It was so sweet (and sad) to see yotaro take care of an upset mahiru while they were in london. With akira dead, tooru being busy with (secret) work and most other characters around mahiru often being pretty irresponsible, immature and caught up in their own issues it was nice to see another character taking up the "mom" role for mahiru instead of him having to be the "mom" or "therapist" for whoever he's currently dealing with.
For similar reasons I really liked iori, even though we didn't have him for long (rip). When mahiru arrives at the battle scene iori has never personally met him before. But instead of trying to trick him or make him jump through hoops first until he has earned their trust/approval like most other adults in the manga the first thing iori does is to reassure mahiru that things are going to be fine even when the situation might look bleak. He puts his trust in him and sacrifices his own life to teleport mahiru and kuro to safety and with his last words he advises mahiru who to look for in london to get help.
I know mahiru is "the straight man" in the story, as in the normal person with common sense who has to suffer from the shenanigans of the crazy people around him for comedic effect, but it was nice to see mahiru interact with people who see that he's just a sixteen year old boy in an extremely upsetting situation and in need of some comfort and reassurance from them.

everytime i think about that terf saying that the 'evil' in men starts at 4 years of age i think about that one eight year old kid who saw me waiting in line to get my flu shot with my (presumably) bitch face set in place and very seriously start explaining to me how it's okay, i just need to relax and not look and it won't even hurt at all. Like i myself am not someone who likes or can be around children for long (not bc they're terrible- they're just little people having a hell of a time in the world, and i am an autistic people who has a hell of a time in the world, which doesn't always mesh the best), but holy shit how do you think little boys are anywhere in the least bit inherently awful. Moreover, how do you get a job in CHILDCARE and claim to be empathetic and good with kids if you deadass think just because a baby has balls, they're inherently awful. Fucking hell.

friendly reminder that issue shipping isn’t good. Idk how many times I gotta say it. I wake up, I see an issue shipper, I want to claw my eyes out, I delete the world.
protags are 14, N is TWENTY. 20 two-Zero. 20. Nothing will change that sorry.
“b-but I made the protags 16 in my w—“ no. Boiled and fried.

That one Twitter Meme from Mhyuo but with Stankyle/OrangeChai:
What do you meant this isn’t what happened? Kyle was totally Stanley’s very first crush & bi awakening even though he was unaware but he shook enough to drop his cigarette Kyle’s driver gave him-btw.
Flagless/Non Blurry Ver & Longer Explanation Below:
Wdym that you were only a year old after gaining your first crush after being immediately sent overseas and staying in the workshops in Europe for a month and then you met this cool engine while working on the front who’s a couple of months older than you yet already had crow’s feet’s and eyebags but the biggest smile and he had more experience who then takes you underneath his wing and taught you everything he knew and he didn’t get mad at you even you made mistakes that you couldn’t help yourself that you end up being labeled as a jinx and derailed every single day unlike the others including him who was considered to be “lucky” but he gives you advice, defends you and keeps you company and you didn’t even know what exactly love is until it was explained to you but you still had a vague perception on it until you come to this realization when you constantly think of him and his smile and his attempts to cheer you up and makes you laugh you love hearing him laugh and just around him ..
Yeah that couldn’t be me.

The idea that the only adults in the team Gwen got together are Peter and SpiderHam
The idea that it's Miles' peers, the teens, that come to his aid and fight with him, not against him.
The idea of generational comradery and how making friends with people around his age that will ultimately be the thing that lifts Miles up

The pirate witch price snippet reminded me of this old novel I read when I was in like highschool I think called To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker. It’s of course not your story line but it’s a very short read and I feel like The Vibes would please you.
Of course I’m not saying you need to read it lol I’m not giving you homework of course, just wanted to drop the seed here!
You're all good anon, I checked out the goodreads for it! Looks like it's YA so definitely would be a quick read. I used to love reading pirate books when I was in middle and high school. I think I read most if not all of the Bloody Jack series which honestly was kind of a weird series. Not the best. Very middle grade reading.
I'll check out if my local library has To Catch a Pirate, and maybe some adult pirate lit. Reading about teenagers in YA just makes me wonder why adults shouldn't be handling this stuff.

another thing that’s really shitty about the recent uptick of people who call themselves allies still refusing to stop using “dude” and similar for trans women is that i thought we all agreed ages ago that we shouldn’t call people things they don’t want to be called even if it IS something you’d consider inoffensive to call a person under most circumstances. like seriously how hard is it to respond to “please don’t call me that” with “sorry, i won’t do it again” even and ESPECIALLY if you didn’t mean any harm when you first said it. if it’s a habit that’s hard to break just try your best and take a moment to apologize briefly when you fuck up, exactly like we’re always telling cis people to do with pronouns they’re not used to using. it’s really not that hard

Sorry-not-sorry I'm back on my normal 'Kevin and Argit were so small' bullshittery.
Because they fucking were. Kevin was twelve when Servantis tossed everybody, and Argit couldn't have been far off. They were middle school aged. 'Puberty would be starting about now if we weren't wandering the Null Void and therefor likely not eating near enough' aged.
A pair of children, with minimal education, no paperwork, no homes, no guardians. Wandering the Null Void and then the Milky Way, on their own. One a prime target for the slave trade, both prime targets for adults looking to take advantage of them (*coughcoughOttocoughcough*). With only as much security as they could provide themselves and each other. Only able to rely on themselves for the basic necessities of life.
And then this show has the audacity to try to tell me that they turned to crime due to poor morality. That they're money focused because they're just naturally greedy. That they don't trust people and look out for themselves because they're bad people that either will always be bad people or will only improve because of the power of Tennysons.
What options were there for them? What jobs are there in the Null Void? What jobs are there in the galaxy that'll hire barely-teens, if even that, with no paperwork or educations, that wouldn't ruin them as badly and pay worse than the crime they already had experience with? Will keep them fed and clothed and sheltered? When one of them already has a criminal record, for violent crimes at that? When there's nobody there to stop even the 'good' adults from taking advantage of them?
The show will sit there and tell you that Kevin's violent crimes were the result of a rough childhood, but he and Argit's non-violent ones? Totally on them, no excuse, wholly a matter of greed and not giving a shit about other people. Fucking bullshit. This is a pair of kids who had to grow up way too fast, up against an existence that saw at least one of them as easy profit, with nothing but themselves and each other, and no opportunities. They're a pair of traumatized kids who grabbed the opportunities available to them with both hands and were molded by the problems they faced.
Of course they're money-focused, unlike the Tennysons they don't and haven't had anybody making sure they had enough to get by. They've had to support themselves and live with the constant worry that something is going to go pear-shaped and they'll have nothing.
They spent years with anybody and everybody being a potential threat (even between the two of them, Argit's noting that Kevin's snapping while he worked for the Rooters was the worst he'd seen 'before or since' makes it quite clear he's seen him on and passed the edge at least as much if not more than we have), of course they're going to be slow to trust, quick to toss people aside, and unwilling to help their enemies without some sort of payout, they've been burned before.
Just- Damnit these two come from some shitty fucking situations, the effects they had on them are obvious if you bother to fucking look, and they both deserved better than the series just going "oh yeah they're assholes what do you expect they're criminals" and moving the fuck on. Like, for fuck's sake at least acknowledge that they're like this because life was a fucking lead pipe to the teeth to them! We know Kevin's situation was shit even before they met, we got to see it, but even if Argit had a perfectly good life beforehand (unlikely) the earliest we see him is being held captive for illegal experimentation purposes by law enforcement! These two have been through shit! At least acknowledge it!
Fuck, they could've replaced Color of Monkey with that, hitting on the differences between how Kevin and Argit adapted to their circumstances, give us upfront the Tennysons being a safety net that let Kevin heal (rather than just 'oh the Tennysons taught him morals because they're the Good People') while Argit's issues and lack of security kept him stagnant. It would go better with what we see of him over the course of OV leading up to the Rooters arc, and what we're shown in the Rooters arc. Give us him still being far from great or on the up-and-up but improving with the stability that comes with his 'hero' status, a repairing relationship with Kevin after that arc, and a flourishing, above-board business. Rather than backpedaling on any good the writers had thrown at him like they'd realized they were coming up against a cliff.
Shit that makes you want to get the writers by the shoulders and shake them mercilessly.

I don't know if it's just me, but does anyone else find the 2012 tmnt series incredible depressing? More precisly, the fate of the Hamato clan?
By the end of the series, the turtles have lost their father and are left to protect themselves and the world on their own. There's no one they can turn to for advice, no adult they can expect to rely on.
It's just a bunch of teenagers constantly scrambling to not get killed by villains and save the world from mass destruction.
They get almost no brakes between crazy lunatics trying to take over the world. They can never let up; never be normal teenagers who can afford to make mistakes and fool around.
They're child soldiers expected to battle the evils of the world.
You can see the effect of this the most in Leo. The trauma and ptsd he experiences lead to him becoming more and more somber as time goes on. He doesn't crack jokes as often, lashes out more, is more serious. After Splinter's death, he has to step up and become the new head of the clan. He has to take on responsibilities no child should ever have to carry. He is expected to lead his team and deafeat the enemy, but everytime he does so, he risks the lives of his brothers and friends, the only family he has left.
They deserve so much better than that.
