No way carol finally putting lore of these idiots on tumblr, lmao sometimes i forget i talked about them mainly just on instagram.
As i mentioned in a previous post, these girls are two separate entities that got bound together by the powers of the duo gem. Which is essentially a synthetic parasite created by the Chess kingdom during the grand war, the goal was to create an actifact that could fuse two warrioes together, leading to the creation of a new, stronger soldier. But because of the war and the struggles that come with it this level was never achived in the creation of these gemstones, majority of them was destroyed by attacks from the Canopy kingdom and the remaining few were hidden by its creators.
Naturally, there are curious people who would pay a fortune to get their hands on these relics, and that's exactly what Mariana was hired to do; find the duo gemstone and bring it to the buyers.
The thing is, she didn't know about the expreimental, and rather unstable, nature of the gemstone. She just new that it was this big shiny thing she was sent after, so Mari went about it as usual and before she knew it she had been sucked inside the actifact and was now locked in this small red room with sparkling walls.
On the oustide world, the gem attached itself to the back of her jacket and stayed like that for almost a whole year until this jacket was purchased by Dagger after ending up in some street market.
Dagger who at this point in time was fresh out of the Silent stalkers, the criminal organization responsible for training ninja assasins for hire that she had been taken into after becoming an orphan during the Grand war. So she wasn't doing much with her life and was sorta just sulking around without purpose or much will to do anything.
So she brought the jacket and it was when she put it on that the gemstone ripped through it and attached itself to her back (Dagger's spine to be more specific), it was only then that Mariana was able to come out of it, in that trage shadowy form, permanently attached to the other girl's back.
So yeah, not the best conditions.
They're not on good terms at all at the start, with Dagger constantly complaining and being bothered about the situation which angers Mariana a whole lot and they end up arguing most of the time + she's generally very angry/distressed over losing her body and being stuck to Dagger, who at that point she saw as nothing but a good for nothing lazy bitch.
It's after a little while that she finds out about Dagger's past of being a trained assasin and all (Dagger herself told her, she shares information very easily without much thought) and that's when Mariana has an idea of how to get herself out of this mess; She'll manipulate Dagger into going after the skullheart so that she can snatch it and wish to have her body back.
So Mariana gathers her old gear and insists that she does have talent when it comes to fighting and shouldn't give up on it, she fixes Dagger's old uniform, gets her back into training by sparring in their apartment, and then tells her that if they were able to fight and defeat the skullgirls they could bring the skullheart back to the Silent stalker's base which would show them just how strong Dagger is, after all, killing a skullgirl is no easy feat.
Dagger finds the idea awesome and gets totally on board with hunting down the skullgirl. Being unaware of Mariana's ulterior motives, she wholeheartedly trust her and pretty much adores her, she sees her as the first person in years who actually put faith in her and a real friend! It's this love from Dagger's part that leads to them developing a real friendship, with Mariana genuinely carring for someone other than her for once.
Will she be able to go through with her plans involving the skullheart?

• River - meaning “flowing body of water”. Why I love it; 1. River Song (duh), 2. River Tam.
• Sarah / Sarah Jane - meanings; Sarah “princess”. Jane “God's gracious gift”. Why I love it; 3 words - Sarah Jane Smith.
• Elisabeth - meaning “pledged to God”. Why I love it; simply, Elisabeth Sladen.
• Avalon - meaning “island of apples”. Why I love it; Avalon, an island paradise of Celtic myth and Arthurian legend--it was where King Arthur was taken to recover from his wounds.
• Louisa - meaning "renowned warrior". Why I love it; it's a glorious name, inspired by my favorite singer “Foxes” Louisa Rose Allen.
• Merida - meaning “one who has achieved a high place of honor”. Why I love it; the princess from Brave.
• Nimue - meaning “Celtic Mythology (one of the names of the Lady of the Lake in Arthurian legends)”. Why I love it; this is such a pretty name and it's Arthurian roots.
• Melody - meaning “song”. Why I love it; Ariel’s daughter and River’s alter ego.
• Emrys - meaning "immortal one", "ever-living, immortal". Welsh form of Latin Ambrosius. Celtic Form of Ambrose. Why I love it; Emrys Wledig (or Ambrosius Aurelianus) was a Romano-British military leader who fought against the invading Anglo-Saxons in the 5th century. • Anemone - meaning "daughter of the wind", ah-NEM-oh-nee. Flower name; Greek. Why I love it; is a floral name that relates to the ancient Greek myth of the famous love story of Aphrodite and Adonis, in which Aphrodite transforms her wounded lover's blood into a flower, the crimson anemone, whose blossoms are opened by the wind. accounting for its other name, windflower.
• Freya - meaning "Goddess of Love. Queen of the Gods. Beloved. Lady. Noble Woman. High-born Lady. Mistress", Norse. FRAY-ah (Norse Mythology). Why I love it; From Old Norse Freyja meaning "lady". This was the name of the goddess of love, beauty, war and death in Norse mythology. She claimed half of the heroes who were slain in battle and brought them to her realm of Fólkvangr. Along with her brother Freyr and father Njord, she was one of the Vanir (as opposed to the Æsir). Some scholars connect her with the goddess Frigg. This is not the usual spelling in any of the Scandinavian languages (in Sweden and Denmark it is Freja and in Norway it is Frøja) but it is the common spelling of the goddess's name in English. • Rhiannon - meaning hri-AN-ahn (Welsh), ree-AN-ən (English), REE-ən-ən (English). Probably derived from the old Celtic name Rigantona meaning "great queen". Why I love it; It is speculated that this was the name of an otherwise unattested Celtic goddess of fertility and the moon. The name Rhiannon appears later in Welsh legend in the Mabinogion, borne by the wife of Pwyll and the mother of Pryderi. As an English name, it became popular due to the Fleetwood Mac song 'Rhiannon'.

Why I love it; Aurora is such a pretty name that is somehow feminine, mystical, out of this world, heavenly and natural wonder. And Rory, I mean it's such a great unisex name. Plus it would suit a red headed or even golden blonde child.
• Seren - meaning "star". Pronounced seh-ren. Welsh origin. Why I love it; Sounds pretty and the meaning is so lovely. Seren is a top girl's name in Wales--and a lovely choice almost unknown elsewhere. Seren, in the Sirona form, was an ancient goddess of the hot springs.

And here's a family tree, I've been wanting to put one of these together ever since I've set canon background characters as siblings fathers
Matteo's is from the Skullgirls webtoon and Dagger's appears in a few of the origin stories from skullgirls mobile before being turned into one of Marie's skeleton minions.

Dagger fam!! I've been wanting to settle on designs for her mom and brother for ages and hey what a better way to do that than in this editing spree I've been having recently
Stella was originally one of Dahlia's bunny girls, proficient in everything firearms related and dedicated to her position in assisting Dahlia in her missions. This all changed when she met one of the men who worked more directly under Lorenzo's influence in the Medici mafia, overtime she eventually became his lover and was given a position as a secretary for higher up members of the mafia, effectively abandoning her post as one of Dahlia's helpers. (Which upset her, but she choose to not do anything about it for the meantime, just generally disappointed in how one of her bunnies turned out)
There's a lot I've put on the image already but here's a more in-depth run of the events for those curious.
It's from this relationship that Stella had her first child, Matteo, who she decided to raise on her own after realizing that her lover didn't take their relationship as serious as she did and most likely wasn't going to divorce his other family to be with her. Besides, Stella was well aware of all the dirth the Medici's are involved with, she wanted to spare her children of going down the same path as her.
He was a sweet boy, with a love for animals and a desire to help those in need, which led to him becoming a medic and later joininythe Feral recuers. Matteo loved his mother and knew she loved and was very proud of him, even if Stella wasn't the best at showing it.
When Stella became pregnant again, from a different, less serious relationship than her last, Matteo was overjoyed about having a little siblings and swore he would do everything to protect her. He was Alessia's role model and favorite person during her early childhood, picking her up from school and spending a lot of time together playing or watching their favorite programs.
When the Grand war started, Matteo and his crew left to help the people from No man's land. Aside from working as a doctor, he also served as a caretaker for the kids they saved there, since he was used to taking care of his sister back home. He helped many people during the 3 years he worked there before sadly passing away after being crushed by debris of a falling building.
His mother was devasted. Alessia was a little too young to fully comprehend what happened, especially with how messy everything became in the following months after Matteo's death.
The ongoing grief made her performance at work worsen more and more each day, especially with how inconsiderate the others around her workspace were of her. She earned less and began to struggle financially, she woule shut herself off in her room a lot, leaving Alessia to be alone most of the time now.
One night, Stella left to talk with Lorenzo, she begged for him to think about her situation and lend her some extra money, growing more desperate as he refused. In a spur of the moment , she threatened to tell the authorities and the Renoir family of everything she knew the Medici was hiding behind closed doors, Lorenzo didn't take that well at all.
She begged for mercy, swore she would do anything and everything the Medici ordered her to if she was spared.
The next day Alessia woke up to an empty house, she waited and waited but her mother never returned. She was startled when two strange men entered the house and went after her, one wore a purple suit and the other had a brown hat and a big beard. She ran away from them and into the busy streets of new Meridian where she quickly got lost and had no idea of what to do from now on.
It was then that she was found by a group of people that comforted her, promising that they would give her a new home and make her strong if she choose to come with them, she agreed and was taken into the Silent stalkers alongside several other children that had become orphans during the war.
She would spend the next 10 years of her life undergoing the organization's heavy training to become one of their assassin's for hire, being renamed Dagger for the weapon of which she had most proficiency using.
