The Ringmaster's Guide
a character guide for my TADC Dungeons & Dragons AU! this was originally gonna be the characters in the same universe, just LARPing the game, with Caine making the terrains and magic and stuff, but then i actually started thinking of backstories for everyone. so now it's a real AU in the DnD universe! (there's no exact full, fleshed-out plot line, and the fics i'm gonna write with this are gonna be random events!)
this guide contains stuff like the gangs' races, classes, designs, abilities, and some fun backstory tidbits ;)

Wings like silver, slicing through the sky. Twisting, turning, as graceful as a starling. A dance between earth and sky, a ballet of feathers and air, where gravity’s pull was but a distant memory when up so high.
A tiny squeal of joy. Shining eyes casting downward. Shimmering eyes looking up.
“Aww, look at you,” she coos to the infant bound to her chest by soft fabric. The baby’s little wings, still covered in fluffy down, are extended fully and flapping gleefully.
The mother laughs. “Do you think you’re flying?”
“AH!” her infant shouts, wings flapping harder.
Another laugh. She brushes her fingers over her child’s cheek, then looks to the horizon. “One day, this will all belong to you.”

Order’s Demand- By raising her holy symbol, Ragatha can charm an enemy through exerting her presence over them.
Destroy Undead- If the will of an undead enemy fails against Ragatha casting Turn Undead, they are destroyed.
Embodiment of the Law- If casting a spell of the Enchantment school, she can quicken the casting time.
Divine Strike- Ragatha can deal an extra bout of Psychic damage upon hitting an enemy.
Divine Intervention- Ragatha can call upon her deity for aid.
Racial Abilities
Healing Hands- Ragatha’s very touch is nurturing and life-giving. She is able to draw from a wellspring of gentle energy to heal people for a certain amount.
Darkvision- Ragatha can see in the dark.
Celestial Legacy- Ragatha can cast the Light and Daylight cantrip at will.
Celestial Revelation: Radiant Consumption- Ragatha is able to unleash her full Celestial might on those who dare to test her. A bright, seething light pours from her eyes and mouth, and her very body acts as a beacon, radiating this same searing light in a radius. Any enemy who gets too close is scorched by this holy glow. All weapon attacks do extra Radiant damage.
Flight- Ragatha is able to fly with her angel wings.

Aasimar are well-known for their beauty, and Ragatha is no exception. She’s a well-built woman, bearing great muscles for someone of her appearance. Her skin has a lustrous sheen to it. Growing within her curly red hair are shimmering feathers of white-blue. An ethereal light glows in her black left eye, and the right probably would be the same if it weren’t for the fact that it’s been seemingly scratched out; a seething red scar extends down that side of her face, as though she had been struck by a bladed weapon.
Large, feathered wings extend from her back. They’re a beautiful silver-white color, fading to gradients of blue at their tips.
Strangely, she has sharper teeth and nails than would usually be seen in an Aasimar.
A red blemish, some kind of burn scar, encircles her throat, never to truly heal.

Lucky Footwork- Just because he doesn’t have the rabbit legs of his Harengon mother doesn’t mean this fella isn’t dextrous. When he slips up or stumbles, Jax’s quick reaction time gives him a chance to steady himself.
Hare-Trigger- Jax’s fast rabbit reflexes sometimes allow him to strike first in combat.

Anyone who looks at this guy can tell that he’s a hybrid. He’s a tall, lithe young man with a regular humanoid build. His entire torso is covered in thick purple fur that extends to his elbows on his arms and to his thighs on his legs—below that, it’s darker purple skin. Instead of rabbit feet, he has hooves, and his fingernails are sharp claws. Tufts of fur sprout from the base of his long tail, which ends in an arrowhead, before it tapers off to regular skin. His head is completely furry, and he has both the iconic rabbit ears and black horns that curve back over his scalp.

For a long time, it seemed that they were going to waste away. Life was harsh, and their money was scarce.
And then, they found their way to the great bronze city.
Everything changed when they stepped through those giant gates.
To this day, they still don’t know why they caught the eye of those aristocrats, but they were offered a job. It would give them housing and paid well.
But there was a catch, of course. Two of them, to be precise. Everything came with strings attached. Nothing was ever that good.
Surprisingly, though, they found themself not minding these “conditions.” If anything, it sounded interesting.
And they did pride themself in their high pain tolerance.

Spirit Seeker- Zooble has an attunement with the natural world. They are able to cast Beast Bond and Speak With Animals as ritual spells.
Totem Spirit: Bear- Zooble has picked the bear as their Totem Spirit. While in a Rage, they are resistant to all damage except Psychic.
Fast Movement- Zooble’s movement is boosted by ten feet when not wearing heavy armor.
Aspect of The Beast: Elk- Zooble has chosen the elk as their animal aspect. Party travel is faster than it usually would be.
Feral Instinct- Zooble’s might allow them to attack quicker in combat.
Brutal Critical- Through sheer savagery, Zooble can increase the damage done to an enemy.
Spirit Walker- Zooble can cast Commune With Nature as a ritual spell.
Relentless Rage- Zooble’s fury urges them forward. When they otherwise would have fallen unconscious, if in a Rage, Zooble can cling on for just a little bit longer to keep fighting.

Animal Enhancement- As a Simic Hybrid, Zooble has had new body parts added to them to make them more powerful.
Manta Glide- Zooble has ray-like fins on their back that allow them to glide and fall safely, though they can’t fly with them.
Grappling Appendages- Zooble has an additional pair of appendages growing alongside their arms, which they are able to grapple and attack enemies with.
Darkvision- Zooble can see in the dark.

Zooble is a bit of an anomaly, as many Simic Hybrids are. Their body is a strange clash of bits and parts, like they’re a puzzle made of pieces from other puzzles.
Their torso and right arm are humanoid—and those are pretty much the only normal things about them. However, their torso is mottled in orange and yellow for an unknown reason. Their left arm is similar to that of a crustacean’s, red in color and ending in a large claw. Their left leg is hooved, while their right leg is that of a bear’s, both having come from their Totem Spirit rather than from being a Simic Hybrid. Two appendages, similar to the arms of a praying mantis, extend from their back. Also on their back are two fin-like membranes that are almost like wings, allowing them to glide.
They constantly wear a helmet that they rarely ever take off. The helmet is grated in the front and has two horns curving out from the top.

One With Shadows- If in an area with dim light or darkness, Pomni can become invisible.
Relentless Hex- Pomni can create a temporary connection with a creature. When connected, she can teleport up to 30 feet towards the creature.
Maddening Hex- Pomni can deal extra Psychic damage by creating a psychic disturbance.
Repelling Blast- Eldritch Blast will move the target back by 10 feet.
Pact Boon: Pact of the Tome- Pomni has been given a Book of Shadows by her patron, granting her three extra cantrips.
Abyssal Field- Pomni creates a sort of field that rips at the veil of reality, opening up a space to the Void in the material plane. Within this field, weak objects crumble away and are destroyed, while everything and everyone aside from Pomni takes damage.
Entropy Awaits- After reducing an enemy to 0, Pomni can thrust their soul into the Void, feeding it and allowing her to regain a number of hit points back.
Mystic Arcanum- Pomni’s patron has bestowed upon her an arcanum, which allows her to gain a higher level spell earlier than she normally would.

Darkvision- Pomni can see in the dark.
Shifting- Pomni can take on a more bestial appearance. As a Swiftstride Shifter, when she is shifted, she moves faster than she normally would.

Unlike others of her kind, Pomni isn’t exactly the most ferocious or intimidating—both in personality and appearance. She’s a small, stout young woman—so short that she constitutes as a Small creature. All Shifters resemble some kind of animal, and she resembles a tiger, which is rather hilarious due to the previous mention of her being tiny and pathetic. Weirdly, her fur is red and blue instead of black and orange…but given everything else that’s just been mentioned about her, that’s pretty on-par.
Round little tiger ears poke out of her scruffy black hair, and she has a tiger tail. Her fingers and toes are clawed, and her teeth are sharp. Blue stripes are scored along her upper arms, thighs, neck, and cheeks. The bottom of her feet are padded, making it more comfortable for her to walk around without shoes on, which she usually does. She also appears to be somewhat digitigrade, often walking on her toes (perhaps to look taller?). Her nose is pink like a tiger’s. Her fingers have been permanently stained to a black gradient.
When she’s shifted, Pomni gains a slightly more intimidating edge. Fur sprouts up her limbs and along her back, and her face takes on a more bestial appearance.
There are red blisters around her wrists and ankles.
However, there’s something…weird about Pomni. Something almost…uncanny. Sometimes her muscles will visibly spasm beneath her skin, like they’re alive and want to get free. Sometimes her flesh will ripple. Upon her back, she has a pair of strange, vestigial wings beneath the skin. Occasionally, little black tentacles will sprout from random parts of her body. Two horn buds rise from her crown.
And her eyes…they’re just not right.

She doesn’t know how long she’s been down here. Days? Weeks? Months? Years? It doesn’t matter anymore.
She’s alone. All alone.
She’s tried screaming. She’s tried to claw her way out. She’s tried praying to every god in existence.

My Peter B headcannons!
General HCs, however I will take requests for different HCs (only for Headcannons rn though 👀)
He's a reporter rather than a physicist in his universe.
He was probably more of a jock type, who knew more about sports. When he got bitten he got more active, but never played any team sports because he was still scared of his bullies.
He had asthma before he was bitten.
He loves the color blue, but specifically navy blue.
Loves classic rock, but like 70s sort of classic rock, so definitely more of a Kinks, Rolling Stones, Queen sorta fan.
In his Universe, Harry was his Green Goblin.
He's very emotional.
He is a HUGE horror movie buff.
Is actually a very big bookworm, especially mystery books. Growing up he was a big Sherlock Holmes fan.
His parents were actually alive, but they couldn't take care of him, and so they sent him to live with his Aunt and uncle when he was 5.
He's actually from Nebraska.
He's not a fan of his birthday, so he never makes a big deal about it.
Also gets butthurt when nobody makes a big deal about it.
His universes Gwen was actually a babysitter he had a fat crush on when he was 9. She was 8 years older than him.
He likes funny women, it makes his stomach flip whenever a spunky woman can joke with him.
More of a grease monkey than a lab rat, however he somehow is and actual whizz when it comes to many subjects. Except for Arts of any sort. He actually is not creative at all.
He has the most useless facts stored in his head, it can literally be the most out of pocket thing ever, and yet doesn't know basic things.

Let's Read Peanuts (Only 45 more years to go!) – March 1955

I appreciate the creative use of Zipatones in this one.
Thoughts:
Is it just me or does Charlie Brown still seem a bit shell-shocked from last month’s existential beatdown by Patty? It’s like his entire personality suddenly got about 20% more deadpan at the start of this month.
Actually, it might be my imagination but the whole style of the strip seems to have shifted ever so slightly recently both in the type of emotional reactions we’re getting and in the way the kids are drawn. They’re just a smidge more… Rounded? Hefty? How do I say Charlie Brown looks kind of fat without offending anybody?
You can really see the difference if you compare this month’s strips to one’s from a couple years ago.
I think a lot of it has to do with how small Schulz is drawing faces these days (which has the added effect of making them less expressive) as well as the general shape language he’s been using. The cast (especially Charlie Brown) we’re always a bit pear-shaped but they had fairly narrow shoulders which gave them a kind of triangle or cone shape overall. Recently though Schulz has been letting the shoulders stick out more as well as making everyone significantly wider overall. This has had the effect of changing that triangle into more of a rectangular box and is making everyone look just a wee bit more heavyset as a result.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing, though I'll admit I kind of prefer the earlier look. Mostly though, to me this shift kind of marks the final end of the scrappy chaos gremlin version of Charlie Brown we've seen up until now and the emergence of Charlie Brown as the universe's punching bag. He just doesn't push back at the world the way he used to going forward. Patty apparently owned him so hard in the marketplace of ideas that it fundamentally shifted his personality, and by extension, the way the universe is presented to us. Honestly, I'm impressed.
It's kind of sad because I liked those more active aspects of his character. Everybody dumping on him made a lot more sense when it was understood that he was kind of a jerk in his own way and ultimately the author of his own misery. But that's just the nature of art and long-form storytelling I suppose. It either moves forward and evolves or goes stale and dies. So it goes.

Hi Sam, as someone who keeps unconventional hours (going to sleep and getting up really early), do you manage to move your sleeping rhythm around for later work events or family visits? I'm thinking of adjusting my rhythm a bit, but there are certain work things I wouldn't be able to get out of and some friends/family things happening in the evening I wouldn't want to give up.
Well, bear in mind that I don't go out much. :D
When I go home to visit my family, we are mostly homebodies, so we're almost always home at my "regular" bedtime of 7pm-8pm. However, my family usually goes to bed closer to 11. So generally I'll stay up a bit and around 9:30 I'll say "I'm fading, don't feel you have to go to bed but I'm going". But I'm also someone who rarely has trouble falling asleep, so that's functional for me in a way it might not be for others. I still come home from visits to my family very tired.
Likewise, I don't really do evening events; I was never comfortable at them, and while I've gotten more comfortable with the occasional night out with friends, it's still pretty rare. I currently attend a LARP that happens one evening a month and the only way I get through it is to take my Adderall dose much, much later in the day than normal. I do pretty well with evening parties overall, because I know they're coming and they're just one evening, but often I'll nap in the afternoon so that I'm not nodding off just as the party gets started.
I've never worked somewhere that I regularly had to attend evening events; optional events I just didn't go to, and probably my career has taken a hit or two for that. If you have regular involuntary evening work stuff, then you might just...not be able to change your sleep rhythms.
That is the thing about living outside of cultural rhythms. Sometimes you just don't get to do stuff. I'd love to be able to go grocery shopping at 4am, but none of the grocery stores around here are open then. I was quite annoyed at the fact that the "city that doesn't sleep", New York, has very little for people to do, actually, at 5am, other than drink; even the bagel places often don't open until 7. Most of the adult learning classes I'm interested in don't start until after I'm asleep. But for me, on balance, it's better to be up at 3 and have five quiet hours, at a time when I'm well-rested and capable of doing stuff. That's not going to be the case for everyone, especially people for whom waking up in general is a punishment. It's really a question of what your body will tolerate, and what you're willing to trade off.

This is going to start as a vent and then transition into me being honestly a little nuts about Bleach filler, but man, this morning I received the FROSTIEST AO3 comment, which was a pretty atrocious way to start a Tuesday. Because I was like, well, I didn't actually need any help feeling bad about myself, I'm good at that on my own, but thanks I guess!! Tuesday morning is just. So early in the day and so early in the week for that.
My traditional response to this is to write more, and put more words between me and whatever thing I wrote before, but today I had meetings scheduled from 7-10:30PM, which meant I'd have to wait until after that to do any running away. But then the meetings ran over, and now I actually just have to write a bunch of meeting-related emails (and this very important post LOL), so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
BUT. Sometime after 9:30 I started to lose my damn mind and ensconced part of myself in one of B3's beloved pastimes, Boring Bleach LARP, and it was a very good time, all is resolved
Because we were talking about political capital and what factors can compel someone to expend it and the general tendency to safeguard it above all else, and I was like, man, considering Hitsugaya appears to have basically no strategy around his political capital, he's doing very well! Because while I think Hitsugaya is successfully strategic in a lot of different avenues, I'd be hard pressed to be convinced that the kind of political capital development/maintenance I'm talking about is on that list. He is constantly involved in random nonsense that almost certainly have more potential political consequences than gains (no one cares if you mount a *successful* defense against the Bount, but it does matter if it goes very poorly and then requires everyone else to also have to get involved. See also: those dinosaur clone arrancar in the Advance Team filler, the amount of meaningless commuting he and Matsumoto did in Movie 1; transporting the King's Seal in Movie 2 (and literally everything else about that movie); running around Rukongai with the 11th in Movie 3; Hell Gate shenanigans in Movie 4; taking care of the 11th during the Bount Arc, etc.) The Gotei seems to have generally pretty low standards as far as what you can get away with and what your reputation can weather (unless Hollowfication is involved), but that is a whole lot of nonsense with no inherent payoff. The most motley resume, the results of most of which were poor to middling! No political strategist in their right mind would advise any of this. (Luckily this is not a job that is appears anyone has ever heard of in the Gotei.)
But basically everyone respects and trusts him! Not just to put in the time and do the work off on his own where they don't have to deal with it. Other captains are out here regularly taking orders from Hitsugaya in Bleach filler. I don't actually think we as an audience have ever witnessed a reason why they should, but they don't seem to have any reservations about it. I'd say it's because none of them have any concept of political strategy either but I think half of them actually do?? And yet. I feel like this is like the one thing Hitsugaya puts zero thought into and ends up reaping huge dividends from, at the same time as a lot of the things he actually works for are doing their damndest to not pay off. Just to spite him, probably.

Gina would be a scented candle that smells like some type of baked good with cinnamon or some other spice and it would have one of those wooden wicks that crackle as it burns
Ashlyn would be a floral scent with a hint of something smoky but it'd be a wax melt not a candle

I'm positive Ashlyn had a tumblr and it was full of tarot readings and astrology and queer icons. She'd also reblog cute animals and quotes about love and stuff. Oh and she posts lyrics all the time without context. Moon being her middle name would come into play a lot. Maybe her url or something.
Gina would have the most elaborate and curated tumblr ever. She moved so many times its a nice little constant. She posts a lot about her travels and dancing. Her url is adancersheart and she used to reblog really sad and lonely text posts. There are also a lot of knitting tutorials.
35. Their idea of a perfect day
I think for both of them they've experienced their perfect day plenty of times.
Any time Gina can be around her favorite people (her mom, Ricky, Ashlyn etc) she's happy. And her senior year is really a dream come true isn't it? Everyone she loves is close by and she's starring in a movie??
Ashlyn prefers to spend her days with Maddox and/or Gina. Her two people she can be completely herself with. I'm talking captain of the robotics team seasoned larper musical genius triple threat talented Ashlyn. She can be her entire self.
But also watching movies and working on a musical are their favorite things to do. They're surrounded by love and creativity. It's what they deserve.

hsdioahoias argh I want to write so bad but I was LARPing this past weekend (which was a ton of fun!) and last Thursday I learned that THIS Thursday I've been invited on a family trip for 9 days which I CAN make and would LIKE to make and so I will be GONE for that time (also unable to write) AND I'm running around like crazy making arrangements before the trip lol
So it's a bit crazy here right now! But I've got a lot of story ideas :3 Hopefully I can get SOMETHING out before I leave!

Monchu: 9/10 I love hatesex and terrible relationships and watching divorced people argue about divorced people things.
Tibmon: 100/10 this is endgame for me. Tibet is his weird girlhusband. Show some deference to your spiritual leader™ Mr Mongolia
Turkmon: 2/10 I really don't think Mongolia cares about Turkey that much sorry. Turkey tries to LARP as a steppe nomad to get Mongolia's attention and he probably finds it annoying. Though this could be funny so that's why it's a 2/10
Monpan: 7/10 I need them to be angry naked wrestling together right now actually. Bear on bear lurveee
Kormon: 6/10 they have some pretty interesting history together also South Korea has Mongolia in a chokehold right now when it comes to K dramas and the amount of Korean stores and products in Mongolia. Only getting a 6 because I haven't had much interest in it so far.
NKmon: 7/10 ok so this could also be quite interesting as NK does actually have a pretty good relationship with Mongolia and they have a shared history when it comes to communism. I've heard it be called a "special relationship" because Mongolia manages to keep good ties with both North and South Korea without really stepping on either of their toes. I should probably explore it more
Rusmon: 5/10 So this could either be done really well or really badly depending on who's handling it lol. I do like how complicated the relationship between them is and I sort of have an idea of what my interpretation is but unfortunately I got turned off from wanting to explore it more fully. So only 5/10 from me. Maybe some day
Monviet: 5/10 there's a very specific AU I have which I think their relationship is funny in but I'm. Not giving the details here it's way too raunchy. Sorry. Other than than I think it has the potential to be an interesting relationship especially considering modern history
Indmon: 7/10 I need India to serve Mongolia food that will destroy his intestines please thank you
Tuvmon: 8/10 they have a long history together and I need to watch them arguing over who's the better throat singer. For research purposes. Also Mongolia unironically believing that Tuva has a stealing problem makes me cackle

aHA bet you weren’t expecting an External Perspective in the form of Annie Montgomery were you? ...I haven’t actually finished writing the next page which I was supposed to do while I was on winter break :’ ) so it might take a little longer than these past few pages.
Notes below
- I think Annie and Ben have an interesting dynamic which i touched on in the dominion day ep for procan. These two Atlantic island provinces both refused to join Canada in 1867; nowadays they are both struggling with aging populations, isolation, etc.
- Likewise I think Annie and Joel have an interesting relationship, they are canonically siblings for one, and having read their histories I think they have a chaotic but loving relationship that might not match the expectation. I think we tend to think of Joel as the party guy and Annie as the traditionalist, and while that may be true in their relationships with outsiders I think Annie is actually the loose cannon of the two that Joel is constantly trying to rein in a little. This is just based on the vibes I got reading about how each of them acquired responsible government, haha. Joel was the favoured imperial child while Annie was the one throwing bricks through windows.
- i am not unaware that Team Steak and Potatoes (AB/PEI) was a huge ship back in the IAMP days I just have no idea how to write it so you’d have to squint pretty darn hard :’ )
- re: annie’s outfit: i think because her day job involves larping as anne of green gables she needs a casual wardrobe that could fit in with the overall aesthetic but without being trapped in it if that makes sense (have i mentioned her internal struggle with hair dye yet?). The fox hat and clip on collar are references to the provincial animal - black and silver foxes were bred for their coats on the island around the turn of the century and I don’t doubt she still has some items trimmed with their fur.
- “slippy” and “been better but it costs more” are apparently both Islander phrases, hope I didn’t make her sound too hokey either. I’ve got to add some dialogue flavour and difference when I can; I can’t do it much for Bert because I already read his voice with High School Alberta Boy accent (a voice i don’t actually really do as his VA oops) and it drives me nuts.
