El Silk Way Rally 2021 está a la vuelta de la esquina y este año reunirá a los mejores exponentes de los autos, las motos y los camiones al ser fecha del Mundial de Cross Country FIA y FIM en rutas de Rusia y Mongolia. En los autos, Yazeed Al-Rajhi saldrá como principal favorito, buscando esa primera victoria del año en el Mundial que se le escapó en el reciente Rally de Kasajistán. En los camiones, después de un apasionante duelo en el Rally Gold of Kagan del Campeonato Nacional Ruso, Kamaz y MAZ volverán a verse las caras con alineaciones completas.

La lista es un poco más delgada que la vista en los últimos eventos del Mundial, pero eso no significa que vaya a ser un rally fácil para Yazeed Al-Rajhi. Entre los inscritos destacados, resalta Guerlain Chicherit, que está retornando al Cross Country preparando su participación en el Dakar 2022 y lo hará en un Century CR6 del equipo de Mathieu Serradori. La máquina está ahí para demostrar el nivel de un piloto como Chicherit. Con el Century en una evolución mucho más temprana, Serradori ya consiguió un podio en el Silk Way Rally. Además de Al-Rajhi y Chicherit, destacan los locales pero habituales participantes de fechas internacionales, Vladimir Vasilyev, último campeón del Mundial de Bajas FIA y Denis Krotov, que viene de ser segundo en el Rally de Kasajistán. Mirsolav Zapletal tendrá chances de pelear por el podio con su Ford F-150, así como Jerome Pelichet con el buggy Optimus. 

Pero donde realmente estará la pelea en Rusia y Mongolia es en la categoría de Camiones, que reúne a 16 exponentes de alto nivel. Habrá 7 Kamaz, pilotados por todas las estrellas: Anton Shibalov, Dimitry Sotnikov, Eduard Nikolaev, Airat Mardeev y Andrey Karginov, todos ganadores del evento anteriormente, sumado a dos pilotos con mejor palmarés como Karimov y Kupriyanov.  MAZ pone en ruta a sus dos principales tripulaciones en Sergei Viazovich y Alashei Vishneuski. Tampoco se puede descartar a los tres camiones de GAZ, como a los holandeses que vendrán a correr en Rusia: Maarten van den Brink y Mitchel van den Brink del equipo Mammoet y Pascal de Baar del equipo Bocou, que además tendrá un segundo camión para el francés Cazeres. 

La largada del Silk Way Rally está programada para el 1 de julio en Omsk, Rusia con la meta el 11 de julio en  Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, luego de 10 etapas con 5.442 kilómetros recorridos.

Hi! Sorry if I’m bothering you, but I was wandering if you could recommend (if you feel like it, obviously) some lesser-known Russian books. Maybe some not-world-famous classics, or just some books you like? Thanks in advance

Hi! And don’t worry, you’re not bothering me in the slightest - I am always glad to be aggressively Russian on main :D I’m afraid I haven’t been reading that many Russian books lately (and not as much as I probably ought to), so this will probably be a pretty basic list… anyway, here are some book recs:

anything by Nikolai Gogol. I feel his like books could be counted as lesser-known Russian classics because it seems to me that outside of Russia/post-Soviet countries it’s mostly Tolstoy this and Dostoevsky that. My favourite is Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka - a collection of short stories set in Ukraine in XVII-XIX centuries and inspired by local folklore. Some of the stories are scary, some are hilarious, but all of them are very poetic and an absolute joy to read. His novella Viy is also creepy and beautiful (and its screen adaptation is sometimes called one of the first Soviet horror movies). And his plays are also great and clever and funny - The Government Inspector might be my favourite, but the rest are excellent too

The White Guard and A Young Doctor’s Notebook by Mikhail Bulgakov - the first one is about the life of a family in 1918 against the backdrop of the Civil War, and the second one is, well, exactly what it says on the tin: stories about the experiences of a young doctor in a small village at the beginning of the XX century. Everyone knows The Master and Margarita, and the fame of this novel is well-deserved, but I personally find these Bulgakov’s books just as excellent

literally any short story by Anton Chekhov, you can’t go wrong with these, all of them are pure gold and so witty and funny

if you love poetry, the Silver Age (late XIX-early XX centuries) is your friend. My all-time faves are Vladimir Mayakovsky and Marina Tsvetaeva but honestly, most of the poets of this period are amazing, I only dislike Igor Severyanin 

not sure if The Dawns Here Are Quiet by Boris Vasilyev is translated into English but I simply have to recommend it because it’s an incredibly moving book about women soldiers in WW2 and it will break your heart

I haven’t read any contemporary Russian literature for ages but iirc Dina Rubina’s books are pretty great

if you’re in a mood for something more lighthearted, try Boris Akunin’s detective novels about Erast Fandorin. They could hardly be called Great Literature, and like it often happens with long book series, the latest ones are meh, but everything up to and including The Diamond Chariot is quite good, in my opinion, and definitely entertaining. The setting is the XIX century, the main character is basically a Gary Stu tragic mixture of Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, there are murders, mysteries, spying and what not. The Turkish Gambit and She-Lover of Death are probably my favourite. Be prepared for the love interests changing with every book though, also the Bechdel test what? In other words, these are, like. Not great. But still a lot of fun

BBC: New Files Allegedly Connect $450M in Lost Bitcoin to Russian Intelligence:

$450 million worth of lost cryptocurrency from the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange WEX may have been transferred to a fund belonging to Russian intelligence agency the Federal Security Bureau (FSB), according to an investigation by the BBC’s Russian Service published on Nov. 15.

The BBC’s recent investigation into the BTC-e crypto exchange case, in which co-founder Alexander Vinnik stands accused of fraud and laundering as much as $4 billion in Bitcoin (BTC) over the course of six years, has revealed new details which allegedly connect lost customer funds to the FSB.

Demands to hand over crypto assets to the FSB

The BBC retrieved audio files that allegedly connect a person named Anton — supposedly former FSB officer Anton Nemkin — with Aleksey Bilyuchenko, a co-founder of BTC-e, and Konstantin Malofeyev, who was purportedly behind the sale of WEX, a spin-off of troubled BTC-e.

During a business meeting in 2018, Anton allegedly requested that Bilyuchenko hand the cold wallets containing crypto assets of WEX over to him. Following the purported handover, Bilyuchenko was delivered to an FSB department in Moscow, where several plainclothes officers questioned him about WEX operations.

The following day, Anton allegedly demanded that Bilyuchenko passed on all cryptocurrency stored in WEX’s wallets, stating that the assets will be given to the “fund of FSB of Russia.” At the time, the wallets contained $450 million worth cryptocurrency, part of which belonged to the exchange’s customers.

Bilyuchenko eventually agreed to transfer the aforementioned amount. The data from Blockchain.com and Explorer.Litecoin.net indicated that 30,000 BTC and 700,000 Litecoins (LTC) were transferred from the aforementioned wallets — equivalent to $350 million at the time.

Other allegations against associated parties

In July, Dmitri Vasilyev, former CEO of WEX, was arrested in Italy. In April 2019, Vasilyev became the subject of a criminal investigation by the police department in Kazakh city Almaty, as the alleged suspect was charged with defrauding a local investor in the amount of $20,000 through WEX exchange.

That same month, United States prosecutors filed a complaint against BTC-e and Vinnik. Per the filing, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) determined civil penalties for BTC-e and Vinnik last year, who face fines of over $88 million and $12 million, respectively.

The filing stated outright that BTC-e and Vinnik had not attempted to register with FinCEN, implement Anti-Money Laundering practices, or report suspicious activity generally.

Dimitry Sotnikov gana otra etapa con el Kamaz K5 y sigue al frente en el Silk Way Rally, en los autos ahora comanda Guerlain Chicherit

Un excelente debut sigue teniendo el nuevo camión Kamaz K5 en el Silk Way Rally 2021: Pilotado por Dimitry Sotnikov, el camión de nueva generación de la marca rusa ha ganado 3 de 4 etapas, incluyendo la de hoy, y lidera el rally de cara a los kilómetros finales de la competencia. La ventaja de Sotnikov al frente del Silk Way Rally es de 5 minutos y 51 segundos sobre el MAZ de Siarhei Viazovich. Anton Shibalov es tercero a 6 minutos y 32 segundos.

La etapa en los camiones estuvo marcada por los problemas de Andrey Karginov, ganador de la etapa de ayer, que sufrió problemas mecánicos después del cruce de un río y perdió casi 1 hora. 

"Los últimos 6-7 kilómetros fueron un camino sinuoso, todo cubierto de vegetación. El camino se fue abruptamente a la izquierda y luego se bifurcó, nos salimos. El daño fue insignificante, fue plástico, que se arrugó. La etpaa de hoy fue superada con moderación, no hubo tiempo que perder. Vimos el camión de Karginov, tocamos la bocina, pero dijeron que siguieramos. No teníamos repuestos para ayudarlo. Parte de la pista estaba muy aplastada, además de un fesh-fesh, debido a esto, no se veía nada. Fue una suerte que a la salida del surco y un golpe con una piedra grande, no dañara el neumático. Después de eso, comenzaron a conducir con mayor precisión, sobre todo porque Anton Shibalov apareció a nuestras espaldas y Sergei Vyazovich. Comenzó a realizarse una lucha táctica, para ir al mismo ritmo que ellos" comentó Sotnikov, que tendrá que defender el liderato en la última especial de mañana.

En los autos, fue una etapa muy movida. Al principio las cosas no pintaban bien para Guerlain Chicherit, que había cedido mucho tiempo en los primeros kilómetros, pero el francés, que está pilotando un Century CR6 del equipo de Mathieu Serradori en su regreso al cross country, recuperó notablemente sobre el final, superando a Denis Krotov por 3 minutos y 44 segundos. Con el retiro de Vladimir Vasilyev, Chicherit es el nuevo líder de la clasificación general con una ventaja de 4 minutos y 26 segundos sobre Krotov.

Dimitry Sotnikov sigue invicto en 2021 después de triunfar en el Dakar de forma dominante y ahora se ha impuesto en el Gold of Kagan por apenas 1 minuto y 9 segundos sobre Siarhei Viazovich de MAZ. ¡1 minuto después de casi 900 kilómetros de carrera cronometrada!

Kamaz presentó una alineación de 7 camiones para el Rally Gold of Kagan, fecha del Campeonato Ruso de Cross Country, y entre ellos el cuatro veces campeón del Dakar, Eduard Nikolaev, que regresó en gloria y majestad a la conducción después de un Dakar 2021 detrás de escena: Marcó el mejor tiempo en el prólogo de la carrera, siendo solamente superado por el MINI de Denis Krotov en los registros. Krotov se impuso en los autos por delante de Vladimir Vasilyev.

El Rally Gold of Kagan que se disputa durante este fin de semana, tiene como principales protagonistas a los camiones: Están presentes los dos equipos top de la región y del Dakar con alineaciones completas: Kamaz y MAZ. En los 15 kilómetros inciciales, el primer golpe ha sido para Nikolaev y Kamaz pero muy cerca se encuentran Aliaksei Vishneuski (a 34 segundos) y Siarhei Viazovich (a 40 segundos) en segunda y tercera posición.

Siguientes en la lista aparecen el campeón del Dakar 2021, Dimitry Sotnikov, Andrey Karginov, Ayrat Mardeev y Anton Shibalov.

El Rally Gold of Kagan 2021 ha reunido a 70 autos y camiones y 30 motos, y tendrá 1.237 kilómetros totales de carrera con 853 cronometrados durante los próximos tres días.
