer.
"Me?"
Your shoulders sag in slight defeat as you realize he's deciding to not take this completely seriously — or perhaps at least act as if it isn't going to be the thing he fixates on for the next six cycles. You know him. You know that this little show is an attempt to brush off the crushing possibilities of what a successful assassination could reap.
As if he'd read your mind, Fox croaks: "If I die, the Guard is not prepared for Thire to step into command—"
"You're not going to die—"
"Don't say that. It would be a fucking gift—"
"Have I ever told you that you're a dramatic man?"
"No," he says as he stands and crosses his arms; he's now begun to pace, "And I'll act as if I didn't hear it, either."
You roll your eyes and lean forward in your seat. You follow his movements through the office. Back and forth and back and forth and if he thought he was acting convincing brushing this off with his usual stiff humor, then he was wrong.
"It's being handled, Fox."
"It's not standard protocol to inform a target they're under threat," he says as he turns on his heel to pin you in your seat, "Unless absolutely necessary."
"Yes, well," you breath out an exasperated sigh and toss your hands, "I believe you deserve to know."
"Does the Deputy Director know you're here, telling me?"
"No," you bite out with narrowed eyes at the insinuation; you catch it, "This is being shared in confidence."
"You're a spy," comes the easy, cool reply, "Is that the truth — that this is in confidence — or just some well-placed lie?"
That shouldn't sting — neither him nor you, but it does. Trust is a fickle thing. Fox is glad his helmet is on. It does little to hide his discomfort but at the very least you can't see the regret in his eyes when the words crackle through his vocalizer.
The silence isn't kind.
When you break it, that regret grows.
"Despite the circumstances, I'll have you know I rarely lie to you," your words are honest, quieter than usual, "Only when it's of the utmost priority."
Well.
That certainly changes the tone of this exchange.
You wind your arms around yourself, still maintaining your usual confidence but it's softer now. Less... Less like the Special Agent of the Republic Naval Intelligence he knows, and more like the name that rarely falls along his tongue. It feels foreign to him, to say it in such a way that garners your eyes to turn upwards at him. He half sighs it, in exasperation and tided with a newfound wave of stress.
"You said it's being handled?"
"It is," you say flippantly as you try to let the tension of the exchange roll off of you like water, "By me and my men."
Somehow, that feels like a compliment.
He’s important enough to have your attention — one of the highest ranking officials in the Republic’s Intelligence branch.
Your posture shifts. You stand and take a few steps towards him. Your boots click against the polished durasteel of the floor tiles. Fox's sigh is strangled by his helmet.
"Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet," you reply quickly, moving to nudge his arm with your own, "We've got a solid lead but this doesn't mean you're in the clear."
"Perhaps we should do a class demonstration on the third level mezzanine's weak points—" he mocks.
You swat at his chest plate before moving to gather your cape and swing it over your shoulders. You pin it, easily, and work on your gloves. Fox watches with measured respect and a creeping burn of affection. Be it small, be it mighty. It bears a weight. He knows nothing good can come of it, but still it stays.
His visor stares you down.
"Do me a favor," you reply as you turn towards the door, "Keep your head down, and next time? Don't ignore my calls."
Fox leans over his desk and presses the slim, white button that beckons the durasteel door open.
"Thank you."
He means it. You can tell.
You offer him a smile as you leave — and it's genuine.
Fox can tell.
