many people know about the 1950s doctor who was obsessed with lobotomies (Dr. Walter Freeman)
fewer people know about the 1860s doctor who was obsessed with clitoridectomies, Isaac Baker Brown
he claimed the operation could cure pretty much all forms of mental illness in women- and then-undesirable behaviors that weren't mental illness at all, like masturbation. it's not known how many women and girls he mutilated, but some were teenagers on whom the procedure was performed without their (or their parents') knowledge or consent
Baker Brown cited a text by Hippocrates as support for this practice- a text which in fact concerned surgical removal of genital warts
he was kicked out of the Obstetrical Society of London in 1867 because of his lax approach to consent, but clitoridectomies remained in sporadic use as a mental health treatment in the US and UK until the mid-20th century. thank heaven they don't seem to have ever been commonplace exactly, but...one person subjected to this is one too many
(note: I use language exclusively referring to women here because, as far as we know, his victims were all what we'd now call cis women and girls. obviously not everyone with a clitoris is a woman, and not every woman has a clitoris)

I’m upset that antis have basically normalized telling survivors of abuse that they’re continuing the cycle of abuse and need therapy as a form of corrective punishment over fictional ships
They all care so much about CSA survivors that they openly share rape fantasies of real people, often because they were talked back to after coming to someone else’s post that they KNEW would upset them
Antis care about survivors that agree with them so long as they toe the line, after that they don’t give a shit

I left tumblr but I guess I might be coming back soon for real time since apparently Elon's bots ARE POSTING ACTUAL, REAL LIFE CP AND CSA NOW.
Tumblr media
I'm not even fucking joking. There are dozens of people in the replies and QRTs saying the same thing: the "PUSSY IN BIO" bots pots posted actual CP on their tweets.
IF YOU USE TWITTER, DO NOT HAVE AUTO-RECORDING ON, DO NOT STREAM AND MAKE SURE YOUR CACHES ARE CLEAN, POSSESSION OF CP - EVEN ACCIDENTAL - IS ILLEGAL. IF YOU SEE A TWEET HIDDEN FOR SPAM, DO NOT OPEN IT. I'm lucky to not have run into any CP/CSA footage myself yet, but I'm going to be extremely careful and I recommend you all be too. And if you DO happen to run into it, you can use websites like https://tips.fbi.gov/home. report.cybertip.org or iwf.org.uk/en/uk-report/ to report it.
Don't bother reporting it to twitter. Elon's already been exposed for restoring the account of a man who posted real CP. He won't care. He's a demon and twitter has become exactly the way he wants it.
Stay safe and pray for Elon Musk's downfall.

if you support israel right now, you're supporting the extermination of the palestinian people.
it really is that simple.
this isn't a 'complicated conflict,' it isn't a situation that 'requires nuance,' it's not a 'geopolitical event' that requires us to condemn the 'bad actors' on 'both sides.'
it's a genocide.
there is no 'nuance' to be had here. it's a genocide, committed by the israeli state against the palestinian people, and it's happening right now as we speak. you don't have to infer anything: israel has openly, with next to no pushback from so-called liberal democracies, cut off gaza's access to water, food and electricity. that's more than two million palestinians denied even the basic necessities for life. a million of them, children.
what is that, if not a genocide?
and that's only the latest escalation. we could go all day, listing the atrocities the palestinian people have been subjected to. the killings, the beatings, the children sexually abused in detention center, all the hospitals and ambulances being blown up, videos of palestinians being heckled by settlers as they're driven from their homes, israelis gathering on hilltops to cheer as their military drops bombs on gaza...
but all westerns want to talk about, is hamas.
because the murder of palestinians by the IDF is status quo; it doesn't affect them. what's one more dead palestinian but a statistic? but if hamas has killed a handful of israelis — if they've go as far as to even kill babies — then that justifies the extermination of two million palestinians, children and infants included.
westerns will even say that the palestinians brought it on themselves; that they should have know that a drop of israeli blood requires a river in return.
and just so we're clear, you don't have to like hamas. but when you equate hamas with the IDF, when you derail every conversation by demanding a condemnation of 'both sides,' or when you, god forbid, agree that israel is justified in dismantling hamas — which, as israel themselves have outlined, will involve the complete destruction of gaza and the murder of hundreds of thousands of civilians — then either wake up, or own up to the fact that you're a participant in the extermination of the palestinian people.
do you think i'm being harsh? then imagine how it's like living under constant aerial bombardment. with no food, no water, no electricity. constant air-raid sirens. a bomb, dropping every minute. never knowing a moment a peace, always wondering if today is going to be your last day, if you and your family are still going to be here tomorrow.
could you stomach living in gaza, for even a day? i doubt it.
and still, now, on the eve of what might be the ground invasion of gaza — with one million palestinians being told to flee, with nowhere to go — i'm getting messages from people who demand my sympathy... for israel.
well, you're not getting it.
i'm not even humoring your hand-wringing.
if you live in israel, and you're one of the ones who've turned a blind-eye to the suffering of the palestinian people, if you've fought for the IDF or tacitly supported them, if you've callously called upon the memory of the holocaust thinking the death and suffering of your ancestors would wash the blood of your own hands....
then yeah, i think you deserve every single hamas rocket lobbed at you and so much more.

i think when someone replies to the thought of "your triggers don't get to determine the kind of art other people make" with "maybe not pedophilia and incest though" maybe they are not talking about the controversial novel "lolita" or anything else with "dark themes that may make you feel uncomfortable" and are in fact talking about the people online that write thousands upon thousands of words about fictional kids being abused purely for fun and pleasure. like i dunno. uncomfortable themes have a place in something with good writing, sure. but maybe i'm tired of seeing this fucking "let people write what they want to write uwu" type bullshit post every other day, even if the OP means well. no one on fucking ao3 is vladimir nabokov. let's be honest

i do think we should advocate for minors to learn more about online safety but when i see people just like. regurgitating the old "stranger danger" rhetoric and insisting the way to solve the issue is for minors to be banned from the internet or for their parents to be constantly tracking them it's oh yeah i'm sure no child has every been abused by a family ever. and that isolating them from any other adult with varying perspectives is not like the standard tactic of like. conservative homeschool parents, or religious communities or cults or anything like that.

A friend told me that once you start noticing there's a new church scandal about mass abuse coverup literally every 1-2 weeks, you never stop noticing it. I thought he was exaggerating and immediately googled "church scandal," where I learned of a breaking story about a massive csa coverup by the french catholic church.
I've been periodically checking in on this for years now. Keeps being true.

seeing people victim blame Drake Bell and accuse him of attention seeking for speaking about his CSA on a documentary that is about all the Nickelodeon kids that were abused is making my skin crawl. I understand that he perpetuated the cycle of abuse, I do, but that does not erase the fact he's a victim too. His entire life got derailed and he went down the path he did and its inexcusable and horrible but it does. not. change. the fact he's a victim too and likely this grooming and abuse is what led him down the path it did

If children always know what's best for them and should never have their decisions opposed, then do you believe they can consent to sex?
my favourite thing about this classic Gotcha about youth liberation is that 30% of child sexual abuse is perpetrated by family members and of the remaining 70%, the overwhelming majority is split between family friends & authority figures like doctors and priests--adults holding unconditional authority over children is in fact the primary enabler of child sexual abuse!

holy shit, John Ruskin (1819-1900) was a creep
guy meets Effie Gray when she's 12 and he's 21, stays in continuous contact with her, then marries her when she's 19. refuses to consummate the marriage- despite writing a letter about his eagerness for the wedding-night undressing -because some unspecified aspect of her body disgusts him, and it's annulled several years later, at which point she marries artist John Everett Millais (who has no such hangups- they go on to have eight children)
then he meets Rose la Touche when he is hired as her art tutor at age 39 and she is 10. remains close with her, writes paens of praise to her childish beauty...and then tries to marry her when she's 18. thankfully her parents reach out to Gray- you know, the woman who very publicly did not want to stay married to him -to ask what he was like as a husband. she reports that he's "oppressive" and they forbid the match. he later asks for Rose's hand AGAIN when she's 21 and therefore of legal age, and she still refuses him
years LATER he claims that Rose's spirit is telling him to marry a girl who's visiting his family. I don't know the age of this girl, but given that at least one commentator described her using that term- girl -I'm not optimistic
he also asked illustrator Kate Greenaway to draw naked little girls for him, so. there's that, in the context of his other behavior
people gloss over this to a disturbing degree because they value his work, it seems like, based on my brief research
(I've genuinely seen someone say "but he didn't try to court Rose la Touche formally until she was 18!!!" DUDE. he still spent ALL OF THE INTERVENING YEARS CLOSE WITH HER and then PROPOSED THE SECOND IT WAS SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE. that is NOT ANY LESS CREEPY!)
("he just admired children's innocence and beauty!" okay, yes, that would be innocuous enough out of context...but it does not lead you to attempt to marry the object of your admiration, though, usually? if you're not a Total Creep?)

I know I’ve talked about this before, mostly on Twitter, but when people talk about the possibilities of or the allegories in the show of Hunter being a csa victim at the hands of Belos, many peoples responses are somewhere along the lines of “Belos wouldn’t do that! He’s a colonizer but he’s not THAT evil!” And it’s like.
Number one, that’s one of the big things that colonizers DO when it comes to their destruction, number two, it’s evident that people w those responses are coming from a place of thinking colonization is somehow a lesser evil. Something less close to home than SA is- when in fact it still happens, and people alive today are still affected by colonization. They go hand in hand. And not only is he a colonizer, he is a Christianity-adjacent religious figurehead, a group of people notorious for being perpetrators of SA.
Another thing I’ve seen is people responding with “but the Grimwalkers are clones of his brother, he wouldn’t feel that way towards him.”
SA is not about love. It’s about control and violence. It’s about doing harm. He clearly had no qualms about killing his brother or desecrating his corpse to create Grimwalkers, so why would that be “too far?” Belos has shown time and time again that nothing is too far for him, he’s not above anything.
Lastly when people question where the headcanon even came from, it’s mostly with victims seeing themselves in Hunter, seeing patterns, and for me it’s mostly the allegorical implications of the possession. Someone taking control of your body and making you do things you don’t want to do? Rot inside you leaving scars, physical or metaphorical, that last? That violation is all too familiar.
Idk. I just have a lot of thoughts about it and seeing people immediately jump to “oh if you have this headcanon then you’re clearly a weirdo who secretly gets off to it” is such. A disservice? And disrespectful even? Calling this facet of trauma “too much” or “too taboo” does nothing to help real life victims and survivors, and in fact it makes them feel like they can’t talk about it at all. One in five people have been victims of csa in their lifetime, think about that the next time you go to a grocery store. Abuse is abuse, and seeing familiarities in fiction shouldn’t be written off as perverse just because of the nature of it. Idk.
