If I had a remembrance book, I would mark down how it was when we left our little house in the big woods to go west to Indian Territory. We had to go, Pa said, because so many people had come to live in the big woods, there wasn't enough game anymore for him to hunt and he feared we might go hungry. Ma said we might never again see Grandma and Grandpa, or Aunt Docia and Aunt Ruby and Uncle George. Though it made me sad, I still thought it a fine thing to go where there had never been a road before. We'd go where the land was more bountiful, he said, and he sold our house and land and cow, and packed whatever would fit in the wagon. I was glad Pa took his fiddle, for it makes a joysome sound. Mary was afraid to go, but I knew nothing bad could happen as long as we had Pa and Jack. Jack is my best and truest friend and Pa says there has never been a better watchdog. I knew there would be rivers to cross and hills to climb, and I was glad, for this is a fair land and I rejoiced that I would see it.

Me: Is this Farmer Boy sequel written in 2012 really going to be able to feel like a legitimate follow-up to the style and atmosphere of the original, or is it just another modern cash-grab?
Heather Williams, on page 2: Best of all, he knew that fall meant crispy spareribs and sweet cider and hot roasted potatoes with melting butter and all the pumpkin pie he could eat.
Me: ....it looks like I can trust you. Carry on.

An Update!
First of all, Happy New Year!
Second, Hi! I'm back! I said ages ago I would be back after finishing a series I was working on in another fandom... the series for the other fandom took me way longer to finish than I thought it would.
But I finished it, and the holidays are over, which means I am back to writing for RDR2! Updates will be sporadic because I'm in college, but I am excited to be back!

Doctor Baker: But you'll mend fast. You'll be up and movin' around in a week, 10 days. Mr. Hanson: Yah, the rest will do you good. Charles: I can't spend a week in bed. I've got a lot of work to do. Mr. Hanson: You do what the Doc tells you! I will talk to O'Neil. Charles: It's not just stackin' the grain. I've got plowin' to do. I've got work in the barn. Doctor Baker: It will have to wait. I'll check back in a couple of days, Mrs Ingalls. Caroline: Thank you, Doctor. I'll see you out. Mr. Hanson: You stay in bed.

non-fic to-do list
hello, gamers! I'm trying uuuh something similar to my to-read public shaming, but with a slightly nicer name and a tiny bit more incentive than normal.
here's the short version: Judith Butler has a new book out! it's called Who's Afraid of Gender? and I'm very excited to read it! however I also know how Judith Butler writes, and how I digest their work, and I'm definitely going to have an easier time if I have a copy of the book that I can highlight and take notes in.
but first: despite my general objections to acquiring more books than I can read, I have managed to acquire QUITE A FEW nonfiction books that I have not yet managed to read. some I've purchased, some were gifted or loaned to me, one I downloaded for free and printed in its entirety.
and now they all have to go, by which I mean get read, and only once I've read them all am I allowed to buy Butler's new book. if this takes long enough it might even be out in paperback and slightly cheaper, although I'm not holding out too much hope for that.
so, without further ado, here's a reading list that is absolutely all over the place:
From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death (Caitlin Doughty)
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder (Caroline Fraser)
Superfreaks: Kink, Pleasure, and the Pursuit of Happiness (Arielle Greenberg)
Necropolitics (Achille Mbembe)
How to Taste: A Guide to Discovering Flavor and Savoring Life (Mandy Naglich)
Dude, You're a Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School (C.J. Pascoe)
Orientalism (Edward W. Said)
Mummies, Cannibals and Vampires: The History of Corpse Medicine from the Renaissance to the Victorians (Richard Sugg)
The Caped Crusade: Batman and the Rise of Nerd Culture (Glen Weldon)
Orientalism is already in progress, and Doughty and Weldon's books will both be rereads, if that's interesting to anybody. anyone have any suggestions about where to start?

I’ve been watching a LOT of Little House on the Prairie lately and just realized it’s kinda SDLN coded? 🥺🥺🥺 Mr. Ingalls gives off crazy Joel energy (handsome, muscular, gentle father to his daughters) and he is sooooo down bad for Mrs. Ingalls and vice versa 😂 the cabin and the creek too!!
I could kiss you on the mouth right now nonnie -- the amount of which I read and reread those books throughout my life is insane. I still reread The Long Winter every winter, I've gone to talks about the Ingalls family, they have historical sites in my state! and Charles Ingalls in that fucking show ROCKED me.
He's so handsome, so strong, so protective and caring, so in tune with his family and his emotions -- he's literal peak everything (in the show and the books!).
Idk how the hell Caroline ever kept her hands to herself???
Tumblr media
SDLN was definately inspired by that story, as was Pioneer Frankie:
Enjoy my lovely fellow Little House lover!!
