Brian Aubert's singing voice is true goals for me. I have absolute gender envy.

i got tagged by @marxism-transgenderism to list 5 songs ive had on repeat lately :3 (and because no one can stop me im gonna say things about them too)
Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups
while i dont love Swoon, i think this song really embodies the concept of the album as a breakdown in musical form. it feels frenetic and the way the bass and drum play together as a heartbeat that insists itself upon you in between the bouts of panic and doubt conveyed in the vocals. also i wish i had brian auberts voice
Duvet by Bôa
i love how rich and bittersweet this song is, its warm like a familiarity that could have been. it feels enveloping yet tired, and while the emotion cuts deep its not overwhelming. that said i wish it were less associated with lain, not out of any failure of lain, but more just so that it could stand on its own and not be oh thats the lain op
Sirens and Satellites by SPC ECO
this is the fancam/amv/etc of all time. to me. also just a song thats very diagnostic of my taste in music, its subsuming in the best way and it leans a lot on the vocals as an instrument. also the very last seconds of it remind me of the floor transition noise in binding of isaac
Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins
as much as billy corgan sucks this song haunts me in just the way its supposed to. it puts me right back to when i used to be that little boy sitting in a car that’s too hot, with what i now know is a mild headache, going with my brother to his slp appointments and feeling almost the same as i do about the song now but with no thoughts as to why
Do the Evolution by Pearl Jam
its wild how this was written for/about y2k and people’s obsession with technology in a way that hasnt changed since. also rewatching the music video reminded me of a phrase of all time: ‘for the dilbert generation’. also the personification of death is transgender
im gonna @anightlikethis1985 @cobain @telekinetic @pakrat1237 @mithli if they wanna do this too :3

the acoustic 'grunge/post-grunge/butt-rock' sound; mtv unplugged; or, how to sound like you're performing at a shitty local amphitheater while singing a decently emotive song, embedding yourself into a child who will grow up to become a somewhat self styled 'student of butt-rock'
double tracked to hell and back acoustic guitars, preferably some twelve string action in there too. something really pretty and with a lot of movement when arpeggiated, the original version of the song may already have this. you also have to have a second guy whose whole purpose is to noodle during the choruses.
very boomy electric bass or an acoustic electric bass (side note it's very funny that the electric bass originally was an adaptation of the double bass and then had an acoustic instrument made based upon it. get plato in here, he'll love the formwork happening at this moment)
BUY YOUR DRUMMER RUTE STICKS. I CANNOT UNDERSTATE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RUTE STICK DRUMS. IT IS IMPORTANT SO DO IT. DO NOT USE CYMBALS, OR USE THEM VERY SPARINGLY. make sure to not come in until at least the second verse, maybe even hold off to the second chorus if you want to do a really hype buildup. and make sure to put five pillows in your kick
tell the vocalist to really nasalize his vowels and then beyond that just imagine the guy from creed or the goo goo dolls, maybe if you're a bit of a fruity band you'll tell him to think of billy corgan or brian aubert. you may want an approximation of southern drawl, like how kid rock is an approximation of a real live hollywood cowboy.

Silversun Pickups: Mean Spirits
God, I cannot get enough of Brian Aubert's voice. He could sing the text of my Public Relations textbook and I would vote up every track he put on the Silversun Pickups' new album that consisted of it...and openly support Pitchfork's decision to give it a 8.5 out of 10. This song is something to be blasted from your record player at your house on October 19 at 8:30 PM.
Song Score: 1600/10

Silversun Pickups — Brian Aubert (vocals, guitar, keys). Nikki Monniger (bass, vocals), Chis Guano (drums, percussion, programming, vocals) and Joe Lester (keys, samples, sound manipulation, guitar and vocals) — released their Butch Vig-produced, sixth album Physical Thrills earlier this year. The album’s material came together serendipitously during a particularly dark period: The acclaimed Los…
