Hubble Sees Possible Runaway Black Hole Creating a Trail of Stars
There's an invisible monster on the loose, barreling through intergalactic space so fast that if it were in our solar system, it could travel from Earth to the Moon in 14 minutes. This supermassive black hole, weighing as much as 20 million Suns, has left behind a never-before-seen 200,000-light-year-long "contrail" of newborn stars, twice the diameter of our Milky Way galaxy. It's likely the result of a rare, bizarre game of galactic billiards among three massive black holes.
The black hole lies at one end of the column, which stretches back to its parent galaxy. There is a remarkably bright knot of ionized oxygen at the outermost tip of the column. Researchers believe gas is probably being shocked and heated from the motion of the black hole hitting the gas, or it could be radiation from an accretion disk around the black hole. "Gas in front of it gets shocked because of this supersonic, very high-velocity impact of the black hole moving through the gas. How it works exactly is not really known," said van Dokkum.
This intergalactic skyrocket is likely the result of multiple collisions of supermassive black holes. Astronomers suspect the first two galaxies merged perhaps 50 million years ago. That brought together two supermassive black holes at their centers. They whirled around each other as a binary black hole.

A team of international experts, renowned for debunking several black hole discoveries, have found a stellar-mass black hole in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a neighbour galaxy to our own. Moreover, they found that the star that gave rise to the black hole vanished without any sign of a powerful explosion. The discovery was made thanks to six years of observations obtained with the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO’s) Very Large Telescope (VLT).
This animation shows what the binary system VFTS 243 might look like if we were observing it up close and at an inclination different from that we see from Earth. The system is composed of a hot, blue star with 25 times the Sun’s mass and a black hole, which is at least nine times the mass of the Sun. The sizes of the two binary components are not to scale: in reality, the blue star is about 200 000 times larger than the black hole.

Stars are suns which have each one an entire unique system. Different planets, moons, asteroids and the most various celestial bodies, that probably have already been through several eclipses and planet alignments. Each one at a different distance from different black holes, nebulosas, quasars. However, when we look to the sky at night, even if we disregard all the luminous pollution and the clouds that sometimes block our sigh, all we see is a little luminous dot. Millions of light years away, we can’t even imagine all the beauty, the lives, the ecosystems, the elements, the beings that surround that little star, or everything that it's been through, the celestial bodies that were destroyed and the matters that were reconstituted to it’s system to be how it is now.
That’s how humans are: uniques, different, complex, unknown. We’ll never truly see the light of each star or will know all their singularities.
My purpose here is to make my texts, poems and stories as a telescope that allows you to get a little bit closer to the star that I have inside me. To share with the universe the light that is, sometimes, way too hot for me to hold it alone.
