Sophonts for a shiny new project ✨ Beatha (bay-ha) ✨, an alternate earth set a couple thousand years ago
The first species (green bg), Lau, are offshoots of Indriidae and are most closely related to sifakas. They originate in Madagascar but now occupy most of the continent of Africa.
The second (yellow bg) are a species of wallaby (yet to be named). They originate in the East coast of Australia, now occupying most of the country as well as most of Asia and some Pacific Islands. They are the earliest sophonts.
Finally, the Kepa-ka-o-o, an ancient relative of corvids. They originate in Aotearoa, with many relatives across the Pacific Islands which they now also live across. They have many colonies in Australia and Asia, having a close relationship with the wallaby sophont.
Despite the distance, it's not uncommon to see Lau living in Asia and Oceania and vice versa. The Americas and Europe aren't completely untouched but they don't hold very large populations of the three sophonts due to their mostly colder climate which is not preferred, however there are colonies quickly growing in South America in particular.

#OTD in 1608 – Sir Thomas Phillipps was granted a license by James I to the Old Bushmills distillery in Co Antrim, which is thought to date from at least 1276 – the oldest distillery in the world.
Uisce beatha is the name for whiskey in the Irish language. The word “whiskey” itself is simply an anglicised version of this phrase, stemming from a mispronunciation of the word uisce. This may in turn have influenced the Modern Irish word fuisce (“whiskey”). The phrase uisce beatha, literally “water of life”, was the name given by Irish monks of the early Middle Ages to distilled alcohol. It is…

Honestly because the gravity/atmospheric pressure is slightly less, and oxygen content slightly more, on Beatha than it is on Earth, Vali would be really fucking struggling his first few weeks, months on Earth. Flying would go from being the most obvious mode of transport to something he only does in an emergency. He would be exhausted,,,so tired,,,and probs in pain a little bit too??? His joints, bones and muscles for sure would not be happy being exposed to increased gravitational pressure. He would walk around like he carrying a rock on his shoulders for the first few months. But after a while of living on earth and developing his musculature to account for the increased gravity, he might come back to Beatha and be like. Absurdly strong, even by Dokkalfar standards. Eventually it would go away unless he worked really hard to maintain that, but yeah....I did a workout program on earth and now I can kick everyone's ass

ᚦ Answered Ask Meme: The Last of Us (Show Starters) ᚦ ᚦ @jienkora asked: ❝ so…is it everything you hoped for? ❞ ᚦ ᚦ Ask box is open! ᚦ ------ ᚦ Caleb's head lifted from the book he had been reading, his eyebrows raising in surprise at her question that broke the comfortable silence between them. They hadn't long arrived back in Alba and being back on his homeland both felt familiar but also strange. A lot of those he had left behind had passed on, his immortality beginning to truly show now that he was outliving those he grew up with. If it hadn't been for Ziencora, he would still be living alone in a small cabin, shunned by his fellow villagers and friends and unable to control what he had forcefully become. The Rogue Drakkin blood coursing through his veins had ruined his life at one point, but now it seemed to help him in his current situation and it helped him find the being that he had gained such a connection with. "It's the same but different... if that makes any sense." He spoke up, placing the bird feather he used as a bookmark between his book pages before closing it over. "Did you expect to come back here with only myself?" He then questioned, his head tilting as he scanned his eyes over her features. He had mentioned coming back to his homeland and expected it to be alone, despite how close he and Ziencora had grown and despite them revealing their feelings towards one another. She had been travelling with Drako, Crowa and Alacard longer than she had with him and never expected her to part ways with them. Even if it was only for a while before they all met up again.

John (Johnnie) Walker was born July 25th, 1805, at Todriggs Farm, Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.
When his father Alexander died in 1820, he was left £417 in trust. In 1820, the trustees invested in an Italian warehouse, grocery, and wine and spirits shop on the High Street in Kilmarnock.
Even though his main trade was selling groceries, over time he became well known as the go-to supplier of tea, fine wines, and spirits. He sold all kinds of alcohol, including rum, brandy, and gin, but it was his own private label whisky that gained him recognition in the region. Most shop owners of the day stocked single malts, with inconsistent taste and texture. Mr. Walker, being a savvy businessman, made his whisky through blending, giving him the ability to maintain good flavour quality in every bottle.
In 1833, John married Elizabeth Purves, who later gave birth to their first son, Alexander. John was known locally as a member of trade associations and the Freemasons. A major flood damaged many local businesses in 1852, and reports show that his entire stock was ruined. It took almost two years to rebuild the business, but afterwards, the popularity of his signature blend continued to grow until his death in 1857.
After his death, the family business was taken over by Alexander. The country was at the centre of the Industrial Revolution, and with the arrival of the railroad in 1843 on his side, Alexander Walker created a distribution network that shipped John’s whisky worldwide. By 1862, sales averaged 100,000 gallons each year. The first copyrighted blend, called “Old Highland Whisky,” hit the shelves in 1867. This recipe is a direct ancestor of what we know call Johnnie Walker Black Label.
The famous square bottle and 24 degree-slanted label were introduced shortly thereafter, creating a distinctive look, and reducing breakage compared to the previously used round bottles. Many historians consider Alexander the real driving force that took Johnnie Walker scotch whisky from hometown bestseller to a globally recognized brand. Alexander’s sons introduced the naming conventions of “Red Label” and “Black Label” in 1909. Around the same time, the original sketch of the sophisticated walking man was created and added to the bottles. The brand website puts it best: “At a stroke, John Walker the Victorian grocer became Johnnie Walker, the Edwardian dandy.”
The company has continued to grow, of course, adding Blue, Double Black, Gold, and Platinum label Johnnie Walker to the line. Now among a portfolio of brands owned by a large international company, the whisky is no longer distilled in Kilmarnock, and the original plant has been demolished. Though the facilities are gone, you’ll still find the resilient, Scottish spirit of the original Johnnie Walker in every sip.
You can find the full story on the Johnnie Walker website here https://www.johnniewalker.com/en-gb/the-world-of-johnnie-walker/the-story/

i mentioned in some distant headcanon that laera isn’t the type to be domestic -- and it’s not because she doesn’t enjoy the idea of committing to someone -- she absolutely does, but being settled makes her restless.
the only verse where this isn’t the case is a verse @has-opinions and i have been working on ( even tho it’s mostly chelsea’s, i just sort of hopped on in! ). it’s a loose historic verse based in 1300-1800s scotland where laera’s story hits most of the key points of her dnd backstory:
she’s a lowlander, born and raised in glasgow, that was assimilated into english culture ( as most of lowland scotland was ) but through their religious institution. she stayed there for twenty years, and her point of entry in reconnecting with her identity and learning about herself is through eilodh and alasdair macdonald. she also rebels against societal gender roles, and as a woman, knows how to use a sword, and use it well.
regardless of if laera is from their original timeline from the first war of scottish independence, or much later on post-culloden, they will always serve as the focal point of her navigating a world she didn’t have the chance to grow up in.
needless to say, her relationship with alasdair developed naturally -- as easily and as close as she and eilodh -- yet with an unmistakable undercurrent of something romantic growing between them. his kindness, selflessness, worldliness, and strength captured laera in a fairy tale-like infatuation, and she fell in love with him.
her desire for stability and connectedness -- that extends to her culture, and inward, toward herself -- and likewise, her safety, to no longer feel the need to look over her shoulder... she’s at peace with alasdair. he makes her believe in, and want a life that’s beautiful, and she only wants with him. she is fully committed to the idea of being wed, and living out their lives together in the quiet peace of the highlands. unfortunately, though, it doesn’t come quite as easy as that, due to the macdonalds’ brush with ancient magics that gave them immortality, but part of the journey is overcoming obstacles, and for laera, to accept that they can still have a life together, albeit somewhat different.

When I first saw you on my dash interacting with some of my mutuals, I thought Vali was a canon character for a small fantasy fandom and I was wondering what show/comic/video game he came from until I read your page. Technically he is canon in his own way, but your lore and character designs just have a very official air about them.

omg?? thank you?? he is canon, in my heart...
