James hates being in hiding with Lily, and misses his husband, luckily said husband knows how to make it all better.

James pouts as he walks along the road. He hadn’t meant to be so cross with Lily about the hiding situation. It’s not her fault that the world thinks that he married her rather than Sirius. It’s not her fault that their son is a mix between them and not between him and Sirius – that’s just what happens when you have a surrogate. And it’s certainly not her fault that despite his marriage to Sirius that Dumbledore and Voldemort think they – James and Lily – are the parents in the prophecy and Harry is the prophecy child.
The claim that Lily is Harry’s parent when it’s James and Sirius raising him will never not infuriate him. The dismissal of his husband is appalling.
It's all so stupid.
Especially at the insistence that they go on pretending that he married Lily rather than Sirius.
It’s just … he misses his husband, and he hates pretending he’s not married to him.
But what was he to do?
“Looks you could use a lift,” a familiar voice calls out.
Sirius.
The sound of the motorbike pulling up beside him and sure enough, it’s Sirius.
“Si! What are you doing here?”
“Lily called me on the mirror that you left behind,” Sirius states. “She’s worried about you – I am, too.”
“I shouldn’t have been short with her,” James says, even as he nods. “It’s not her fault that I wish I was in hiding with you and not her. I appreciate her, I really do…”
“But it’s rough,” Sirius says. “We get it, I get it. Lily knows how little time we’ve spent apart over the last decade. She knows how well we ground each other, she’s not angry with you about your spouting off, I promise.”
“She should be,” James mutters. “I should be better than this whining mess when she’s giving up her life, too, for us.”
Sirius pulls him over to wrap his arms around him. “I told you – it’s okay. We’re all working through it.”
“It’s just...”
“Hush,” Sirius says, holding him tight. “It’s going to be okay.”
James melts against him, already feeling better, even though they’re ridiculously exposed in this position. Anyone could attack them here.
He lets go, reluctantly. “I should probably head back to safety.”
Sirius grins. “Hop on, I’ll give you a lift.”
“Thanks, love.”
“You’re welcome.”

“Are you ready for it?”
“I don’t think I’ll ever be ready,” they huffed out a laugh. “But if I don’t do it now, then when?”
