Hi, I'm sorry if you've already answered this but I found the chapter titles in castles quite intriguing are they some type of quotes/lyrics?love the fic it's amazing
hi! thank you! i have answered this before but i'm happy to answer it again lol. they're neither quotes nor song lyrics - well, bar for the first one. the first chapter (out of sand (baby girl)) is a line from an eminem song called castle, which also inspired the title of the fic.

this song (and particularly this line) is very important to this fic in ways that i can't quite reveal yet, due to not wanting to spoil. what i can say, however, is that all the titles that have followed are linked to things that you can rebuild a castle out of:
the titles also rhyme and if you squint, they're kind of related to the contents of the chapter itself. to give you an example: the latest chapter, out of ink (predictions), is a reference to a) harry and ginny's matching tattoos - which in turn is related to them reclaiming their bodies/stories and b) giulia's prediction as to harry's professional career (that he would join the hit wizards).
as castles is a fic about rebuilding the post-war world and the kids' post-war lives and into adulthood, there's also a bit of symbolism in the idea of rebuilding castles. first, at the start of the fic, there's a literal castle (hogwarts) to rebuild, and grimmauld to turn into a home. those are the "material" elements. but second, there's also the metaphor of rebuilding castles (i.e. their lives) in the way that the song suggests - against the elements and against the tide, trying to make things better for themselves and for generations to come. there's a third "castle" in castles, but that one, you will have to wait until the last chapter to find out about.
i will say that i originally anticipated this fic would be 6 chapters long (lol) so i didn't anticipate needing so many one-syllable words for construction materials 😆. which is kind of why some of these have gotten more metaphorical/distant than others as time as gone by, but they do stay related to the theme "in spirit". that said, i've received tremendous help from @welsh-green in finding good construction materials to pull from, she saved me many times!
anyway, hope this clarifies it!

Didn’t expect to get this out so quickly after my last post, but it just sort of happened :P lol I haven’t watched a whole lot of this show, so hopefully I did it justice! Had a lot of fun with this one 😊

“And the winner of this season’s Golden Mask is…” Nick Cannon begins as the lights go down and the dramatic music begins. “The Duck! Congratulations, you’ve won! Make your way to the throne!”
The Duck’s hands fly to his face in shock, before accepting the trophy and holding it high as he makes his way back to his throne as the judges cheer.
After their runner-up is unveiled as Robert Downey Jr, he sings his final song and exits the stage to thunderous applause and a thumbs up to the Duck back on his throne.
Robin nods approvingly as the Duck comes back to the stage, and faces them, “Knew you’d be in the finals, such a strong voice.”
“Jenny, who do you think our champion is?”
“I’ve changed my mind every week on you,” Jenny starts and points at him. “And I’m still not sure I’m right. But from your clues… you mentioned Hollywood at one point. You had a background of New York behind you. You brought up having an older brother and starting to work toward your career at a young age. Everyone thinks you’re a singer, but I think you’re an actor and that’s why you brought up Hollywood! You’re Zac Efron! An actor that can sing, has an older brother, started out young on Disney, and you had that movie with Michael B. Jordan based in New York, I’ve got you Zac!”
The Duck shrugs as Ken jumps in, “Great guess Jenny, but you’re wrong. Because I know exactly who this is! I saw that flag in the background of one of your videos, and plenty of singers come to Hollywood. You’re from the U.K., welcome to The Masked Singer Ed Sheeran!”
“One final guess Y/N,” Nick Cannon asks, both he and the Duck turning to look at her. “Who do you think the Duck is?”
“I think you’re right about the U.K. Ken,” Y/N nods approvingly. “But that’s not Ed. I feel like I really know this voice, and it’s been irking me for months. And I think I finally know why. Going off of him saying he has an older brother, the Union Jack in the background, talking about how his career took off in the span of one year, and his voice, this is singer and X-Factor winner James Arthur,” she states confidently as the Duck slicks back his hair. “I’ve worked with him, and that’s his voice, I’m confident.”
“I agree with Y/N,” Robin states. “Duck you’ve got an incredible voice and range, and killed it out here every week. There’s no doubt in my mind that you’re a professional singer. And I think that singer is James Arthur.”
“Alright Nicole, who do you think our champion is?”
“I still have no clue Nick,” she says, slamming her palms down on the desk. “I thought he was a professional singer from his singing, but he’s brought up Hollywood and that made me think actor, then he’s just continuously hilarious every week in his packages so I thought he was a comedian. I think I’m just going to agree… with Ken. It’s Ed Sheeran.”
“You’re agreeing with me?” Ken asks, a fake shocked look on his face.
“I know, I’m uncomfortable too,” she says with the roll of her eyes as the audience laughs.
“Alright now that our panel has locked in their final guesses, it’s time to unveil our winner!” Nick announces as he puts his microphone on the table next to him and grips the edge of the Duck’s mask trying to find the best place to pull it up.
All the judges get to their feet, trying to get the first glimpse of him as the audience chants, “Take it off,” wildly.
As the mask comes off, the audience goes silent before Y/N’s voice breaks it, “Oh *bleep*,” slamming a hand over her mouth quickly.
“It’s Grammy Nominated Singer Song-writer Lewis Capaldi!” Nick shouts as Lewis holds up his mask and Y/N slowly lowers herself down to hide behind the desk.
“Wait, Y/N isn’t he your boyfriend?” Robin asks as the crowd laughs.
Coming back up from behind the desk, she hangs her head and nods, her cheeks bright red.
“James Arthur, Y/N?” Lewis teases, “James Arthur, really?”
“You didn’t recognize your own boyfriend’s voice? Don’t you hear him like every day?” Nicole asks surprised.
“And didn’t you noticed your boyfriend working all the exact hours as you?” Ken laughs as her cheeks grow even brighter red.
“Well I wasn’t there! I was here!” she defends with a huff. “And he locks himself in the studio writing all the time, I didn’t check to see what he was singing up there, it’s soundproof!”
“I also sang her to sleep last night,” Lewis shrugs setting down his mask. “The last thing you heard before you slipped into your sweet sweet dreams was me singing to you, then you come and call me James Arthur today with complete confidence. I feel like I should be concerned.”
“To be fair I assumed my boyfriend was home working on his album like he said he was, it never even occurred to me I’m leaving to head to the studio and you’re sneaking out right after me!” she shouts back.
“You didn’t even get him after the hints though,” Robin comments with a chuckle. “That should have given it away for you.”
“But a lot of people could have got into singing because of their brother, I don’t know everyone’s back story! And the duck thing... ok the duck thing I probably should have. He said he wanted to be an eggplant but couldn’t so he went with something that rhymes with a word he say all the time. And the sunglasses. And the clip in the bathroom. And the plunger. Yeah that’s my bad,” she admits with a sigh.
“What about the New York background and Hollywood reference though?” Nicole asks looking to Lewis.
“He had New York wallpaper for most of his life and has a song called Hollywood,” Y/N answers sheepishly.
“And my own girlfriend of three years didn’t get any of this,” Lewis laughs and shakes his head in mock disappointment. “I am wounded darlin’.”
“Even if your own girlfriend couldn’t recognize your voice, you came out here and put on a great performance every week, congrats to our champ!” Ken celebrates, thumbs up to Lewis who smiles in response and pushes his hair out of his face.
“Slayed it every week!” Jenny agrees.
“So why did you come do this crazy show?” Nick asks as he puts his arm behind Lewis.
“Well,” he starts as he scratches his chin. “It seemed like it would be fun, from when I’ve been here just watching because of Y/N. And I love my fans and how I interact with them online, but sometimes it starts to feel like my music takes a backseat to all the stupid shi- stuff I say,” he corrects himself quickly. “I’ve also had a lot more success in the U.K. than over here, and I just sorta wanted to see how I would do without any of that to detract from how people like or don’t like my voice.”
“Now how about we get one last song from our champion?”
“Gladly,” Lewis grins as the music for “Set Fire To The Rain,” begins. Near the end of the song, the screen starts to fade as Lewis holds an arm out toward Y/N, who joins him on stage as he pulls her into an embrace for his last note.
Fading to black, the image of a clapperboard suddenly appears on screen then gives way to unmasked Lewis and Y/N standing in front of a white wall.
“Lewis did you think you’d win?” a voice behind the camera calls out.
“Of course I did! No I really didn’t expect that, it’s fantastic but didn’t expect this. I did expect my girlfriend to recognize my *bleep* voice though,” he says with the raise of an eyebrow, glancing over to Y/N.
“My mind completely cancelled you out of the list of people it could be, because I thought there was no way you were able to hide all this from me!” she insists.
“I’m just sad, here I was thinking you liked my music,” he responds with a pout.
“Hey I probably listen to your album more than you!”
“And what’s the name of it?”
“Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, sold near you wherever records are sold. It’s been out a year, if you haven’t listened to it yet where the *bleep* have you been,” Y/N laughs as they both flash peace signs at camera.
“Will you ever let me live this down?” she asks.
Looking toward the camera with a serious expression that quickly breaks into a smile, Lewis responds, “Absolutely not.”

Do you prefer hardly toasted at all or burnt toast?
Leaning towards burnt but not completely.
What time do you have to be out of bed by on a typical day?
I have morning classes throughout the week, so for this semester I have to get up byyy 7:30 to take a shower, then I start driving by 8 to get to my 9 AM class. Other sems were kinder and allowed me to sleep in.
When was the last time you cleaned your bedroom?
Last Tuesday. My dad’s coming home tomorrow so I threw out whatever I didn’t need anymore so he doesn’t get greeted by a messy bedroom.
In real life do you laugh like 'haha,' 'hehe' or something else?
I don’t take note of my laugh but I’m sure it sounds like a high-pitched haha.
Do you know anyone who says things like 'lol' in real life?
Yeah much of the crowd here pronounces ‘lol’ the way it’s spelled.

I could but I don’t exactly know what counts as unusual lmao.

No, I don’t get a lot of those.

Tbh, yeah. They’re interesting to look at and it’s also a nice source of inspiration for when I’m thinking of how to style my own house in the future.

No, unless I’m in a mental breakdown and want to focus on chores to feel better, in which case I like folding laundry.

I don’t really store compliments in my memory haha so I’m all blanked out.

I know that rule but we were never explicitly taught rhymes about it.

Maybe in the last week when I did my readings on WWII and the Cold War? I’m currently taking an international relations class and the readings for it have revealed more things about both of those wars than the total amount of things taught to me for 14 years in my last school.

I can be both.
Do you get on with boys or girls better?
Girls. I don’t understand guys; all of the ones I know are rowdy, pushy, and don’t shy around with inappropriate humor and my patience is too short for all three of these things.
Do people often confide in you? Do you like it?
Pretty often, seeing as people view me as the ‘mom’ in friend groups. I like it; it shows they trust me and that’s really the most rewarding thing.
Who is someone you really admire?
Probably one of my professors who taught me comm theory for one semester.

Piano. I hate acoustic songs.
Do you like helium balloons?
Uhhhh sure? I don’t have much of an opinion on balloons.
Have your parents ever suspected something untrue about you?
YES and it drives me MAD. There was one time I must’ve stepped on a cigarette butt and it must’ve fallen out from the bottom of my shoe when I got in my car to drive. My dad cleans my car after a few days and lo and behold, he sees the cigarette butt and his mind immediately went to “Robyn smokes.” I got so mad and told him I was willing to let him smell me and my breath and whatever just to prove that I don’t smoke and have no plans to. He still brings it up every now and then and it’s so annoying. Fuck whoever threw that butt on the ground.
Do you have any fears that seem weird to others?
Watching commercials at night. No one knows about that fear of mine other than Gab precisely because people will find me weird and’ll interrogate me nonstop about it.

I think about that sometimes.

They’re cool, and video game developers deserve tons of respect.

I study journalism, I’m hating every second of it.

Half a Fucking Decade....
Hey,
It's been half a fucking decade, time apparently helps us heal right?
Okay, so it's been half a fucking decade, it still hurts like it was yesterday. I've tried many things to help me forget, help me move on, but I cannot. I remember your face like it was the last time I saw you, mind you this was before the last haircut you got.
I still remember your voice, your laugh and your smirk. I remember your angry face, your annoyed face, your inability to keep "a straight face" face when you were trying so hard and failing to be serious.
I have a son now, he is annoying AF, mom says he is just like you as a toddler. LOL I wish you were around him to love him and be his Boro Mama. Remember all the talks we had about our future kids and how you'd be the one to teach my kids all the bad words and how I'd be your kids best aunt? Akik tries his best to fill in your place and those two speak in a language only they understand. Every single day we miss you.
Lol Remember, how could you remember? you're gone right? you couldn't possibly be reading this post because you're gone. I do know that, still I write this. Why? Beats me....
I got started on my Library, got myself over 200 books on a bargain, if you were alive, I know you would lessen that load by quickly grabbing a few to read for yourself. How I miss having a competitive reading buddy. Though in all honesty, I still cannot forgive you for telling me that Snape killed Dumbledore in the Half-Blood Prince.
I think about a lot of things:
1) How you would have reacted to the whole Trump Debacle
2) How you would have reacted to the various tales of your nephew
3) How you would have dealt with dad's stroke (thinking about how you would cope got me through the whole situation).
4) What cars you would have owned/sold off by now.
5) Where you would be living now (Melbourne or still in Regional Victoria).
6) What your views of the pandemic would be.
7) What kind of job you'd be doing now
8) How awesome your home would have been
9) If you finally had all those kids that you dreamed of
10) How you would have reacted to Fast 9 going into space
11) Avengers Endgame
12) Fear Street Trilogy
13) The pathetic ending of the Game of Thrones and so much more....
I am always thinking about the life you should have lived and I still wonder why it was you and not me. Also people suck and you'd agree...

Prince Nyx Ulric was a hero of the people, the stuff of old wives’ tales and stories roleplayed by children. A scion of the old warriors and their teachings, trained and taught in the art of their clan’s combat. The first one to drop into the fray, leading his fellow warriors into combat; the last one to leave the fight, protecting his comrades while beating back his enemies. Prince Nyx Ulric was the shining beacon of hope to all of Wulfric. That the son of the Sleeping King, was next in line to the throne; the chosen one, the one to lead their glorious nation into a brighter future. Prince Nyx Ulric was a youth barely into his twenties. He loved his mother, the queen-regent, and his sister, the crown princess, very much. He admired his father for all that he’s done and watches over his sleeping form whenever he could.
He liked to hang out with his best friend Libertus, who’d still sneak him out for a swim in the river beyond the castle walls. He preferred to train with Crowe rather than with the other Crownsguards, since she was the only one daring enough to hurl fireballs and thunderbolts at him. He studied with Luche over political and governing matters, often the one telling the other to relax more. He became fast friends with Pelna during their time together at basic, picking up new skills from one another.
He liked to watch the Saturday morning cartoons, his favourite ongoing series was about the adventures of Malboror-kun. His favourite food was the skewers bought from the southern districts of Aconitum, where the old man and his corner shop was at. He’s an early morning riser, used to roll right out of bed to do push-ups before he starts his day proper.
Nyx Ulric was a boy easily smitten by a pair of dull blue eyes, curtained by long black hair and sitting pretty atop of a refined nose. He was easily enamoured by the regal gait of the old hunter, who walked with a slight limp after a few steps. He was easily enthralled by the husky but boyish voice of the older man, only ever hearing the sound but never truly listening to his words. He was easily beaten by the jaded Kingsglaive soldier whom he had challenged to a duel, thrown onto his back with a winded grunt, the edge of a sword touching his neck in a sign of victory. He was easily swooning over the little half-smile the other man offered as he stood over him.
“Try again next time, your Highness,” the older man had said, sheathing his sword with one hand and holding the other out for him to grasp.
Nyx Ulric was a prince who fell fast and hard in love.
And Nyx Ulric was in love with a man named Noctis.
Joy.
Commentary: I want to knock my head on something hard several times because I missed the first day by an hour lol. For nyxnoctweek / nyxnoctocalypse, I present the roleswap au no one asked for. Yeesh, I wish I could write my reports as easily as I did for this ficlet.

TAG I’m IT....K-DRAMA
I can’t think of any new questions so I’ll just answer the current ones

If you could change one thing about one drama, what would it be?
Hwarang Episode 19 and 20. Okay, that was two. I would definitely change the way it was edited. All the re-writes and flow of the storyboard in a film is done in the editing process. When Episode 18 closed out with SMJ taking the crown--the story shifted. So I was not surprised when E19 opened up with SMJ. This is Dog Bird’s story. Edit the film so it remains Dog Bird’s story. HOWEVER, the story had more urgency with the fact that AH RO just took a fricking gdamn arrow. WE all know SMJ wants and will take the throne. Go to the deeper stuff: LIFE and DEATH. IS AH RO breathing, is she ALIVE? I mean com’n if you aren’t going to pay attention to the heroine and hero, you just slapped the faithful and very concerned viewers in the face. AND all those scenes of the Queen and SMJ should have been on the editing floor or shortened by 20 minutes. Do these editors use counters to clock in screen time? They should. I did. (fun fact: SMJ doesn’t show up in E1 until the ending of the 11-minute mark). See where I am going with this. Oh, and the scene in E20 when Dog Bird tells the Princess, “You are a good woman.” WTF? This was the most dishonest dialogue and scene EVER! I am an intelligent viewer, do not take me for a fool. Like the famous saying goes: Don’t pee on my leg and then tell me it’s raining. AND AH Ro stays at home? She is not even a physician anymore in Hwarang House or a Wonwha or person LEADING in this Capital? And one, two, three...ranting over. That was actually very therapeutic. And I STILL love Hwarang.
Who is a popular actor that you can’t seem to get into?
I don’t really have one. Okay, I lie...Park Hyung Sik. Is that his name? I am awful. The guy who played SMJ in Hwarang. I loved him in Hwarang. Couldn’t watch him in Strong Woman.....etc... There’s no rhyme or reason to it. I still can’t figure out why.
What’s a popular drama that you didn’t like/dropped?
Don’t hate me...but it was Scarlet Heart. I watched three or six episodes probably eight and everything was great. I loved the directing and the actors and the scenes were gorgeous. But within a few of those episodes while reading the film...I knew, pretty much everyone was going to die. So I did not invest. I know...my screen name is also: Captain Avoid Angst.
Underrated favourite drama?
Hwarang. I really don’t think people saw how artful Hwarang was. It was definite textbook filming. And I mean beautiful textbook filming. There were so many scenes that flashed back and forth in poetry seamlessly. I keep meaning to gif them. (*cough* except E19 and E20). I am also watching Rebel: Thief of the People. And it’s a beautiful all around display of how film works. There are so many scenes that I can just talk on and on about. The positioning of the one scene with his two young sons waving at him at the top of the hill. And their father having to travel far to find a new way of life for them. It had HONOR all over that scene. Visually showing how far a father will sacrifice to see his children rise in this life.
An actor/actress you wish would do dramas more often?
Bae Doona. I first discovered Bae Doona by watching this amazing actress as part of the Sense 8 on Netflix. She is a STAR! Her scenes show independence, strength and a lot of kick ass. There is so much honesty in her scenes that I believe and trust her every word and action. And she is FEARLESS! And Sense 8 Season 2 comes out this Friday, May 5th. I recently read that she will be in a K-drama for TVn called Forest of Secrets. It’s been eight years since she’s been in a television drama. I CANNOT wait!
A guilty pleasure drama?
I made a goal last year that guilt wasn’t going to be a part of my life. And I will never be guilted into doing or NOT doing anything. LOL So what's a show that I watch for pleasure? ANY that strikes my fancy. I have enjoyed: Father I’ll Take Care of You.
What drama would you say has the best ending?
Hmmmmm....Age of Youth. Any ending that leads to a welcoming Season 2.
If you could crossover two (or more) dramas, what would they be?
Age of Youth and Hwarang. A Coming of Age like you’ve never seen before.
Who is a female character that the fandom hated, but you loved?
I am with Belladonna on this: Ah Ro in Hwarang. Most of this hate was unfounded. And heavy on alienation by the female audience. I have grown to love the actress who played Ah Ro, the lovely Go Ara. And I loved Ah Ro as a character. There is so much vulnerability that she shows in falling in love with someone. And the torment that comes because she believes she has fallen for her “brother.” What I don’t get is that the information of Dog Bird NOT being her brother is disclosed from the beginning. Yet the misplaced haters don’t understand her or want to understand her. If you are going to “hate” a female character in Hwarang (there were so few) then hate the Queen. The actress acted her butt off to hate her. Give the hate to the Queen. She earned it!
What’s your favourite fictional found family?
Rebel: Thief of the People. Unbreakable bond.....I cry and cheer for them. The family they were born into and the family created by choice. I am really hoping that they take in one more member. Can you guess who? Okay, two. Although their family is a whole village and city. See how this theme of family grows as we connect with other human beings?

I think we play off each other super well in this song - different flows, rhyme schemes, delivery, etc. FAVORITE LINE: "I'm a manager - far from amateur / little nigga run the game of thrones; Tyrion Lannister"...I've been waiting literally YEARS to be able to use that line - like I think I wrote it in 2011 or 2012, lol. it just never fit in any rap i did, until now of course! my preference to this line probably explains my preferential treatment of it in the song - what with all of the effects and dropping the beat out, haha.
