i know this would probably be very unsafe/inefficient in practice, but would culled sparrows be considered edible?
Yes.
You can absolutely eat them. Some falconers do. There are a lot of old European recipes specifically for cooking sparrow.
The breast meat is about all there is to them so you need a lot of sparrows to make a meal, but yeah. You can.
I believe starlings supposedly taste better, and they are also ethical to cull in North America as they’re another invasive species which not only harms our native birds but also has a habit of swarming crops in huge murmurations causing around $800 million a year to farmers.
The only concern in eating them would be that you want to know where they’re coming from. You may want to quarantine them for a week or two to ensure they haven’t consumed rodenticide or avicide. Most will be safe to eat though I would freeze and then cook prior but it’s significantly safer than eating venison or feral boar and people do that all the time.

What You Should Know About Pest Control Alstonville
A pest control company is a service that aims to protect homes, business and other structures from unwanted organisms. A pest infestation can cause many problems and lead to significant damage. The company’s job is to eliminate the pests and stop them from returning. They usually charge a set rate or an hourly fee, depending on the severity of the infestation.
The most common type of pest control is the use of chemicals. These include insecticides, fungicides and rodenticides. Some pesticides are formulated to kill specific insects, such as termites; others kill or inhibit the growth of plants and other organisms. Pesticides are often categorized according to their intended target: insecticides for insects; fungicides for fungi; rodenticides for rodents; and avicides for birds.
Another method of pest control is using biological controls, which use living organisms to help remove pests from a property. These organisms can be predators, parasites or pathogens. Biological methods are typically safer than chemical pesticides and have fewer potential effects on humans or the environment. However, they are generally only viable for small pest invasions and may take some time to work.
Physical pest control involves the use of barriers and traps to keep pests away from buildings or other structures. Barriers can be sticky or heat killing (for storage pests) and may include metal shields and netting to prevent birds from damaging fruit crops or roosting in trees. Traps are also effective, but may require some manual handling to handle and dispose of the trapped pests.
When you are looking for a pest control Alstonville company, look for one that offers pre-purchase inspections and a warranty on its services. You should also make sure that they are licensed and insured. A reputable company will have good reviews and an established reputation in the industry. They will also provide you with information about the pests and how they can be controlled. They will also give you tips on avoiding pests in the future. You should always follow the advice of a pest control expert. They will help you keep your property safe from pests and insects, so you can enjoy a relaxing lifestyle without worrying about them. Using a professional pest control service will save you time and money in the long run. They will also be able to help you with any termite management plans that are needed. This will ensure that your investment is protected.
Pest-A-Gon is 100% Australian owned and operated. Over 35 years of industry experience. Proudly servicing all suburbs in and around the Far North Coast and Northern Rivers areas.

❝ It would perhaps not be amiss to point out that he had always tried to be a good dog ❞
↳ sᴛᴇᴘʜᴇɴ ᴋɪɴɢ, ᴄᴜᴊᴏ ( @avicid )
𝐃𝐎𝐆𝐒 have fantastic memories, humans may not know this but a dog rarely forgets it’s dear ones no matter how much time has passed! Memories may not present the same, may not be as specific for dogs lack the same words and processes humans hold, but associations are strong.
So the minute Ace smells the human he’s on the move. Not as the loyal defender but as a rather unsure scout. The scent is confusing, layered with things he cannot quite name. It takes all of Ace’s skills as a hound to look deeper than the initial layer and decider what he was truly smelling. It was familiar, with such great love associated with it. Warm as a rug in front of the fireplace.
He scrambles forth and cuts corners of long twisting hallways following his nose. He seeks out the man with a few unsure barks, though the closer he got the more excited he becomes. He let out a breathy aff, upon sight he unsurely waved his tail behind him. There was recognition there but deep hesitation. Did he truly know this person? The scent was strange and from so long ago in dog terms. He was sure it was familiar but this human was so so big compared to who he was thinking of.
Ace cocked his head and let out a low rather confused rumble, though did not stop the slow wave of his tail.

@avicid SAID : 💬
RANDOM DIALOGUE | accepting
THERE IS A MOVEMENT IN THE SHADOWS--- someone who thinks they’re faster than they really are, it seems. even whilst he is focused on the broad picture window of the penthouse three buildings away through the crosshairs of his scope, slade is NOT an easy one to surprise. even without his senses ( the sliiiightest crunch of boot on concrete, faintest hint of sweat and the telltale iron scent of blood in the air ), he’s been in the game long enough to know how to PLAY IT RIGHT.
he can see his target, alone--- VERY unwise, considering it’s no secret there’s numbers on his head. but, hey, slade’s not about to complain. cockiness ALWAYS works in his favor. he takes his time, panning over the rest of the building, checking each window in his sights; it’s residential, so slade will have to make a quick in-and-out; a cakewalk, really. it can wait, though, since it seems he has OTHER matters to attend to first.
“ you’re not slick, kid. “ he says abruptly. very little civilian foot traffic outside the main doors... he COULD just waltz right on in. he knows the passcode from previous observations, after all. but there’s ALSO the little skylight riiiight over his target’s bed. decisions, decisions... “ until you get it through your thick skull that you can’t pull one over on me---
WHATEVER YOU’RE GOING TO ASK, THE ANSWER IS NO. “

MISCELLANEOUS ANGST STARTERS.
@avicid sent: go to hell.
❛ you know i only wanted to help. ❜
perhaps once upon a time it seemed feasible, back when he was younger, still finding his own footing. setting out was easier when he didn’t have to think of all he left behind. but he remembers that little kid who wore his uniform, the one who enjoyed reading and snow cones at the carnival --it’s hard to believe he’s standing over him now, weapons drawn and ready to fight.
in a lot of ways, it still doesn’t feel real... two men, expressions colored with anger, polar opposites of the boys they used to be.
❛ that’s all i ever wanted for you jason. ❜

he’s right, of course. jason owes nothing to the bat-symbol that had once got him killed. and yet... “YOU’RE STILL HERE.” cass points out quietly, non-combative. she looks up at this brother of hers, brown eyes intent, as when she’s determined to figure something out. “STILL...A HERO. WHY?” she wonders if he understands the intent behind her question, not just why fight for a place that hurts you --cass understands the pull to be a hero, to be good, to repent. but -- does jason have regrets the way she does? cass doesn’t know if jason has killed people, felt their life ebb away as their eyes dulled. does jason dream about death, the way that cassandra does? she wants to ask all of these things, doesn’t have the words for any of them.

hypothetically speaking if you wanted to eat some house sparrows and starlings you caught how would you check for rodenticide or avicide?
I check the GI tract for rodenticide first, it’s usually a green or blue paste by the time it enters there. Most are hemotoxins, meaning the bird will be just full of pooling blood by the time the poison is too digested to find evidence of. A bird that’s been on ice or in the fridge a day or two should not be heavily bleeding when you start dressing it to become human food, unless you puncture the heart which will make a massive mess. The breast meat will sometimes be a peculiar color, or the bird may have very little meat to offer even by tiny bird standards and multiple organs may be inflamed.
Avicides such as Avitrol are more difficult. They usually infuse the toxin with corn or seed to make it identical to normal bird food. It also acts as a neurotoxin so no pooling blood to look for, though the kidneys will be inflamed in most cases. The silver lining is that this toxin is much more fast acting and the bird will be either convulsing or dead in the trap. If I find any exhibiting neurologic symptoms (seizures, rhythmic head twitching, constant head twisting in the same direction, loss of coordination) I will cull all sparrows in that area but dispose of them by either contacting a vet to see if I may be allowed to cremate, or disposing of them in a sealed container after freezing two weeks or more.
In general, if you’re trapping in more urban areas I’d look out for it.

IT ISN’T LIKE LOGAN to bring the fangs out (or, well, the claws) in any situation that didn’t call for it, and less so when unsuited--he wasn’t particularly subterfuge with his identity, but he preferred the nebulous sort of confusion that came with freedom from the cowl, a peacefulness that allowed him to live his life without prodding scrutiny. still, he’d say this is enough to call for it. none of the wounds are mortal, but they bleed red the same, and he swears he can see the comical ringlet of chirping birds twittering and chirping above the heads of downed men. logan turns one over, rifling through his pockets for identification.
he doesn’t know gotham very well. ‘ y’ got any idea who these fools are, kid? ‘
