Suguru Geto is a fucking eugenicist and I'm tired of people just brushing that aside to make silly gay fanart of him: an essay.
Hi hello JJK tag I have come to drop one singular essay to you and I do hope you'll at least listen, since it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
Before we get into the meat and potatoes of this essay, lets first define eugenics and why it's bad. Strictly speaking, eugenics is the movement for "racial purity" that requires the planned reproduction of people only within narrowly defined racial categories, as well as the elimination of undesirables within a population (oftentimes people of color, disabled people, and queer people) via sterilization or death. The movement began in the late 19th century and continues to some extent to this day. You can read more about it here if you're interested.
Eugenics goes hand in hand with other forms of bigotry and manifests in how people refer to each other, including some of the ways that Geto refers to non sorcerers within the manga, even before his death and subsequent possession of his body by a spirit. Geto refers to regular humans as "monkeys" and cleans himself in response to coming into contact with him. This sounds familiar, doesn't it?
This wording is very intentional on the part of Akutami and the translator. Geto is a villain and meant to be someone we see in disgust and while there are sympathetic villains in other series and I'm not going to say that you can never like villain characters (some of my own favorite characters are villains who have done fucked up things before), there is a difference between the two. Geto is specifically a representation of eugenicist, racist, xenophobic beliefs that exist in the real world. He is not someone who is fed up with the system, he is not someone who just wants to fuck around and find out.
This comment here further emphasizes my point. One of the core ideas behind scientific racism and eugenics is the idea of biological races or that people with different skin tones have different, distinct biological functions in their body. An example of this in our world involves GFR production and "race corrections" in kidney tests (source) that are only just starting to be phased out in the medical field. The idea of needing a race correction for something like kidney function is a product of scientific racism and indirectly plays into eugenics. Denying that people are the same race or even species as you because of uncontrollable factors (sorcerer abilities, skin color, country of origin, sexuality, gender, etc) is uh. Not a good thing!
"Monkeys" is a word that comes up frequently with Geto's talks on non sorcerers as well. It's a loaded term and again a deliberate choice on behalf of both Akutami and the translator to use it. Historically, due to scientific racism in the field of evolutionary science specifically, black people and people of color were assumed to be more closely related to monkeys and therefore "less evolved" than white people. It's a loaded word used with intention by Geto and by Akutami in the writing of Geto's character.
IN CONCLUSION can we please stop woobifying Geto as a character. His ideals and goals are an important part of him and watering him down to do gay shit with Gojo is really not what we should be doing with him in fan works. Yes Gojo's reaction to losing his friend to essentially the far right pipeline of eugenics and fascism is realistic and it's okay for Gojo to feel hurt and betrayed by this, but the reality is that Geto broke away because he believed so strongly that the world needed to be cleansed of non sorcerers and Gojo eventually accepted that he lost his friend, no matter how much it hurt to let go. This is an important part of Gojo's character arc and development but to ignore the everything about Geto's beliefs and never acknowledge them, or god forbid make JOKES about this stuff is a surefire way to make sure disabled people and people of color don't feel safe talking with you.
Notes:
I cannot stop you from shipping Satosugu or any other Geto ship. This essay was meant to inform people of the deeper meaning behind Geto's beliefs and maybe help some people see that real life issues are reflected in the media they consume. JJK is not a work that shies away from handling harder topics and this is no exception.
I will not be responding to any bad faith arguments on this post or in my inbox. If you have a genuine question feel free to come talk to me and I am willing to have a civil discussion with you about it, but calling me names or insulting me will be met with a block button so just save yourself the trouble and block me first.

Girl i hink i fell in love with your headcanons! Can I request some headcanons about nurse!reader they date says she has another man who is waiting for her in her hometown and she was thinking their relationship is not something serious and just for having fun. For Speirs, Roe, Winters and Nixon. Only if you are not busy of course ♡♡♡
Awe, thank you so much! I'm so glad that you like them, and of course you can request some 🤭 I loved this idea!
Speirs
The last thing he would want to do is step on another man's toes by coming between two people in a relationship, but there's something about you . . . he just can't stay away
I feel like he would be happy to be with you while he could
He understands that someone else is waiting for you and he respects that. At the same time, though, he wants to enjoy this while you both can
He's not the type to try and change your mind. He drinks his Respect Women Juice™️ and will be mindful of your boundaries
But if you - or anyone else, for that matter - ask, he'd be willing to admit that he's invested in this relationship
You'd both definitely get to have some fun sneaking around to see each other
Every time that your nurses' station is set up nearby, he pops in to visit you
Like, he's trying so hard to make it look casual, but all the other nurses are high-key jealous because the handsome man from Dog Company is making excuses to visit you (and to give you little gifts of whatever finery he's been looting lol)
When the war ends and you go your separate ways, his heart breaks a little
You'll always be sort of a "the one who got away" figure for him, but he would only ever think fondly of you
Roe
Y'all would totally hit it off as friends to begin with
You being a nurse and him being a medic, you would spend a lot of time together. The more that you get to know each other, the more that your affection for each other grows
Despite the fact that he's an introvert, I can totally see him opening up to you more than anyone else
Omg, can you imagine? Everyone knows Eugene as this quiet, polite medic, but put the two of you together and he's talking a mile a minute and laughing about every little inside joke between you
Pet names in French! It's very sweet. He never hesitates to display his affection for you in this way
Would be so conflicted when he realizes that you have someone else waiting for you at home
I mean, when the relationship finally starts, he's on cloud nine. So to find out that you had different thoughts about where the relationship was heading would lowkey crush him a bit
When you tell him about having someone back home, he gets very quiet. He looks so ashamed of himself. Especially when he finds his words and manages a sad, "Is there anything that I can do to change your mind?"
You would be so conflicted for the rest of the war, trying to figure out if you should head back home to the love that's waiting for you, or if you should stay with Eugene
I mean, the war changes everyone. What if the man waiting for you at home has changed - or what if you've changed too much for him? Eugene is right there, and he loves you as you are
The romance would definitely take on a bittersweet quality for the rest of the war as you try to make up your mind
But whatever you decide, Eugene would support your decision
Winters
Sneaking around with you is such a thrill for him
I mean, this is like the one time he's breaking the rules. It's kind of exhilarating to find excuses to go visit you at the nurses' station, or to see you sneaking into CP to visit him
I feel like he would think a little more realistically about a war time romance. Like, he understands that emotions are running high all the time, so part of him is always conscious of the fact that this might not last
So he's going to enjoy it while he can
He would constantly check in with you, though, trying to gauge where this is all going so that he doesn't get his hopes up
Let's face it: he's in love with you, and he'll show you through his affection, but he's trying so hard to respect your boundaries
He would occasionally drop hints about you coming to Pennsylvania with him after the war, but if you didn't seem interested in it, he would drop the subject immediately
When the war ends, y'all would definitely share a bittersweet moment where he kisses you goodbye and watches you leave, promising each other that you'll keep in touch
At least you can still be in each other's lives as friends - and if that's what you want, then it'll be good enough for him
Nixon
Okay, so elephant in the room - homeboy is married!
He would start the relationship with the attitude that it's just some casual fling until the war ends
He's more willing to flaunt the rules than others, so instead of sneaking to the nurses' station to see you, he totally just shows up lol
So open with his affection. This man is not worried about getting into trouble. After all, what's one broken fraternization policy in the grand scheme of the whole war?
Because of this, you both feel that you're on the same page about where this relationship is going - as in nowhere, because you both hold on to the idea that it's just for fun until the war ends
I think it would hit him at some point in Bastogne that he has real feelings for you
Winters probably has to point it out to him, haha
And then after that, he would be doing everything in his power to show you that his emotions run so much deeper than what he shows on the surface
He's not the greatest at using his words, so he's probably trying to show you with actions, and starts being more physically affectionate when you're together, or trying to give you gifts
When he finds out that his wife is divorcing him, it feels like a sign that he's meant to be with you
He would definitely go out of his way to confess how he really feels and to try and convince you to come to New Jersey with him after the war
You tell him that you'll have to think about it, and waiting for your answer would be the most nerve-racking time of his entire life, because he's never so badly wanted something to work out
Thank you for the request! I hope you like these 💕🕊️

how do u set up machine translation?
OK SO
First of all, I downloaded a website translator. I use mate translate, a firefox extension. It's an absolute lifesaver for navigating ANY site not in English.
Using that I made an account on Munpia and bought the sctir chapters as I translated. Munpia doesn't let you select text, so I used an OCR website! (Aka sites to get the text from images)
Now the two that I used were imagetotext, which is quite fast, but likes to fuck up and malfunction, forcing me to restart the process a lot. Bc of that I switched to prepostseo, which works well enough, but does require you to do a captcha test every. single. time. And I am SO FUCKING BAD at those that I went half insane.
So what I would do is to take a screenshot of whatever page I'm on, get the text through the OCR and paste it into Obsidian (I make two separate files for each chapter - RAWs and TLed) until I have the whole chapter.
Now, the formatting does get kinda fucked up. While I use the text on Munpia as a reference, I fix up the formatting of the text.
This is where it gets a little complicated: I like to use Azure to translate. It's a service offered by Microsoft, which includes a translator that, in my experience, is a little better than other machines. And since I don't edit the text this has proven to be VERY useful to me.
But setting up Azure is an absolute bitch and a half so I could also recommend Papago. They include definitions of certain words too, which is really useful. You're just gonna have to do it bit by bit.
Lastly? I recommend learning hangul. It's super fuckin fun (to me, but im a huge nerd) and it will help you with understanding when something's mistranslated a LOT.
The translations are pretty.. Well, they're unedited machine translation. But at least you won't have to wait 12 years for all 870 chapters to get translated. I say that you enjoy the process (It's very very repetitive and I highly recommend putting on a show in the meantime!) and just.. well, just have fun.
I've found that I really enjoy some of the descriptions even when they're not the best. And good grammar gets overestimated anyways. Talk to any older immigrant and they'll tell you the most fantastic stories while inventing sentence structures never before seen (Speaking as a child of immigrants here lol)
And gosh even with the translations being fucked up I've still had so many moments where I got so emotional I cried. The author is a wonderful writer and I can't wait to learn korean enough to be able to read the original text
That's all for now! If it sounds complicated, thats because I do NOT know how to keep myself short ^^
