The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill imposing jail terms of at least 15 years for paying a ransom to free someone who has been kidnapped, and made the crime of abduction punishable by death in cases where victims die. Opeyemi Bamidele, chairman of the Senate’s judiciary, human rights and legal committee, told the Senate on Wednesday that making ransom payment punishable with lengthy jail sentences would “discourage the rising spate of kidnapping and abduction for ransom in Nigeria, which is fast spreading across the country”. The bill, which amends Nigeria’s terrorism law, mandates the death penalty for convicted kidnappers where the abduction leads to loss of life, and life imprisonment in other cases. Armed gangs operating mostly in northeastern and north-central states of Nigeria have for more than a decade spread terror through kidnappings for ransom, targeting students, villagers and motorists on highways. They have also killed thousands of people. President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has already classified the armed kidnapping gangs, known locally as “bandits”, as terrorists this year – but that has not stemmed the kidnappings, now almost a daily occurrence. बेहमई हत्याकांड : कोर्ट ने टाली सुनवाई, अब 18 जनवरी को आएगा फैसला, फूलन देवी मुख्य आरोपी

चैतन्य भारत न्यूज कानपुर. 39 साल पहले देश-प्रदेश की राजनीति में भूचाल ला देने वाले बेहमई कांड पर सोमवार को यानी आज फैसला आना था। लेकिन निचली अदालत ने सुनवाई टाल दी है। इस मामले में आरोपियों के वकील ने कोर्ट में पुनर्विचार याचिका दाखिल कर दी। अब कोर्ट 18 जनवरी को इस मामले पर अपना फैसला सुनाएगी। (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); बता दें 39 साल पहले 14 फरवरी 1981 को बेहमई गांव में डकैत से सांसद बनी दस्यु सुंदरी फूलन देवी और उनके गिरोह ने कतार में खड़ा कर 20 लोगों की गोली मारकर सामूहिक हत्या कर दी थी। इन लोगों का नाम जगन्नाथ सिंह, तुलसीराम, सुरेंद्र सिंह, राजेंद्र सिंह, लाल सिंह, रामाधार सिंह, वीरेंद्र सिंह, शिवराम सिंह, रामचंद्र सिंह, शिव बालक सिंह, नरेश सिंह, दशरथ सिंह, बनवारी सिंह, हिम्मत सिंह, हरिओम सिंह, हुकुम सिंह था। इसके बाद राजाराम सिंह ने फूलन देवी समेत 35 डकैतों के खिलाफ थाना सिकंदरा में रिपोर्ट दर्ज कराई थी। इस मामले की सुनवाई के दौरान फूलन समेत 15 आरोपियों की मौत हो चुकी है। फूलन ही मुख्य आरोपी थी, लेकिन मौत के बाद उसका नाम हटा दिया गया। इसके अलावा बचे हुए 5 आरोपियों के खिलाफ केस शुरू हुआ। इनके नाम श्याम बाबू, भीखा, विश्वनाथ, पोशा और राम सिंह थे। राम सिंह की भी पिछले साल 13 फरवरी को मौत हो गई थी। फिलहाल पोशा जेल में है और बाकि तीन आरोपी जमानत पर है। बता दें साल 1983 में फूलन देवी ने कई शर्तो के साथ मध्य प्रदेश में आत्मसमर्पण किया था। फिर वो 1993 में जेल से बाहर आई थी। फूलन देवी समाजवादी पार्टी के टिकट पर मिर्जापुर लोकसभा सीट से दो बार सांसद भी बन चुकी हैं। बता दें 2001 में शेर सिंह राणा ने फूलन देवी की दिल्ली में उनके घर के पास हत्या कर दी थी।   Read the full article

Anger should’ve been expected. Audrey was on the other side of this conversation for a long time. The psuedo-siren has to take a deep breath before continuing. If she had been fresh out of the labs, this could’ve started a yelling match, but this needed some more patience. And this girl meant a lot to Akachi and so Audrey needed to try.
