Saw yet another post that reduced Lan Wangji's entire character to Wei Wuxian’s existence, so I'm screaming here again. So many people talk about him like he doesn't give a damn about what's right outside of WWX caring about it. Like he cares about fairness and justice only because Wei Ying does, so he must too, because otherwise Wei Ying would be upset. It's literally the opposite! Lwj may have been horny at first sight for wwx, but he fell in love only when he saw the side of him that wanted to fight for justice and righteousness, to protect those who needed it. Look at Lan Wangji's face when they're releasing the lanterns at Gusu, and Wei Wuxian makes his resolution. Look at him and tell me its not the face of a someone falling in love.
Why does he go around helping those in need after Wei Wuxian is gone? 'because Wei Ying would have wanted it' is not the answer, at least not a complete one. Maybe he would never be able to face Wei Ying if he didn't try to fight for what's right. But its also the fact that he failed to do it before, he failed and it ended with Wei Ying jumping off a cliff. He is a man who fought a war on the side of righteousness only to realise way too late that it was rotten from the inside. Losing wwx is a huge blow not just because the man he loved is dead, but because wwx put everything at stake, including his life, trying to uphold the pact they made to be truly righteous at any cost, while lwj could barely do anything for it.
Lan Wangji was always so strict about the rules not because he doesn't know any better or because he was a teacher's pet or whatever. It's because he believes they're necessary for justice and righteousness! His entire arc is about his experiences forcing him to reexamine the rules that have dictated his life and the world he has lived in, and see if they are truly for good. It's him realizing those rules are not as black and white as he'd thought, coming to terms with the complexities of what is right and wrong. It's him realising how unfair and broken his world can be despite or even because of these rules, and deciding he will not be able to live with himself without doing something, however little, about it. How can you just ignore all of that!!!

Hi
This is more of fanon question but what do you think of stright boy wwx, who everyone knows he’s gay but him, doesn’t know his feelings even though he’s having sex with lwj.
And lwj still does shave sex with him even though he does think wwx is stright and won’t have feelings for him.
Hi Anon,
Wow, is this really a thing!? 🤔
I think they're reading a different book 🤣
Well my honest opinion would be that whoever thinks this really does not have much of an understanding of the characters in MDZS, or the plot for that matter. Whether this is something that some truly see in the novel or something they put in fanfic, it's just bizarre.
Firstly, only a few people made assumptions with regards to WWX's feelings towards LWJ. Really it was only the juniors who noticed something between them. JC was in denial the whole time (across both WWXs lives) until he couldn't deny it any longer - and even then he tried! Personally I think WQ noticed WWX acted differently around LWJ and at some point WN picked up on something between them as well. But bar that, most people wrongly thought the pair hated each other! So that's just wrong right from the start!
WWX is extremely emotionally intelligent, he understands people very well and that includes himself as well. Yes, he lies to himself and pushes his true feelings down at times - but this is a coping mechanism. He feels so deeply, his only way to cope about certain emotions that might bring him pain, is to play them down or convince himself they are different to what they are.
WWX is just trying to protect his heart. He lies to himself about his feelings for LWJ because to him, the latter wasn't interested. Yet WWX was still drawn towards him every time they met, because LWJ is the only one he's ever truly wanted. By the time WWX and LWJ have sex, WWX is more than sure of his feelings for LWJ! In fact just before all of this, WWX is so sure of his feelings he's absolutely terrified LWJ might not feel the same way.
So I think any idea of a fanon or fanfic WWX that is as emotionally dense as 'straight boy' WWX is, is just so far from the actual character, I don't see the point in them reading the novel, being a fan or writing fic using WWXs name if this is their take on him, as it's clearly not the character MXTX created.
As for LWJ having sex with this warped version of WWX, he simply wouldn't. As much as LWJ loves WWX, he would not have meaningless sex with him just because the latter 'doesn't mind'. Just looking at the end of chapter 95 and chapter 96, where WWX thinks LWJ has only just sobered up and is upset that they had sex. This scene should be enough to show anyone that this is not in LWJs character. WWX desperately tries to salvage their relationship because he loves LWJ so much he wants to be with him anyway he can. So he makes it out it was just something friends do! LWJ is so distraught at the possibility WWX didn't have romantic feelings for him, yet shared an extremely intimate moment with him anyway. How can anyone think he would just have sex with WWX if he thought WWX wasn't interested in him. It just wouldn't happen.
So again, I think that this fanon idea or whatever it is, is just so far from the truth it's just strange! Anyone who wants this to be canon should just go find another novel to read quite frankly!
It can take time to understand your sexuality and shaming a character who actually realised it pretty fast considering the circumstances, is just shallow and ironically makes them the "oblivious" ones they so often like to accuse WWX of being. It's obvious WWX would have realised his sexuality a lot sooner if LWJ had given him a little hint back when they were teens. Which isn't LWJ's fault of course, because people seem to forget he was coming to terms with his own feelings at the time as well! But if he'd given WWX a sign, he'd have been spurred on and pursued LWJ until they were a couple.
In WWX's own words:
"...If he doesn’t want me, I’ll bother him to the point that he does.”
Chapter 125 - Lotus Seed Pod extra, ExR
Although he wasn't fully prepared to accept what context the above proclamation was in, he still meant it! 🥰
I'm guessing you feel the same way about this obnoxious interpretation as well Anon, since you used the term fanon 😉 so that's a relief! Have a lovely day and enjoy the canon version of WWX and LWJ in all their true glory ❤️

Did DLS Out DD During a DDU Recording and Make Him Cry?
This has been making the rounds on Twitter and YouTube and even Tumblr, for a while now. Fancam footage of DLS making a boyfriend joke and then leaning in to a supposedly upset DD and trying to smooth things over.
Tumblr media
This whole thing is based on fancam footage taken during the recording of the DDU 20190825 episode. In this episode dating was being discussed using four beautiful young women, DD and QF along with two handsome young guests as a backdrop.
The subtitles of the fan cam present a scenario where DLS supposedly refers to DD as ‘not needing a girlfriend because he already has a boyfriend’ and then leaning into a supposedly emotional DD and apologizing, trying to calm him down; saying viewers won’t understand what was said.
Let’s take a look at the video:
undefined
youtube
The full fan cam footage that this out of context clip was taken from can be found here.
If you watch the episode and the complete fan cam footage, you’ll see that this happened during the segment where they were being asked to comment on various dating scenarios. An announcer would present each scenario in a multiple choice format, asking the women to choose between four options based on the type of guy they’d most like to date. For example:
How would you like the boy you like to invite you for a meal on the weekend?
A] Save your weekend for me. Do not say no.
B] You had breakfast at 7:50 this morning and lunch at 12:30. It’s already 7pm now. You have to eat meals on time. Why don’t I take you out for dinner?
C] I tried to explain my thoughts when I look at you, but I failed. So do you have time for dinner with me this weekend? Let’s talk about it.
D] Get out. Dinner.
My opinion
We should always, always be suspicious of anything that is presented without context. 99.9% of the time, when someone removes context they are doing so to mislead audiences. This clip is a perfect example of that. The video creator appears to have removed important context in order to make the clip better fit the narrative they’re trying to sell.
In this segment of the episode, the hosts and guests were seen commenting on the options as they were being read out. The comments DLS is making appear to be in response to something the announcer has said. I don’t think the comments have anything whatsoever do to with DD.
I also don’t think DD looks even remotely upset. Certainly not near tears. Some fans seem over-eager to claim DD is crying. We’ve all seen DD cry, but it’s exceptionally rare and only happens in very personal situations. This doesn’t qualify. It wouldn’t qualify even if everything the video creator claimed was true. DD would be more likely to get angry than cry in such a situation. He isn’t doing either of these things.
Whoever made this video simply doesn’t ‘get’ DD’s personality at all. The people who buy this are similarly unfamiliar with him.
I invite everyone to use your own eyes and your own judgment. Ignore what’s being claimed, ignore the framing you’ve been given of the scenario by me or the video creator, and instead just watch the clip. Does that look like a man on the verge of tears to you?
Second and third opinions
I asked the indispensable @potteresque-ire and @knivescharade what they thought of the clip. I didn’t tell them anything about my opinion, but simply sent the clip and asked their thoughts - are the subtitles correct, what do you think of the lip reading, etc.
@knivescharade
wow, for this person to put this analysis in i would say that lip reading is a very difficult skill. and to try and lip read someone like DLS, who speaks like a bullet train and doesn't really enunciate SUPER well (unlike Han-ge, for example) ... i would say the interpretation is only very vaguely possible at best.
i know both the cand int fandom have a major something for how WYB keeps swallowing around XZ, but honestly. WYB tends to get throat issues. i think swallowing has become one of his habits at this point. so... in conclusion... there are already lots of major, amazing, and irrefutable candies in the fandom already, let's not bother with such iffy ones :D
he is indeed saying that "this man has a boyfriend", but i cant quite remember which part of the show that was in. i watched that episode, it was something to do with love and having 4 guys paired with 4 girls or something like that, and listening to 'types of guys responses to etc etc' so DLS wasnt saying that WYB has a boyfriend - he was saying that 'this man', the one whose voice was playing in the audio, has a boyfriend.
That tracks with my interpretation of what was happening.
@potteresque-ire
Unless people have learned the dialect, Mandarin speakers cannot understand Cantonese, and vice versa. This is why I don't support or wash auditory candies, especially if it involves someone from Northern China (such as DLS, who is a Beijing native). Their local accents make their Mandarin even more difficult to understand.
This dialect restriction is actually not specific to a me, or other Hong Kongers. Someone whose family is entirely from Northern China would be equally prone to making mistakes if they're asked to lip read southern Chinese.
Lip reading also removes tonal consideration, which makes everything that much more uncertain. Have you heard of the Mr Shi Eats the Lion story? This is why, even if I hear some similarities, I'd hesitate to say X has to be saying ABC. Context is important.
Cantonese speakers are especially picky about tone. Mandarin have 4. We have 6 or 9, depending on who you ask. So... I may be more picky than I should be that way too. And I don't want to spoil anyone's fun 😊
The translation was correct in the sense that it was faithful to the Chinese words in the clip I saw, which replicated what DLS said accurately. But the video itself was from a fancam. Where that fancam happened (and got cut off) was at Q3 at the Q & A segment, starting ~9:34 of the official YouTube clip.
DLS said what he said half way through the voiceover of Option A (very precisely, right after the words "I'm the only one"). Technically speaking, therefore, he wasn't talking about DD.
However, it was also a little strange why DLS said what he said. If you watch that segment, all options have a certain personality attached to them. C was very talkative / pretentious. D was connected to DD because it was blunt and direct. A was the so called "overbearing CEO" personality... which is common in het romance dramas but isn't one that has been connected to the gay stereotype. And so, DLS's timing of saying that ... is curious.
Dd did look a little ... I wouldn't say upset, but tense after DLS said that. Maybe it's because that comment kinda came out of nowhere (because of its curious timing), and so it would be read as hinting at something. But that comment is harmless, wording wise.
Alternate theory
I’ve seen some talk from fans about a different theory for why DLS said what he said. Fans say the announcer for option A was Bian Jiang, the actor who did the voice of LWJ in The Untamed. They say that DLS was making a joke about LWJ not needing a boyfriend because he already has one. That actually makes a lot of sense to me as well, and if that’s really Bian Jiang, then I’d say that’s the most likely explanation for this entire thing.
Conclusion
It’s my firm opinion that DLS was not talking about DD having a boyfriend, nor was DD ‘near tears’ in this clip. Whatever DLS said to DD after that, it almost certainly wouldn’t have been ‘words of comfort to placate an upset DD’.
The Bian Jiang theory fits best, but we don’t need to know why DLS said what he said to be able to conclude he wasn’t talking about DD.
Cute DD candy from this episode
If anyone wants a better candy from this episode, look no further than when he emerges from “door #2″, chosen by one of the women as someone she’d like to date based on the food he’d picked out, and immediately launches into “I want to take a man back to my place and hide him.” A LWJ reference (which DLS and Wang Han clarify with him because they appear baffled by what he just said), but still a tactful, perfect rejection of this woman he’s being paired with. 😅

Plot/story idea
Here's story idea for The Untamed I hope to write one day - but if it inspires someone else to do something similar, all the power to you, just maybe mention me? :D
(The TL:DR - Fake betrothal to get Lan Wangji out of forced seclusion)
(And am working from CQL/Untamed verse, and trying to remember things right, but the wiki focuses mostly on mdzs)
Okay! So, just after WWX dies, we know that LWJ returns to Cloud Recesses with A-Yuan, gets beaten, then goes into 'seclusion'. I always imagined him in the cold cave where they met Lan Yi (is this canon or just my headcanon).
ANYWAY, meanwhile, news of everything that happened at Nightless City spreads to those who weren't there - for my purposes, Nie Huaisang. Who's been already upset by the whole thing till now, and suddenly his friend and so many others are dead and when he tries to ask Da-ge, Nie Mingjue refuses to even allow Wei Wuxian's name to be spoken in the Unclean Realm.
But NHS won't accept that - this guy's his *friend*, and he doesn't really have many friends to begin with, and he can't believe that WWX is the evil person they're making him out to be. There has to be SOME sort of explanation, right? And he's mourning his friend, sneaks off to Lotus Pier because if anyone else is upset about WWX being dead it must be Jiang Cheng, right? But again, JC is mourning his sister and still so ANGRY and doesn't even want to hear WWX's name. NHS sees there isn't even going to be a memorial tablet there and to him that's an absolute travesty. No matter what WWX had done, he deserves better, doesn't he?
So he goes out to have a memorial tablet made to honour him and is determined to give the proper prayers, but he thinks maybe, just maybe there might be one person who grieves and misses WWX too. So he fucks off to Cloud Recesses determined to see Lan Wangji, but when he gets there, the guy's been beaten for associating with WWX and is "in seclusion". So NHS goes to see Lan Xichen, who has a small child hanging at his robes (NHS never went to Yiling, so never met A-Yuan, so doesn't put 2+2 together), and uses his powers of being annoying to get LXC to let him see Lan Wangji.
So NHS goes to the cold cave (maybe was given a 'loaner' lan ribbon to wrap around his wrist so he can get in), and there's LWJ looking miserable and grieving, and NHS comes in and tries talking to him, but no response, he's being ignored, not even a "Mn". So he opens his qiankun pouch and takes out the memorial tablet and sets it up facing LWJ, then goes to kneel next to him and begins the rites/prayers (am fuzzy on specifics), and eventually LWJ joins in, and they actually talk, about WWX and how wrong it is that he's gone, and LWJ mentions Lan Yuan (his new adoptive son) and how he barely sees him - the seclusion is kind of forced by the Elders as it's part of his punishment as well.
And NHS is upset by this, the only other person who's truly (that he sees) grieving his friend is being done like this, and he won't stand for it. Because again, NHS doesn't have many friends, so once he's decided you're one of his, he will scheme his ass off to help you out.
He goes home, talks to Da-ge - doesn't mention WWX, just that the situation with LWJ isn't fair and he wants to do something to help. Long story short, they travel to Cloud Recesses together and Nie Mingjue meets with LXC to say "I am here to negotiate a betrothal between my brother and yours, and btw, he needs to be here for this and all future negotiations, and we'll require him to be available for visits and other events - oh, he has a son now? Then we'll need to make sure LWJ and Huaisang get a lot of time with the child..." etc etc etc
And it works! LWJ isn't completely happy about it, but he's keeping his protests in private to NHS, who reassures him he doesn't intend to actually marry him, just that it's to help him get out and see his son, damn it).
EXCEPT!!! There's someone who's been secretly falling for NHS for a long time now who's royally pissed off that he's engaged (and to LWJ no less, who's pretty damn awesome so who can compare with that?), and they get angry and eventually it will come out and NHS actually returns the feelings! But the betrothal! And... yeah.
Possible romantic interests for latter half - Nie Zonghui? Jiang Cheng? Jin Guangyao? Anyone else alive at this point that would make an interesting pairing. (I'm not huge on LXC/NHS myself but that could be royally fun to write this kind of thing with them for someone who's into it).
So there it is! I hope this has at least been entertaining, and again, if the idea tempts you, I'm happy to share!

JC stans always use the moment just after the 2nd siege to show why JC is a good parent because he yelled at JL about why he was crying and who made him cry and they blame WWX, LWJ, and WN for doing it but WWX and LWJ were trying to diffuse the situation and WWX especially was trying to talk JL down and calm him down to me it doesn't seem like a situation where JC actually doing much for JL and it doesn't seem to me like JC actually helped
Here’s the thing that I hate about that argument. I cry... super easily. It’s genuinely infuriating how easily I cry. I almost started crying watching the start of Night at the Museum 2 where they’re all being put in boxes, that’s how bad it is. I cry when I’m sad, I cry when I’m angry, my emotional response for pretty much everything except happiness is tears. And you know what the worst thing is when that happens? People asking me about why I’m crying, even if they’re not screaming at me. When you’re in public the last thing you want is Very Loud Attention being brought to the fact that you’re in tears! It only ever makes things worse! JC isn’t trying to comfort JL, just yelling at him, and in the process drawing everyone’s attention onto JL, who as we know is very proud and so would hate having everyone on that pier (including several sect leaders who already look down on him for being so young!) knowing he’s crying. Meanwhile WWX is trying to calm JL down; he fucks up because he’s not super familiar with JL and genuinely doesn’t know what will or will not help JL (which JC should but clearly doesn’t), but “Put down the sword first” isn’t an unreasonable reaction in this situation, especially given by this point JL has in fact stabbed him in the heat of an emotional response before and especially especially given the fact that WWX of all people is well aware of how badly and permanently you can fuck things up in the heat of the moment when you have a weapon and get upset enough to lose control of your actions.
WWX is trying to help JL. He doesn’t succeed, but he tries. Meanwhile JC is just... yelling at him, and that is not how you deal with a crying child. It’ll only make things worse, but JC doesn’t even bother to go over to JL, just orders him back to his side. I genuinely don’t know how people look at this scene and say JC is doing a better job with JL than WWX; at least WWX’s fuck up is based on a lack of familiarity with JL. What’s JC’s excuse?

The Untamed, episode 46 - watching notes
Full disclosure: I'm not in a particularly good mood today. Have you seen that "no productivity. Only guild." Meme flying around? That's me today :|
Hopefully this will distract me (though distraction was the problem in the first place 🙈)
I apologise for any typos you'll finde in this post 😅
To recap, the last thing I learned was that apparently, Jiggy married his own sister because Jin Guangshan was a scumbag who raped more women than he could possibly remember
I was told by several people that this episode is their favourite. No pressures or anything :D
The way someone is dragging up Jiggy's secrets has a lot of poetic justice to it. Everyone is outraged and gossiping. Consensus is reached quickly. Kinda makes me feel that that someone (who probably also wrote the letter to jgy) knows exactly how to use the sect world's worst qualities as a weapon
Yao what's-his-name, resident gossip queen, at it again
Don't look at me my memory is as bad as wwx when it comes to names :D
I was about to write who is Lianfang Zum again and then I remembered that it's jiggy's honorary title. See what I mean? ^^
What does it say about me that my heart makes a leap when I simply see wwx leaning close to lwj to whisper to him? 😅 I'll probably die reading the novel, that's what that says
Oh so it was the maid who sent the letter
Come on Wei Wuxian! That was cruel
Yeah Yao what's-his-name, why would you need to know the identity of who ever is behind this? It's not like you've ever been deceived before!
What's... with that bracelet?
I love it how everyone looks positively startled when Lan Wangji says something unprompted :D
Wait ... Zwei Jun is in his hands? Shit, i don't remeber what happened there. Where did Xichen go again? 😬
I'm so confused right now 🙈 I can't watch and read the subtitles and type
Okay, watched the whole conversation again, now I'm following
I reiterate my earlier statement that whoever is pulling the strings here knows exactly what strings to pull to get the clans to act
Great, another mob 🙄
Loooool
NOW you want his help? 😂
Sure, as soon as he can serve YOU with his "evil tricks", that's okay!
You can see how much wwx changed because he does not hold their hypocrisy to their faces. He mostly seemed tired of it
And Jiang Cheng just realised that wwx might indeed not be responsible for Jiang Yanli's death, didn't he? He's almost stunned 🥺
Or is BEAUTIFUL to see Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji move in such unity! 😭
Oh ... those are the graves of his foster parents, right? :(
And Yanli ... oh God I forgot about Yanli 🥺
I'm crying again. Nothing on this show will ever hit as hard to me as the Yunmeng siblings' fate
I couldn't help myself, I legitimately just stroked my laptop screen where Yanli's plate was 🥺
So many conflicting emotions
Thanks to a friendly anon, I know that these three bows together are marriage thing! 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
So yeah, they're married now. I dont make the rules :')
Somehow, this feels like them asking wwx's foster family's blessing
And now I'm imagining Shijie smiling back at them gently and I'm crying 🥺
And by God, I love lwj's gentle teasing :')
This whole scene, he's so soft! 😭
And it think that Wei Wuxian probably thought that he'd never get to step into Lotus Pier again. But here, he can finally say his goodbyes to his Shijie properly. He can heal! 🖤
And again, I cannot stress enough how wonderful that is! And how rare and precious in a show like this. So often character's get put through unimaginable trauma, but they either brush it off no problem or the show/movie ends immediately after the main action and you are left to imagine the number it did on the character's psyche. There are so rarely fantasy shows that really dive into the emotional fallout the plot has on their characters and then give them time to heal. Thus show does both and I'm so goddamn overjoyed my it!
Come to think of it, it reminds me of a very good hurt/comfort fic 🤷‍♀️
Jiang Cheng pleae, fir once, try not to be angry immediately when you're hurting :(
He still takes special offence that lwj is there. Makes me wonder if he still feels like wwx chooses lwj over the Jiang sect and is still hurt by it 😔 (note that at the same time, he reminds wwx that he's very much not a member of the Jiang clan anymore. God, the man has not worked through his own feelings ...)
For once, as much as I love it when lwj defends wwx (especially when it's not against any physical harm, but because he doesn't want wwx to be hurt emotionally) I think him interfering with this particular conflict does not help
Okay sorry, but no! lotus pier was not destroyed because wwx saved lwj in that cave. That was just an excuse for the Wen sect. They would have come eventually anyway
Ohhh
So there's my answer
He's still hurt because he feels wwx chooses anyone else over his family, which is to say him
And he probably can't understand because their positions are so different. The (future) sect leader and the son of a (dead) servant and a rogue cultivator who never felt quite like he belonged 😔
It's so goddamn tragic how much between these two was destroyed simply because they have such a different status in society and could never quite understand each other's perspective
And again, wwx just takes it 💔
Until, that is, lwj's honour gets besmirched
Don't fight in front of Shijie 🥺
Jiang Cheng's every action screams that he still loves his brother and that amidst all that pain for his lost family, is also deep betrayal and grieve for the brother he thought he could always count on 🥺💔
Tumblr media
Can we appreciate for a second how much this shot tells us? From Jiang Cheng's angry desperation, to Wei Wuxian's quite acceptance of his rage (which must be so confusing to Jiang Cheng and probably hurt him even more. Because fighting is always how these two resolved their issues!) to Lan Wangji who is in full on protective mode (which I find more than heartwarming, but still think probably isn't helpful rn)
He ... what?
I still don't quite understand when exactly wwx's lack of golden core shows. Why does he have a nosebleed here?
What?
Oh!
Wen Ning 😱
I get what he wants to do!
Have we ever seen him this calm and determined before?
Abd they understand 😱😱😱
The look on all of their faces! Shiiiiit
I'm crying again
Oh wangii is crying 🥺
Wen Quing 💔💔💔 I'm crying even harder just looking at her. I've MISSED her 🥺
Lan Zhan your FACE!! 😭
The way he's looking at wwx in his arms, as if he's seeing him fir the first time
And by god, I can only imagine what he must be thinking
He must be reevaluation every single interaction they had since wwx started down the path of demonic cultivation 😭
I'm a bit in awe of Wen Ning here and how much he must have been holding in. That's the steadiest and most confident he's ever been
Oh Jiang cheng 💔
Tumblr media
That looks like a man whose entire world has just been shaken to its core
And Lan Wangji is crying so much 🥺
God I hope he doesn't blame himself even more 🥺
Aaaaaaahhhh, so that is why he wouldn't just carry the sword for appearance sake and why he just had a nosebleed!
Jiang Cheng probably needs about a month to process all that :/
And therapy ...
Aaaaaaahhhh! The boat scene! I've seen gifs! 😍😍😍
Tumblr media
A penny for Lan Wangji's thoughts ...
Oh I'm so so so so glad that Wen Ning gets to say thank you to the man who raised his ... cousin (?) :')
Oh god we get to see!!!!
Oh little a Yuan 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I wonder now, did Lan Qiren know who the child was that his nephew suddenly brought back to cloud recess?
I'm glad that we all learned from this that keeping secrets from the people we love, especially secrets that concern them personally, will eventually come back to bide us in the ass. Than you for delivering that important lesson, wen Ning!
Which reminds me that I hope they eventually tell wwx that they know 😬
I swear to god, one of these days I will melt from the gentleness in lan Wangji's gaze :')
Shit. He had to be awake? 😳
You can pinpoint the moment Lan Wangji's heart breaks for all the suffering wwx endured and how close he came to loosing him even then 🥺
Waking like that in you lovers arms in the middle of a lotus pond - that's the dream *sighs* (minus the passing out bit)
It's weirdly cute that wwx thinks that it's Jiang Cheng's insults that have lwj so upset 😅
Oh GOOOOD ...
I can't
Tumblr media
The moment Yanli's themes started to play and she appeared I started to bawl 😭😭😭
And he's sharing the lotus pods with them ... oh please, lwj, please understand what he's saying. That's his pove language! His sister's food was how he received love and right now he passes it on to you! Please, please understand it! 🥺
Oh lwj, don't 🙈
Awwwwww ....
He's breaking the rules for you!!! Just to make you smile!!! 😭😭
And holy shit look at their expressions 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By now you should know that he's willing to break the rules for you :')
And poor third wheel Wen Ning 😂
Tumblr media
Now there are glittering butterflies???
Do they have some kind of romantic aesthetic bingo going on in this episode???
Oh okay, messenger butterflies
Tumblr media
Please appreciate wwx almost climbing into lan Wangji's lab in excitement :D
Thay scene transition was pretty af!
Hey! Why do they bully wen Ning? 😤
Tumblr media
*shakes wwx by the shoulders* DO YOU GET THAT HE LOVES YOU NOW???
Huh, this episode was a roller coaster. you guys did NOT exaggerate! I loved it to pieces. I'm floored once more by all the actor's performances. Wen Ning revealed a lot about his character, Jiang Cheng broke my heart, Lan Wangji made it melt and Shijie is still able to make me bawl in an instant. But ... I'm not left with a bitter feeling. Sure, jiang Cheng and wei Wuxian havebt reconciled, but the truth is the first step to even have that possibility. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are both healing and whatever happens in the last 4 (4!!!😭) episodes, I'm not dreading it that much right now. I feel like we're climbing upwards :)
@sweetlittlevampire @fandom-glazed @elenirlachlagos @allhailthedramallama @luckymoony @kyrrahbird @i-love-him-on-purpose thank you guys for staying with me for this crazy ride 💙🖤💙
Also one last thing: please don't tell me what happens differently in the novel in any given scene. I am still reading it (about half way through rn) and I'd like to still be surprised by stuff like first kisses and love confessions 💙🖤
I should have put something like this at the end before, but I always forgot. That's on me 😅 so don't feel bad, if you've shared something before :)

i dont want to upset anyone but this has kinda been bugging me. i haven't been able to watch untamed yet so it could be everyone is gushing over lwj's acts of devotion for wwx, but wangxian kinda feels... onesided. im sure wwx loves lwc and the same back but all i keep seeing is what lwj does/sacrifices for wwx and then wwx just... doesn't reciprocate. it even sounds like wwx is kinda cold to lwj at times but then never makes amends?? im hoping you can talk about this or know of some meta post
Nah I don’t think it’s upsetting, it actually made me think a long time about their relationship which is never a hardship for me. Well since I’m very new and haven’t read the book or really any meta yet, I’m not as knowledgeable as others would be, but here’s my take on it.
Lan Zhan in love is a paradigm shift - his entire life he’s been solitary and he’s really never let anyone in. But though he’s been in love up until Wei Wuxian’s death, he has trouble bringing himself to forsake his duty and he doubts Wei Wuxian‘s ability to control himself and not go all dark side. It’s understandable because even Wei Wuxian doesn’t know if he’s in control by the time he dies. A lot of Lan Zhan’s acts of devotion happen after Wei Wuxian returns from death. He’s had sixteen years to come to terms with how much he really loves him and his purpose now is to make it up to Wei Wuxian, giving him everything he needs or desires and ruining his reputation because he’s making up for his doubt with his big acts of faith, so you can see the turmoil and all consuming love because this man is going through an emotional journey and when you have a character that shows little on his face, you can feel the gut punch more when you see a tear fall or his face wrench in agony as he watches Wei Wuxian fall into the abyss.
On the flip side, I can see on the surface where one would think Wei Wuxian doesn’t have the same devotion. He flirts and teases but he’s never serious about it, he’s constantly getting himself into trouble and thinks he can always get out of it with a clever trick, he’s inconsiderate of the people who care about him and take care of him, and...oh shit, I just sounded like every person who has ever met Wei Wuxian. Let’s face it, Wei Wuxian is well-loved by a lot of people, but the problem is that a lot of that is conditional or he gets stripped of those friends and family and everyone, everyone, even Lan Zhan are not or cannot be on his side when Wei Wuxian effectively throws himself off that cliff and I think him doing that to himself can be seen by some as Lan Zhan not being enough for him, but as someone with depression and been in that dark place, it’s never about how much you’re loved but how much you hate yourself and note that he asks Lan Zhan to let him go, because he incorrectly thinks he’s not worth another breath and he wants Lan Zhan to be free of him. Despite his big damn heart and his capricious attitude, deep down I think he believes everything negative he’s told about himself and puts on an air of not caring because he cares so. damn. much. That’s why he keeps the depth of his feelings hidden, because this boy feels too damn much and he is always ready for people to leave him and sometimes he starts walking away first.
Whenever I ship a pairing, my main tenant in shipping them is this: how do these characters treat each other differently than other characters? With Wei Wuxian, I think it’s when he goes quiet and isn’t putting on a show for everyone. And what do we see in those moments? I can give you a lot of examples, but I am only using the first episode because I think it summarizes my point entirely. For this episode and part of the next, he’s actively avoiding Lan Zhan like the plague, but why? To avoid weirdness? To keep being shady without being lectured? Nope, it’s seeing Wei Wuxian in the quiet moments that tells us why. The first time he thinks about Lan Zhan, he stares at Yuan’s robe and has a flashback to the first time he saw him. Just that has him staring as a thousand memories form on his face and he sinks to the ground quietly before eventually collecting himself and pretending again to be crazy Mo. Damn, that was quite different from how he’s been prancing around and presenting himself up until that point. Then not a minute later we see him playing their fucking song in a dark quiet room and he ends it with another flashback of that moment and a softly whispered, “Lan Zhan” When Lan Zhan does appear to fight with an epic Guqin slam,  Wei Wuxian is hiding but is looking at him like he’s about to cry. Wei Wuxian’s love is shown when he doesn’t have an audience, just his face whenever he’s tucking a drunk Wangji into bed or in the tortoise cave when he puts his cloak over him. You hear it when he’s in his own head and he’s worried for Lan Zhan. When he saves part of the medicine Wen Ning gives him for Lan Zhan’s broken leg and doesn’t heal his own wounds. When he asks Lan Zhan to lie and let everyone think Wei Wuxian tricked him so he’s keep his good reputation. They’re subtle, but that’s what makes it a perfect complement to Lan Zhan and how they act differently with each other. Lan Zhan is a serious, stoic, and subtle man, so for him to do such blatant things is his way of expressing love. Wei Wuxian is a fun-loving, carefree and outspoken man, so when he’s being subtle or is taking something seriously, that’s his version of love.
In summation this is why I love the ending, because you think Wei Wuxian’s fears of everyone leaving him are real because Lan Zhan does leave, is literally walking in an opposite direction, but when Lan Zhan comes back? That fucking smile, that right there is all the proof I need of how in love and devoted Wei Wuxian is, because the absolute relief and joy on that face? This subtle and quiet moment? This gif alone is how I know Wei Wuxian loves Lan Zhan with all his battered and bruised heart.

Why the 'like' someone conversation WWX had with JYL was so poignant
Tumblr media
The scene where WWX asks his shijie JYL what it feels like to 'like' someone, to me, is a hard pill for me to swall. When I read it, it made my heart ache for a second.
Chapter 71
Wei WuXian, “Why would someone like another person? I mean that kind of like.” Jiang YanLi paused for a moment, musing, “Why are you asking me about this? Do you like someone? What kind of a maiden is she?” Wei WuXian, “No. I won’t like anyone. At least not too much. Wouldn‟t it be the same as putting a rein on my neck?"
There are two sections to this very simple piece of dialogue that really hit home to me. The fact JYL assumes the sex of someone WWX would like was just a heart sinking moment for me. It's not her fault, she's been brought up in a time period when heteronormative ideology was somewhat widespread and she grew up in a house with at least one homophobe - so she is predisposed to assume he only likes girls.
It's a sore spot for me - I'm not going to lie. I have been JYL myself, and I'm not proud of it. I can only blame my ignorance on my age and how rife heteronormative ideology was at the time. But, I still did this to my own brother and it haunts me to this day. I wish I hadn't assumed anything - but I did. I'm lucky my little brother didn't blame me for being so ignorant. At the time, my brother didn't understand his own feelings either. He just knew he felt different and had never liked a girl.
Now people could argue I'm projecting my personal thoughts into this scene - and maybe I am. But I think a lot of people have been in the situation above, when people assume their sexuality as the default hetro and they have a similar reaction. Obviously JYL's passing comment didn't seem to necessarily upset WWX. But to me, his answer is quite telling.
Wouldn‟t it be the same as putting a rein on my neck?”
He states he will not like anyone and it's quite a sad thing to say really. To me, this is because he's never actually felt overly attracted to a girl - he just assumes he won't like any girl that much, because to him he never has. He then covers himself by being silly and making a joke out of the whole thing, insinuating he'd be tied down and that would be a bad thing. We know this isn't how he really feels, because he had saved his first kiss for his 'one'. So the statement and his actions are very contradictory. Because of the heteronormativity he has been subjected to growing up, he is predisposed to assume it must be a girl he has to 'like' and because he doesn't 'like' any girls that much (or perhaps at all?) he has determined that this is something that will never happen for him. This is WWX pretty much confessing he's never had those feelings for a girl. Unfortunately he doesn't understand or realise his feelings for LWJ are of a romantic nature, because he assumes he can only have those feelings for a girl. I actually really feel for him at this point. Thankfully WWX doesn't put much thought into the fact he's never 'liked' a girl enough and as he's a romantic at heart, we can only assume he hopes to still meet his 'one' some day. (Oh sweetheart, you've already met him!)
I've seen a lot of people getting a bit annoyed about others claiming the above question is in relation to LWJ. Now I know it's not really, it's about JYL and JZX. WWX cares very much for his shijie and he is worried about her. He wants to make sure she is happy. But I think it is also slightly at the back of his mind, in relation to LWJ as well. But only subconsciously. He's just returned from seeing him after all. He'd got ghost girls to throw flowers at him in order to obtain his attention. He even just mentioned to JC that he saw LWJ as well! So you can't say LWJ wasn't fresh on his mind.
WWXs mind even drifts back to LWJ after the above conversation. After he reminisces about when he first arrived at Lotus Pier, he starts to think about LWJ and the happy times he had at the CR.
Chapter 71
Squatting in the yard, Wei WuXian put the empty bowl onto the ground. He gazed at the stars sprinkled across the sky, and then smiled. When he ran into Lan WangJi in the streets, he recalled many things from when he was studying at the Cloud Recesses. On a whim, he stopped Lan WangJi, wanting to direct their conversation toward those days as well. But, Lan WangJi reminded him that everything was different from how they were back then.
So, both before and after this conversation about 'liking' someone, WWX's thoughts gravitate towards LWJ. He even smiles about it! It's subconscious, but you can't help but think it's because his heart is trying to tell him something deep within and he is yearning for a simpler, happier time before everything was so complicated and tragic.

Hi, I really love your analysis and meta so much. The meta about the sandlewood scent is just so sweet.
I've just seen some put down lwj. They said along the lines like lwj didn't help wwx in his first life and just stand by the injustice. And they also said lwj and wwx ended up only because it is the end couple, and wwx didn't have any feelings for lwj in his first life and they go far to say how after meeting in Yunmeng wwx even said he met someone worse than jzx to jc indicating wwx didn't like lwj at all. I have lost for words after reading them.
I am really really sorry to bring them here. Since I enjoy and like your meta alot, I just think about you and wanted to know your thoughts on these.
Hi Anon,
Aww thank you so much 🥰 I'm glad you're enjoying my posts. I think the Sandalwood scene is one of my favourite sublet hints at WWXs deep feelings for LWJ. I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
As for your question - first and foremost, fandom is unfortunately full of discord, you're bound to come across people who don't agree with you on some things. Try not to take what they say to heart, especially when their comments are unfounded and rather ridiculous in my opinion. Some opinions are of course debatable! And other opinions should be respected as much as possible - but some are just people trying to provoke a reaction sadly.
LWJ didn't help WWX in his first life:
This is simply not true. LWJ tried to help him in his own way, but because of misunderstandings his help was interpreted in the wrong way. WWX finally realises this later in the novel while regaining consciousness after being stabbed. Granted LWJ went about trying to help WWX in what could be considered the 'wrong way', and by the time he realised this himself, it was tragically too late. He was under the impression that the cultivation technique WWX was using was harming him both physically and mentally. He was just going off what he could see. He had a very limited point of view due to WWX hiding a lot of what happened to him - so he did the best he could under the circumstances. LWJ inviting WWX back to Gusu was his way of protecting him. And when that didn't work, he did the only thing he could and stood up for WWX and the Wens during the sect meetings he attended. He even went against his own sect and the cultivation world to help him in the end. He was willing to give his life to save WWX, what more could anyone do!
WWX didn't have feelings for LWJ in his first life:
I've posted so much meta pointing out this is totally not the case. It amazes me that some people can't pick up on it. As I've asked before - if he was paying all that attention to a girl, people would instantly agree he had a massive crush on her LWJ. There are SO many huge clues WWX is head over heels for LWJ in his first life. I didn't even realise it was a romance until I saw WWXs major crush showing through from the start of the novel. As for the comment about LWJ being worse than JZX - it's bravado for JC. He's just come back from seeing LWJ and is feeling very rejected, he looks upset and JC picks up on this. He didn't really mean anything by it. Not long after he said that to JC he is sat looking up at the stars and thinking about LWJ and their time together at the CR. He wanted to remind LWJ of the happier times they had. And let's not forget, he threw a flower at him to get his attention originally 💕🌸
WWX and LWJ only ended up together because they were the "end couple":
I mean, this is just ludicrous. It's quite an insult to MXTX as a writer to be honest. She doesn't just throw two people together just because. She masterfully creats a couple that are perfect for each other and blends their romance into her novels seamlessly. WWX and LWJ were quite simply made for each other, in every sense of the word.
Overall, I would pay no attention to the person making silly comments. Block them if they're upsetting you and move on my lovely. I recommend a dose of the Cloud Recesses chapters to cheer you up 🥰☁️🐇

Unlike prev anon, I don't think that the absence of the Burial Mounds siege in CQL really makes JC look better because suddenly deciding to push your martial brother off a cliff after the death of your sister who died to save him doesn't make JC more sympathetic, he's directly causing the death of WWX while at least in the book, you could finagle your way around it by using the argument that the 1st siege didn't really kill WWX (it did make JC an accessory to genocide tho, so there's that)1/5
It's because for me, his act is really not all that unplanned, just like when he tries to strangle WWX and violently put all the blame on him after the fall of Lotus Pier, the gestures maybe have been spontaneous under the influence of strong emotions, but the feelings behind those gestures had existed for a long time deep down in JC's heart and just found their natural expression in that particular scene at that particular moment. JYL's spontaneous action when WWX was at risk of being2/5
stabbed was to throw herself in the way of the blade, LWJ's was to catch WWX, never mind that his wounded arm had to take the full weight of a man, and if shock made JC take stupid decisions he'll regret later, if he really loved WWX, JC might as well have decided to fight all the assembled cultivators to protect the man JYL died for or something else equally rash. But he didn't, because by that time, he was already pretty much hating WWX and JYL's death was the last straw (ironically, her3/5
sacrifice made WWX even less deserving of living in JC's eyes). CQL did soften JC's character by removing some of his most callous lines and just by the fact that JC is played by a beautiful actor who spends half of his time looking stylishly sad when he's not bawling his eyes out, which automatically generates more sympathy. Adding the WQ love story was a mixed bag imo because on one side, it made him look less like a Wen hater on principle and more like a very inadequate and cowardly4/5
leader, unable to stand up even for the woman he professes to love, but on the other side, we got that scene in prison where he's like hey, so I totally support the wholesale massacre of your relatives, including your brother, but you still down for marrying me? JC, do you want a black cape and a villainous laugh to go with those lines?5/5
Oh, it definitely doesn’t look good for JC that his instinctive reaction to his sister sacrificing her life for their brother is to kill said brother at the first opportunity. What it does do is offer some sense of legitimacy to the whole “JC killed his brother in his unrestrained grief and then spent the next 13/16 years regretting it!” argument. Not much, we’re still talking about the guy who murdered his brother, spent the time he was dead torturing anyone who reminded him of him to death, and tried to kill him again as soon as he came back, but... you know.
The WQ story was... a whole thing. It was genuinely cute at first! When they’re in Cloud Recesses, and even the Wen indoctrination camp, it’s JC being hopelessly in love with someone waaaaaaaaay out of his league and trying to woo her! And failing, because WQ clearly has no interest in him, but it’s all very courtly and sweet. And then... well, as you say, he’s fully supportive of murdering her entire family down to the youngest child but still wants her to marry him and is upset when she gives back the symbol of that offer and essentially tells him to fuck off. The only way that scene with her returning the comb could be better is if she came straight out and said that since he would clearly never offer her family his support and protection she’d rather die with them than marry him and live while her new husband slaughters them. Because it’s clear that regardless of any feelings she may have had for JC (I personally don’t think there were any, I think she only accepted the comb because she thought the offer of a sect leader’s protection might come in handy until she realized any protection he’d give would require her to abandon her family, hence why she gave it back instead of keeping it as a memento or even selling it), it was the idea that he wanted her to watch her family die from her safe, cushy place in Lotus Pier that really turned her off marrying him. That and probably one question: If he was willing to let the brother he grew up with die rather than defend innocents, what would it take before he abandoned his Wen wife?
