I sit beneath the boughs
Golden fruit of the crown
Seeking knowledge of life
From the feather to the knife
Music, one, attune to magic
A song calls and Mystra answers
Before that, the farming hands
Toil by day, heaving pastures
Then formulas, systems and patterns
Add up the sigils, words of power
Bring the elements together
And let magic be your tether
Learn from the forests,
Not just from the schools
Emotions felt so strongly
To become natural tools
The tree's seance beckons
A legacy of the divine
Nature's passage through me
Call upon leaf and vine
What will I find next?
For there is still so much to learn
I now can fight where once I fled
But for even more I will always yearn

one of my favorite things is elves having base 8 math. so you can have Situations™️ when someone in the dragang has a birthday. take for instance this hypothetical
Rayla: I'm so glad my parents and Runaan are back! And just in time for my twenty-fourth birthday!
Callum: your WHAT.
Rayla: My birthday!
Callum: no hold up a second. go back. you're HOW OLD???
Callum: so you were. you were twenty when we first started dating?
Rayla: yes? Is something wrong?
Callum: I was FIFTEEN
Rayla:
Rayla: WHAT?!?!?! How-- who-- what-- I think I'm going to be sick. You seemed older than that! I can't believe I-- so that means now you're--
Callum: Nineteen.

#and they both think the age gap is/was weird for about five minutes before they talk about it and realize they are in fact almost the same#age they just do math different#(explanation: base 8 math mean you count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 10. so 10 is equivalent to 8 in base 10 (which is what we use)#and 20 is equivalent to 16. the word nineteen does not exist. what is called nineteen in base ten is called 23 in base 8.#so 24 in base 8 equals 20 in base 10. 15 in base 8 equals 13 in base 10. WIP Wednesday - 9/27/23 (Closed)| Math Nerd AU
No amount of childproof lock would stop Neil if he wanted to be out of a car. "Andrew, nothing happened." Neil insists and Andrew turns away from staring Moreau down waiting to see the grey pools break with a revelation.
"I thought you would be safe." Andrew hisses pushing Neil down back into the car. He watches Neil's reaction and he doesn't flinch as his ass hit the car seat but it hardly meant a thing.
"I never made that promise with you Andrew." Neil reminds him as if Andrew would forget a revelation from under an hour ago.
"I only let you go because I thought you had." Andrew hisses.
"Andrew, I'm fine." Neil says looking up at him as if he didn't have a split lip, an emblem punched into his cheek, and a limp.
He sees an overlay of Neil. Burn marks, cuts, bruises "They could have blinded you." ringing in his ears as Neil reaches out to touch his cheek.
Andrew blinks and the overlay is gone.
