Jules Joseph Lefebvre (French, 1836 - 1911) Portrait of Julia Foster Ward, 1880

Lefebvre is noted for his historical and allegorical paintings. However, he considered portraits as important as history paintings. Between 1855 and 1898, Lefebvre exhibited 72 portraits, including this one, at the Paris Salon.

Born in 1857, Julia Ward was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Seeley Ward. She is shown in three-quarter profile in richly embroidered classically-inspired garb: note the skillfully-rendered golden threads at her shoulders. This is likely a posthumous portrait commissioned by her parents after her death in 1878. The crown of morning glories may reference the brevity of her life: the flowers bloom and die within a single day.

all the other posts are reminiscent of 2014 "pale blogs", full of "ballet aesthetic" adjacent images, very pale thin women's bodies / exploitative model photography, childish anime girls in sexy poses with meme text over them, and text posts from op talking about dieting and skincare: 🙁

Well of course I cannot watch a TV series and browse its Tumblr tag without half of the posts being just people shipping characters with each other.

Gosh. Is nothing on this website ship-free? I just wanna see nice, neutral, canon gifs and not people's headcanons of ships. I'm not interested in those. I'm watching the series for the series...

#yes this is also an aroace rant #I haven't finished the series yet so I don't know how it ends but I HOPE it doesn't end like 99% of teen series do #hopefully that's another relatable character not interested in relationships and not being 'cured' by amatonormative relationships #but I've so gotten used to getting disappointed with medias that I won't be surprised but I will be annoyed if this one also #has a stereotypical and cliché end where cishet relationships cure everything and the world is beautiful again.#I just want to watch a story - can't anyone make at least one without a romance subplot.#so far so good and I hope it will go like that until the end.#which gets us again to the annoying shippy art on tumblr.com which is almost impossible to avoid and filter out.#mcrmadness venting
