Day 244: Friday September 1, 2023 - "Friday Night Lights"
The Friday before Labor Day is the start of football season in most corners of the country, and while we're a long way for the corn field lined ball fields of Gratiot County, we still tried to capture some of the celebration here at the Finca as the Spartans chipped off against Central Michigan. It also kicks off the 100th season of Spartan Stadium, the central cathedral of my sports life - so much talk of the history of the place and I promised William, I would take him there. Just like Papa took me.
I remembered, just in time to hang the flag out in front, and as I unfurled it, I hoped this season goes better than the last one. "Give me a reason to replace this old thing!" An early season game with CMU, never a safe bet, as I remember from my early early years, and the first half of the game proved the nerves to be true with a low scoring mostly 0-0 game. My parents were sitting down in the North End Zone and sure enough in the second half, they saw a flurry of scoring right down in front of them, including a circus one handed grab. "We could get used to that" I said as William monkey crawled on my back, screaming in my ear, as if that was maybe what he though watching football was all about. He's seen his share of Spartan games from this couch, to know how it goes. This is officially his third football season, and while it will be a long time before we see one like his first year, at least we're starting off with a 1-0 record, and can hope to smile all the way to Iowa City later this month!

Introduction
Hello,
My name is Joshua Washington and I play football at Central Michigan University. I love making music and just hanging out in my free time. I hope to reach new people on here. I chose our very own media team for the football team here at CMU. They put in a lot of hours creating amazing content for all the athletics so fans can get an inside view of our program. They are very organized between the separation of sports, they post on time for things like game days, and they always take care of the players with pictures and videos taken. https://cmuchippewas.com/documents/2020/12/22//2020_FB_Media_Guide_Final.pdf?id=2482

JJ Watt Net Worth: What Is His Relationship Status?
Tumblr media
JJ Watt Net Worth: As of the end of 2022, J.J. Watt is expected to have amassed a fortune of $10 million. Football player J.J. Watt plays defensive end for the Houston Texans of the National Football League. Watt attended the University of Wisconsin for college football and was selected first overall by the Houston Texans in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Who Is JJ Watt?
Born on March 22, 1989, defensive end Justin James Watt currently plays in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals (NFL). He attended Central Michigan and Wisconsin for college football before being selected first overall by the Houston Texans in the 2011 NFL Draft. Three times in his first five seasons in the NFL, defensive end J.J. Watt was named the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year. His primary position is defensive end, but he also plays some defensive tackle. He also played some offensive snaps in 2014, when he caught three touchdown passes. Both his sack total and his forced fumble total are Texans franchise records. Watt was honored as Sports Illustrated's 2017 Sportsman of the Year.
What Is The Net Worth Of JJ Watt Net Worth?
Professional American football player JJ Watt of the United States is worth an estimated $50 million. Watt, a defensive end for the Houston Texans, has earned the nickname "sack master" due to his prolific sack totals. JJ was drafted by the Texans in 2011 following a successful high school and college career. Throughout his career, Watt has been named the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year on multiple occasions. The first player in NFL history to record 20+ sacks in consecutive seasons, he accomplished this feat in 2014. Texans fans were skeptical of Watt at first, but he eventually won them over and established himself as one of the league's all-time great defensive ends. He was honored by "Sports Illustrated" as their 2017 Sportsperson of the Year.
JJ Watt Net Worth: Early Life
Born in Pewaukee, Wisconsin on March 22, 1989, Justin James Watt. Watt grew up with two brothers, both of whom went on to play in the NFL, and it was in their company that he first discovered his passion for both ice hockey and football. He stopped playing hockey when he was 13 to devote himself fully to football, citing the time and money required to pursue both. JJ participated in four varsity sports during his high school years: football, basketball, baseball, and track & field. During this time, he developed a deep love for the sport of football and helped his team achieve great success. In his senior year, Watt not only became the team's most valuable player, but also a first-team All-State pick. Despite his accomplishments, JJ did not receive significant interest from academic institutions.

Latest Updates JJ was recruited by Central Michigan University and signed on as a tight end after receiving a full athletic scholarship there. After only one year, he transferred to Wisconsin to continue his football career as a defensive end for the Badgers rather than at CMU. During this time, Warr was a sacking machine, taking out quarterbacks like there was no tomorrow. JJ was the team leader in tackles for loss, quarterback hurries, blocked kicks, and forced fumbles during the 2010 season. His season stats included 42 solo stops, 20 help stops, 21 stops for a loss, and 7 sacks.
JJ Watt Net Worth: Career
When Watt declared for the 2011 NFL Draft, he did not return to college for his final year. JJ began his professional career with the Texans, where he quickly established himself as a starting lineup mainstay. In his first season, he recorded more than five sacks and was instrumental in Houston's historic playoff run. Due to his outstanding play in the postseason, he was awarded the Texans' Rookie of the Year award. JJ had some flashes of brilliance in his first season, but he didn't become a household name until his sophomore year. This season he recorded over 20 sacks, making it one of the best seasons for a defensive end in NFL history. He received numerous awards in 2013, including NFL Player of the Year and a spot on the NFL Pro Bowl Team. Watt maintained his strong play throughout the 2013 season when the Texans overall struggled. It was his first game with the Texans after signing a new contract in 2014, and he made an immediate impact by scoring a touchdown from scrimmage. Later that year, he recovered a fumble by Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and ran 45 yards for another touchdown. JJ finished the season as the season's best defensive player. Watt dealt with injuries all through 2015, but he still managed to start many games and perform admirably. He had groin surgery for a sports hernia back in 2016. Surgery to repair a herniated disc was among the procedures he underwent later in 2016. In 2016, he missed the rest of the season after sustaining back surgery following a string of games. In 2017, he made his way back onto the team, only to be taken off the field with a broken leg. As a result of more leg surgery, Watt will miss the rest of the season. In 2018, Watt was reinstated to the starting lineup and promptly returned to form by recording 16 sacks. However, injury problems continued in 2019 when, only eight weeks into the season, he tore his pectoral, ending his season. It wasn't until 2020, when JJ was back on the team, that he finally scored a touchdown after being absent since 2014.
JJ Watt Net Worth: Relationship
In 2016, Watt began a romantic relationship with Kealia Ohai, a professional soccer player. The year 2019 marked the couple's engagement. Ohai and Watt tied the knot in the Bahamas in the year 2020.
JJ Watt Net Worth: Real Estate
JJ was reported to have bought a house in the Summit neighborhood of southeastern Wisconsin in 2015. The log cabin in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, is 4,500 square feet in size and is situated on 35 acres of land. The four-bedroom house, which Watt reportedly purchased for $800,000, has an opulent layout. JJ put his Texas house up for sale in 2016 for $465,000. Located in Pearland, Texas, this "modest" home features 4169 square feet of living space, four bedrooms, and a saltwater pool. There is a little over a quarter acre of land surrounding the house. Watt paid around $399,000 when he bought the property in 2011. basket
Tumblr media
In hindsight, maybe Steph should have assumed something was up when Katie Sheehan kept bidding on her basket.
As a Catholic school, there was little more St. Catherine’s loved than outmoded patriarchal traditions. From girls wearing white dresses underneath their already-white graduation gowns to boys being unable to buy prom tickets for fellow guys who couldn’t wait in line after school that day, it was one big patriarchal machine. The basket bidding fundraiser was no different. It was an old tradition, much older than the cutesy Gilmore Girls episode that would air almost twenty years later, so St. Catherine’s couldn’t resist. Every year on a Saturday in October, the girls in the senior class would make picnic baskets for the rest of the school to bid on. The highest bidder would get to have lunch on the football field with the girl who made the basket. According to Mrs. Connolly, the senior class advisor, the money was supposed to help them afford a nice prom. Whatever. Most girls got their boyfriends, teammates, or siblings to bid on their baskets. Lucy reluctantly painted “You WILL win my basket” on the front of hers so that nobody but Will would put up cash for it; Sadie made her basket bright orange (Daniel’s favorite color) so that he wouldn’t miss it. And Steph painted hers in periwinkle, her signature shade, so Sam would know exactly what to look for. And he did.
It’s just that Sam wasn’t the problem.
For every dollar and every cent Sam bid, Katie Sheehan went higher. Steph watched as Sam became more and more flustered. He kept opening up his wallet, expecting more money to appear in its sleeves, but it never did. Katie kept bidding. And bidding. And finally, when she reached 103 dollars, Mrs. Connolly shouted, “SOLD!”
Katie Sheehan, an awkward ginger sophomore girl, was the winner of Steph Armstrong’s senior picnic basket.
Later, when they sat down for an uncomfortable lunch together, Steph asked why Katie went so far to bid on her basket.
“Like, I know your mom’s real rich and all that, so I’m not asking how you had the money,” Steph said, picturing Gloria Sheehan’s chain of local preschools in her head. “I guess I’m just asking … why spend all that money on my basket?”
Katie shrugged like she had a secret answer (and both girls knew she did).
“I heard from Lizzy Blossom that you make a really good strawberry cheesecake,” she said. “I figured I had to find out.”
Steph remembers how she smiled and took the little cheesecake out of the basket. She handed a plastic fork to Katie with a big goofy grin on her face.
“Well, get ready,” she said. “You’re about to be blown away.”
These days, after seven years of being married, Steph and Katie laugh about their accidental-on-purpose first date. They tell each other it wasn’t as awkward as it felt, but they both know they’re lying – out of love, out of nostalgia, out of quiet respect.
“I think I knew I liked you,” Steph says. “Even before I knew I liked you. Of course, if I hadn’t, I probably wouldn’t have taken you up to my room once we were both at CMU.”
“No kidding,” Katie says. “I knew I liked you.”
“You don’t say.”
Katie laughs and kisses Steph just like she wanted to on the basket bidding day. It’s nice, she thinks, to be able to do it now. In the midst of the kiss, Steph feels the same.

Central Michigan is home to the Chippewas, but in the case of this 2013 mid-season squad, the “C’s!” Honey mustard and Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce may be a delicious cracker topper, but advertising on the fronts of jerseys is more of a soccer thing in my opinion. I don’t blame CMU for mixing it up and using a 1940′s jersey throwback or whatever, but yikes! Antonio Brown must have been giving Steelers trade secrets to the Chips for this one. CMU does not have very good looking uniforms in the first place...more of a ketchup and mustard condiment combo though. To add insult to injury, CMU got dusted wearing these uniforms and Toledo’s Alonzo Russel posterized a CMU defensive back for an ESPN Top 10 one handed grab. I do think the Chippewas need more innovation in their uniform department. Since this monstrosity, black uniforms have been featured and I think it’s a step in the right direction. Sorry Mount Pleasanter’s, you just don’t have a lot to work with, and for that you get a MAC Fashion Don’t score of 9/12. (12/12 is the ugliest)

Introductory Post
Hello everyone,
My name is Will Ciske and I am a Junior at Central Michigan University. I am in the business school at Central and plan to utilize the knowledge I obtain at CMU in my career post college.
I was born and raised in northern Michigan, so moving to Mount Pleasant was not too much of an adjustment. I am currently living in Traverse City, but I plan to move back to CMU for the fall semester. I am a very big sports fan. In high school I played varsity sports all four years in baseball, football, and wrestling. I enjoy spending my free time outdoors. Whether it is skiing, golfing, kayaking, etc. as long as it is outside I am happy.
I am hoping to gain more knowledge about social media and effective digital communication. I have thought about starting a blog in the past, so this will be a great way to gain experience if I ever decide to do so.
One company that has a solid social media presence is Wendy’s. I say this because their Twitter page is notorious for having witty, funny, and interactive tweets to other users. This creates a more personable approach to social media than most corporations use.
I look forward to BIS 315 and all of the future blog posts I will get the chance to make.

Personal Introduction
Hello, my name is Jamezz (Juh-mezz) Kimbrough and I am a senior here at CMU. I am from the south surburbs of Chicago Illinois and I have a major in Sports Management with a minor in Entreprenuership. I play football here also at Central and that is my biggest passion. I decided to come to Central because it was a perfect distance from home only being about 4 hours away. Not too close but far enough to where It feels like a getaway from home. Also the campus and the people on it were welcoming each visit. Someone with a major such as mine could see themselves getting an entry level job working with a collegiate, minor or major league sports team. You could have roles in marketing for those teams, you could work with facility management, ticket sales, compliance etc. There are many paths within sports managemnt that you could take which is why I enjoy it so much. I am passionate about mental health awareness and that is something that I plan to dedicate a part of my future towards. I look foward to the rest of this year. Thank you for reading!

Hello everyone!
My name is Dylan Weller and I am from a little town called St. Louis, Michigan. If you have heard of us then you know we are close to Alma and Mount pleasant, so I guess you could call me a townie for CMU. I’ve spent my life growing up on the farms around the area and trekking most of the woods. I played football my first year of college but moved on to golf and recreational sports like boating, disc golf, and fishing.
I think I am an independent when it comes to the whole politics game so this past year has been a little quite for me😂 I have been told I could be quite to politician however, I guess it suits me since I am headed into the business world. I aspire to by an entrepreneurial consultant and have my own business here soon after graduation next spring. Through this blog I hope to learn how to interact better on social media and actually pay attention to what other people post. I’m not really electronically inclined, I have a hard time navigating it and answering my phone. I guess I prefer to be in the moment and enjoy life, hence my cover photo.
Getting down to business, I decided to cover https://twitter.com/budlight?s=21 because I believe they have done an exceptional job with marketing. Bud light has routinely kept up with current events, shows and trending topics. For example, the storm Area 51 event that was trending last year was ridiculous, but bud light took advantage of it and went to social media. On Twitter they posted an Area 51 mock up of one of their cans and stated that if they get a certain amount of shares and likes they would make it. They never got enough, given they made it such a high number, but it was still a great way to show prevelance in the beer industry. They consistently have ads and commercials that are funny and eye catching, forcing viewers to read on, chuckle or want to crack one.
