Hi Uno, I was wondering if you could give a tip to a beginning writer like me. I have noticed that I repeatedly write the same pattern of words, making the reading repetitive. You are the best Fics writer I have ever read and I was hoping you could help me :D.
sorry for the late answer!
it's a repetitive advice but you should definitely read more books, preferably from writers with different writing styles. i also tend to use the same pattern of words, honestly, but it's a good thing that you notice it! once you start noticing it, you can start with something simple like googling for a word and/or a phrase's synonyms.
for example: 'she stared into his eyes.'
she focused on his gaze.
she met his gaze.
she met his eyes.
she peered into his eyes.
she held his gaze.
she caught his stare.
some synonyms to consider: surveyed, met, focused, held, caught, peered, 'got lost into', looked, etc.
remember: merriam webster is a very reliable friend. and my friend recommended some writers with good prose and i trust their judgement so here they are. most of these are mainstream so you can start with some relatively popular ones to get a good grasp of what's 'in':
