Asynchronous With You: Ch 5.5
ship: naruhina
rating: teen (references to much ecchi this chapter)
tags: Modern Day AU, Foster Siblings, Family, Angst, Unrequited Love, Poor Communication
summary: An awkward journey full of self-denial and missed moments between two foster siblings. Perhaps their love will find the right timing someday.
She can't stand herself right now, so she makes him feel like he's the untolerated one
She just wants to be alone.
Between the abandonment from her parents, the fact that she wronged Hanabi and will deserve the worst outcome for it, to the way Naruto skillfully fucks up her emotions without even trying, she just wants it all to stop.
It's all… so itchy.
These events and circumstances, they gravitate to her, they stick to her fly-trap skin and die. And she can't be rid of it.
It's all fated.
Her whole existence is one incurable allergy, and continued exposure will only lead to anaphylaxis.
However, if she closes her eyes and lays very still atop her covers, she can dream of a world where everything is as it should be.
One where her parents cherish her and she and Hanabi are one of the closest sisters you'll ever see.
A world where Neji didn't lose his parents, yet it would still feel like he's always lived with her in the same house.
A world where Naruto had never been orphaned, had grown up secure in the love of his parents so that he didn't have to inebriate himself on his vices.
She just can't stand being his sister, because it makes her feel depraved.
She can't stand all the ways that she wants to compete against those other girls.
She's got the home advantage.
Proximity is everything, or it should be.
She doubts he would hate it if he found the hole had grown bigger. She doubts he would hate testing it out.
She pictures it and pictures it, and it's exciting. Tingles shoot down into her belly, traveling lower and lower.
It's so wrong how much she wants to be claimed.
She knows he wouldn't dare.
She knows he would hate it if the one offering themselves on the other side was her.
She can't stand how she had wanted to be curled against his side on the train ride to Neji, how she wished his voice would tickle her ears again like when they were kids, giving her the reassurance that she needed.
She can't stand how she had conspired with Neji to make Naruto feel off-kilter, like he didn't know her at all, just to hand off this whole cosmic unfairness onto him.
Any effort on her part brings them closer together as foster siblings, so really, could anyone blame her for giving up at this point?
She's starting to feel itchy again.
Hinata sucks in a sharp breath as she wills her legs to work.
She needs to apologize to him.
She wobbles out of her room, then leans against his bedroom door. She knocks against the wood. Her efforts are weak at first, hesitant pauses punctuated between each knock. Then desperation finally takes hold, and her knocking picks up as much volume as intensity.
She knows what she's here to do.
It's not that hard.
But the hushed desires crowding the back of her mind, the clawing need to clear the air and put her anxieties down for good, these make it so hard for her to breathe.
These make her not trust herself to be alone with him.
The door handle rotates, the click hitting her ears like the cocking of a gun hammer.
Her heart seizes in a panic.
He greets her with an affronted frown, then tugs at his earbud wires. Thunderous drums and riotous electric guitars buzzed like industrial wasps from the earbuds. When he hit pause on his phone screen, the absence of noise made their home feel like a cave.
Cold and vast.
"I-I have things to say." Her nose wrinkled with embarrassment.
Naruto stepped away from the door, allowing her passage into his room.
It feels like it's been forever since she's stepped foot in here. The posters were all different, and there was an abundance of them plastered along his walls. To her shame, the ceiling over his bed was also well-decorated with the ripped out pages of Gravure models. They all had different looks, different shapes and sizes.
Did he really have no preference?
As she hovered awkwardly in the middle of his room, he took a seat on his bed and patted the empty spot beside him.
She stared, her skepticism all too open.
"Hinata…" His eyes implored her, but when she would still go no closer to him, he was reminded of a life he had thought long-forgotten, back when he was treated like a germ. He shut his mouth, and buried that pain down deep. He couldn't bring himself to say those words. It felt way too pathetic.
His eyes followed her as she headed for his desk and slid the chair out from it. But then she stood there, staring at it too, like it would infect her.
With a growl, he collapsed onto his bed. "You're not going to sit, you're not going to talk--"
"I am going to talk."
"So talk." He laced his fingers behind his head, staring at her pointedly.
She pushed the chair back, and turned towards him, her hands wringing themselves to the point of splintering bones.
"I'm sorry. Neither of us have had a choice in all of this. The only thing we can choose to do is be better to each other."
His pointed look evolved with a lifted eyebrow. "Yeah, we kind of decided that early on, didn't we? I made sure to get along with Neji, and I protected you. It's what I could do. The bullying you endured didn't just stop for no reason."
"I-I know. And what I'm saying is, I'm the-the one whose g-given up on--" Her stuttering caused him to sit up.
"Hey, Hinata? Hey, hey, hey," He stood up and walked over to her, his hands clasping over her strangled ones. "It's okay. C'mon, it's okay. Try to breathe," he extricated her hands from each other and squeezed each of them in his own, offering her strength. "Breathe. Breathe."
But that shaky breath she took caused a few tears to let loose, and for her to question her purpose here.
When he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, holding her tight, her mouth smashed against his shoulder, the sobs wouldn't stop. The air was like pins in her throat and she felt so, so itchy.
His bedroom was caked in perfume and sex just as she had always imagined, and she wanted to wipe that all away.
"I c,c,can't be a g,good s,s,sister."
She wanted to love him fully.
He stroked her hair and shushed her.
"You'll be an amazing sister. That little brat already loves you. Hell, sometimes I think I won the lottery myself, y'know?"
She wanted to pound her fists against his chest. Instead she clawed the fabric of his lounge hoodie, because she may not be able to hold onto him like this for much longer.
I don't want to be your sister.
I don't want you for a brother.
These are the things she wishes she could say. With every intention of making it up to him, if he would have her.
Before she came here, she needed to gauge how badly he wanted to be part of this family. But now that he went and said something like that… she doesn't have the heart to take this away from him.
"I-I'll do better, Naruto-lun, I,I,I'll do better."
"Geez, you push yourself hard enough, don't you?" He teased.
In the world she dreams up when her eyes are closed, she's able to press her lips to his, all questions erased from both their minds as they melt into the rightness of each other's bodies.
In reality, this is as far as they can go.
AN: I didn't feel comfortable leaving them all passive-aggressive and whatnot, because I no longer like that part of my writing? I think in the past I was fascinated with the whole concept of 'this is what happens when you let things be', but lately it's not all that fascinating, it actually feels pretty dumb. So maybe this is just one of those stories where it's like, 'Yeah, this ain't working for this'. Also, I used to think communication, even if it's healthy, was boring no matter what. Like, 'Easily solved! There is no story!', but lately my mindset on that has evolved and maybe that's because of exposing myself to better stories and media. Anyways, another short one, unfortunately, but I hope you liked it! This chapter has allowed me to go back to advancing the plot with summaries, so I'm quite looking forward to speeding things up. IDK if there is actual NH juiciness up ahead, but we'll see the story allows. 😅 I really had imagined Hinata getting up to more bold 'hint-dropping hijinks' like she did with her shirt, but it seems like it wrote itself out. :( lesigh.

word count: 2,102
warnings: fluff,,,just fluff
summary: you and neji have been seeing each other in secret. naruto suspects that something is going on between you two, his failed attempt at spying on one of your training sessions gets him caught and questioned. lee invites everyone to go to the bathhouse for a relaxing time off, naruto almost slips out the very secret he had recently discovered soon getting himself in a little trouble.
Tumblr media
“Have you given up?”
You smile through staggered breathing, you lay flat on the ground with one arm covering your eyes from the sun. The beaming sun accented every bead of sweat that lay on your face and neck. Soon after catching your breath you sat up, a smirk plastered on Neji Hyuga’s structured face. His own face and neck glistened with sweat giving him a glow that was strikingly beautiful.
“Come on, Neji. That’s not fair!” You leaned back on your hands gazing at the gorgeous jounin standing in front of you.
“You think your enemy is going to give you time to think and perform your ninjutsu for him? Now up, let’s try again.” He turns around walking back to the mark he drew for himself in the dirt. You sat there watching him, distracted by the slight swing of his long hair as he walked, your eyes trailed down slowly. Stopping at just the right spot.
“I do hope that is not how you gaze at Kakashi while he is training with you.”
“You want the truth or the lie about that statement?” You teased him, he closed his eyes and shook his head. You bit your lip, tilting your head toward your left shoulder. You were getting on his nerves slowly but surely.
Growing up with Neji, he never seemed to have any patience for immaturity and sly comments. He’s grown now, recently named a jounin of the leaf village. The more grown, the less patient. All the more reason to aggravate him as a way of passing time. Neji crosses his arms, gazing back at you, “He would be very upset with you right now, your lack of motivation to keep training would be bothersome to someone as busy as him.”
“Come on, Neji. He’s been my sensai since I was a kid-.” He cuts you off, “You are still a kid in his eyes, especially with this behavior. He left you to me to train.”
“Well he doesn’t have very much insight on just who he let train with me now does he?” You stood up, brushing the dirt from your pants. You started to walk toward him, his arms stayed crossed over his chest.
You stood very close to him at this point, you slightly pouted while resting your chin on his firm chest. Keeping his arms crossed over his chest, he leaned down to press a light kiss on your nose. It was short and sweet, the gesture causing you to flush. You stood lightly on your tip toes, just before your lips attempted to meet his, you heard rustling in the bushes.
“Neji.” You pulled away from him fast, he seemed to notice the rustling too. Grabbing your hand, he pulled you behind him as he focused on one area of the small forest surrounding the training grounds.
“Byakugan!”
You rested your hand against his back as he looked around, the strain in his eyes visible as he turned to the side. You looked closely behind the both of you. Straining your own eyes it didn’t take the eyes that held the Byakugan or the Sharingan to spot a bright blonde tuft of hair peeking through the bushes.
“This chakra.”
You walked away from Neji and started to make your way over to the bushes. The blonde genin didn’t seem to notice that you had spotted him. You folded your arms over your chest.
“Naruto.”
He froze at the sound of your voice. Neji stood behind you when the genin sheepishly stood from hiding. Naruto scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, a beaming smile of guilt on his face.
“Uhh, hey guys!”
“So you lied about going on a mission,” Naruto nervously giggled, “Spill it, Naruto.” You raised your fist up at him causing his blue eyes to widen.
“O-Okay, okay! I noticed something...strange. When I returned to the leaf village from my training, you and Neji were oddly close,” You could feel Neji’s eyes on the back of your head, “I asked Sakura and Kakashi-sensei about it and they didn’t have any idea what I was on about. So I uh...I followed both of you here, when I saw that you were just training I figured I’d just leave but then.” He stopped rambling, looking between the both of you.
You sighed, disappointed was the most simple word to explain your feelings. You and Neji tried to keep your public displays of affection for times when you were alone, it was a surprise nobody noticed him sneaking out of the main house of the Hyuga clan to be with you. It wasn’t the smartest idea to tease Neji like you had today in an open training ground. How were you to know there was a perv spying on you both?
Neji had stepped closer to you, he noticed how tense you were. Though he wasn’t too happy with the situation either, it was only Naruto that saw. He had just hoped that the loud idiot would keep their secret to himself. Neji gently placed his hand on your lower back as a sign of comfort.
“Naruto.”
His big blue eyes had turned to look at Neji’s light lavender ones. Neji’s gaze was stern, he narrowed his eyes at Naruto in warning.
“You are to tell no one about what you saw. For obvious reasons, we have kept this a secret. You will deeply regret telling a soul.”
There was a pause, Naruto blinked once and smiled real big, “Ah don’t worry, your secret is safe with me!” He gives both of you a thumbs up to which you responded with a facepalm and a sigh from Neji.
“Oh! Bushy brow wanted me to find you both anyway to tell you that we’re having a get together with everyone at the bathhouse. He rambled on and on about relaxing after endless missions and caring for ourselves...or something like that. It’s been awhile since we’ve all hung out, so come on, let’s go!”
You started to follow Naruto, Neji had grabbed your hand,”(Y/N), we’re not done training.”
You groaned, by now Naruto had skipped ahead and left you two by yourselves, “Neji, we’ve been training all day, let’s take a break, we need it. Please, please.” You bounced on the balls of your feet. Neji responded with a huff, he crossed his arms over his chest and closed his eyes. You took the opportunity to look around you, straining your eyes yet again to see if you could find a soul nearby.
Calling it safe, you rested your hands on his arms, leaning up on your tiptoes you gave him a simple peck on the lips. Neji was worrisome after the pure action, panicked, he looked around. You grabbed the sides of his face, pressing his forehead against yours.
“It’s alright, I promise.”
-
You and Neji arrived at the bathhouse separately like normal. You arrived at the same time Tenten did, she shared some mission stories as you walked into the area where ladies only stayed and relaxed in the bath. You both undressed and playfully pushed each other to get to the bath. Sakura, Ino and Hinata already getting into the hot water.
You and the girls made small talk here and there about missions until the subject of boys popped up. This was no surprise, you’ve been to dinner get togethers with just the girls and this is the one topic that pops up. Hinata blushed as usual talking about her very obvious crush on Naruto, Ino and Sakura putting a damper on their mood talking about Sasuke Uchiha, Tenten didn’t really say much about it, she only made a sly comment that boys were stressful.
Then they all looked to you, “I agree with Tenten, boys have cooties.” You pucker your lips and make kissy noises at all of them causing an eruption of laughter.
On the other side of the wall is a room full of guys relaxing in the water slyly listening in on the girls as they talk. Neji can’t help but smile a little at your comment, he cleared his throat, sinking deeper into the water, hoping nobody had seen him.
“Those girls sure are noisy,” Shikamaru groans, leaning his head back on the tile surrounding the bath. All six guys murmur in agreement.
“Hey Neji, how’s training going with (Y/N) anyway?” Kiba scrubs Akamaru’s head as he directs his question to the flushed jounin.
“Oh, well. She’s quite a handful, she’s incredibly strong but she seems distracted which is causing her actions to be slower. I’m not sure why she is.”
“Haha, sure you know why she is, Neji!”
The guys turn to look at the beaming Naruto who sits on top of the tile with his legs in the water. After realizing shortly what he had said, he made immediate eye contact with Neji who was glaring at him.
“Uh, I mean. Hey, I think I hear bushy brow, I’ll go meet him!” Naruto swiftly jumps up, wraps his towel around his waist and quickly walks out of the bathing area.
That idiot, Neji thought.
“What was he on about?” Shikamaru glances from where Naruto had just left and back to Neji. Neji shrugs nonchalantly, “He’s been acting strange. He could be going on about anything.”
A few minutes of the dropped subject had passed as the boys finally sat back and relaxed.
A loud crash next door startles them, Neji being the first to jump out of the water, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around his waist. He ran next door, shortly followed by everyone else, “Naruto, you perv!” Neji spots a stunned Naruto standing in the doorway of the women’s bathing area, “No, wait, it wasn’t me!”
“Don’t act all innocent Rock Lee!”
“Rock Lee.”
Neji and the others scatter into the bathing area, “What the hell is going on here?” A small part of the roof had collapsed, the dust cleared and he sees all of the girls dressed except for you who held a kunai knife in one hand and a towel that barely covered your body in the other.
“Rock Lee has been peeping on us,” Tenten points over to where Ino has grabbed onto Lee’s collar screaming insults at him, Lee is helpless and panicking as the girl screams in his face about being a pervert.
“He did what?! How improper!” Neji wanted so bad to run and find your clothes so weren’t so exposed to all of the guys in the room but his focus was on Lee.
Lee had managed to escape Ino’s grasp, with tears in his eyes he ran as fast as he could away from the angry shinobi.
‘Don’t let him get away!’
‘That pervert!’
‘He’s gonna pay for this!”
You and Naruto were the only ones left behind as you frantically looked for your clothes but couldn’t find certain items that could be under the rumble that Lee fell through.
“Naruto, come on.”
“He didn’t do it,” Naruto mumbled.
“What? What do you mean?”
“He wasn’t peeping, he was training on the rooftops and he must’ve-.” You cut him off, believing him you grabbed his hand, “Well come on then, we can’t let him get beat up, he’s scared. Come on! Let’s go!”
You and Naruto had made it just in time to break through the forming circle around a frantic Rock Lee who was trying to defend himself.
“Wait, stop! Bushy brows isn’t that kind of person, so if he says he’s innocent then I believe he’s innocent. Don’t judge him when you don’t have any proof that he’s guilty. Trust in your comrade.”
You glanced over the guilty faces of your friends, “Maybe you’re right.”
“Have a big heart and an open mind.” Naruto starts to turn to Lee, Lee seemed nervous as he did.
“Naruto, wait!”
The formed circle of shinobi all gasp as they spot a laced bra hanging out of Naruto’s towel. Neji glared at the provocative item, he thought he recognized it.
“Hey, that’s mine.” You self consciously wraps your arms around your chest. Naruto had taken your bra?
“Naruto, you underwear thief!” Sakura, Ino and Tenten all glare at Naruto. You were pulled behind a soaked Neji in only his towel who was fuming with anger.
“What?”
Sakura was the first to get her punch on Naruto, her strength idling him enough to where no one else needed to take a hit on him.
You leaned your forehead on Neji’s bare shoulder.
“Oh, Naruto.”

Lost a Bet (Part 2)
Part 1
AN: *throws fic into the sasuhina dumpster* I’m not dead, please don’t kill me, I really missed writing for this ship.
p.s. there is a small seen about some injuries that may seem out of place, but hopefully what Sasuke thinks later explains why it’s there.
Lost a Bet
Sasuke was never one for early mornings, especially when he knew that he would have to deal with a lot of people during the day. He took his time getting ready, not caring that he would be late getting to the house to help the others finish it. As he finished getting ready he saw the bento box clean next to his sink and it clicked in his mind that that day was going to be especially annoying as he grabbed the box and slipped it into his bag and left his apartment building.
Sasuke did have to admit that at least it was more peaceful to walk around earlier in the morning, not as many glaring faces as he made his way to the section of the city that was still under reconstruction. After walking for about 10 minutes, he started to hear hammering, loud voices, and he smelled the dusty scent that still lingered as strongly as if the buildings had just been destroyed. He caught a few odd glances from some of the workers as he passed other projects and then came to the doorway of the house he would be working at. As he stepped through the doorway, he wished he had earplugs as he was greeted by Naruto’s boisterous voice.
“Hey Teme, you’re late!”
“Hn, whatever.” Sasuke said as he walked over to the wall where everyone’s bags were and dropped his bag next to them.
“Hey he’s here Naruto, just leave it.” Sakura said as she came from the kitchen with some sawdust already on her shorts. Sasuke looked at her and saw Hinata and Hanabi enter the room behind her. Sasuke briefly caught Hinata’s eyes before he looked back to Sakura when she resumed speakking.
“You’ll be working on the roof with Shino and Shikamaru, Sasuke. Tools are set up on a table outside by the ladder” Sakura said and gestured behind her to an opening in the wall that was going to be a traditional sliding door when the house was done.
‘At least they aren’t much for conversation’ Sasuke thought to himself. He nodded his head and moved to walk outside only to be called out to by Naruto.
“Hey, you have to tell me who helped you out with our little bet yesterday!” Naruto yelled then his face settled with a devilish grin and the rest of the rookie nine, plus team Gai, stopped their preparations to work or continued, but were really paying attention. Hinata didn’t move from behind Sakura.
“Shut up Dobe, it is too early to deal with your loud voice.” Sasuke replied
“You aren’t getting out of answering me.” Naruto stated. It was clear that the others were also interested with Sasuke seemingly trying to refuse to tell him. A few started to wonder if Sasuke was not giving a name because there was no one, while the others knew that he was too stubborn too have just left early if he hadn’t been able to prove Naruto wrong. Shikamaru actually spoke up seemingly from nowhere.
“Worry about it at lunch Naruto, I didn’t get dragged out of my bed by you and your girlfriend after you  this early to deal with this.”
“It won’t take long if he just tells me” Naruto countered.
“Naruto, all of us here know that it won’t end with his answer. You will go off on some adventure to find her or just waste time ragging on Sasuke. This childish bet can be discussed when we don’t have so much work to do.” Neji stated with a knowing look directed at Naruto as the others nodded in agreement. Naruto just glared at Neji then looked back to Sasuke.
“Fine, you got lucky, but you are telling me at lunch Teme.” he said as he grabbed a tool box and walked into an adjacent room to be followed by a few others to work on finishing the walls up. Everyone else started resuming their tasks or heading towards their work space. Sasuke followed after Shino and Shikamaru to head outside. On his way, he stopped to talk to Hinata before she could follow Sakura and her sister into the room next to the kitchen where they were insulating the walls before they could finish them.
“You can just go somewhere else for lunch if you want, I don’t think he will try to track you down because he would know you would be back after lunch.”
“It’s fine, I can deal with Naruto” Hinata said as she picked up some tools to take with her.
“Hn. I washed that bento box and brought it with me, I’ll give it back to you before the end of the day.”
“Okay.” Hinata said then went off into the next room. Sasuke watched for a brief few seconds as she seemed to be discussing something with Sakura and Hanabi then left and went outside.
By the time lunch came around, everyone welcomed a break. In comparison to how relatively put together everyone was in the morning, all the guys had shed their shirts already or were down to tanktops and all the girls had on shorts and tank tops and every one of them had their hair up, but pieces of hair that had fallen from ponytails and buns were plastered to their necks and faces. Everyone grabbed their bags and gathered in the courtyard and collapsed onto the grass. Water bottles and sandwiches were passed around. A few people sent some questioning gazes towards Hinata when they thought she couldn’t tell as she was talking to Sakura. She was the only one other than Shino wearing full length pants and was the only one wearing long sleeves. A few people caught bits and pieces of the conversation, such as Hinata giving multiple reassurances to Sakura about her being fine. When Sakura held Hinata’s wrist and her hand glowed green briefly, everyone assumed that they were discussing the injury she got the day before.
“Are you okay Hinata? Is your wrist still hurt?” Ino asked in concern from across the other side of the circle they were all sitting in.
“Yes, my wrist is fine, she just wanted to double check.” Hinata said and shared a look with Sakura.
“Yeah, she did well.” Sakura said as she dropped Hinata’s wrist and returned her attention to her food.
“That’s good.” Ino responded. Everyone returned their attention to their remaining food and didn’t catch a look that Hinata shared with Hanabi and Neji. Everyone’s attention was quickly redirected to Naruto when he spoke.
“Okay Sasuke, we still have some time on our lunch so there is no work to save you now. Who kissed you?” Naruto asked and looked at Sasuke. Sasuke looked around the circle to ensure that no one noticed when he looked towards Hinata and she nodded slightly with an almost imperceptible blush on her face because her face was already flushed from the heat. When he finished glancing around, his eyes rested on Naruto with a glare.
“Just calm down Dobe and don’t harass her.”
“Stop stalling!”
Sasuke glared a few more moments then sighed. “It was Hyuuga.” he said and looked at Hinata. Everyone could guess which Hyuuga he would be talking about given the context, but it did help solidify that he wasn’t joking when she looked at him briefly and didn’t deny it. It was silent for a moment before Naruto’s laugh broke the calm.
“Yeah right, she wouldn’t do that. You liar, she-” Naruto said to Sasuke.
“Naruto.” Hinata interrupted and settled him with a calm gaze and didn’t say a word. Sasuke could almost feel Neji’s glare and he caught Hanabi’s small playful smirk. He also caught a few surprised looks.
“Hinata-sama?” Neji asked calmly, knowing that he shouldn’t overreact. She simply nodded in response.
“Did he ask you to just agree with him? I saw him talk to you earlier, are you just helping him?” Kiba asked in an irritated tone.
“No.” Hinata answered.
“Then what was he talking to you about? This has to be a joke.” Naruto stated. Hinata shook her head again then looked at Naruto.
“I took him dinner last night because he was still standing at that corner for your bet.”
“So you took him food, that doesn’t prove anything.”
“You said you needed to be able to ask the girl, you asked, and she confirmed, now finish eating dobe.” Sasuke stated. Naruto just dumbly looked from Sasuke then to Hinata. She nodded again.
“I am not a liar, nor is this a favor that I would just do for someone. Take my word Naruto.” Hinata stated simply, a hint of irritation lacing her voice. Naruto didn’t speak. Hinata huffed and stood up, a nearly imperceptible look of pain on her face and walked over to Sasuke, but continued to address Naruto. “Last night, we walked by him as a group around seven. After I ate dinner with my family and spent some time with Hanabi, I prepared a bento box and left around 8:15, right Hanabi?” She asked.
“Yes” Hanabi replied after taking a second to rethink the night before.
“I went to see if Sasuke was still there. I gave him the bento, which he didn’t eat right away. I asked him why and he said he would prefer to eat it when he got home because he had to wait at that corner until 9. When he talked to me earlier, it was about returning that bento box.” Hinata stated then looked at Sasuke then his bag. Sasuke took the bento box from his bag and handed it to Hinata. She then turned and showed it to Naruto. “See?”’ Naruto.
“I went to see him a few minutes before 9 and he was gone. So you had left just a little bit before I got there?” he asked.
“Yes. It was clear to me that he was going to stand there, and with what you just said, I correctly guessed that you would go bug him for not getting a girl to kiss him. It seemed as though him standing there all day wasn’t humiliating enough for you Naruto. I kissed him, he won your bet, and we went our separate ways.” She stated in a frustrated tone. She was irritated remembering how Naruto had acted the day before. She still admired Naruto, but he was aggravating sometimes. Naruto looked at her then away. She turned and walked back to her spot and heard footsteps behind her and then Naruto’s hand rested on her shoulder and she cringed slightly and Naruto stepped back a half step. Neji’s, Hanabi’s, and Sakura’s’ eyes narrowed slightly.
“Naruto just let her sit down.” Sakura said and took the bento from Hinata’s hand as Hinata moved to continue to her spot to sit down, only to feel Naruto put his hands on her shoulders and turn her towards him.
“I just want to apologize.” he said then as Hinata turned to him he went to look at her and tell her he was sorry when she pushed his hands off of her and stepped back with a pained expression on her face and Neji was up and about to forcefully push him away from her but she quickly did a half turn and got between Neji and Naruto and stopped Neji’s hand before it connected with Naruto and stopped Naruto’s hand as his was about to reflexively strike Neji in retaliation.
“Stop.”‘ She ordered and everyone was silent again. Her arms trembled slightly as she released her grip on them. She stepped towards her spot and Hanabi had barely stood up in time to stop her from falling.
“Hinata?” Naruto asked as Sakura whispered quietly to Hinata and handed her a bottle of water.
“She has been training with our father Naruto. She trains with him at night, trains by herself afterwards, then wakes up early to come here. She didn’t want anyone to worry about her, so she only told Sakura. That’s why she works with Sakura everyday, in case her injuries are too much.”
“What is your father thinking? He knows she helps out everyday. How could he-” Ten-Ten started to say but Neji cut her off.
“Hiashi sama temporarily stopped the training a week ago because of that. Hinata-sama didn’t want to take time to rest when she knew she could help out as much as she could to rebuild the village.” Neji stated.
“Before any of you say anything, I am okay, I am healing, Sakura is helping me and thank you all for being concerned, I can see it on your faces. “ Hinata said calmly after taking a sip of water. “We need to get back to work, I’ll rest a little okay?” She said and looked at Sakura, who gave a worried look, but nodded.
“She’s right, besides half of you have some work injuries anyway or have had them” Sakura pointed out, understanding Hinata and understanding what it is like to be pitied from when she was pitied before. Everyone nodded and agreed, Ino, Ten Ten, and Shikamaru lightly touching their basic injuries that they would only take are of after the end of the day. Everyone went back to work and idle chatter resumed. Everyone understood that people would neglect resting to help someone else out and everyone knew that that of course applied to Hinata too.
The next few hours were peaceful, as peaceful as a construction site could be anyway. As the sun started to sit, the work slowed down and people started to finish their last tasks. As Sasuke walked into the house having grabbed his bag from the courtyard, he saw Hinata placing multiple bags on a table then taking out cartons with the names of everyone on them, she had gone to get everyone dinner, Sakura had held her to her word and she didn’t do much heavy work for the rest of the day. Sasuke walked to her and set her bag next to her.
“I grabbed it, it was near mine.” he stated then wordlessly helped her place cartons on the table then grabbed the one with his name on it and walked towards the door. He wasn’t one for small talk nor having acknowledgement for helping her. He hadn’t known how else to slightly apologizing for inadvertently causing her to be put in a situation to be hurt.
“It wasn’t your fault.” She stated and finished setting up the table and turned to him as others started to wander in to get their food and eat together or grab theirs and leave.
“Yesterday you were up later to make a bento”
“Yesterday you should have eaten by then”
“‘Hn.” he said so no one knew what they had talked about. He wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but what had happened earlier had surprised Sasuke a lot. Based on the past few days, Sasuke realized that he didn’t know a lot about Hinata, only to realized that what he now knew, he admired about her or appreciated it. Her quiet nature appealed to his unwillingness to fill the air with needless conversation. He admired her strength and while her stubbornness was irritating, he also found it endearing. She had managed to make all of friends go quiet by using a single word and stopping two gifted ninjas from even making contact with each other, all while badly injured. She had quite a resolve. He was broke from his revelations and musings by Naruto.
“Sorry Hinata, for all of it and you too Sasuke.” Naruto stated quickly when he wandered in. Sasuke just looked at him and Naruto knew he was accepting the apology and not caring about it anyway. Hinata turned to Naruto with a gentle smile.
“It’s okay, you didn’t know and you were just surprised, you just should have trusted our words.” she stated. Naruto scratched the back of his head nervously.
“Yeah I know. I just couldn’t believe it.”
“I don’t think anyone really could.” Kiba said. A few others nodded.
“You aren’t really known for being so bold Hinata.” Ten Ten said with a small playful smirk.
“Hmph.” Hinata said then grabbed her bags as Hanabi handed them to her.
“Let’s go Onee-chan, we have to get home for dinner.” She said and headed past Sasuke and waited at the entrance for Hinata. Hinata walked towards her but stopped in front of Sasuke with a small mischievous look on her face
“I hope you have a pleasant evening.” she said and got on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek and then walked out the door, having to pull Hanabi from the doorway because she had frozen. Everyone else was frozen as well. Before anyone could react, Sasuke spoke.
“It’s pleasant now.” He said loudly with a smirk, hearing Hinata’s light laugh fading away then he left the building and headed back to his apartment before an angry cousin, teammate, or friend of Hinata’s could catch up to him.

Naru reta ai (Painted Love)
Chapter 1: Flower and Garden
Pairing: Sai & Yamanaka Ino; Saiino
It was the first day of classes and finally everyone took a step forward in their year levels
Konoha Gakkuen is a prestigious school in the whole of Japan, being included at the ‘Five Gakkuen Summit’. The ‘Five Gakkuen Summit’ is where only the best schools of Japan are included, they may excel academically, in their extracurricular activities, and the likes.
“Ahhh… It’s the first day of school again.” Walking towards the gates of the School, Ino stretched both her arms upwards as she heaves out a tired yawn.
Yamanaka Ino, being born as only child in a family of Florists and a Japan National Police Officer; she was raised in the calmness of flowers and courage of reality. Smart, Beautiful, and a bit Sassy, that’s how her friends describe her. The class flower, that’s how her beauty is fairly described.
Arriving in her respective classroom, she was a bit early for the Traditional Konoha Gakkuen Opening Ceremony which will be held at the School Gym.
An empty classroom welcomed her, she knew it was too early and being the first student in class wasn’t a part of her plan, if it wasn’t for her uptight father that woke her up an hour earlier than what she had expected.
A sigh escaped her lips as she slumped on an empty seat close to where she was standing “I could’ve slept for atleast an hour if it wasn’t for Otousan.” She said to herself, when suddenly she heard the sliding door open, causing her to tilt her head towards the direction.
The person who entered the room got her eyes went wide when upon noticing Ino seated not far from the doorway; a smile immediately lit the person’s face but was later on replaced by an annoyed look.
“I saw you smile a while ago, are you that happy seeing me? Or are you happy that Otousan sent me to school really early too, Sakura.” Ino greeted her childhood bestfriend Sakura upon entering the room with a sour look; Ino’s eyes snickered at Sakura’s direction. Teasing her with an annoying grin.
Sakura took a seat beside Ino and immediately rested her head on the desk; her short pink hair all messed up as she mumbled files of complain as to why she was also sent to school real early.
Ino laughed teasingly at her bestfriend’s suffering, ignoring the fact she was the same as her; sent to school way early. “So…” Ino’s voice became calm again as she continued, catching Sakura’s attention. “Seems like Sasuke-kun won’t be going back to Konoha Gakkuen anymore huh?” Her voice had hints of sadness in them, as Sakura looked at her with the same expression.
“I-I know Sasuke-kun will still be back… I just know it…” Sakura forced a smile as she straightened her back, adjusting her body; her statement wasn’t a word of encouragement for Ino, but it was directly to Sakura herself, motivating the trust and the feeling of affection that had built-up inside her towards her longtime one-sided love for Uchiha Sasuke. A Konoha Gakkuen Student, but was expelled due to violating school rules and regulations.
The two ladies conversed with each other until their topic went from being anxious towards Sasuke to now giggling as they chat about certain girl-y things. It took them almost an hour before the room started to get filled with students, some were their classmates from before and others were students from other section which are now mixed up to be their classmates for the current school year.
Familiar faces like Uzumaki Naruto, Rock Lee, Hyuga Neji, Tenten Xiao, Nara Shikamaru, and Akimichi Choji are present inside the classroom and are currently gathered around the two ladies.
All of them were friends for so long, some were their classmates since their Middle School and others were when they were in their Junior Years and lastly some were their childhood friends. 3 of their friends were sadly designated to a different section, which are Hyuuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, and Aburame Shino.
“Oi! Seems like Kiba, Hinata, and Shino are the unfortunate ones this year.” Naruto spoke as he ascends towards the peer.
Neji nodded quietly as he took the seat close towards the group since everyone has already chosen their seats, making sure they were close to each other.
“Last year, Sakura-san and Naruto were the unlucky ones to be separated from the group.” Rock Lee laughed at the memories from the past year, but then suddenly started to sob as he gazed at Sakura. “I was separated from my beloved Sakura-san… I thought I was gonna die!” His Exaggerated actions and words were the perfect combination to tick Sakura’s temper and in an instant, a strong punch landed on Lee’s face, knocking him off to doze.
“Why do I have to be on the same room as him!?” Sakura cracked her knuckles as if thinking of landing another punch even though Lee was already in a total knock-out, when suddenly the speakers from each of the rooms, the hallways, and also the whole campus turned on and an announcement could be heard.
“Goodmorning everyone, the Konoha Gakkuen Opening Ceremony will be starting at exactly 10 in the morning. Everyone is instructed to form an orderly line infront of their classrooms; students shall leave the building at 9:30 am, no one is allowed to leave early or be late. Current time is 9:10.” The announcement ended with a beep and everyone started to head out of the room to form a line on the hallway.
It didn’t took too long before the students were all lined up outside their rooms, the hallway was filled with chatters but was at minimal due to the students’ discipline… well, some.
“Maaaan~ I’m hungry! Maybe I should bring some chips inside. Choji interjected as he pats his round stomach with a troubled look plastered on his face.
“Oi! Choji! Bring some!” A familiar voice came from the back of their line and saw Kiba with Hinata and Shino standing in their respective line infront of their classroom; their room was only a classroom away from them which caused Kiba, Choji, Lee, and Naruto to shout whenever they want to speak with each other shouting at each other, making a ruckus on the hallway.
“Oi! Kiba! Kiba! Let’s go to the arcade later!” Naruto shouted with a grin on his face, which Kiba raised a thumbs up, accepting his invitation and him shouting back “Sure! I’ll be bringing Shino with me!”
“Me too! Me too!” Lee shouted in sync, forcing himself on the topic.
Their noise was totally unpleasant to the ears, where luckily, Tenten was there as the moderator of the group. “Shut up the 4 of you!” Tenten halted her shouting friends, which they immediately went silent. Sighs of relief could be heard from other students in the hallway, causing Tenten to bow apologetically at the other sections’ students.
“What a drag…” Shikamaru said to himself as he heaved out a stressed sigh.
“You’re all so noisy! Especially you Naruto!” Sakura instantly grabbed Naruto’s collar, wrinkling the cloth as she readies her knuckles to land a punch.
“S-sorry sorry Sakura-chan” Naruto’s face drained with color while both his hands were placed between, trying to give distance towards their body.
Sakura wasn’t budging from their stance and had made up her mind to land a strong punch on Naruto, knowing that they wouldn’t stay quiet not unless violence would be used to one of the four boys when suddenly just when Sakura’s fist was inches away from Naruto that the speaker started to play music and an announcement followed.
“Goodmorning everyone, time check is 9:30. Students are required to depart the building and head towards the Gym, please pass the hallways quietly and in an orderly conduct. Ushers are found at the entrance of the gym and your class shall be guided to your respective positions. That would be all, thank you.”
That announcement saved Naruto’s poor soul, and thus causing Sakura to spare him then roughly letting go of her grip on his collar.
“You’re lucky Naruto…” Ino interjected as she ran her fingers through her long blond hair..
With the signal from the speakers, the students head out towards the direction of the gym. Students were all lined up as they filled the brick floors on the campus field, heading to the gym. Murmurs and laughter could be heard as anxious and excitement weld them up; some excited over the fact that the first day of classes has already begun, and others complaining about their tardiness to attend school again.
As they passed through the grove of trees, Ino’s eyes immediately caught the patches of flowers hidden behind the large trunk of trees. This made her stop on her tracks and her eyes glimmered with amusement at the sight of such beautiful flowers reflected the morning dew on its petals. To others, this may be just a bunch of flowers, but since Ino grew up with the flowers raised by her mother in their humble flower shop, she learned to appreciate even the smallest and simplest sight of these plants.
Sakura, whom was following behind her accidentally bumped on to her shoulders causing the pink haired to halt on her tracks. “Oi! What gives?” Sakura exclaimed as she touches where their bodies collided.
Ino didn’t give any response to her friend as she was too immersed in the view. Sakura thought this was weird and quickly followed Ino’s line of sight, only landing on the sight of the flower beds at the corner.
“Oh...” Sakura immediately understood why her bestfriend was acting as such, and with a light smack that she gave on the blond’s shoulder, she titled her head towards the direction of the garden.
“Go, I’ll fill you in to Tenten.” The pink haired whispered, and without hearing a reply from Ino, she headed towards the distant line of their classmates.
“Thank you Sakura.” Ino said to herself, her words were blown by the soft morning breeze while her eyes followed the sight of her classmates drifting further away from her.
After minutes of watching them drift away, they could no longer be seen and an empty brick wall and quiet field gave Ino a calming sensation. Feeling refreshed, her feet padded towards the mini-garden filled with patches of flowers, and with a gentle touch, she admired the flowers as they danced in sync with the breeze.
“These are all Bellflowers...” She brushed her finger on the purple petal. “I’m glad they took care of them during Summer break.” Ino said to herself, her lips forming a pleased grin as she took a stroll around the flower beds when suddenly, her eyes quickly notices a small rectangular black object just inches away from the next patches of flowers.
Curios, she picked up the object and found it as a small notebook. Not being nosy, she flipped the pages to find any information about the owner since in the first place, she was the only person at the location and the students present are now at the gym.
“Wow... These are all amazing...” Ino wih her eyes wide open said in astonishment as her eyes wandered off to the different drawings of scenery in each pages; the last page with a drawing on it, the most recent one was the location where she is standing at the moment -- the flowerbeds and the whole view.
“Who could be the owner of this?” No complete name could be found at the cover of the pocket size notebook, but only the word “Shin” was written on the very first page.
She didn’t know how long her attention had been snatched away by the drawing inside the notebook, when suddenly the school bell rang. It was an indication that the Opening Ceremony has already ended, she was there for an hour and was absent during the event.
“Oh no!” Ino gasped upon noticing the time and quickly tucked the pocket-sized notebook inside her skirt pocket; Dashing her way towards the gym and getting her shot to sneak back in the line without Tenten or Neji noticing.
