Tyler Ch QF: Peter Gojowczyk [Q] def. Adam Neff [WC] 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
Neff had his chances, but Gojowczyk's slightly better return game helped him a lot in creating and converting his chances. While his 2 consecutive double faults opened it for Neff in the first set, Gojowczyk's better pacing in rallying could overwhelm Neff, whose service games were better for one set and a fourth. As a result, Gojowczyk had 5 opportunities to break, and had a 27% break point conversion rate more than Neff.
On the other hand, Gojowczyk had a slightly better service game. Scoring 4 more aces than Neff, Gojowczyk was 1% ahead in terms of the first serves winning percentage, implying both players' reliance on the first serves. However, Neff took a little step too far with his service games, having a risky approach by double-faulting twice more often than Gojowczyk (8 to 4), hence he could only win 47% of his points from the second serves. As a result, Gojowczyk was able to exploit it with his returns, which resulted in Neff's shot rushes in an attempt to close the point, inferring how building longer rally tolerance is important in the long run.
Setting his first Challenger semifinal appearance since Rennes Challenger 2022 (l. Ugo Humbert), Gojowczyk will face the winner between Tennys Sandgren or Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, which match is still ongoing as this was written. Looking how that match delivered, Gojowczyk might need to step up some rallies or aggression, which either opposition could excel at in such a dynamic pace. For Neff, this positive week built his ATP rank from being unranked to the 890th in the world, possibly adding more experience along the way in this swing!

Beauty & the Bieber (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Continuing their signature style of combining childhood classics with modern music, the PattyCake guys decided to tackle a tale as old as time for their next project. In addition to Justin Bieber's melodies and the musical motifs from the 1991 animated film, they also included elements from the forthcoming 2017 live action remake.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — Beauty and the Bieber
performers: Jamie Fritz (Belle); Earl Elkins, Jr. (Beast); E. Michael Evans (Gaston); Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (LaFou); Alexander Browne (Lumiere); Brad Pettitt (Prince Adam); Leah Lowman (village girls); Anita Wakim (Enchantress)
original songs / performers: [0:15] "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber; [0:53] "Baby" by Justin Bieber, feat. Ludacris; [1:09] "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber; [1:21] "Never Say Never" by Justin Bieber, feat. Jaden; [2:12] "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber; [2:36] "Company" by Justin Bieber; [3:30] "Beauty and a Beat" by Justin Bieber, feat. Nicki Minaj; [4:10] "Sorry" by Justin Bieber; [4:22] "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake, feat. Justin Bieber; [4:44] "Cold Water" by Major Lazer, feat. Justin Bieber & MØ
written by: "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Theron "Neff-U" Feemster, & Joshua Gudwin; "Baby" by Justin Bieber, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Terius "The-Dream" Nash, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges, & Christina Milian; "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, & Ed Sheeran; "Never Say Never" by Adam "Messy" Messinger, Nasri Atweh, Thaddis "Kuk" Harrell, Jaden Smith, Omarr Rambert, & Justin Bieber; "Boyfriend" by Mike Posner, Mason Levy, Matthew "Blackbear" Musto, & Justin Bieber; "Company" by Justin Bieber, Andreas Schuller, James Wong, Leroy Clampitt, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd, James "JHart" Abrahart, & Thomas Troelsen; "Beauty and a Beat" by Max Martin, Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Savan Kotecha, & Nicki Minaj; "Sorry" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Justin Tranter, & Julia Michaels; "Let Me Love You" by William "DJ Snake" Grigahcine, Justin Bieber, Andrew "Watt" Wotman, Ali Tamposi, Brian Lee, & Louis Bell; "Cold Water" by Thomas "Diplo" Pentz, Justin Bieber, Karen Marie "MØ" Ørsted, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, "King Henry" Allen, Philip "Jr Blender" Meckseper, Ed Sheeran, & Jamie Scott
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 17 March 2017
My favorite bits:
combining the rhythmic strings and the villagers' greetings from "Belle" with the melody for "I'll Show You"
Belle explicitly giving Gaston the brush-off
the tinkling minor motif from the animated movie as Belle enters the castle
Earl's fantastic growl at the end of "Never Say Never"
LaFou's gleeful fawning over Gaston and dancing on the tables
the sneaky ♫ "May-be" ♫ from "Company" overlapping with the tavern scene and leading into the "Be Our Guest" instrumentation
the Beast's lovely vulnerability during the dinner and dancing
using the crunchy horn motif from "Battle on the Tower" to create menace in this version of "Let Me Love You"
Earl's voice being layered over the final lyrics after the transformation

Trivia:
○ The obvious starting point for this project was Jusin Beiber's "Beauty and a Beat", which Tony and Layne had performed as part of VoicePlay's "Wow! Vol. 1" medley during the 2015 Sing-Off tour, but one song does not a full plot make. The guys delved into his extended catalogue to find songs that fit certain story beats and would blend well with the animated movie's score.
○ This was an incredibly ambtious undertaking. According to the PattyCake guys, preparations took five months, and filming spanned "six long days" (and nights, clearly).
○ All that hard work paid off, though, since they were able to time their YouTube release for the same day that the Emma Watson movie hit theaters.
○ VoicePlay recorded a Beauty and the Beast medley for "Once Upon an Ever After" (2012), their first album with Tony as a member of the group. Excerpts from that arrangement later appeared in their music videos "Be Our Guest", "Aca Top 10 – Disney Sidekicks", and "Aca Top 10 – Disney Villains". They also included "Belle" in their "Aca Top 10 – Broadway" countdown.
○ "Love Yourself" was the first song in VoicePlay's PartWork series, which they started as preparation for Tony leaving the group.
○ Layne occasionally used "Baby" as his interruption at the end of VoicePlay's "Road Trip" medley / comedy sketch.
○ On top of their usual studio work, this production required multiple location shoots:
The outdoor village scenes were filmed at the Casa Feliz museum.
Beast's castle interior was the Ballroom at Church Street, which closed in 2019, and was demolished 2023.
The tavern was an actual bar, the Tap Room at Dubsdread.
○ Between the main cast and dozens of background folks, they needed so many costumes that Tony enlisted his sister Anita to help wrangle them all.
○ There are several of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni among the main cast:
Michael (Gaston) played Dracula and Frankenstein's monster.
Joey (LaFou) played Wolfman and Dracula.
Brad (Prince Adam) was a dancer in the final "Mashup" iteration of the show.
○ There are also many friends and family among background cast and crew, including several cast members from previous Unexpected Musicals. Olivia Adkins and Leah Lowman are among the village crowd as Snow White and Cinderella. Rachel Copeland and Matthew Buckner are in the tavern crowd, but not as their previous characters. Many of the other villagers were clubgoers in "Hocus Heathens".
○ This video got a nice write-up on Huffington Post.

📸 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
The third set started with 2 consecutive holds before Gojowczyk found the body return to keep Neff's balance off, resulting in the latter's forehand error while intending to go down-the-line. A double fault and another misfire led to him being broken to 3-1 before Gojowczyk held his service game to 4-1 after.
Neff had his chances, but his pacing was not there either, especially since this match might be service game-oriented in one way or another. Another set of shot rushes resulted in Gojowczyk leading a double break before the German successfully served for the match 2 games later despite a little hiccup there, taking the third set 6-2 to secure his first Challenger semifinal since Rennes Challenger 2022.

Post-AGT Appearance 1235: TMZ on TV January 17
After that performance more people would start betting on Ted Turner.  The Weathervane points to Love would drop to 90th last weekend.  I would have flown to Boston late Thursday night to visit relatives, including an uncle who turned 80 Sunday.  My stay on the east coast would get extended however.  My wife’s brother in law died on January 10.  They would not adjust the date of the funeral for us.  It’s scheduled for Saturday in New jersey.  I would still be quite unhealthy.
Colbert would have a problem.  The management would assume I was exaggerating my symptoms and they would try to create a new rule that no unhealthy person can appear on the show.  Since Colbert wanted me back in late April that would be a problem immediately.
This would have been the first time in years that the Late Show didn’t tell the person in advance.  On Sunday someone would show Jane Fonda the video and she would go into a rage.  A servant would have leaked the story to the press.  This morning my agent would have asked me to post a reply and I would.  The first to quote me would be TMZ on TV today.  Harvey Levin, Loren LaRosa, Melanie Leanne Miller and Charlie Neff would speak.
Levin: So, Loren, we have an update on the Jane Fonda situation.
LaRosa: Yes we do!.  Last Thursday on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert Norbert Adams, representing Phillip and Cole’s Variety Team gave this satirical love letter to Jane Fonda.
(They show a clip as posted.)
LaRosa: One of her staff showed her the video and a person close to Ms Fonda said she went into a profanity-laced rampage.
Miller: None on video, unfortunately.
Levin: Just what I want to see her doing in her old age.
Neff: That’s right.  Remember Norbert was saying how much he likes her.
LaRosa: Ha ha, they say she went on an on for about 10 minutes calling him every name in the book.
Levin: Yes, uh uh, we talked about all of that yesterday.
Miller: You have an update.
LaRosa: Yes I do, right here.  Phillip and Cole’s Variety Team has released a comment on the situation.
Neff: This should be good.
Levin: What does it say?
PBC: No comment.
(Groans)
Levin: Ha ha we’ll have some real news after this.

G4 TV Shuts Down Two Years After Comcast Tried to Revive Gaming Network
G4 is shutting down — again. Comcast Spectacor, the cable and entertainment giant’s sports and esports division, told G4 TV employees Sunday that the gaming network was shutting down effective immediately. The decision has resulted in 45 staff members of G4 TV losing their jobs. In a memo, obtained by Variety, Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO Dave Scott cited low viewership and said the network had not achieved “sustainable financial results.” “Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results,” Scott wrote. “This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.” Comcast Spectacor in July 2020 said it would reboot G4 TV, which NBCUniversal shut down in 2013 (after the network first launched in 2002). Russell Arons, the former Warner Bros., Machinima, EA and Mattel exec who joined G4 as president in September 2021, left the company two months ago. The content studio and network officially returned to linear television on Nov. 16, 2021, after more than a year of the group releasing content online to test show new concepts. At launch, G4 TV was available Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Verizon Fios, Cox Communications and internet streaming service Philo. The network’s programming slate brought back fan-favorite legacy G4 shows like “Attack of the Show!” and “Xplay.” In addition to Arons, Comcast Spectacor had hired two G4 alums: Brian Terwilliger, most recently at WWE and former producer for G4’s “Attack of the Show!”, joined as VP of programming and creative strategy. Blair Herter, who once worked on both “X-Play” and “Attack of the Show!”, had come on board as Comcast Spectacor’s VP of content partnerships and brand development. G4 had established its own broadcast studio in Burbank, Calif., outfitted for professional esports gameplay. The roster of talent for the short-lived network include returning G4 hosts Kevin Pereira and Adam Sessler; esports personalities Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez (host of NBC’s “The Titan Games”), Ovilee May and Froskurinn; WWE Superstar Xavier Woods (aka Austin Creed); YouTube personalities Kassem G, Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil and Gina Darling; Twitch streamers Fiona Nova and Will Neff; livestreamer CodeMiko; and a “degenerate rat-puppet” named Ratty. G4’s shutdown was first reported by Deadline. Read Scott’s Sunday email to G4 staffers: October 16, 2022 Team: As you know, G4 was re-introduced last year to tap into the popularity of gaming. We invested to create the new G4 as an online and TV destination for fans to be entertained, be inspired, and connect with gaming content. Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results. This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately. I know this is disappointing news, and I’m disappointed, too. I want to thank you and everyone on the G4 team for the hard work and commitment to the network. Our human resources team is reaching out to you to provide you with support, discuss other opportunities that may be available, and answer any questions you may have. Thank you again for all of your hard work for G4. Sincerely, Dave Scott Chairman and CEO Comcast Spectacor Source link Originally published at Melbourne News Vine
