I 'm going back to 2009 // notes on Submarine EP

1. Submarine is the debut solo EP by English musician and Arctic Monkeys lead vocalist Alex Turner, released on 14 March 2011 by Domino Recording Company. It was written by Turner in 2009, on an acoustic guitar, at his New York City home. (Wiki)

I wanted to talk about Mihika and Sorrel, since they're two of my main mtl ocs who I haven't expanded on a lot (also I need a primary source for the mtl ocs wiki lol)

Mihika Ekanayake is a lawyer and roommates with one of my other ocs, Seonag. She graduated from Harvard Law during season 1 and she was supposed to attend the graduation ceremony Nathan gave his speech at, but she found out her fiance was cheating on her right before graduation so she was too distraught to attend. Seonag moved in with her because she couldn't pay the rent on her own (and also she didn't like being in the house alone post-breakup).

She's of Sri Lankan descent (Sinhalese and Vedda, to be specific), but she was born and raised in Tomahawk Wisconsin. She met Amber when she was visiting her home city during law school and the two became close friends. Even after moving to Australia, Amber will still use the various modes of transportation at her disposal to meet up with Mihika and have a girls' night. Mihika really likes rap and r&b from the 90's, but she also enjoys the Planet Piss demos she heard.

Sorrel Simoneau was a musical prodigy-turned teen pop star in France. Her handlers were in a bit of a panic for a bit because, after numerous failed attempts to market her outside of the Francosphere, her handlers started to realize that her star was starting to fade even domestically. Also during this time, Sorrel managed to sneak out and see Snakes N' Barrels in concert - and it blew her fuckin' mind. With her background in classical piano and teen pop, she had no idea music could sound like that. This was her sign that she needed to get into glam metal. Her team hated the idea, but her contract was almost up anyway so she jumped to another label with lower standards. The genre shift was a disaster. Her old fans were alienated by the new sound and the rock and metal fans (even the mainstream ones) saw through the act. The reception was so bad that Sorrel was dropped from her label and left France and music altogether.

Sorrel moved to America where she focused her attention on academics. She majored in mathematics with a minor in chemistry, then she got her PhD in chemical engineering. After working in this field, she was hired by Dr. Amonolith Chesterfield. Ironically, she was part of the team that developed Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake (she did not come up with the name). She was poached by Charles sometime during season 2 and now she works with Mordhaus' team of scientists. No one is allowed to bring up her teen pop or glam metal past.

I have a question. A stupid question, perhaps. But a question. A question I've been asked by another for reasons I do not know...yet. I've read many, many Forgotten Realms books and spent a shameful amount of time on the wiki, but there's one thing. One tiny, tiny thing that is bothering me and I cannot find an answer...

It' Gromph's eyes.

What eye color does Gromph Baenre have?!

So SPOILERS ahead for several FR book series, but I do remember specifically that, in the Daughter of the Drow, his eyes were explicitly described, at least once, as amber. His daughter Liriel inherited hers from him, in fact, if I remember correctly. Yes? Then, in War if the Spider Queen, he was blinded and had his eyes chewed out by his rat familiar Kyorli and had to get replacement eyes from another drow male via a transplant of a sort. Still with me? Am I right so far?

So, when he appears again in the Drizzt books after the Silence of Lolth, is his eye colour mentioned to have changed? Are they still amber or are they red? Do they change in the light, being red in the dark and amber in the light, kind of how Malice's eyes are described as being red in the dark and green in the light? I think??? Not sure on that one...heard it somewhere, though. I think that's also why Drizzt's sisters held a candle up to his eyes when he was born to see if they changed from lavender to something else in the light. Maybe that's a normal thing that drow have? I know not all drow have red eyes, even outside of Drizzt, though it does seem his are unusual for not being red in the dark. Curious...darkvision/infravision behind this maybe? I don't know... Just brainstorming here.) Is it not even touched upon in later books? Has the amber eyes trait been mentioned in any other drow other than Gromph? Do any other Baenres have it? Quenthel? His brothers? Did he inherit it from his mother Yvonnel or perhaps his unknown/unnamed father? Is it ever mentioned if Jarlaxle has eyes similar to that of his elder brother? Does Yvonnel 2.0 have them?

I've tried flicking through the books, but have found nothing thus far. (Then again, I don't have all the Drizzt books. I have up to Hero. I have yet to read the last six.)

I know it's such a minor detail, and it's understandable if nobody cares. But I'd love to know if anyone actually knows an answer to anything I've just rambled about. It would be very appreciated! :)

The courts have always fascinated me but while reading and looking at the map I always thought that the worldbuilding was too rushed or too simplistic. So, I have decided to reimagine the courts in a way that makes more sense to me. Who knows? I may end up using these in the future for a book of my own.

As I stated in my post about the Autumn Court, I'm doing these alphabetically. So, the next court for a family discussion is Dawn.

Not much is known about Dawn in general. They focus on tinkering, as seen with Nuan in ACOWAR, and it could also be taken that Dawn has one of the highest number of immigrants:

“No,” Beron said, frowning, “but where did she come from? Who are you?” The last bit directed at Nuan. “I am the daughter of two High Fae from Xian, who moved here to give their children a better life, if that is what you are demanding to know,” Nuan answered tightly. Helion demanded of Beron, “What does this have to do with anything?” Beron shrugged. “If her family is from Xian—which I’ll have you remember fought for the Loyalists—then whose interests does she serve?” Helion’s amber eyes flashed. Thesan cut in sharply, “I will have you remember, Beron, that my own mother hailed from Xian. And a large majority of my court did as well. Be careful what you say.”

With a quick google search, I found that Xian is just a 'unapostrophed' version of Xi'an, a big and historically influential city in China. Heard of the terracotta army? Guess which city.

So I'm taking it as Xian is some version of China, and even Nuan is a Chinese name. So Thesan is half Xian/Chinese. Now for the other half.

With another quick google search and a quick scan of a wiki article, I found that Thesan is an Etruscan name. The Etruscan civilisation is an ancient civilisation which ruled over an area of ancient Italy known as Etruria (modern day Tuscany), which was taken over by Rome in the Roman-Etruscan wars quite a few years ago. Thesan was an Etruscan goddess, the goddess of dawn, divination and childbirth, compared to Eos and Aurora.

So with those, I'm gonna say what I would name Thesan's parents, his Dawn father and his Xian mother, and their characterisations. Bare in mind that I am English and all of these names are found from probably not trustworthy sites with basic meanings of names. I will also be writing these names like you would in English, so surname last.

YAWEN ZHU- "elegant, cloud patterns" "vermillion red" A very quiet lady, she spent most of her time in the libraries of Dawn, reading and studying. She was incredibly well-educated and she often tutored in the universities, teaching politics and her native language to students. Outside of her hobbies, she spent her time with her husband and son, never able to have any other kids outside of her one. She taught her son her native language, and raised him to be as kind and forgiving as she was. Her and her husband were rarely able to be away from each other, dying together after their time was through, even though a mating bond was never sensed.

ESPLACE ROIG- "asklepios" "red" A family man, he was publically very loving towards his wife and son, unusual for many High Lords. He spent a lot of his time growing up as a healer. He was never meant to be High Lord, it was his brothers instead, yet a plague spread through his court, and his healing background saved him then, when he was young and able. As an older man, with an even sicker wife, he appreciated their time together well, until they left for the heavens together.

Now, the next group of people mentioned in the Dawn Court is the Peregryns.

The Peregryns are distantly related to Drakon’s Seraphim people and provide Thesan with a small aerial legion, Rhys said to me of the muscular, golden-armoured males and females gathered. The male on his left is his captain and lover. Indeed, the handsome male stood just a tad closer to his High Lord, one hand on the fine sword at his side.

So the Peregryns are similar to the Illyrians but also vastly different. They're closer to Drakon's Seraphims but are also highly respected, enough to be a captain and the lover of the High Lord.

Unfortunately, we learn nothing else about them. No names to give me a lead, nothing. So, I'm going to create some random history about Dawn. Due to the seeming closeness of the Peregryns and Fae in Dawn, their names is going to have gotten more mixed over time, and although there aren't many Etruscan-y languages still around, Etruria was in Italy, some I'm basing them on Romance languages. I chose Galician, as I took Spanish as GCSE and Galicia is in northern Spain.

XURXO PUGA- "earthworker" "thorn" He chooses not to talk in public, especially around people he is unsure of or dislikes. In private, you can never get him to shut up. He talks about anything and everything he can get anyone to listen to. When he's not training his army or protecting his high lord, he spends his time farming his own little vegetable patch. For an airborne creature with wings, he loves to spend his time digging in the earth, cooking treats for him and his lover to share looking at the glowing sunsets.

Dumbledore’s Secrets review.... thoughts..... It’s a mess

I just watched Fantastic beasts and where to Find them Dumbledore Secrets. I have thoughts, and I have ALOT of questions. Under this Gif, I shall be Spoiling EVERYTHING I can remember So If you do not Like spoilers Please. Do not read.

First, what I thought this movie would be about, Credence learning how to use magic. and Getting all angry at Albus and Going after him for abandoning him (which kind of happened) And about the How to Break the Blood Vow thing. Albus and Grindlewald made.

-I Knew about the change of Grindlewald I wasn’t a huge fan of the change, (( I am completely Justice for Johnny But if they had to Change the actor.. a Charming Guy would have been better. I get this guy is supposed to be Evil. But he’s supposed to be also Charming to Woo people into agreeing with him. Mads. Didn’t do it for me. Personal opinion.

Tina

I knew Tina wasn’t going to be in it (those I was HOPING For more scenes than just 2!)) I am Hopeful for the next movie. she is Fully Back! it made NO sense she would jump and focus on her career after her Sister Joined the Dark side and basically just ignored it?

With the Actors behavior for almost 2 years now with assault etc. Makes sense that they would kill him off, Just so they wouldn’t have another thing to Deal with like what is happening with Amber Heard (( the petition to Kick her out of Aquaman 2 is Now at 4 million!)) the writers, producers, probably Killed him off Due to that. cause they already Knew they were dealing with Bad Press by firing Johnny. One less hassle. that being said, the way they just had him dying (And Not really Showing him Sick until halfway thru when he fought Dumbledore, and then after that fight, he looked like Death was on his door. could have been better. they should have shown Him Ill and Unwell sooner. and what happened to his BFF Voldy Snake? Wtf happened to her?? the Big secret is that He wasn’t actually a brother of Albus but his Nephew. I won’t lie. that surprised me.

-Newt and the Creatures

, For a Movie series.. about Fantastic beasts. there aren’t many creatures in this movie. I did enjoy watching ppl recognize him Over his brother, and that scene where the brothers are holding hands was cute. Also, the scene where Newt had his hand on Tina’s waist for a second was cute. Newt seemed more open and Huggy and touchy in this movie. which I will Say I enjoyed!

I Loved that he got a wand. Does it make Absolutely ANY sense that a Muggle has a wand? Hell No. Did I enjoy those? Yes. That Being said. Excuse me! you had Jacob a Muggle. who’s been watching his friends play with magic for years now (or however long it is in the movie) We don’t have a scene of him playing with the wand trying to make things Float, or explode Ect we were ROBBED Of seeing him playing with the wand! For a man who just got unlimited power, he didn’t play with it! it was the most unrealistic thing in the movie!

Queenie

It took me a solid second to realize she was Even Queenie when she was on the other side. she looked so different. I wished they plaid out More that she was regretting her choices. and that she didn’t turn back too Good till the next movie. But still, seeing her Pining for Jacob and saving him, etc. it would have made the reunion better for me.

(( i was reading quickly on a wiki page that she hurt some muggle boys and she just.. felt so ashamed she stopped using magic? if that was the case. wouldn’t her family be like “your gonna die if you don’t use your magic!!” and try to fix the problem? IDK that’s my thoughts

So In the original HP movies, we see that England has their own magical Government, Same thing for FBAWTFT ....we even are introduced to both leaders. But in this movie. it’s one person to rule ALL of the magical worlds?

wtf is the point of the magical ministry if it is One Ruler to Rule ALL of the magical worlds. Why would England vs America have different Rules (( Like in America you can’t marry a muggle? but in England, you can)) Please explain that to me! Did I miss something? or is that how it goes down? they even showed a German Ministry!

the blood promise in general they made SUCH a huge deal about this thing last movie. to this movie barely being mentioned? they set it up that we would be trying to Figure out How to break it to just be “Nah can’t break it mate” to Kaboom. with the power of Love, I break the Blood promise?

I’m sorry about the “Voting” If for years you actually voted and all of the sudden you’re going to go back to an old tradition where a creature doe thing picks.. wouldn’t you idk Ask questions? like Why? I Love dumbledore but he isn’t “pure of heart” he’s Cunning and Brilliant and he makes sacrifices but Pure of heart? No. Sorry No. I’m not saying he isn’t a great Guy. But no. that man allowed Harry to live in a house where he was mentally, and physically abused and slept under a staircase for years. and Turned his head on it. a person pure of heart would have Snatched Harry out from his Aunts and uncles and given him a good life. a happy life!

4)In the first movie they mention that No Maj and witches and wizards cannot interact in America that which was against the law, the second one. Queenie and Jacob are in love and Queenie wants to get married. but Jacob is scared they would take her away and refused. that’s why she turns to the dark side? but now they can just get married in Queens? without breaking any law? wtf was that about

5) the excuse for Tina not being around is awful!. Did she get a promotion? her sister turned evil, and her boyfriend / and friends are fighting the big Bad but let’s stay focused on work? Even theasus was there helping out. Other its the excuse she had Covid throughout the entire movie process (( or was scared idk..)) Or the fact she spoke up against JK Rowling and JK was pissed and cut her almost completely out am annoyed. I’m Sorry I love the series but I watch 70% for the magical creatures 10% for the magical world and 20% because Tina and Newt together are adorable as HELL and I felt cheated out of the corny cheesy scenes with them!

6) How did Credence Now how to 1) use that spell to write to the dumbledore’s 2) Know about Albus’ brother?

7) I know they said the girl Albertius (Albus’ brother) was taken away. for some reason.. but ... Did he know about the child? did he just let his baby and love dash off without fighting to get them back? wtf expected better from a dumbledore.

8) I already mentioned this. Jacob getting a wand. Just..as comic relief and Fun and ect I enjoy him having a wand.. but realistically.. shouldn’t that just be a stick to him? how the Heck can he use magic he’s Not magical. he’s a muggle. No magical being it’s in the definition! lol, I loved seeing him in Hogwarts and interacting with the Kids. and I slightly wished the doe creature bowed to Jacob at the vote. President Jacob! lol

All in all... this movie... this was a movie. I’ll buy it I have too to complete my collection but honestly... wasn’t this movie delayed due to covid? IDK I expected More. and better I guess... especially with Jacob having a wand. I wanted Newt to try to teach him a simple spell and it just blows up on jacobs face like in the first HP movie when the kids are learning how to use their magic. Miss opportunity!

I think I need to talk about the absolute LACK of brown eyes in The Owl House.

The closest color we have to brown, other than Mattholomule (more on that later) is amber. Amber! Or, if you count it, gray. Even then, Luz’s eyes are like a light brown, and when looking it up on the wiki, it says her eyes are hazel.

So, Luz and Mattholomule are the only two out of HOW MANY characters in The Owl House with speaking roles?

Even the black characters in TOH don’t have brown or black eyes, with Gus having purple/blue eyes and Skara having gray eyes! I’ve heard the excuse it’s for ✨artistic vibes✨ but it’s literally just that, an excuse. Why don’t you give your characters brown eyes?

When I googled “the owl house characters with brown eyes” do you know who came up? BO. BO! Do you even remember who she is? You might not. She is a supposedly white background character with little to no speaking roles. The most I can remember her in is in Something Ventured Someone Framed.

You know who else is in this episode? Mattholomule. Which leads me to my next point, why does the main fandom hate Mattholomule so much? He was antagonistic for one episode, and I understand how people could not like him. And some people did come around to him after Through The Looking Glass Ruins!

You don’t need a reason to dislike a character. But the fact that the only one with brown eyes, and someone who is supposedly a POC, treated antagonistically like this? I’ve seen multiple AU’s with Mattholomule portrayed as a rapist, mafia boss, and other things that frankly, seem racist.

And I’m not blaming canon for the fact that he’s treated like this. I’m simply pointing out the fact that there are 2/3 characters of note in this show who have brown eyes.

Give your characters brown eyes! Especially black and other POC! Brown eyes are cool, they’re pretty, and most of all they should be represented.

An analysis of 30-million-year-old amber has resulted in the discovery of a previously unknown microscopic creature from the Cenozoic period. Bearing a resemblance to tardigrades (aka water bears), these now-extinct “mould pigs,” as they’ve been dubbed, are unlike anything seen before.

Introducing Sialomorpha dominicana, a newly discovered microinvertebrate found locked in amber from the Dominican Republic. Its discoverers, paleobiologist George Poinar Jr. from Oregon State University and invertebrate zoologist Diane Nelson from East Tennessee State University, have dubbed the creature a “mould pig” in honour of its portly, porcine appearance and its diet, which consisted primarily of fungi. Details of the discovery were recently published in Invertebrate Biology.

The 83-year-old Poinar is no stranger to working with fossils trapped in amber. His 1982 research paper gave sci-fi author Michael Crichton the idea of extracting dinosaur DNA from insects trapped in amber, as portrayed in the film Jurassic Park...

~Plot~

After the Dark Curse was freed from the curse everything was normal, all the characters started living with each other in the Dark Lords Castle when the moved out of their places, It took them awhile to move and get settled in their righteous places in the castle. Eric and Sarah didn’t really feel special because they didn’t feel strong like the others, as they were having a party to celebrate their defeat of the Dark Curse, Eric and Sarah slipped away from the party and went on a small walk around the castle. As they were walking around Sarah spotted a Purple and Amber glow, she pointed at it making Eric’s attention go onto that. They went to the door and crouched down, Sarah wasn’t really patient so she went into door making Eric panic because once she was down there she wasn’t answering everytime Eric called her name. Meanwhile at the Party Tressa heard Eric screaming Sarah’s name so Tressa told Tula and the color drained from Tulas face, she was gonna tell someone but she didn’t want to ruin the party she waited until someone asked “where Eric and Sarah go?”.

Other Great Sage: Shes like the other mother but more kind and her goals are way more different than the other mothers(Amber buttons)

Other Younger Fab Fairy: More aware than anyone in the other world, Tries to give hints for Sarah and Eric to run but they can’t take the hints(Amber buttons)

Other Middle Fab Fairy: Does the same thing as the other Younger Fab Fairy, she tries to be straight up by trying to tell them to run but we all know that the Other Great Sage is watching(Purple buttons)

Other Eldest Fab Fairy: Same as Other Ex-Dark Lord, Doesn’t appear as much but she looks pretty gentle but is pretty mean to Eric and Sarah(Purple eyes)

Other Reborn: Was the first person for Eric and Sarah to meet when they first went to the world, Super happy and energetic. You can never ever catch him frowning(Bright Yellow buttons/Pay attention to that during the story)

Other Princess: Shes pretty motherly, when she was taking Eric and Sarah to their rooms she looked back at the Other Great Sage with a worried face knowing that she has something planned(Amber buttons)

Other Prince: He’s more babyish than he normally his but during dinner he purposely caused a scene so The Other Great Sage can show her true colors but did that work? No.(Bright yellow buttons)

Other Noble Son: He’s not as clumsy as he normally is but he gets worried about Sarah and Eric being in their world(Purple buttons)

Other King: He doesn’t really appear as much in the other world, he only made an appearance once by only peaking one eye out the the crack of the open door to talk to Sarah(Dark Purple Buttons)

Other Genie: Same thing as the king but only appears once to talk to Eric(Yellow buttons)

~Monster designs~

Other Great Sage: Her monster design is based off of her attacks(From when shes joins the team in Miitopia)

Possibly I’m thinking of her design to be mixed with her Darker Lord Form, The Sun form and then (probably) mixed with a Spider and Caterpillar while her buttons are a Lightish Amber color as the inside of her mouth is a bright yellow

Other Ex-Dark Lord: His monster design is mixed with his Dark Lord form and his phantom Dark Lord form and is possibly mixed with candle(Kind of an explanation of the cracks on his body lighting up along with his eyes)

Other Youngest Fab Fairy: It’s like her monster design but it’s more droopier and her mouth glows a bright Amber

Other Middle Fab Fairy: It’s her monster design but more scarier(I am so sorry Arachnophobes). Shes more aggressive than she normally is and her buttons don’t really glow(It’s like a light that’s fading away so it flickers from time to time)

Other Older Fab Fairy: Instead of her monster design shes mixed with a Worm and a Butterfly, she has cracks in some places around her body, the cracks have Lavender Light coming from it

Other Reborn: He’s blue all over his body with lots of cracks all around his body illuminating different color lights from each crack, He has really bright yellow buttons

Other Princess, Genie, Prince, Noble Son: Since most of them don’t have a monster form the Prince is mixed a Griffin and a Magma Slime, The Princess is mixed with the General and a apple slime, The Noble son is mixed with a Goblin and a Slorm, and The Genie isn’t mixed with his monster form so he’s just mixed Peach slime. All their buttons are A bright Dark Purple

Other King: It’s his monster form but some pieces is broken so black liquid with a little of yellow liquid oozing out

Eric(Warrior): When he saw that his friends and sister started wearing normal clothes he wore a red and yellow striped shirt with black shorts and red shoes

Emma(Mage): She wears a light blue dress with a small bright pink poncho, She wears her mage hat along with it that has stars all around it and wears pink heels

Reece(Genderbent Version of the original thief): She wears a dark orange T-shirt with Brown shorts, She has bandages from her hands to her elbow, and the bandages on her legs go from her ankle to her knees and wears brown boots

Anna(Popstar): She wears a a white shirt and a long light blue skirt with violets in her hair, and wears light blue and white Velcro dress shoes

Billy(Cat): He doesn’t wear much but he wears a light yellow hoodie and wears his cat ears with some white crocs and gray shorts

Sophie(Great Sage): She still wears her cloak but under her cloak is a teal dress with pineapples on it

Stan(Ex-Dark Lord): He still wears his clothes we wore during the time he was saved from the curse but in one part of the story he was wearing Dark Blue cat shirt and black pants

Wanda(Eldest Fab Fairy): She wears a white dress and a white sun hat

Tressa(Youngest Fab Fairy): she still wears the same shirt but wears a dark green and light green skirt with the same shoes she normally wears

Tula(Middle Fab Fairy): A sunset colored shirt with a long orange skirt with Red and yellow patterns at the edges with a orange-red ribbon to hold up the skirt

Reborn: He was gonna wear the same thing he wore when he got saved but Sophie insisted that he wears something else so she gave him a cloak his size and wears a white shirt and black shorts but still wears his light blue bandanna

Gene(Genie): I believe he cannot change clothes so he wears the same things

Dominic(Dragon): wears a dark blue collar with his name on it because why not

Marianne(Princess) and Sonny(Noble Son): They wear matching clothes so while Marianne wears a Pink and Blue dress Sonny wears a Pink and blue shirt with brown jeans

Jace(Prince of Nearby Land): He wears a gray T-shirt with a jean jacket and Jeans with some sunglasses

Reggie(King): He wears the same thing he normally wears
