My Top Otome Villainess Manga

How long has it been since I last been here? I feel like I just woke up from my 1000 years slumber and am tired enough to go for another one. But because my last post was so successful, here are some very good manga that are my personal favorite.

1. I'm a Villainous Daughter, so I'm going to keep the Last Boss

This is an overall well-done manga, with a strong plot and great conflict to keep you interested at all times. Generally, otome villainess MCs feel pretty OP because of how easily they solve their problems, but it’s quite different in this title. The MC is very competent in her plans to overcome the hurdles, but the level of threat is high enough to create some balance. Romance is very refreshing and wholesome, because the couple generally communicates well, being very mature and harmonious with each other. The comedy is always delivered on time and the art is flawless. This manga is completed and rather short, seems like it’s just promotional material for the light novel.

2. May I Ask for One Final Thing?

This one can rival the previous one for the top place. If there’s 1 title you absolutely must check out in the post, it is this. The MC is a boss bitch, and it’s the first time I’ve ever thought of the word ‘stan’ and I’ve decided that I’ll never stop stanning her. If you’re not too interested in romance, but rather has an ‘eat the rich’ boner, then this girl will fucking deliver. The manga focuses on societal problems, the crimes and corruption of rich people, and it gives the best justice orgasm. It isn’t an isekai and the MC isn’t reincarnated, but that only makes shits much more unpredictable and interesting to watch. Art is gorgeous and will absolutely help you enjoy justice being delivered scenes even more. Currently has 10 chapters.

3. Bakarina: Verge of Destruction Arc

Another one very close behind. This is a spin-off of Bakarina, where Katarina got sentient a little bit too late, just a year before her doom. Original Bakarina is good, but HARD MODE Bakarina is my delicious hot cup of tea. The threats here are very real and very high, because not only that she has little time left, but she also has to repent for all the evil acts that her original self did. Mind you, that’s YEARS of harassing, bullying and abusing in some cases, so this will have a more solemn tone (I’m trash for this), rather than just comedy. The characters feel more realistic now that they’re not sucked into OG Katarina’s charms, and surprisingly, this version of Katarina is quite competent. Excellent art as usual. Currently has 8 chapters.

4. The Daughter of the Albert House Wishes for Ruin

Yo I totally thought this one was dropped but the new chapter just got posted today, after a 5 months hiatus. It’s about the MC, instead of avoiding her bad end, hitting the gas and trying to slam straight into it. This title is generally more light-hearted than the ones previously mentioned, but it does hint at the harsh reality of being a noble. The girl has a serious reason behind this, but it’s slightly weird considering her problem and solution. Anyway, after seeing her in her sexy party gown she shot up at least 10 ranks in my list. So please check out, at least for the beautifully smug and confident MC, which doesn’t come without an art style that’s just as gorgeous. It’s at chapter 7 right now.

5. Slow Prison Life

Unlike the other MCs, this one doesn’t have a good heart deep down. And by that I mean she’s an actual fucking psychopath. She can kill a person and is willing to kill a person. Like other psychopaths, she’s very charismatic and knows how to wield her power and connections to achieve her goals. Observe as she manipulates and infuriates her ex-fiancé into insanity. The manga is a comedy and her schemes after schemes never fail to entertain me. It only has 3 chapters and to finish the whole story, I had to read the light novel. The ending is pretty meh but this is a story that’s more about the journey than the destination. (And yes, also has stunning art.)

6. Of Course, I'll Claim Palimony!

This started out as my 2nd favorite, but has fallen from its grace since then due to better titles. The MC is very relatable with her bottomless love for money and economic mind, and the story revolves around her schemes to earn more money shenanigans. Other characters are also interesting, only that her opponents are too incompetent to even pose a threat to a 5 year old. Some of these later chapters fall into some cliché so I didn’t find it as exciting to read. But give it a try, it has 13 chapters right now.

That is all. Time to crawl back into my hole and live in ignorance. Maybe I’ll make another recommended manga post, which will include more quality works that unfortunately don’t make it to my favorite list.

Same thot decides to put malice on Katarina's words but Geordo tried not to jump in to conclusion, he immediately tried to clear the issue with Katarina.

‘My Next Life as A Villainess’ Anime is over...

SO WHAT NOW???

A lot of us are disappointed that Katarina’s adventures are finally over, and a lot of us are gonna miss watching the wacky hi-jinks of our dense villainess. I’ve seen a lot of people say that they will stop posting or paying attention to hamefura after the anime ends, and while I might be the same to some extent, I just want to say that there are still a lot of hamefura things to look forward to after the anime ends!

These are actually some very obvious things to look forward to, but you know I’d still like to share them so you can use them to fill the hole in your heart that the anime left behind.

The Manga

Hamefura still has an on-going manga that is currently in Chapter 3 of the Light Novels! A lot of you already read it, and understand that it can get frustrating when there’s a lack of updates on the english side of things, but if you’re really curious, you can go over and check out the JP releases every month so you can have an idea of whats to come for the manga :DD (The fan translation of ENG Chapter 26 came out a few days ago so you know it’s not dead!!)

I’d recommend reading the english translation on Mangadex, since most translation groups officially upload their translation on there.

The Spin-off (Hametsuo/Bakarina Alter)

It deserves it’s own category for just how unique it is in terms of its reception in the western crowd. I know a lot of people probably read it, but I guess people barely talk about because it’s not really that far into it’s premise yet.

I just can’t stop recommending this manga to people (despite not going where I thought it’d be) because of how good the art-style is and how much promise it has. It updates monthly, which I know is a long wait, but it does pay off when you see the quality of everything. Plus it’s just fun to imagine how hamefura would go if it followed the typical “villainess otome isekai” format.

I actually love talking about hametsuo, so maybe my posts are woth the look ;; w ;;

The Light Novels

I’m happy to read that a lot of people are gonna go switch and buy the light novels after the anime ends! By the time the anime ends, the Vol. 6 of the LN would release a week later, acting kind of like a replacement of what is supposed to be a new episode for that week.

The fan-translated version of the web novel is available online, up until half of Vol. 4, but I still recommend buying the books on bookwalker (i don’t know if the sale is still there, but I’d recommend picking up the book regardless!). If reading the fan translation piqued your interest, then playing for the books would definitely worth your money if you ask me!

An increase of sales might show them that there’s interest for this light novel, and might make them translate the JP novels even faster! (or maybe i’m just too impatient to wait 2-3 months for Volume 7 dshfjsfgs who knows?)

My only warning is that the tone really does shift post-arc 1 (Fortune Lover I) so if you’re looking for harem hijinks, from spoilers I’ve seen I think there would less of that and more of world building. (ps. please stop asking me where to read it ;;-;;)

Edit: Volume 8 is coming out in a few months, with Volume 9 probably being released at either Jan or Feb next year, then after that it’ll be a yearly update

StoryMe Otome Game

I’m surprised a lot of people doesn’t know about the StoryMe game, despite it updating every week alongside the anime. Just kidding I didn’t either lol, I actually found about this thanks to the hamefura reddit discord server! StoryMe is a choose-your-own-adventure otome game, kind of like those “Episodes” or “Chapters” game that gets recommended on Youtube a lot.

It’s still in japanese, which is probably why not a lot of people knows of it yet, but it seems like you can play as Katarina and romance anyone from the entire harem (yes, the girls too), so keep you eyes peeled for if ever it gets an english translation!

It’s basically the bluray Fortune Lover game with the DVDs, but instead of Maria, you actually get to play as Katarina!

(I’ll make a separate post for this later, maybe)

Edit: The game just came out in English in September 16, and just spat out a 11-episode update at September 30

tldr: go play it, it has 19 episodes out right now

Katarina’s Farm

It’s a newly announced mobile game with a web trial version that centers around playing as Katarina, trying to earn money and points for expanding your farm land, planting more expensive plants and getting the other members of the harem to join you! It’s a 2D pixel game that seems like it wouldnt take too much time to play (you can get the first 4 characters within 30 minutes of gameplay, but that might be adjusted in the mobile version) so I understand if it might not interest some people, but that’s still something to look forward to!

The Bluray Otome Game

While I can’t say this for certain, but maybe if there was ever an official english bluray release, it might include the Fortune Lover Male Capture Target Routes that are included in the game. Maybe someone will play it and translate it even! It would interesting to see how different the boys are, and give us further appreciation for Katarina’s influence and changes!

There’s a preview for a CG in Keith’s Route, which comes with the second bluray (no pv for Geordo ;; w ;;)

We don’t know if they’ll ever be released in English though, so hopefully someone translates them at least ;;w;;

The Manga and Yuri Anthology

Missing the hilarious and heartwarming antics of Katarina and her harem? Then you should check out the Manga Anthology (that has just been been translated in its entirety). It’s 14 chapters of absolute hilarity!

There’s also a Yuri Anthology, featuring the 4 girls of the harem! If you’re looking for more of that then, it’s an absolute recommendation!

Spin-off Visual Novel

Edit: They recently just announced a spinoff visual novel! It takes place after the Fortune Lover 1 Arc and features sexy pirates hgsjhgsdf

It’s just recently announced so there’s not a lot of info besides the company making it (it’s Otomate) and the fact that it’s gonna be an all new Bakarina adventure uwu

Bakarina Radio

I heard there’s a Bakarina Radio too, featurning the VAs of the anime cast.

I don’t know if its a regular thing or a one time thing, but its still worth checkin out!

The Second Season of the Anime

I seriously wasn’t expecting another season, considering how different the next arc is, but I’m happy nonetheless for more Bakarina! I hope this motivates the fans to continue supporting the series, as a bigger reaction will definitely lead to more content for us to enjoy! I have a theory about S2, which I think is worth the read :3c

Other Otome Isekais

There’s a lot of other Villainess Otome Isekai’s that are worth the read, and a lot of them as just as interesting as hamefura, despite the lack of a harem (from deep rooted revenge to hilarious and crazy villainess, there’s a lot!) The quickest recommendation I can give is just looking up “Akuyaku” and “Villainess” on Mangadex (do both btw they dont have the same results), but theres a lot that doesn’t get recommended so do your research! I swear it’s worth your time!

Anyways, I hope any of these fill the hole that the hamefura anime will leave in our hearts as we wait for season 2! (sorry for repeating the same line again hdsfgdjhsfg) Feel free to add anything like fanfic recommendations and artists, as I can’t cover everything on my own, as those really help provide hamefura fans with content :DD

Lady Claes at the verge of destruction

So! I can’t link to external pages yet! Thanks Tumblr! I’ve opted to just put the chapter here under a “read more”, but the link to my AO3 can be found on my tumblr. Please give me a chance and read (and comment)!

Summary:

Katarina Claes has (almost) everything. She has a gorgeous fiancé (though he does not have enough interest in her), powerful parents (though they don't talk anymore), magic (albeit extremely limited), and a skilled maid (thank the gods for Anne). Thanks to her noble lineage and earth magic she is attending a prestigious magic academy, where she runs into *her*. Maria Campbell, little miss perfect, a commoner with the audacity to give Katarina's fiancé heart eyes! Determined on teaching miss Campbell her place (and keeping her away from Geordo), Katarina and friends bully her mercilessly. That is, until one day when Katarina slips and learns some new information. Katarina will, in her own way, be seducing Maria, Geordo, Mary and Sienna (and everyone, but those are the most important ones). Who, if anyone, will she end up with? A rewrite of the Bakarina Hard Mode Manga (The Verge of Destruction Arc) in which Katarina Claes seemingly remains Katarina Claes instead of a sudden 180 degrees change to our familiar Bakarina. This is my first time writing in many years, so I welcome any constructive criticism or other feedback!

“Just what are those supposed to be, sweets?” mocked Sienna. Katarina, Sienna and some other girls had surrounded that pesky miss Campbell and quickly realized she was planning on giving some of her commoner food to the revered student council.

“They’re… I made them using the leftovers in the kitchen,” miss Campbell answered weakly. At least she had the sense to be docile when facing her betters.

“Baking with leftovers? Why, how very befitting of a commoner, wouldn’t you say?” Sienna said with a laugh, addressing Katarina. Katarina agreed wholeheartedly that those “sweets” were fitting for someone like miss Campbell, but even daring to think of feeding her lowly food to the student council was unacceptable. It was time for Katarina to teach miss Campbell a lesson.

She took a step forward and slapped the basket out of miss Campbell’s hands, sending the strange little pastries flying over onto the dirt. As one of the other ladies held miss Campbell to the ground, Katarina stepped on one of the pastries – perhaps they were supposed to be muffins? – and declared “Come now, I’ve made it much easier to eat for a lowly commoner like you. Eat up!” as her friends giggled. Miss Campbell did – to Katarina’s frustration – however just sit there, paralyzed.

“Hurry up and eat! Or, perhaps, you can’t even do that much without me assisting you?” She said mockingly as she stepped towards the light mage-

and promptly slipped as she stepped on a pastry.

As her head collided with the ground, she felt a stream of memories enter her consciousness.

Those memories…

A young girl, more monkey than girl, climbing a tree to avoid a dog. Sitting in a tiny, unlit room – perhaps a doghouse? – staring at a glowing screen…

It was all so familiar.

Then it her.

Those memories were the memories of her past life.

She had died at 17 after staying up all night playing video games and was now reincarnated into Katarina Claes.

How detestable! She, Katarina Claes, would never be so undignified as to climb trees! She could absolutely not inform anyone, least of all her dear fiancé, Geordo, about this mess!

As Katarina managed to open her eyes, she saw a pretty face looking down upon her… no. That is miss Campbell’s face, looking all concerned as if she is capable of an emotion like that.

“Out of my way!” Katarina growled, and miss Campbell fell backwards. Katarina was quickly back on her feet, thanks to Sienna, and gave miss Campbell a look that would make anyone’s blood freeze. “You stay on the ground where you belong.”

Still shocked with all the information being processed in her brain, Katarina hurried off, her friends trailing behind her, fussing and doting and whatnot. Katarina was not in the mood for their chatter, she had 17 years’ worth of memories to process and then forget. Forget, as she doubted there was anything even remotely useful in the memories of the monkey she sadly enough had been.

After she got back to her room and sent Anne to get the bath and a change of clothes ready, she allowed herself some time to investigate the memories of her past life.

She had been an otaku, immersed in manga, anime and video games. The last night of her life had been spent playing an otome game named Fortune Lover. She had been so set on conquering the black-hearted, sadistic prince Geordo, but the rival character Katarina Claes – Geordo’s fiancée – kept getting in her way…

Wait a second.

She knows this plot.

She knows these names, these people.

Horror dawned on Katarina as she looked in the mirror and realized what this meant. She was the villain of an otome game!

How could this be?! She was no villain, she was Katarina Claes, a proud, dignified noble lady engaged to a prince! Those things with miss Campbell was merely her teaching a commoner witch some lessons! Did miss Campbell not except Katarina to notice the way she looked at her fiancé or bastard half-brother? Geordo was Katarina’s fiancé, as courtesy of a wound she had gotten as a child, and Katarina loved him! She was not about to let some commoner steal him after all her effort, not even a light mage!

And Keith? Don’t even get her started. That bastard ruined her happy family, made her parents miserable, and then had the nerve to damage their good name by getting caught up in scandal after scandal. She was not about to let him ruin their name further by getting it on with some random commoner!

Maybe that is why she regained those cursed memories? To use them to make the choices that lead to her happy ending!

Whoever miss Campbell romances is the one whose “route” the story is on. Each route has a good ending and a bad ending. The four routes are Nicol Ascart, Alan Stuart, Keith Class, and perish the thought, Geordo Stuart.

Katarina never got to play Nicol’s route and as such as no idea what happens in it, but it probably won’t involve her. In Alan’s route, he either ends up with lady Hunt – his fiancée – or miss Campbell.

Katarina smiles happily as she concludes that must mean that Geordo ends up with his fiancée if miss Campbell fails. Though, come to think it, Geordo and Keith had similar endings, didn’t they? If miss Campbell attempts to romance Geordo or Keith, the so-called good ending involves Katarina Claes being accused of “bullying” miss Campbell and then getting exiled. In miss Campbell’s bad ending… Katarina attacks her and is murdered by miss Campbell’s love interest.

The image of Geordo murdering her is not one that is easy to forget. She has done everything to be a good fiancée, a proper lady, anything he could wish for, and yet he would murder her for the sake of a commoner?

He truly has no love for her.

With the image of her own death burned on her eyelids, Katarina got a notebook from her bookshelf.

It was time to make a plan.

I’m sure at this point the spinoff can’t really have the harem that it used to have, but I think that’s still okay.

Using the same kindness to draw Mary in, in the same way she did for Sienna and OG!Maria is a great way to start their friendship! Though I feel like they ended up using a down-played version of what Alan/OG!Katarina did in order to gain Mary’s trust, in a way.

Alan told her that her green thumb made her special, and Katarina reassured her of what she was told that day while also giving her validation for all the hard work that she put into making it “green thumb” or garden happen.

What Alan did gave her confidence in herself, but without the constant threat of love rivals, it wasn’t enough to make her as straight-forward and thick-skinned as the OG!Mary. The spinoff never really clarifies why she is alone; if she only truly finds Alan’s company important before Katarina, or if her new skills and talents makes her less approachable. It seems to be the latter. The fact that she now has all these skills, poise and talents but lacks the brazen personality to carry all of them (so far Mary in the spinoff is very mellow in terms of her personality compared to what we’re used to) seems to make it harder for her to approach people (she never had to do it herself, Alan was the one who first talked to her after all) so no wonder she couldn’t gain friends on her own.

There’s also the fact that people has such high expectations for her because she is known to be such a perfect lady, that all criticisms and compliments sound the same to her because the people who mouth them sound like they are merely stating a fact without adding any emotion to it.

And that’s where Katarina comes in! While she isn’t the first one to compliment Mary for her green thumb, the fact that she looked so happy and genuine when she gave her compliments ignites something in Mary that she didn’t know she needed. Mary deserves to be praised for her efforts, and Alan might not be enough for that. Katarina’s praises makes her feel validated for all the effort she puts into what she does, unlike everyone else who just expects that to come naturally from her. Of course only Katarina, who’s trying to grow something herself, can see how amazing Mary is for getting her garden to look so beautiful! Everyone else might not even see it as a big deal and think “Of course she can grow a garden, she’s perfect!”

Mary might not mean it in the same way that Alan changed her life when they were both kids, but Katarina really did make Mary’s life brighter by being someone who sees her efforts (just like how Katarina is to Maria), wants to be friends with her, and shares the same hobbies as her, which is someone that she’s never had before until now.

WATCH ME RAMBLE ABOUT THE HAMEHURA SPINOFF

My Next Life as a Villainess! All Routes Lead to Doom! have officially taken over my headspace, and I really want a platform to talk about it. I’ve read the manga and novels over and over again, and I’m so happy to seeing the reactions of everyone to each anime episodes.

Though surprisingly, other than obviously the original novel, what actually piqued my interest in the series is actually the spinoff manga for hamehura, “I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags... In a Dire Situation!? Verge of Destruction Arc”. Yes, it has a spinoff.

(This might be considered spoilers for the spinoff and anime, be warned!) I just want to ramble about it and give my critiques, opinions and expectations. My words might not make sense if you haven’t read the spinoff, but I think having a general gist of the events of the original anime/novel/manga is enough to read through my vents and rambles. also there’s screenshots here so there’s that.

It’s basically the same plot as the anime, but if Katarina regained her memories of her past life during the events of Fortune Lover, within the school year, instead of when she was 8 years old like the original novel.

I don’t even really know if I’m in the right place to comment on it, considering it only has like 6 chapters (with the 7th one still being a month away) anyways and has a lot of time to expand and grow it’s concept, but gosh darn it, I want to talk about it!

I really really love the premise of the spinoff, and i think it’s much more compelling than the original novel. The novel wins by being more wholesome and heartfelt, but with the spinoff, we get to see Katarina play this “game” in hard mode” where she doesn’t have the connections that she would’ve had if she remembered sooner. There’s a sense of urgency in the plot that you don’t really have in the novel because she had already won everyone over before the game even begins. Both premises are charming, but this one really lifts up the concept of the title.

While I’d love to say that i’m excited to see this alternate version of the plot and find out how Katarina would solve herself out of her destruction, sadly the spinoff still follows the original material very religiously, preventing the spinoff as really coming out into its own (again, I could be wrong, there’s only 6 chapters so far after all but from what we have so far, it’s practically identical to the manga/novel).

I think one of the greatest strengths of the spinoff is that it would take it’s time in the Magic School because Katarina only has one year to put the odds in her favor, instead of years, so it means we wont speed through her school life like the novel/anime/manga did.

This is why my favorite part of the spinoff is Sienna, Katarina’s main underling when she was still the villainess of Fortune Lover. I love her because her existence provides a reason for the writer of the spinoff to find ways to insert her into the original plot, or to write new ones altogether in order to include what I imagine to be Katarina’s new best friend in this timeline.

Sienna’s existing can also be a sign of a possible future conflict regarding Katarina’s behavior post-accident. In the original novel/manga, it was okay for the snobby and spoiler Katarina to suddenly become dense and gluttonous, because she was 8 years old, and thus in the eyes of the adults, still had a lot of time to grow and develop her character. It’s still weird of course but it can be written off as such. With the event happening during the events of Fortune Lover, characters such as Maria and Geordo are obviously confused but her change of heart. Personally, I’d love to see her underlings and other students call her out on her behavior (especially since we are about to see the dynamic of Keith and Katarina in this timeline) because of how abrupt and sudden this change was. The spinoff tries to run away from this problem by writing off Mary and Alan as “not knowing much about Katarina other than rumors” but I doubt it, considering how much they would probably encounter each other in social gatherings and such. For them to not have an independent impression of her seems lazy to me to be honest, because not having an opinion on her means that she can act in any way that she wants and it can be considered as her being normal to them.

Because of how faithful this spinoff is to the original material, the banter that characters would have about Katarina feels undeserved, such as Geordo being possessive of Katarina during her interactions with Alan, despite not being interested in her until now. Bare in mind that at this point, Geordo had already met Maria (who piqued his interest during their first encounter, according to Katarina in the original novel) and only just gained interest in her fiance because of her out-of-nowhere change in personality. the banter between the twin princes doesn’t feel right when you factor in that he doesn’t care about Katarina enough (yet) to find his brother as a threat. To be honest, I wouldn’t even have this problem if the spinoff wasn’t so loyal.

This also opens up the question of how she will gain rapport with the characters in Fortune Lover. The spinoff pulled off Mary and Katarina’s friendship through their similar interests in gardening, but without the mistake of taking Alan’s in game dialogue, Mary has no reason to be attached to Katarina at all, and is definitely in love with Alan.

I mean i’d be okay if the spinoff writes off their relationship as just friends, but then again that ruins the charm that the original novel had (which is that Katarina catches love interests like she does with pokemon) which can be both a good thing and a bad thing (I don’t mind if they don’t have the harem, but maybe that makes it too far from the source material idk)

This is why I don’t want the spinoff to be religiously loyal to the source material! Keith’s introduction makes me nervous because there is absolutely no way that the spinoff can follow the original method of winning him over without making it look ridiculous, so obviously his route will have to be written from scratch. It’s not the rewrite that makes me nervous, it’s how similar it’d be from the original novel. The same would have to happen with Sophia (who has probably lived in fear and isolation without a real friend FOR YEARS), Nicol (who is intertwined with his sister), and Alan (depending on how far Maria is into the plot). From what i’ve seen from the spinoff so far, Katarina can still realistic gain the character’s of Fortune Lover as her allies, but they won’t be (or atleast might not be) as attached to her as they do in the original novel (like Mary and Sophia maybe)

My only biased exception to this is her and her maid Anne, because it’s pretty endearing to know that even the spoiled version of Katarina is still attached to Anne, so as long as they are together, she doesn’t really mind the difference.

I would really love it if Katarina could gain allies outside of the established cast, to emphasize how different her situation is now that her circumstances are different due to the time of when her memories return. I just don’t want the spinoff to suddenly make the characters interested in Katarina, even though she’s lived her life until now as a spoiled and selfish noble.

This brings me to another concern of mine: Maria, the protagonist of Fortune Lover. So far, Katarina has already won over her friendship and has forgiven her and Sienna for their actions against her after seeing their efforts to fend off other harassers. My problem isn’t really how quickly she got won over or anything (despite this already solving her problem of being accused of orchestrating her bullying that could cause her end just before the final graduation event of the game), it’s more of what she represents.

You see, what made all the characters of Fortune Lover so attached to Katarina is that she lacks the outlook of a noble, being someone who lived as a normal school girl before being reincarnated. She is a very empathetic person who is able to sooth the worries of the characters but literally not seeing it at all (examples being Alan with his rivalry with his twin, and Mary & Sophia with their appearance). She alleviates the pain and worries of others by being what they need. In the original novel of My Next Life as a Villainess!, the readers/viewers already know that her villainess fate is already thwarted because she had already accomplished what Maria was supposed to do during the events of Fortune Lover (befriend Sophia = gain Nicol’s affections / interest Geordo = gain his affection / differentiate Alan & Geordo = gain Alan’s affections / be a first real source of comfort and company = gain Keith’s affections etc.)

I can’t really speculate on much of the plot of the game, but luckily the anime dvd box comes with the actual Fortune Lover game routes of the 4 boys so I might be able to comment on this better in the future.

Maria is basically the same as Katarina (or Bakarina, if its less confusing); both characters are outsiders to the world of nobles and royalty, and it’s through their own personal outlook that they help and befriend the characters of the game. The spinoff would probably stick the two by the hip now that they’re friends in order to solve this problem, but it’s basically a race between the two of which of them can apply their personal quirks in getting the characters to ally with them. Again I can’t really speculate bc I don’t know the actual routes of the boys, but yeah.

For example, Geordo has met the heroine while she was trying to climb a tree with a skirt, which he has never seen before, while her also being the pretty light-magic user commoner, and this definitely made her interesting to him (Note: this is an event that occurs canonically within the events of the game, Fortune Lover, but is not presented as something that had occurred in the manga).

Now we have Katarina acting out of character and eating tons of sweets, while trying to salvage the dress of her peer after she spilled a drink on it, and this character change made her interesting to him as well. Katarina, considering her actual personality as time progresses in the story, is definitely much more interesting than Maria’s (I say that with biases of course) so Geordo would most likely find her to be the more unpredictable and interesting out of the two, but it looks like the only way (or what seems to already be the chosen way??) of writing the spinoff out of this mess is to make it appear like the Maria event didn’t or hasn’t happened yet, because while the original novel does state that Geordo would have fallen for Maria if he wasn’t already inlove with Katarina before they entered the Magic School, Geordo has yet to address his relationship with Maria. (yeah I get it there’s only 6 chapters yet jhgsdgfjsdg BUT STILL IT’S A LOT TO THINK ABOUT)

I don’t know what kind of dynamic Maria and Katarina would have in the spinoff, especially since you need to factor in Sienna, but in the original novel, Maria was pretty submissive to Katarina and would mostly just follow her lead. Maybe with this new friendship, Maria might not actively approach the main love interests (unless it’s by accident, since they don’t have to always save her from bullying Katarina and Sienna already try to solve that themselves) which gives time for Katarina to win them over with the quirky personality. At least, this is what I hope the spinoff goes for lol. (side note, it’s actually interesting to see what it’s like when Geordo literally only uses Katarina as a shield from other women, so when the shift from tool to romance occurs, i think it’ll be pretty nice to see)

To be honest I don’t even know what I’m rambling about, I’m sure I’ll love the spinoff regardless of what direction it takes lol. I’m just nervous because I really really love this concept an I want it to be different from the source material because it literally has the potential to be its own story (idk if this spinoff is even official at all, like I think it has the permission of Yamaguchi Satoru, but idk if its licensed)

Before I end this long ramble, I just want to note that i actual like the art style of the spinoff (illustrated by nishi) more than the original artist nami. I feel like this more simple artstyle captures the shift between Villainess Katarina and Bakarina more smoothly, while the original illustrations kinda makes it looked forced (mostly the manga tbh, the novel covers and art is fine). With nishi’s art, you can easily grasp that these two personalities are both Katarina.

Anyways that’s it, my hands hurt lol. Might edit this in the future.

Hello! In the spinoff of series of My life as a villainess do you think that the Katarina's sword teacher will become part of the harem?

Kai Gerran? Personally, I think somewhere down the line, he might just end up being a part of the harem. Though “being a part of the harem” can mean lots of things depending on the character.

We know Mr. Gerran is a teacher, but nishi’s simple art style makes it difficult to guess his age because he’s drawn in the same way as everyone else. Depending on the age gap between him and Katarina, he might not be like the other members that are interested in her romantically. He might be more similar to Anne, where he gains admiration and endearment towards Katarina, and is still somewhat considered to be part of the harem, but isn’t an active participant. I mean he looks quite young, he might be a new teacher so if he does pine for Katarina as well, maybe it won’t be that weird.

As of writing this, he’s only been on two chapters (Chp. 7 and 8) so there’s still a lot of gaps that needs to be filled in the story and in the new characters. So far, he seems to be interested in Maria (whether that’s a good thing or bad thing is left to speculation), and while he’s nice to Katarina, there still seems to be some tension between them on his side as their relationship is completely professional (i mean of course, he’s teacher).

I’ve always guessed that because of the circumstances of the spinoff, they would either force the original harem (the student council) to fall inlove with her out of nowhere, or create a new harem with a combination of old and new characters. Right now I’ve got my eye on Sienna and Mr. Gerran, because I think if the author/artist wants this to work, they have to start introducing new and interesting characters immediately in order to create a connection between them and the audience. I can’t say for certain, but I want to keep reading the spinoff with the idea that Mr. Gerran joins the harem in order to give myself and the other readers a sense of familiarity knowing that all the actions that Katarina is taking will lead up to the hilarious harem that we all know and love. Again, it might be weird depending on how old he is, but I want to think about it like that until the introduce more new characters in the spinoff.
