Rooster was busy, well,sort of. He had Nicole on his chest, basically sitting on his stomach as she sucked on her bottle. Her father was playing Call of Duty with the guys, it’s been a long while since he did anything of the sort.

Jake and Coyote were the only ones online since everyone else was at the bar.

“I thought you’d go with Bea tonight.” he hears Coyote through the headset, “Since it’s her first night back after giving birth to the kids.”

Rooster leaned back slightly on the couch, trying to get comfortable with Nicole on his chest while still holding the controller. "Yeah," he replied, "And who’d be with Nicole?"

“You could always ask her parents,” Jake adds

“Would you do that? Talk with Cyclone since he is your father in law?” silence, ‘I didn’t think so. Besides, her parents need a break from grandchildren. Plus I don’t mind staying with Nikki.”

“Wait,Nikki is there?”

Rooster looks down at his daughter who’s happily eating - holding the bottle by herself too - while keeping her eye on the…constant shooting going on in front of her, “Yeah, she’s with me.” he frowns, “Maybe this wasn’t a good idea. Playing a violent war game while she’s here…”

Coyote chuckled on the other end of the headset. "Yeah, probably not the best idea, Rooster," he said, his tone amused. "I mean, she's not even a year old yet, and you've got her witnessing virtual warfare."

Rooster sighed and set down his controller, carefully lifting Nicole from his chest. "You're right," he admitted. "I'll just have to stick to more baby-friendly games when she's around."

Jake chimed in with a grin in his voice. "Or you could give her a controller that's not connected and let her pretend to play. Start training her early!"

Rooster couldn't help but laugh at the suggestion. "Maybe in a few years," he replied but Nicole appeared very interested in that idea. ‘...hm.” he did place the other controller in front of her as she leaned back on the couch, her light green eyes staring down at it before she slapped her hands on it repeatedly.

The clicking and wobbling sound was enough to keep her distracted, so Rooster decided that he could go back to the game after a few seconds. She was just by his left after all. “Alright,” he says, placing the headset back on, “I’m back on it,guys.”

Rooster settled back into the game, the sounds of gunfire and explosions filling his ears as he engaged in virtual warfare with his friends. Nicole, on the other hand, was fascinated by the controller in front of her, her tiny hands batting at the buttons and joysticks. Rooster couldn't help but steal a glance at her every now and then, making sure she was content and safe.

As the game progressed, Rooster's focus shifted entirely to the action on the screen. He was deep in concentration, strategizing with Jake and Coyote as they navigated the game. The headset buzzed with their voices, coordinating their moves and communicating with the rest of their team.

Nicole, on the other hand, had grown tired of the controller and was now happily babbling to herself, seemingly entertained by the sights and sounds of the game. Rooster couldn't help but smile at her antics, even as he continued to play.

The game was intense, and the competition was fierce. Rooster's heart raced as he engaged in virtual battles, his reflexes put to the test.

At one point, Nicole decided to try her hand at crawling, and Rooster glanced down just in time to see her little hands and knees on the floor. He quickly paused the game and gently scooped her up, placing her back on his lap. "No crawling during game time, little one," he said with a chuckle, earning a gurgling response from Nicole.

Coyote's voice came through the headset. "Everything okay over there, Rooster?"

Rooster nodded, his attention divided between the game and Nicole. "Yeah, just a baby on the move," he replied. "I've got it under control."

Jake laughed. "You're in for a whole new level of multitasking, my friend."

“Why?” he asks, setting Nicole next to him, ‘Jake Jr. being a handful?”

“Still can’t believe you naked your son after you.”

“Shut up,Coyote. Also yes, he’s barely a few weeks old and he’s…loud.” Jake replies just as he shoots a few other enemies “A few days ago he started crying and when I went to check on him, nothing was wrong. He just stopped when Evelyn showed up.”

Rooster chuckled at Jake's comment. "Sounds like he knows how to keep you on your toes," he said, his eyes darting back to the game screen as he resumed playing. "And hey, he's just following in his old man's footsteps, causing a ruckus."

Coyote chimedin. "Must be a family trait, then," he said, his character in the game providing covering fire for Rooster's advance. "Also Jake Jr. is a mama’s boy, that’s obvious.”

“I hate you two.”

“Love you too,Jake.”

With the conversation being so light, Rooster didn’t want to ruin with what he wanted to ask. In fact, he pondered if he should…but what happened between Mark and McAllister bothered him to no end, he really wanted his friends’ opinions on it.

Coyote's character was in the middle of a firefight when Rooster finally broached the topic. "Hey, guys," he began tentatively, "I wanted to talk to you about something."

Coyote glanced at Rooster's character on the screen while still keeping his trigger finger busy. "Shoot, what's on your mind, Rooster?" he snorts “Get it? Shoot,hahah.”

Jake, on the other hand, was fully engaged in the game, tossing grenades and taking down enemies with precision. "Yeah, man, spill the beans," he said, his focus unwavering.

Rooster took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "So, you remember Mark Halton, right?" he began, keeping his voice low so as not to disturb Nicole, who was now attempting to stack her building blocks on the couch.

"Of course," Coyote replied. "Who doesn’t?"

"Well, something weird happened the other day. He invited Bea and me to dinner at his place with his wife, Miranda. It was...odd. But I told you guys about that already, it’s about him trying to befriend McAllister and the other recruits."

Coyote’s character popping out from cover to take out an enemy. "What's the deal with this guy, anyway? There's something fishy going on."

Rooster nodded, his character in the game moving cautiously through a virtual warzone as he continued to explain. "Yeah, that's the thing. It's not just the dinner itself; it's the way he's been acting. And McAllister said that he thought him and I were friends."

Jake snorted over the headset “Yeah,right," he commented. "Why would he be so interested in McAllister and the others? And what's in it for him?"

"That's what I can't figure out," Rooster admitted, his character's movements mirroring his contemplation, he just kept himself hidden for the time being. "I mean, it could be harmless, but something about it just feels off."

Coyote took a moment to reload his virtual weapon before responding. "I don’t think it’s like that man. Didn’t you also say he was kind of hounding Mav too?"

Rooster leaned back on his couch, rubbing his temples. "Yeah. He was. Mav was…he didn’t like it,” his uncle used other words but wouldn’t be too far behind, “You guys know how he is, he doesn’t like the whole fanfare about his accomplishments.”

Coyote's character moved in-game, expertly dodging enemy fire as he spoke. "Yeah, Mav's always been low-key about stuff. Doesn't like the spotlight."

Jake's character was still dishing out damage left and right. "So, this Halton dude is all over the place, trying to buddy up with Mav and inviting you guys for dinner. What's his game, though?"

"That's the million-dollar question," Rooster replied, his virtual character sneaking up behind an enemy and taking them down with a silent takedown. "He's been acting really friendly, but it feels forced, you know? And he's got this way of making you feel like you owe him something."

Coyote hummed , taking cover behind a virtual crate. "I get it. Like he's buttering you up for something, but you're not sure what."

“I…guess?” Rooster says quietly, “But I don’t get it, he’s been hounding me,Mav and everyone else for weeks now…and Miranda annoys Bea to now end, I have to say, she even talked back to that woman at dinner.”

Coyote's character expertly maneuvered through the warzone, taking down enemies left and right. "Yeah, that Miranda woman sounds like a piece of work," he commented, his voice filled with irritation. "I can't stand people who think they're better than everyone else."

Rooster's character was providing cover fire as he responded, his mind still troubled by the situation. "I don't know, guys. It's all just so strange. He acts like we're old buddies or something, but I barely know the guy."

Jake’s character tossed another grenade, taking out a group of virtual enemies. "You should be careful, man," he cautioned. "Don’t give them too much ground to maneuver."

Rooster nodded in agreement, his character switching to a sniper rifle as they moved to a vantage point. "Yeah, I've got that feeling too," he admitted. "But what could he possibly want from us? We're just regular people living our lives."

Coyote’s character led the charge again, pushing forward in the game. "Well, we're not just regular people, Rooster. You're a respected officer in the Navy, Mav is a decorated war hero, and we're all part of a tight-knit community. Maybe he's after connections or something."

Jake chimed in after killing a few more people "That could be it. Maybe he sees us as a way to climb some social or career ladder."

Rooster's character took out an enemy sniper with a well-placed shot. "It's possible, but it still doesn't explain the weird dinner invitation and all the other stuff. And why is he so fixated on McAllister and the other recruits?"

“Hell if I know.”

“Well,” Coyote begins “You lead McAllister’s squad at the last mission when uhhh…Jaws and Raptor fucked up.”

"Yeah," he responded thoughtfully, "I unfortunately remember that day.."

Jake's character managed to kill three people in one go and he couldn’t help the delighted ‘woo!’ before he spoke again. "Doesn’t make a lot of sense honestly.”

“It doesn’t.” Rooster agrees, sighing through his nose while looking over at Nicole. His daughter was still happily playing with her blocks on the couch, with Eleanor coming over to sniff her before she trotted off to bark at the door, “Seems too much, I mean,we both are pilots. We are both in the Navy…what else would there be to talk about? Do you…guys think he’s jealous?

“Maybe.”

“Yeah,maybe. I mean, I won’t lie Rooster, he did try to talk to everyone at some point,isn’t that right Jake?” Jake hums positively on the headset “And we don’t really know how to talk to the guy, especially since we heard from you that he has family on the higher ups. Do we even know who it could be?’

The virtual battleground around them was a chaotic mix of explosions, gunfire, and shouts, but their discussion carried on uninterrupted through their headsets.

Chaos everywhere it seemed.

"Yeah, you're right," Rooster replied, his character maintaining a vigilant watch over the battlefield. "It's strange how he's so… fixated is all."

Coyote then asked, “...you guys think he’s going to join us in the coming deployment?”

Silence for a few seconds.

Then Jake replies with “I guess so? I haven’t seen anything in the file though.”

“Lovely.” Rooster mutters while moving the joystick about, “I mean,I’ll be doing my job like I always do but, he better not act how he did at dinner.” he says, “Him and his wife already bothered me and Bea enough.” he then sighs, checking the time and then looking back at Nicole, “Guys, quick break,Nikki has to eat.”

“Yeah,me too man.”

“I have to check on the little man.” Jake says, his voice growing distant but he kept explaining how Jake Jr. was a bit fussy that night. Rooster, once he’s done playing, stretches his arms above his head and groans happily, rubbing his face with both hands before looking back at Nicole.

She was still happily playing, bottle empty and forgotten by her side as she balances the blocks on the futon, only looking back when she felt eyes on her, “Dada!” she giggles, then points at the ‘sculpture’ she just made with pride…and a lot of baby noises.

"Hey there, birdie," Rooster cooed, brushing a lock of hair from Nicole's face. "You're quite the artist, aren't you?Just like mama." He admired the block arrangement she had crafted, feigning astonishment with a playful gasp. Nicole giggled in response, her bright eyes filled with joy.

"Yeah, you've got some serious talent," Rooster continued, grinning as he played along with her. "I think you've outdone Picasso with this one, sweetheart." he frowns, “Did Picasso sculpt? I gotta ask Bea when she gets back. But now-” he picks Nicole up and stands from the couch,”Time for your dinner, baby girl.”

Rooster cradled Nicole in his arms as he made his way to the kitchen, leaving behind the virtual battlefield.

Rooster gently set Nicole down in her high chair, strapping her in securely. Her small hands reached out, grasping at the colorful toys hanging from the tray of the chair, a little world of her own.

As Rooster prepared Nicole's dinner, he couldn't help but check his phone for any message from Bea. He was aware it was about time for her break, so they could talk a little bit before she got back to work.

Her message popped a few seconds after

Bea (20:09)

Hi Roos! Everything is great! The bar is packed but I’m not as rusty as I thought i was.I’m still serving people as before ! How are you and Nikki? Everything alright?

Roos (20:10)

We're good over here, gorgeous. Nicole just created a masterpiece with her building blocks, and now she's eagerly waiting for her dinner. How's the crowd at the bar tonight? Any interesting stories?

Bea (20:11)

Haha, sounds like you two are having fun! Oh, you know, the usual mix of characters at the bar. There's a group of regulars playing darts in the corner, and there's this guy who keeps insisting he can sing like Sinatra and trying to touch the piano. It's always entertaining, that's for sure.

Rooster couldn't help but smile at Bea's response. Even though they were physically apart, it felt like she was right there with him, sharing the little moments of their lives.

Or maybe,just maybe, he was clingy and needed his wife.

Roos (20:13)

I wish I could be there to hear Sinatra wannabe and tell him to not touch the piano because that’s my thing. Nicole misses her mama, though. She keeps pointing at your picture on the fridge and saying, "Mama."

Bea (20:15)

Aww, my heart! Tell Nicole that Mama misses her too, and I'll be home before she knows it.

As Rooster finished preparing Nicole's dinner—a small bowl of mashed sweet potatoes and peas— he glanced at Nicole and whispered, "Mama will be home soon, baby girl." Nicole responded with a toothy grin, her eyes still fixated on the colorful toys.

Roos (20:17)

I'll be sure to pass on the message. Can't wait for you to be back home with us. By the way, did Picasso sculpt anything? You are the one with a degree in visual arts and you are smart with that part.

Bea (20:19)

Yes, he had a few done. Why?

Roos (20:21)

I called Nikki Picasso and I didn’t even know if I should,heh.

Bea (20:23)

Haha! Well, Picasso is a pretty cool nickname, I must say. Maybe she'll be the next artistic genius in the family.

Roos (20:25)

Wouldn't be surprised if she was. She's got her mama's talent, that's for sure.

Bea (20:27)

Flatterer. Anything else going on?

Roos (20:29)

Well, besides Nicole's newfound talent as a block architect, not much happening on my end. Just the usual work stuff, you know how it is. But I just played some Call of Duty with the guys…and yeah that’s it.

Beatrice hummed on the other end and he knew she didn’t believe him, he still had to share about what Mark did at the base when she gets back.

Well,alright…hey,can you come pick me up? Shells is leaving early and she was my ride until then.

I was really surprised by that, but I guess I shouldn't be? I always take for granted that my most "popular" fic on AO3 (and probably FFnet too) is Villains (my "the Flash's Rogues react to the events of the JLU Cadmus arc finale" fic) - but it's a one-shot, while FTaH has 24 chapters and is 162k words long. Hopefully it means people come back until they have finished reading it?

• Second Most Kudos: Reading the Colours (TMNT 2012) (220 kudos)

Aww 💜 I've seen vowels with the same colours since before I can remember (like, for me "A" is red, "E" is pink/purple, "I" is yellow, "O" is blue and "U" is green and I have no idea why) I and I thought that might be a good trait to give 2012 Mikey.

Republicans this week clinched a majority in the US House of Representatives after claiming their 218th seat in the 435-member body, flipping the lower chamber from the Democratic Party more than a week after the midterm election.

But despite their newfound House majority, the GOP will have a razor-thin edge, with the party currently holding a 219-211 advantage with just a handful of races left to call.

And according to GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois — a prominent member of the House January 6 Committee who's retiring at the end of the current Congress — the party will have a "totally nonfunctional majority" once the new session convenes in January 2023.

Kinzinger, who spoke on Charlie Sykes' Bulwark podcast about the internal dynamics within the GOP caucus, including the challenges that Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California faces in rounding up the requisite 218 votes to earn the speaker's gavel on the floor House floor, said that Democrats would need to be strategic about the situation if they hoped to block a McCarthy speakership.

"When there's a 15, 20 person majority, it takes a lot of people to deny the future Speaker his votes. But when it's just like three, four, five you can find it – which is why I think the Democrats need to be really thinking about, and thinking about working people like AOC and some of those that are never going to vote for a Republican — find a Republican that is agreeable, try to find a couple of Republicans that are in elected office, and then vote for that person for Speaker," he said.

Kinzinger, who was first elected in 2010 and was formerly close to McCarthy, slammed his onetime friend who is navigating a delicate situation of trying to appease far-right, mainstream conservative, and moderate members of his caucus with a thin majority — a tough prospect for any Republican lawmaker in leadership.

"This couldn't happen to a nicer guy," Kinzinger quipped. "I used to be great friends with Kevin McCarthy. He's been the biggest disappointment of my life."

He then went on to criticize Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, who replaced Liz Cheney as the chair of the House Republican Conference last year after the Wyoming congresswoman repeatedly spoke out against former President Donald Trump's debunked election claims and his role on January 6, 2021.

"Let's look at Elise Stefanik, who I think is probably thinking, 'Ok, if Kevin goes down, I can be the next speaker.' Right away, having the lack of a red wave, she already tweets out her endorsement of Donald Trump. Like, how pathetic can you get, by the way? How obvious can you get?" he said.

"Here's the dynamics in the caucus. Yes, Andy Biggs [of Arizona] is going to run against him, which is meaningless because Kevin will get a majority of the caucus," he continued to say. "Suppose they end up with 220 people. He needs 111. That'll be done. The question then is whether you can get to 218 on the floor, because that's what you'll need."

"That's where you can extract power. Why is Marjorie Taylor Greene super supportive of Kevin? She doesn't like Kevin. He's promised something to her. I guarantee you. Why is Matt Gaetz against Marjorie Taylor Greene? Because probably Kevin McCarthy has yet to promise him anything, and secondarily, he wants to be more famous than Marjorie Taylor Greene," he added.

'EACH PERSON NOW HAS THE POWER OF A SENATOR'

Kinzinger then blasted the ultraconservative Freedom Caucus as the "Freedom Club," and said for many of their members, their ideology has "never been principle-based" but rooted in gaining fame.

The Illinois congressman reiterated that McCarthy — if he becomes speaker — will have his hands full as members in a 220-or-221-member GOP caucus will effectively have veto power over most legislation.

"It's a totally nonfunctional majority because — I've lived this — where [Republicans] want to defund Obamacare. 'Well, we don't defund it enough.' Or if we want to just pass the budget, we have to defund Obamacare because there's 10 Republicans that are willing to vote 'no' on a conservative bill so we don't have enough people to get it done. If you're down to one or two people, each person now has the power of a senator," he said.

"It will be an unfunctional majority, and Kevin will probably be the equivalent of the dog who caught the car," he added.

Kinzinger said that past GOP speakers had remarkable legislative skills, but still struggled to round up votes on several key issues even with larger caucus sizes.

"[John] Boehner was one of the best at cutting deals. He struggled. Paul Ryan knew policy. He was a moderate, good guy. He struggled," the congressman said. "Kevin McCarthy is going to have trouble."

Bianca’s chaos hasn’t changed since he met her four years ago. She was just taller and a bit older, but she was still that same little girl. He looked inside the guest bedroom where the two girls napped, even if the trip wasn’t long they were too young to stay awake, while Beatrice checked on Nikki.

He looks up when he hears his wife’s footsteps coming down the stairs, “Still asleep?”

“Like a rock, and them?”

“Honestly if there was an earthquake I doubt they’d wake up.” he smiles, gently shutting the door behind him as she approaches. He sighs, hugging Beatrice close and propping his chin on top of her head.

“You okay?’ she asks quietly, gently touching his chest with her palm, turning her eyes up towards him.

He was okay, he just…had some thoughts in his mind, ‘Yeah,” he whispered, “Let’s go to the living room so the girls can sleep and we can have some privacy,” he coos,kissing the top of her head. He holds her hand as the two walk towards the living room, leaving the sleeping kids alone.

Once they settled on the couch, Rooster wrapped an arm around Beatrice's shoulders, pulling her close. Beatrice snuggled into the comfort of his embrace, her head resting against his chest. “So,” she begins, propping her chin on the valley of his pectorals, “What’s got you quiet?”

Rooster sighed, his fingers idly tracing patterns on Beatrice's arm as he collected his thoughts. "I think I’m reminiscing," he admitted, his voice soft and introspective. "I mean, look at our Bianca. She grew up so fast,I met her and she barely reached my knees and now she’s just…tall.

Beatrice nodded in agreement, her fingers lightly tracing circles on Rooster's chest as she listened intently. "I know what you mean. It's like we blinked, and they went from tiny babies to these little whirlwinds of energy."

Rooster chuckled at the description, "Yeah,” his head turned towards her, “You think Nikki will be the same?”

Beatrice raised her head to meet Rooster's gaze, her green eyes staring back at him, “Well, they are her cousins, so I assume they’ll be quite an influence on her.” she pauses, “But…honestly,I think Nicole will be exactly like you.”

“Me?”

“Yep, you.”

He playfully squinted his eyes at her, “Elaborate.”

Beatrice grinned mischievously, lifting her head slightly to meet Rooster's gaze. "Well," she began, her voice filled with playful affection, "Nicole already has your smile, and I have a feeling she's going to inherit your sense of adventure."

“Hm."

"Yeah," Beatrice continued, her fingers lightly tracing patterns on Rooster's chest. " I think Nicole will have that same spirit."

Rooster's smile was small but he appreciated her words. "...and the twins? What do you think they’ll be like? I mean, we can already see some of their personalities even if they are preemies.”

Beatrice’s eyes dropped to her hands, her voice soft and filled with love. "Well,Aurora is a bit more active than Gavin." she whispers, “They are uh…they kinda remind me of myself? A little? Well Gavin does.”

Rooster gently tilted Beatrice's chin up, so her eyes met his once more. "Yeah, Aurora is quite the firecracker," he agreed with a soft smile. "And Gavin, well, he's got that calm and observant demeanor. Just like his mom."

Beatrice blushed at his words, a warm feeling spreading through her. "I guess you're right," she admitted. "It's incredible how much we can already see of their personalities, even at this age." she whispers, playing with his shirt, “...are you counting the days for them to be home?”

Rooster inhales quietly, hugging her waist, “Yeah.” he says quietly, “Going to the NICU is good but…yeah,I can’t wait. They might be here after my promotion.”

Beatrice's fingers traced the contours of Rooster's chest as she listened to his thoughts about their premature twins. The neonatal intensive care unit had become a familiar place for them over the past few weeks, but the anticipation of bringing their babies home was growing stronger with each passing day.

"I know," Beatrice replied softly, her voice filled with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. "It'll be a big adjustment, but I can't wait to have our entire family under one roof." she allows herself to be wrapped by his arms even tighter, “I mean, we–I just want them here.”

“Have you been having any nightmares?”

Beatrice shakes her head while chewing her lip, “Not anymore- wait, how do you know?”

Rooster’s eyes turn soft as he smiled down at her, “Don’t you remember?.”

He was still awake by the time he hears it. He stops reading the files on his computer, turning his head up towards the second floor with his brows furrowing in confusion. He looks around, seeing that no dog was close to him and he immediately fears that Nikki is hurt and they are trying to warn him.

He pushes himself away from his desk, head still looking up as he continues hearing the sounds. It’s like a…whimpering? A crying almost. He takes a few seconds to identify the voice, it could be either Nicole or the dogs, he couldn’t be sure yet. The voice became clearer as he reached the top of the stairs.

His eyes widened.

Beatrice.

He is hurriedly making his way to their bedroom, pushing the door open and standing there for a few seconds, eyes adjusting to the dark and the faint streak of light illuminating their covers from the outside. Beatrice was moving on the bed, breathing heavily, whimpering, crying, kicking the sheets out of her once it got too much to bear.

Rooster's heart clenched in his chest as he watched Beatrice's restless movements on the bed. Her distress was evident, and he felt a deep sense of fear wash over him. He rushed to her side, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Bea," he whispered, but she kept writhing about. He gave her a gentle shake, hoping to rouse her from whatever nightmare had gripped her.”Bea, gorgeous.” he tries again, a bit harder this time.

Beatrice's eyes snap open, her breathing still labored. She stared up at Rooster, her gaze unfocused and filled with confusion, irises moving around the room. It took a moment for her to register her surroundings.

"Wha–who…” she whips her head around, “Where?”

Rooster let out a sigh of relief at the sound of her voice. He stroked her hair gently, trying to comfort her. "You were having a nightmare, babe. It's okay now. You're safe." but her eyes were unfocused, making Bradley’s eyes narrow in suspicion, “Bea?” she clenched his fingers when they reached her hand.

Rooster continued to stroke Beatrice's hair, his touch gentle and reassuring. He could see the confusion and distress in her eyes as she struggled to come fully awake. Her grip on his fingers was firm, a lifeline in the darkness of her nightmare.

Beatrice blinked several times, trying to bring her surroundings into focus. The details of the dream still clung to her like a heavy fog, making it difficult to distinguish between reality and the remnants of her sleep-induced terror.

"It was just a bad dream, Bea," Rooster repeated softly, his voice a soothing presence in the darkness. "You're here with me. We're safe at home."

Beatrice's breathing gradually steadied as the remnants of the nightmare began to fade. She squeezed Rooster's hand tightly, grounding herself in the warmth and familiarity of his touch.

After a few more moments, Beatrice finally managed to find her voice. Her voice was still shaky as she spoke. "I... I can't even remember what it was about," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Rooster brushed his thumb gently across her cheek, wiping away a stray tear. "That's okay, babe," he reassured her. "Sometimes dreams can be like that. All that matters is that you're safe now."

“...kay.” she looked exhausted, eyelids slowly going down and then widening, “...Brad.”

“Yeah?”

“...I want the twins home.”

Rooster’s mouth parted, what could he answer to that? They weren’t there yet, they had to wait…was that what the nightmare was about? “Baby,” he tries, wetting his lips with his tongue, “Baby they are the NICU,remember? They can’t come home yet.”

Beatrice's eyes remained fixed on Rooster, her expression was so confused. The desire to have their twins home, safe and sound, was an understandable and natural one. She had carried them for months, feeling their every movement and heartbeat within her, and now they were separated from her.

Rooster gently stroked her cheek, trying to convey his understanding. "I know it's hard, babe," he said softly, "but the NICU is the best place for them right now. The doctors and nurses are taking great care of them. They just need a little more time. You understand that,right?"

Beatrice nodded slowly, her eyes welling up with tears. "Yeah…I…” and she flops on his chest, Rooster was quick enough to wrap his arms around her and widen his eyes.

“Baby!” he calls, tilting her head up to check her face…and she was fast asleep. He let out a relieved sigh,closing his eyes while keeping Beatrice, now completely asleep, on his chest, “...gorgeous, shit, don’t scare me.” he got no response except for a quiet little snore from his wife.

Rooster carefully adjusted his position on the bed, ensuring that Beatrice was comfortably nestled against his chest. Her deep, even breathing indicated that she had fallen into a peaceful sleep, the remnants of her nightmare and the worries about their twins momentarily forgotten.

He gazed down at Beatrice's sleeping form, her face relaxed and serene. He was just glad she was asleep. Rooster gently brushed a strand of hair away from Beatrice's face, his fingers lingering on her cheek. He made sure to keep himself around her until he fell asleep himself.

Those files could wait.

“Oh.”

He arches his brows at her, “You really don’t remember that night,huh?” he smiles, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, admiring her bewildered face, “You rarely have nightmares,Bea. In fact I can count the amount of times you had bad dreams.”

Recognition dawned in her eyes, and she blushed in embarrassment. "Oh, that night," she said sheepishly, her cheeks turning a shade of pink. "I must have completely blocked it out. I felt so silly for waking you up."

Rooster's smile remained warm and understanding. "You don't have to feel silly, babe. Nightmares can be pretty unsettling. I'm always here for you, no matter what."

Beatrice snuggled closer to Rooster, finding comfort in his embrace. "Thank you Roos.” she smiles, hugging his torso, “...I…well, you know, it’s…it’s been a ride,huh?”

“It has, but I’m not complaining.” he smirks, only leaning down to kiss her head, “...I know how terrifying those things can be.” he mutters, leaning back on the couch while keeping his hand on her hair, “I’m just glad my own nightmares stopped after…so long.”

"I'm so sorry you had to go through that," she whispered, “I know it’s been hard…but therapy has been helping,right?”

Rooster gave her a sad smile, his fingers gently tracing patterns on her back. “Yep, it sure has.” he looks down at his phone to check the time, then purses his lips, “We still have time for everything we have planned so…nap?”

“God,I’d love that.”

“Bianca, calm down.” their oldest niece was jumping up and down next to Beatrice as Rooster held Nicole and closed the car. Beatrice was with Éowyn in her grasp as she tries to keep up with Bianca, who was way too excited to try Mexican food for the very first time.

They went back to Rooster’s favorite food truck, the same one they were during their dating years. It had more people now, but it was still the same, “Auntie!” she points at a picture on the truck, ‘That’s guacamole!”

"That's right, Bianca," Beatrice said, her voice filled with affection. "That's guacamole, and it's delicious. You're going to love it."

Rooster joined the conversation, balancing Nicole in one arm as he bent down to Bianca's eye level. "And don't forget to try the salsa, kiddo. It's got a little kick to it, but it's the best."

Bianca's eyes widened with curiosity. "Really, Uncle Rooster? I like spicy!"

“You do?” Rooster grinned, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. "Well, then you're in for a treat, kiddo."

As they approached the food truck, the delicious aroma of Mexican cuisine filled the air. The sizzle of meat on the grill and the sound of tortillas being warmed made Beatrice's mouth water with anticipation. She held Éowyn securely in her arms, ensuring her little niece didn't get lost in the crowd.

Bianca eagerly pointed to the menu items, her excitement growing with each passing moment. "Auntie Bea, what should I try first?"

Beatrice glanced at the menu, considering the options. "How about starting with a classic beef taco? You can't go wrong with that."

Bianca nodded enthusiastically. "Okay, one beef taco, please!"

Rooster placed their order with the food truck vendor when they all sat down. Beatrice made sure that both Éowyn and Nicole were seated close by and Bianca…well…Bianca was standing close to Rooster,ordering everything she found appetizing.

“Uncle Roos.”

“Yes?”

She stands on her tiptoes to see the inside better, “What’s he doing?” she asks while checking on the people working there, “It smells good.”

Rooster chuckled, bending down slightly to be at Bianca's eye level. "He's cooking up all that delicious food, kiddo," he explained. "They're making the tacos right now, and that's what's creating that amazing smell."

Bianca wrinkled her nose in delight, taking in the mouthwatering aroma. "I can't wait to try them! Is it spicy?"

Rooster considered her question. "Some of the dishes might have a little kick to them, but we'll make sure to get something that's not too spicy for you." she makes a face, “Well,you like spice so we can level it up a bit.”

Bianca nodded in agreement, her excitement undiminished. She kept bouncing on the spot, grinning from ear to ear, “Uncle Roos!”

“Yeah?”

“Why aren’t my little cousins with us yet?” she asks, innocently, while looking at him, “The twins?”

"Well, kiddo," he began, "the twins are still too little to come out with us. They need to stay at the hospital, until they are fully grown.” he checked on Beatrice as he answers her, exhaling in relief because at least she wouldn’t have to…answer this instead. He knew how much it’d upset her.

“Ohhh,cause they are preemies,right?’ she asks sweetly, then gives him a little grin showing the front teeth missing, “Like me! I was a preemie! My daddy told me. Éowyn isn’t a preemie.” she mutters, propping her chin on the truck’s window to watch the inside, “Auntie Bea is too.”

Rooster smiled warmly at Bianca's innocent curiosity, her eyes wide with wonder as she observed the world around her. "That's right, kiddo," he confirmed. "You were a preemie, just like your Auntie Bea. And you both turned out strong and healthy, so the twins will too."

Bianca beamed with pride at the mention of her Auntie Bea. "Auntie Bea is the best, Uncle Roos!"

His eyes turned to watch Beatrice, who was at a safe distance from the truck, interact with their daughter and younger niece with a smile, “You can say that again,Bibi.” he whispers, then narrows his eyes when a sudden figure is slowly approaching. He squints his gaze one more time, straightening against the truck.

“No fuckin’ way.” he mutters, “Miranda??” and she was approaching Beatrice from behind, his wife couldn’t see her…fuck.

The 28’ Hacker was a slight departure from John Ludwig Hacker’s other models in the 1932 lineup. With a nearly plumb bow, and beam a full six-inches wider than other similarly sized runabouts, it had flare in the bow not matched by other manufactures until years later. The extra-low cut windshield paired with the Dietrich convertible top and pleated green leather upholstery is a menacing combination. There are only three of this model in existence, this is the only one equipped with a Scripps V-12. All the right work has been done, paint and varnish just freshened. Our customer has enjoyed it for several years, and is ready for another boat. i realised i havent done an update with them since the erm. that dragon. AND since then ive gotten two new dragons to the dsmp fandragon tab

i remember i bought him and one of his brothers to be the other fox guy i dont know how to spell his name and i font want to try. cpk i guess even thought i know it starts with s. sorry. he took ummmmm 9 months to finish bc i had to wait for the pirate event to get his coat at any reasonable price ever. and then i forgot to finish him until today (his sword covers gardening tools but i like the gold trim netting shit so it stays.)

AND AND i made quackity (Tyche)

he has topped my most expensive fandragon for sure. THOSE CARDS WERE LIKE 220 GEMS OR SOMETHING which i get it was a limited event item and i didnt want the green copy ones BUT THAT WAS A LOT. and the sword also was about the same . AND HIS SHIRT WAS EXPENSIVE TOO??? a classy shirt idr how much it was but??? why r they expensive. i also bought him a tiger familiar bc i like the idea that he owns a tiger okay. its awesome ummmmmm yeah.

OH i also made a couple hermitcraft fandragons and moved my mlp dragon into the fandragon tab.

This is from the #Uncool50 music biography I did in October and November. Contest sponsor @[email protected] has compiled a full #Uncool500 from our nominations.

Each nomination was worth 10 points, but we could each nominate four singles for 11 points, and one song for 12 points. (“Since yesterday” was my 12-pointer, the 11s went to “Constant craving”, “You oughta know”, “The middle”, “Bulletproof”.)

Ties are broken in a lot of ways. It’s all inspired by “This is Uncool”, a handbook of great singles from the last quarter of the 20th century. Anything in that book gravitated to the top of the tie; anything from this century followed, and songs from the 20th century and not in the book came further down.

Acts that had a lot of songs nominated went ahead of acts with just the one big hit. Where a player had nominated the same act three or more times, the singles they'd nominated got relegated to the bottom of the tie - this happened to REM and Duran Duran.
