i've been working on rewriting parts of Strixhaven in order to better fit my setting that I've been building and I think the thing i've struggled the most with is the deans and their polar principles. so many of them feel almost slapstick levels of goofy and things no real person could truly believe while still being functional at their jobs. the obvious inference for students/PCs is that neither extreme is good, and you need to find a balance of the two, but i'd still like for the deans to be somewhat believable.
Witherbloom Dean of Growth Lisette Maldock is of Maldock Trading Company fame. Students often describe her as very kind and easy to talk to, although she is also known for the incredible work she has done. The creation of the Alloid for the MTC has the potential to alter factory-work across the globe; capturing the souls of your most loyal workers after their death and inserting them into specialized metallic shells allows them to take on some of the most dangerous jobs in the factory, while also continuing to earn money to support their families. The Alloid do need to pay rental fees for their hosting bodies, but surely it is worth it to be allowed to live just a little longer.
Witherbloom Dean of Decay Valentin Laguerre hails from Aigua, a nation once dominated by vampiric overlords but now reborn in the blood of revolution. Students whisper about what role he may or may not have played on the days when rivers ran red, but there is little use in denying that freeing the snakes of their heads was a quicker, more effective route to freedom than politeness and idle hope.

Thank you so much for answering my question earlier about " grevena folk costume ". My grandpa is from Aidonia which is in Grevena but its impossible to find information online since i do not know greek. I am now one step closer to knowing about my ancestors culture 🩷🫶🏻 this might be a stretch but do you know anything about Aidonia specifically? All i know is that there is some ancient tombs nearby the village, which has been looted from its treasures. Anyway thanks 🥹
I didn't know about Aidonia to be honest because it is a pretty small village but I gathered some general information about it!
Aidonia is a small semi-mountainous agricultural village of Grevena in a 760m altitude.
The village was previously called Stizahion (some idiomatic phrase associated with the walnut tree lumbering in the region) and must have been founded around 1692. It was renamed to Aidonia, after the many nightingales that can be heard in the area.
During the Ottoman period, the village was a chiflik, meaning a piece of land which belonged to an Ottoman military officer and where poor farmers could settle and cultivate the land with most profits going to the lord in exchange for some protection. In 1862, the villagers gathered money and bought the land from the lord.
It is very very small. It now has around 53 permanent inhabitants, but the population doubles in the summer. In its heyday it might have had around 500 people.
Athanasios Broufas (1850 - 1896) was raised and lived up to his adulthood in Aidonia. He was a loved Makedonomahos (= Macedonian fighter) in the region. (aka Greek Macedonian fighting for the liberation of Macedonia from the Ottoman Empire) He sold all his fortune for the Macedonian Struggle and he later fell in the battle. He had also built the old school of the village. There is a bust of his in the village's main square.
I found an old list of all the voting male members of the village, dating from 1914. Perhaps you will find your grandpa's ancestors here! The list also includes their birthyear and profession.
Because you don't know Greek, I can give you the family names mentioned here. I used the conventional English transliteration. They are: Athanasiadis, Alexopoulos, Vorsiotis, Vezaris, Gyftos, Gioulekas, Giarakaris, Georgopoulos, Dimou, Zounis, Zisopoulos, Thanasi, Thanaseos, Karas, Kolousopoulos, Kotopoulos, Kitsiopoulos, Kosmiopoulos, Karaliatos, Karagiozis, Loukas, Misiopoulos, Deropoulos, Nikopoulos, Nakos, Nianiopoulos, Papadopoulos, Papazoglou, Papakosta, Palas, Papanikolaou, Rezniotis, Rizou, Stergiou Papa, Spanopoulos, Stagikas, Startsios, Spanos, Samaras, Skentou, Tzikopoulos, Tsipopoulos, Tsoliades, Tzimoulas, Tzimos, Tsiolas, Tsiokiris, Tziatzou, Tzifkas, Hondros, Hatsiou, Psanopoulos.
Boy yes indeed -poulos is the most common surname ending in Greece but your village has blown this out of proportion XD
Unfortunately, I couldn't find more about the ancient tombs you say. Perhaps there is not much knowledge around them because they have been looted. However, in general more and more ancient findings are unearthed lately in the area of Grevena.
