So, I was pondering about scars. Thinking? I don’t know. Anyways, scars in relation to the trio.
For Elisabet, right? She lived on a ranch, and if there’s anything I know about living with farm animals, it’s that there’s gonna be some bloodshed. Both yours and theirs. What kind of scars did she get in her lifetime? What lessons did she learn from them? I have a faint scar from one of my mothers chickens, and like, I know now not to bother a hen when she’s stressed unless I can help. (Also my mom has a penchant for picking asshole roosters, but that’s irrelevant.) does she have a burn scar from that pine tree she set on fire? What marks are on her hands from working with robotics? Did Elisabet learn how to weld? What scars did she get during the apocalypse? Did she come face to face with the Plague? What scrapes and bumps and bruises does she have and what did she learn? I know damn well there’s calluses on her feet, because you can’t operate a ranch without breaking in some solid footwear. Did she listen to the lessons about breaking in hiking boots or did she hike in them and bleed? Does she have calluses on her hand, even though I’m sure the digitalization of everything must have made that less pronounced?
Aloy, for sure, has tough feet. The shoes she didn’t wear as a kid is like the practice of acclimatizing children to be able to walk bare feet in order to get thicker soles and stronger skin. (Speaking of which, how in the hell did she not get tetanus or something?) She’s got scars from machines, for sure, like most everyone else does. Which ones taught her to dodge better, to balance quicker, to parry a strike at the right moment? She’s got calluses on her fingertips from bows. Little slices on her hands that indicate blade work? Do her shoulders have scars on them from those slamming attacks watchers do? Torn up skin fro where scrappers caught her with their serrated blades? Broken and healed bones from stampeding striders?Pockmarks and holes from where bullets and lasers hit her? Her palms are rough, because she climbs rocks and trees and probably buildings. Has she ever twisted her ankles? That scar from Helis, on her neck, that taught her the reality of death and loss. What other scars would Aloy carry? What lessons did they teach her?
And Beta, who was forced to live both socially and physically isolated from people. We know she didn’t meet the Zeniths until Earth, basically. Did Eric torment her when they did (this is based on the whole psycho “watch the fear in other people’s eyes as he killed them” thing the dude’s got going on). She who also ripped out that focus/tracker out of the side of her head unhesitatingly the moment she could after realizing what the Zeniths were there to do. There’s a giant scar left on her skull now Did that teach her a little bit about how brave she could be? Did that show her that the spark of bravery and defiance and good that lives in Aloy also lives in her? Is it a reminder that she no longer lives under anyone’s will? That shes brave and lovely and even if there’s a hundred zeniths, Beta’s worth as much if not more than all of them combined? Does it remind her that she’s got people who cherish her for who she is and that she doesn’t have to beg for a scrap of attention and love? Did she get splinters after setting foot on a world not made out of metal and lights and water?
I just think scars are incredibly profound to who someone is as a person and the experiences they’ve gone through. Physically, anyways. Emotional scars can be linked to them, but they’re usually harder to spot right away.
They’re so brave?? They survived so much and yeah they’re not talking about it but they’re learning to live with it and learning to both grieve the experience and then learning the lesson and moving on instead of just avoiding it like Aloy did for the year and a half ish from Rost’s death? That’s incredibly inspiring.
I think that’s why I love this game so much, despite the questionable usage of tribes and savages and a bunch of other things (don’t even get me started on that). The story and narrative is so rich and compelling in how they show Aloy’s physical and emotional journey and the differences in how people process their trauma and experiences and how that’s all okay, because that’s just how things are. It’s just. I love it. I love them.

MLQC Scenario - Animal Amity
The pet feature will show up soon surely! In the meantime, I offer you this :)
Featuring: MLQC Guys + reader
Synopsis: You two have finally moved in together but it feels like something is missing. How about a fluffy critter?
Warning: One is slightly suggestive das it
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Victor:
“Please?”
“No.”
“Pleeease?”
“No.”
Repeat another 300 times.
Nevertheless, the very next day, a furry creature was found cradled in your arms.
“Victor, come say hi to Victini!”
He almost got to the nearest exit when you sprung in front of him, holding a big, ginger cat aloft.
Victor’s eyes were a slight shade next to black and his glare made them even darker somehow. “Get that furball out of my face.”
You frowned. “Furball? You better apologize.”
He was already gone.
Ever since, Victini always stuck around you, no matter how much you stroked his back as you ranted about your day or a certain someone.
You just got off a call from that someone and the feedback on your last performance weighed deep on your shoulders. Not to mention the insults.
“At least you’re always spending time here with me,” you mumbled as you rolled the yarn back and forth with the cat. “You always listen to whatever I say without putting me down. You never treat me like an incompetent student.”
“Are you so incompetent that you don’t even know how to hang up a phone properly?”
. . .
The cat enjoyed himself very much seeing you struggle to come up with words to repair the damage while your face grew bright red.
“Is it too late to hang up now?” you muttered to yourself.
“If you have a problem with me, you tell me, not some furball.”
“Why do you have such a grudge against a pet?” you argued.
“I’m not considering him as the main problem anymore,” Victor said.
You grabbed your phone, ready to end the call. “Oh, now I’m the problem?”
He took a deep breath. “No, dummy, it’s me. I . . . don’t want someone I care about to think of me like that.”
Your fleeting anger subsided after his reluctant confession. “I didn’t think Mr. CEO would take it seriously,” you said, rolling your eyes. “Tell you what: I might accept your apology only if you let us keep the cat.”
“How about we settle this negotiation at Souvenir tonight?” he proposed. Although you couldn’t see his face, you could almost hear him smile.
After dinner, it was decided that the cat was staying. Victini liked sticking beside you but he enjoyed being with both of his owners the most.
Lucien:
Lucien had brought a bunny back from the rescue centre. “It has experienced unfortunate conditions during its time with the previous owner,” the professor explained softly as the bunny inched away from your offering hand. “It will be quite shy for a while. Please be patient with it.”
You agreed in a heartbeat. Your compassion and understanding for others never ceased to amaze Lucien. It reminded him of one of a thousand reasons why he cherished you.
The bunny was very quiet yet, everytime it entered the room, either owner would notice.
After a few days, it approached you. You tried to contain your excitement, in case your cheers would scare it off.
Slowly, you reached out a hand and the bunny rubbed it with its tiny head.
“Professor Lucien and I are going to take good care of you,” you promised. “You don’t have to be afraid anymore.”
It took a few hops away and turned to you. It did the same thing twice.
“Are you taking me somewhere?” you asked as you followed.
It led you to the study room where Lucien sat, reading a daunting, thick book. When he looked up, you apologized and excused yourself and the small animal away. You were brisk but he still caught the red across your face.
But it happened again when you were drafting a proposal and noticed the bunny appearing beside you with Lucien a few steps behind.
“A strange little guy,” you murmured as Lucien sat beside you.
“It appears that it wants us to spend more time together,” he whispered near your ear. “After all, it must’ve been occupying your mind ever since its arrival.”
“I just want to give it a wonderful life that it deserves.”
He stared at the rabbit thoughtfully. Faintly, he could see his reflection against its black eyes.
Lucien pressed his lips against the back of your hand. “And that’s what makes you the most precious girl I could ever ask for.”
Kiro:
After moving in together, getting a pet was one of the top priorities (not unpacking stuff, heavens no).
Agreed in unison: a birb.
Whenever you worked overtime, Kiro was very productive by trying to teach the parrot to say anything instead of an incomprehensible squawk.
“Say ‘Miss Chips’, say ‘Miss Chips’!”
“Sqquaaawkkk.”
“At least say ‘chips’, c’mon.”
As Kiro’s teaching skills improved, so did the vocabulary of the parrot.
He was so excited to show you his progress so far and he decided to present the performance tonight.
However, you came home and immediately started sobbing on your pillow. Only after hours the new episode of Miracle Finder was aired, the vile comments and reviews started popping up.
Whether it were the unreasonable insults unrelated to the content of the show or the critical, constant comparison with the Miracle Finder that your father had produced, the words pierced your heart.
Surprisingly, Kiro hadn’t read any of the comments yet like he usually would, but it was only because he was focused on parrot-training 101!
So he didn’t know what was wrong, but he knew it wasn’t a good idea to go on with his plan . . . Maybe it’d be better if he shared a one-on-one conversation with you and some ice cream---
“Arwk! Meezzz Chips! Ark!
You looked up with your reddish eyes at the bird inside the cage beside you. “Huh? Did you just say ‘Miss Chips’?”
The parrot fluttered its colourful wings as it continued squawking: “Meezzz Chips arh da most best, brahvest, bootyful lady in da yooneeversee!!”
Great, now you know all the words, ya bird? Actually it forgot “coolest” but close enough.
Kiro ran from his hiding spot behind the couch. “Just forget that! Sorry! I didn’t know you were upset. What’s wrong?”
Your shoulders were shaking and he was afraid you’d cry again. But the growing smile on your face told otherwise. You were laughing! You were hugging him!
“It doesn’t matter anymore. As long as I have my biggest supporter, nothing will knock me down again.”
Gavin:
So, er, Flyer was getting old.
The officers could hold a retirement party for a hard working police dog, but they couldn’t keep him.
Without thinking it through clearly, Gavin offered to take care of Flyer.
But wait. You never said you wanted a dog. What was he gonna tell you now? Does he buy dog food now? What about a bed? Maybe Flyer could take his place and sleep with you tonight. Just for tonight.
To Gavin’s relief, you were ecstatic to see Flyer again and nearly screamed in joy to have partial responsibility to raise him.
However, the relief was short-lasted.
After a long day, Gavin was looking forward to the usual greeting where you’d leap into his arms as soon as he opened the door. He would spin you around, holding you bridal-style as you kissed him on the cheek.
But today, he found you on the couch, cuddling with Flyer as you watched T.V.
As cute as you two looked, Gavin frowned. He should be the one cuddling with you.
“Huh? Oh, Gavin, I didn’t realize you got back.”
It was at that moment, it dawned on him that he had to share you with his best friend.
Don’t get him wrong. He treasured Flyer a lot. Afterall, they worked together for years on missions through thick and thin.
But when your eyes never left Flyer everytime Gavin tried to pry for your attention, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
Minor’s eyes lit up as soon as Gavin asked if he could dog-sit for one night.
“YeeeEEEAaaaa I won’t let you down! But why just tonight? You know, when I was a kid, I really wanted a chihuahua but my mom just told me to go get a job--”
“Thank you Minor here’s the dog if I see even a small scratch on him you will have to live on the moon from now on have a good day.”
When you got home, you looked around for a wagging tail. Instead, Gavin stood in front of you, blocking your way. “Gaavinn, where did Flyer go? I need him.”
Gavin pulled you close, nuzzling your neck. His breath tickled. “And I need you.”
You were glad Gavin couldn’t see your burning face. Little did you know, his wasn’t any different. “I-Is Flyer alright?”
“He’s fine. He said he wanted you to spend more time with me and to pay attention to me and to love me.”
When he looked at you, there was a glaze of desire over his amber eyes. “You wouldn’t say no to him, would you?”
