After so many years I was thinking in stopping writing fanfiction again, like I did back in 2007 when I finished my TRAOD sequels (The Golden Seal and Lilith’s Scepter) and decided to move on. Back then I was sure I would never write fanfiction again because for me, the TR fandom was dead and my time there too. Yet again I surprised myself going back in 2016 and producing a new bunch of oneshots and fanfics (The Awakening and The Legacy among them) and this was thanks to the wonderful community of friends loyal to the classics I encountered here. Now, I feel my time among the TR fandom is being exhausted again. I was sure The Legacy would be my last one. I wanted it to be the last one.

And yet today I awakened inspired again and I’ve been writing all the morning, and I’ll be writing until the night comes, and damn, this joy, this utter happiness that brings me the mere fact of writing, the pleasure of it even if no one reads what I’m writing, how realized and full and alive I feel when I write, how much I love these characters, this universe, writing in Spanish and then translating to English, how this supreme effort pays off, all the things I’ve learnt. The absolute gratification. I’m gonna miss it.

A brief summary of my fics

So, yesterday @angel-in-shadow asked where I post my fics and if they could be found here in Tumblr. Admittely I’ve posted many times about this and even answered many asks about the chronological order in which the fics must be read - which is important as they are all a continuum - but to be honest, Tumblr search engine is so bad I can’t find those posts anymore.

That’s why I feel obliged to make that post again. Sorry for those who are a bit fed up with self promotion - I know you exist! But duty obliges.

My fics, which are all TRAOD sequels and all Lartis (LaraxKurtis) OTP centered, can be found in the next websites: Fanfiction dot net, DeviantArt, Wattpad, AO3 and Inkitt. Every website has its pros and its inconvenients, it’s just a matter of choosing which one is more comfortable for you to read.

Just to name some, DeviantArt, Wattpad and AO3 have the pro of being illustrated by the wonderful artists @hydraballista and @adayka who, among others, had the courtesy and the kindness to draw for my fics during these years. That makes the reading, maybe, more entertaining that if you chose FF dot net or Inkitt, where illustrations are not allowed. Plus, you can find Spanish versions of the fics both in FF dot net and Wattpad. I erased these versions from the others because it was too exhausting to update them for the 0 feedback they were getting.

Finally, only two of the fics are in Inkitt, while all of them are available in the rest of the websites. It’s up to you, really. Also, I post always my regular updates and the fanart drew for them in this Tumblr account, but as I said it’s kinda tricky to find them by the search engine.

Now, for the fics themselves. I’ve written a lot, but they are pretty different between them, though they constitute a continuity, as I said. So they are best read if read in this precise order:

The Louvre Affair. Oneshot. Very basic, the first one I wrote 10 years ago. Lara and Kurtis’ encounter at the Louvre as seen in TRAOD. Part of a TRAOD “novelization” I never got to complete. All audiences.

The Good In Him. Oneshot. Set after the events in Egypt (TR4) and before TRAOD. Lara returns to Croft Manor and gets a desperate call by her mentor, Werner Von Croy. But is it worth to attend his demand of help? All audiences.

Daughter. Oneshot. Set after the events of Lilith’s Scepter. Lara faces her own personal challenges in an unexpected family experience and reflects about the bond between her and her deceased mentor, Werner Von Croy. All audiences.

The Awakening. Short fanfic. 6 chapters. Lara gets lost and trapped at Sri Lanka amidst a civil war. Now, she has only one person to rely on so that she can escape that hell. +18. Mature content. Extreme and graphic violence.

Mr. Vance Renner. NSFW oneshot. Written as a birthday gift for @kim-v-croft Lara and a mysterious gentleman enjoy a very special and intimate evening in Dubai. But not even there can she avoid some trouble. +18. Mature content. Graphic description of erotic and sex scenes.

The Legacy. IN PROGRESS. 16 chapters (for the moment). After the traumatic experience in Sri Lanka narrated in The Awakening, Lara and Kurtis’ love and loyalty will be put at stake. Only their common bond and new challenges to face personally will remind them what’s really important. +18. Mature content. Violence and sex.

That’s it, for the moment. Soon I’ll update again The Legacy, in which I am working after being inactive for almost a year due to my obligations of job and private life. I hope I can complete this fic soon, anyway.

Thank you so much @angel-in-shadow for your interest and I sincerely hope there’s not too much for you to read and you can enjoy them. I have also to say that the first ones are admittedly weaker than the latter ones since, as happens with everyone, I’ve improved during all these years, or so I think.

TR DARK ANGEL LIVE RECORDING (III)

Just some random photos took during the event, mainly to show the kindness and reception of ex-Core Design fellas and the other fans attending, and grab an idea of the atmosphere.

We had a fantastic time because everyone was so friendly and kind. At any time, Murti, Eric, Peter and Martin were available to sign our merch and prints - I remember a fan bringing her TRAOD PS2 copy to sign and Eric being like, “OMG, I have to sign here??”, as if feeling bad to sign the cover. I reminded him that actually, he signing that TRAOD copy would probably increase its value. He refused to believe it.

I wish I could have been more open and friendly with everyone who attended, but admittely, despite I look very direct and frank when I’m in social media, in person I’m very shy. So hereby I apologize to anyone I failed to interact with. Also I know, my English accent is awful. But fortunately Hubby was there and he’s far more gifted than me in social interactions. I offered the notes to anyone who wanted to take a look to them - and the nice guy in red - Al Survivor - and us enjoyed a while discussing them, just as Eric, who praised Murti’s talents and skills not only for storywriting but also for drawing concept art.

Murti was probably the soul of the event, being incredibly receptive and kind and friendly to everyone, making constant jokes and offering himself to take photos, interact and bring us together. All in all, a remarkable experience.

Last but not least, Martin Iveson, who was the second composer of the original TRAOD soundtrack, was also with us and open to any interaction too. He even made a joke when signing the prints which consisted in taking one of the several Tomb Raider 20th Anniversary napkins and say, “Do you know how to draw a dick and balls?” and actually drawing them in a few strokes. Only to immediately apologize, “I’m sorry, this is disgusting.” I think @tomb-of-ash kept that napkin.

Of course, he also signed a lot of prints and posters, which were already signed by the drum and guitar solo musicians that had performed previously to that session. I took two of these posters home, one for me and another one for my dear sis @anentireamazon and made sure to be signed also by Peter and Martin.

Considering the tier we pledged for also includes a signed poster still yet to come, we don’t know where in earth to put them, but that’s the least of our problems now, I guess.

I am done now with the random photos and anecdotes coming from the session. In the next post (s)? will be sharing the personal photos taken with this amazing lot. See ya soon.

Shout out to the fantastic cosplayers that attended the event with us, specially the charming @madenice which was our sweet Janice and the fantastic guys cosplaying Werner Von Croy - who almost melted in that supercool suit, given the hot weather - and of course Kurtis - I’m so sorry that I can’t remember either of your names - who showed us the Chirugai with the extensible blades, very cool handcrafted, and his fantastic cosplay too. Admittely I had missed to take a photo with him during TR Suite premiere, but this time, I delivered! :)

Fanfiction OST - The Golden Seal

OST for my fanfics? Hell yeah!

Ok so... yesterday while chatting with @luluvonv about giving music to fanfiction, or which music inspired me to write fanfiction, or which music I’d put if my fanfics were made into movies/animated series (yeah, dreaming is for free), I decided to make a post with the songs that we find suitable for my fanfics, or at least, for some sequences of them.

I must say most of them are gonna be from OST soundtracks/Two Steps From Hell because they are the music I usually listen to when I write, apart from the Lartis playlist I wrote some time ago. So I will be happy to hear your suggestions if you have one. These are very personal.

Of course this is just for fun. And I also encourage everyone who writes/reads fanfiction to do the same because I’m sure as hell everyone would love to listen author/reader’s suggestion to this, so feel free to go with the flow or just enjoy it!

The Golden Seal

Moving to Al-Fayoum

There is a sequence in this fanfics between the chapters The Amazon’s story and The Egyptologist, when Lara and Kurtis discover The Golden Seal changes and points a new location in their quest: Egypt, and particularly, the oasis of Al-Fayoum, where a Lux Veritatis fortress is buried under the sand. There Lara convinces her friend Jean Yves to organize a caravan and a dig team to uncover the ruins.

I always imagined El Dorado, by Two Steps From Hell, would be an amazing track to listen since the moment Lara finds out the new location to the moment where she, Kurtis and Jean Yves team arrives to the oasis.

1:33 Just imagine the line of trucks and jeeps advacing through the desert, crossing the sand, to the rythm of this music. And Kurtis motorbike, with Lara clinging to his waist, leading the line. Hey, why not.

Hey, I’m happing imagining it. In fact this sound could serve for any tomb raiding quest.

Passing Through The Booby Traps

I don’t dwell too much in these kind of descriptions because they bore me to hell, but i barely make reference to Lara sorting the booby traps that protect the Lux Veritatis stronghold in Al-Fayoum, as I said, barely mentioned in The Amazon’s Tomb.

I always though the instrumental piece Arabesque by Nightwish would be the perfect soundtrack for an amazing, graceful sequence of Lara avoiding swinging blades, spikes traps, booby traps in general, and making a final sprint to slide through a closing gap at the end of a deadly alley of traps.

I find specially good the title Arabesque because Lara Croft has a ballerina training and why not, all her gimmastics and movements are graceful, like dancing, like moving through the water, and not like a macho.

Just imagine her passing through spikes and blades with that gracefulness, an inch away from death... damn I miss her so much.

There is an Imaginaerum movie version of Arabesque, named a Crackling Sphere, which is even more epic that the original song. I recommend you to listen to it too because sometimes I think it’s more fitting to the sequence of the fanfic ;) Because the ending geeeeez so epic!

GODDAMMIT NIGHTWISH WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD

Introducing Meteora

The mystic valley of Meteora, in Greece, is the last location of the fanfic. I’ve always thought it would be beautiful to put some music to the sequence between Kurtis and Lara find out they have to go to Meteora,are intercepted by Nikos Kavafis and they leads them to the place in helicopter, then they witness for the first time the wide and beautiful valley with rock formations an the Orthodox monasterious on the top of them.

Merchant Prince by Two Steps from Hell would be my chosen music. And I’m even sure you can figure out in whch second the valley opens to your eyes ;)

Karel Defeated - The Kiss

Last fight of the fanfic is, of course, Kurtis battling and defeating Karel - this is not even a spoiler, every TRAOD sequel has it, even the official notes the game team had planned :))))

There is an impasse where we are not sure if Kurtis has died too because he has fallen to the void together with Karel, but he survives because of his Lux Verittis powers and, over all, because Lara has chosen him in The True Option choice before the Oracle.

I always thought Victory would be a nice music to illustrate the moment where lara finds out he’s alive, Karel has been definitely defeated, they finally kiss and ROLL CREDITS!!! (I would love the idea of doing this fanfic as an animated series with chapters... there, I said it).

The chosen music is Victory. How not! Also, no romantic music for a kiss? Not this kiss. This kiss is a kiss of victory. This is a kiss with dirt, with blood and with passion. This is a kiss to savour the victory so bite her devoure her. So epic music for this kiss. YAS!

Yeah, again Two Steps From Hell. What can I do. I mostly listen to them when I write fanfiction.

There was a time I had more ideas, but I confess I forgot them. Maybe they weren’t that great if I can’t remember them. Also I’m aware this music sounds far more epic than the fanfic itself - but well, adaptation to screen could amend this, I guess.

Ok I wasted enough time of your life with this now. Maybe I can go no with the rest of my fics if you’d like to know.... and also if you’re a reader, know my fics and want to give your two cents on this... I’d be much more than honoured to know them :D

No offense, anon, but you keep sending me your crap non-stop, and I’m so done with you for today.

The best part is a person sending me anon hate after anon hate in a row without stopping and getting more and more raged at my replies and trying to teach me lessons of how being an adult. In which mental age puts your attitude in?

Clue: you don’t look precisely adult and mature. You don’t look brave either.

It was fun to put you in your place for a while, but it’s late and I feel like reading a good book and then go to sleep, so I just blocked you like I’ve done with every piece of trash that has bothered me via anon. No bad feelings tho.

Also I would really advice you to read every document and interview on TRAOD’s plot before bothering me again with your ignorance. There's so much to read just in Murti Schofield’s notes, Core Design interviews and lots of deleted/unreleased docs which are publicly displayed for everyone to read. But will you read them? You don’t even try with me so why Miss-Know-It-All Bitch should try with you, right?

OMG, Lucie… you… just touched my softest spot. OK, let’s do this.

Maybe you’ll be disappointed if I tell you the truth: it was spontaneous, a single idea that crossed my mind in the glimpse of an eye. Let’s put our readers on the background.

“But first…” Kurtis turnedleft on his motorbike and parked into what appeared to be…

“A roadside motel?” Lara said, very little excited.

“Sorry, m'lady, but right now I don’t have theRitz’s address,” he said with sarcasm. “Another time maybe.”

That was thefirst time he called her ‘m'lady’. She wouldnever forget.

THE GOLDEN SEAL, chapter 22, The Dreamcatcher

The last line was written after almost a minute with myself staring at the screen and realizing that was so cute. First time Kurtis calls her m’lady, he’s being mostly ironic - like she’s protesting for having to sleep in a roadside motel. Then he mocks her calling her “m’lady”, like, look at this British lady who can’t sleep in an unsavory place. Of course, it’s not because she can’t do it. She has slept in worse places. She’s injured and tired at this point - and she has just received the worst news concerning Putai. So she reacts bad at the fact she won’t get even a decent sleep in a decent place.

Then he mocks her - lovingly, no intention to hurt her. I think it was kind a mix of sarcasm and honestity. M’lady has that double sense. And she realizes it at the very spot. She would never forget.

Why I came up with this loving nickname? I guess it was because Lara is, indeed, a lady. Not just because of her manners, also because or her upbringing. If you remember, in the games Lara is never called a lady. She is called Miss Croft, by her antagonists - Werner, Eckhardt - and also her allies.

Kurtis calls her Miss Croft in the airlock - but after, as you can realize when checking Eric Loren’s deleted audios, when he’s alone at the Sanitarium and he talks to himself, he calls her Lara. Not Miss Croft anymore, but Lara. This intimacy was mindblowing to me. Like he calls her Miss when he’s in front of her, but in his inner self he already calls her name. That means more than it apparently seems, and it’s not fanfic: it’s in-game, it’s TRAOD. No matter is deleted content. It was meant to be included.

So, reflecting about this, I thought Kurtis felt like to intimate with her even when evoking her. That mean something to me. I was sure he’d call her with a more special name as their relationship is getting more and more intimate.

Then we realize the first time Lara is called a lady was in the TR movies, with Angelina Jolie. There’s when it appears the Lady Croft thing, which later Crystal Dynamics copied, as they copied most of the aspect of the movies. You know I don’t like the movies, and despite in the games she’s only called Miss Croft, calling her Lady Croft was not totally incorrect. For Lara is the daughter of a lord and a lady, and thus, she’s also a lady. No matter her parents disowned her. I guess she managed to keep the title in any way.

But then I felt the urge to develop the headcanon of she actually hating the title.

“… Ladies and gentlemen, with all ofyou: Lady Lara Croft, Duchess of Saint Bridget.”

There was a round of applause.

Dammit,thought Lara as she climbed on stage with her most charming smile. She hatedwith all her forces to be called by her title, which sounded pompous andbombastic, lacking of any personality. But it was a necessary evil she wasforced to use in those high places, as the British aristocracy tolerated nocommoners among their ranks.”

I thought it was in-character for Lara to despise her title as much as she despises her parents, for it reminds her to her past as a perfect British lady with no future apart from being a perfect wife and a loving mother.

So, why she likes being called m’lady by Kurtis when she would actually feel the urge to punch everyone else who dared to do so? Apart from the evident fact that she loves him - she did before even realizing - there’s the special charm and intimacy with which Kurtis uses the title. In his lips it’s different. It’s not mere flattering, as most people would do, it’s not mocking - and when it is, it’s subtle, and most of it, it’s an actual “speaking” nickname. M’lady. My lady. MY. Lady. The only one lady to me. I shall recognize no lady of mine in this world - but you.

Lara’s aware of this - Lara got it from the first, and after all, she’s a woman - and a woman loves a sincere, respectful, loving compliment. Why has she to be different in this? She would never forget.

M’lady will become also a special word - the word to calm her down, the word to turn her on, the word to silence her in a discussion. Even for a while. The magic word. The only word to make her lose her restrains.

“You’re here. That’s enough, m'lady.”

Upon hearing that title he’d changed into a loving nickname, her eyes filled again with tears.

It is also a way to identify him - for he’s the only one who calls her like that, with that tone and that meaning.

As you can imagine, I wasn’t aware of anything of this when I wrote “m’lady” for the first time. As I said, it was an impulse. Then I realized I freaking loved it. And decided to keep it for the rest of my storyline. It is much of a result of the evolution of the storyline and the characters - and I’m planning to keep developing this in further fanfics. In fact, I’ve already a line for it in The Legacy :)

So… long story short: at first it was not planned, it came out of nowhere. Then I liked it and I tried to find out if it was suiting for the character, remembered how he calls her Miss Croft/Lara in TRAOD, and came to the conclussion he needed a special name for her, something that only he would use for her, but also something fitting, something that define her perfectly but she despises and only tolerates from him, because in his lips it acquires a full new meaning.

It’s not that original, if you think deeply. It’s almost predictable. But I don’t know, I liked it, it worked for me, and I must admit it’s my softest spot, one of the things I like the most about my Lartis headcanon. I’m sure I’m not the only one that has done the same or something similar - but at this point I don’t care.

It is for sure one of the scarce things I liked from the beginning - and I’ve no intention to change it at all. That’s why I’m so, SO happy you enjoyed and liked it… thank you so much for your love. Means a world to me.
