I'm going to be real, I think people (particularly neurotypical people) really fail when they see disordered eating as solely a behaviour when it isn't just that (and usually they assume the behaviour can only be restricted eating). Disordered eating is as much a frame of thinking as it is a "behaviour".
I say this is a failure because people are struggling, and they aren't receiving help they need because they're not seen as "eating disordered". The mindset that leads to somebody developing the behaviours associated with disordered eating is - in my experience - absolutely life-ruining and devastating. It genuinely feels like a huge part of your soul has shriveled up and vanished. When you see disordered eating as a behaviour, you are fundamentally not understanding what these issues tend to be, and how they arise.
This is so, so especially important for people who don't "look" the way society expects. For instance, the number of men I see absolutely destroyed by these thoughts, feelings, and compulsions is really almost astonishing. We need to do better for everybody - everybody deserves the help they want and need.

Slenderverse Highschool AU Character Descriptions

The Disappointing Crimes of JKR
so it’s 2 am and I have a fight to finally get home (i’ve been MIA for a while because I needed a vacation tbh) THIS IS A LOOOONG ONE, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED! but on one of my flights I finally got to watch FB2 and it’s taken me a while to gather my thoughts. Like, I knew the disappointing confusion I was signing up for... I had seen SO many YT reviews on the film and from HP fans to just FB1 fans had gathered their opinions... and it was all negative...  So I had my apprehension going into watching this (thank fuck it was free) and I’ve got a lot of my own opinions to say... So if you are aware of myself, you know that I actually loved FB1 and how the flow and characters went. Genuinely, I think as a stand alone film it was actually a good, comprehensive piece of story and film; you had exposition, build up, character development, tension, climax and fallout/outro/conclusion...  So, what went OH SO WRONG in FB2, in my humble-ass opinion?  Well, lets get into this adventure with me, pals... stick with me as I rant my good ol’ heart out, grab some snacks, a drink, maybe some liquor of choice (in my case).  In the beginning, there was... well, absolute confusion??? For an entrance into a film, especially a franchise that has a previous film, I firmly believe there needs to be SOMETHING that explains and ties the previous entry to the latest one... Especially since this series hinges on a handful of characters (Newt, Tina, Credence, Grindelwald, and Queenie + Jacob) and to just throw us into Gellert’s VERY confusing transfer to Europe’s Ministry to answer for his crimes... The intro threw me off; there’s a time jump and there’s an extreme LACK of having our previously established characters development and fallout from the first film being EXPLAINED so we (audience) can make a connection to this next entry.  Like, Credence’s survival (yes, I’m well aware of the deleted scenes that were actually supposed to be shown at the end of FB1 according to Yates...) because we don’t get to connect the dots on screen of HOW and WHY Credence and his Obscurus survived with the additional information of his Obscurus being HANDLED (like, wasn’t the premise of the previous film the urgency of how this THING was going to KILL him and EVERYONE in NYC?), him finding his adoption paper, getting to Paris and into a travelling circus (which, also... makes no sense??)... We’ll put a pin on that for a bit here...  Also, Tina and Newt’s relationship; we really are left wondering how and why they are even romantically involved as the first film established them as strangers to mutual friends at the end... Something that should’ve been shown on screen could’ve been Newt choosing to continue his Beasts studies and books over staying and risking himself being in America for his love interest, Tina. Again, put a pin on that for now...  But instead, I just felt the into to the film was as vapid as JKR’s writing when she simply just doesn’t care for CONTINUITY and actually making sense of ANYTHING.  But nnnooooo, we just get an hour and a half of meaningless exposition and threads that aren’t even expanded or given closure to...  Gellert putting Abernathy as his doppelganger really pissed me off, because we never are shown an inkling as to WHY Abernathy chose or perhaps had always been on Gellert’s side (could’ve even expanded on the idea of Abernathy playing a role in Percival’s capture/implied death in the first film)... Even Seraphina doesn’t mention or show ANYTHING about their most powerful wandless wizard being GONE... he was SOMEONE alive and WORKING in MACUSA for a substantial amount of time... that had connections, powers above anyone, and obvious trust and influence to Seraphina... which also begs the question, why is there such a heavy emphasis on Gellert using his wand magic, when he had been using wandless while impersonating Mr. Graves?  Now, to get into another huge issue; character development continuity: How did the time jump from the intro give us very DIFFERENT characters than the one’s we had been introduced, learned to love/hate be turned into vacant shells of all their development?  Like, I’m sorry but what in the actual FUCK did JKR do with Queenie’s character? She seemed like a genuinely sweet and subtly powerful witch that used her gifts to her advantage... to this, desperate, powerless, and lost character? The Queenie we were shown had a sparkle for adventure and curiosity that gradually came to admire Jacob and truly was heart broken when his memory was erased--to kidnapping him, putting a love charm against his will, and forcing him to go to London with her? She acted the very opposite of who she is and she seemed to have strong morals to stand by her sister’s side, help no-maj’s out, and using her powers for what she felt was right.... To being hapless in Paris, because she wouldn’t own up to her kidnapping and using magic on Jacob against his will, and then DECIDING to JOIN Gellert’s very VAGUE AND STRANGE CULT.  Newt seemed more like a confused boy the entire installment with flashes of him and his abilities with connecting to beasts, thrown into this second installment as a reminder that “fantastic beasts” is in the title of the movie...  Also the broken up dialogue; I DIDNT GET A SINGLE STRAIGHT ANSWER IN ANY GODDAMN CONVERSATION HELD BY ANY CHARACTER! like WOW for a two hour+ movie I got ZERO dialogue that made me go ‘ahhh i get it now!’ no, everyone was running away from each other like a grade-school gym dance.  Jacob was still, sort of, Jacob... but he and Newt’s friendship didn’t feel authentic in this film as it did in the previous. The banter (or lack thereof) was kind of just a callback to me of saying ‘ahahaha, dont you remember Jacob being funny in the last movie????? well look at this funny moment thats totally not needed!’  EVERYONE AVOIDING EACH OTHER FROM MISCOMMUNICATION LIKE THEYRE TEENAGERS REALLY MADE THE ADULT TONE OF THE LAST FILM JUST FALL FLAT... I had screamed internally every time some interaction happened and then someone RUNS AWAY! like, aren’t they adults??? even HP films has young TEENS being more accountable and willing to talk than every adult in this MOVIE.  Lets get into Gellert’s confusing vague cult of reasoning; Gellert’s wishes and aspirations and him killing people and children to comparing his reasoning that he will stop WW2 with his hookah skull... just didn’t make sense, I’ll also add that Gellert’s LACK of character really just pissed me off, like, Voldemort wasn’t revealed until waaaay later and even when he was a face on the back of someone’s bald ass head; made a more CONVINCING and REASONED character with his motives. Gellert just seemed like a casual shit disturber and running a murderous vague cult because Albus won’t do shit and he knows it... He’s like an angsty teenager that never got had someone sit and hug it out type deal. Also, the way he treats his followers and the lack of showing HOW he got so many followers; like, I’m sorry but how did this angsty man-baby get followers???? Oh, right, he used his words that... AGAIN, fall goddamn short even when we FINALLY got to see his “gathering” and “speech” that was so hyped for almost 2 hours... It didn’t make sense to his reasoning or why he was acting out IMHO.  Alright, now let’s get to the character introduction... or really, half-assed intro to the many people I COULDNT CARE FOR... Expect my personal surprise with Theseus, we’re introduced to a man that seems more compelling and complex than Gellert (seriously tbh). Somehow we’re led to believe a guy who constantly (as we’re shown) to reach out to Newt that HES the one making their relationship complicated? When it becomes apparent that Leta and Newt are the two with complicated history and Theseus loves them both deeply????? Enough that he just stands back knowing damn well Newt and Leta have a past but he’s secure in his relationship between all both people he just wants them all to get along. Now, I get that Theseus wants Newt to be an Aura, but we’re also shown he has his reasons to help Newt (ultimately); Theseus showed more character development than ANYONE in this ENTIRE MOVIE (well Albus is second in this) but him CHASING HIS BROTHER TO GET ANSWERS is somehow ‘BAD TEMPER’ according to Tina... like really, almost all the female characters were lacking level-headed sanity purposely written by JKR so I would resent the characters I had grown to actually like???? Nagini is just thrown into the plot as a mother-like figure for Credence but Credence is displayed as some selfish man-child, he can’t reason with Nagini and it leads to their strange relationship ending with Nagini feeling betrayed. And then there’s Leta and her over-played storyline to be cut short by her sacrifice that literally didn’t do anything for the plot but make me want to punch a wall because Theseus is left with a broken heart and a brother who will ditch him in a minute to talk to Albus...  There were other characters that were so lacking in development that if any or all of them died, I felt like I could still sleep like a baby knowing that JKR had made such shitty vapid characters and lack of development, I felt NOTHING for practically everyone. Albus, Theseus, and Queenie had the most emotional complexity but even then, I’m giving them kudos because everything else was lacking so much I clung onto whoever threw an emotional fit first.  The whole dynamic between Albus, Gellert, and Credence really just angered me. Red herring the entire premise of Credence wanting to know his identity so DESPERATELY he was willing to join Gellert’s vague emo posse of a cult, only to be revealed as not a Lestrange (which we had been hyped tf up to know) as, instead, THE BRO ALBUS AND NOBODY IN THE HP UNIVERSE APPARENTLY KNEW OR WAS EVER EXPLAINED JUST WHY ALBUS’ BABY BROTHER IS ON A BOAT TO AMERICA (i’M GUESSING THIS EXPOSITION WILL BE EXCRUCIATINGLY TOLD ONLY TO BE SOME OTHER LIE AND BAM CREE IS DEAD)???? But YES lets not elaborate on the queer baiting of Credence, Albus, and Gellert... JKR just wanted to hype us up for nothing and all of Credence’s development and complexity is summed up to ‘lol ur a dumbledore, cree’ really is a slap to the face. Albus being trapped a majority at the school was a half-ass way for us to not have Albus confront Credence to get him to fin d his answers at Hogwarts... Lets be real.  But basically, everyone wasn’t themselves, people we were introduced to were flatlined or placed in stereotypical tropes, and every exposition turn was a red herring thats never elaborated on or concluded... the lack of goddamn comprehensive dialogue, and we got queer baited by the ever infamous JKR....  and my final take: WHERE THE FUCK IS PERCIVAL GRAVES?????  So, this was my long-ass ranting about this movie and why I probably watched it for the criminal reasoning to hurt myself and be disappointed in the end... Was i surprised? NO.  Am I going to watch the next installment... maybe... just for closure to this epic failure of a second installment.  Thanks for making it to the end, I hope this was less painful than the actual film.

What Myers-Briggs types do you think the main Trifecta characters would be?
Hmm. Well, I had a hard time settling one a single type for most of them, so I tried to find at least two for the six Trifecta “mains” - Paul, Reggie, Brandon, Conway, Barry, and Maylene.
(REALLY stretching it calling Maylene a “main”, especially since Chapter 13 is where she peaked; once Arc II happens, she’ll be in Out Of Focus territory for sure… buuuut she’s made her mark and a lot of readers take notice to her, so I threw her in)
Interestingly, I had no one pegged as INFP (Mediator/Idealist), which is where I fall in. Some characters fit half of it but I couldn’t justify the other half not befitting them (Paul and Conway were the partial contenders - and Brandon to a lesser degree… but Conway’s too charismatic and sociable, while Paul and Brandon aren’t deep thinkers to the point where they’re completely delusional like I am :P).
Tumblr media
Paul - INTJ (The Mastermind) or ISTJ (The Inspector)
Safe to say if I had to pick one only, it would be INTJ. Definitely would sooner work alone than a group any day (and if Conway hadn’t been there for him like he’d been so much in Trifecta, this would likely still be the case for him - and Barry is more a result of Trifecta Paul’s character development). Much more comfortable doing things his own way and proving to the world he can handle himself. Even with Trifecta development, Paul still finds social activity a huge chore. Trifecta 21 has Paul go out of his way to be receptive to Conway’s friendliness, and it does take a toll on him physically and mentally. Also a master strategist, as per canon, and questions everything. And god help him if Paul is unsure of anything. It’s why he hates being indecisive in Trifecta; he believes even a wrong choice or a bad idea is better than none at all. And knowing his legendary levels of “patience”, he’s definitely not going to wait all day to find the right path.
With ISTJ… well, this was a Brandon contender, surprise surprise. Intimidating? Comes off that way. Serious? All the damn time. Formal, proper…? Well, he DOES respect his elders, for the most part. If he thinks you’re shit, he’ll treat you like shit, but Paul’s not nearly as eager to start shit as he was in his Trifecta youth. You can definitely say, either in canon or Trifecta, Paul’s a strong worker who follows his own moral code. For all his controversial shit, Paul has never once cheated or tried to take the easy way out. Now, he sure as hell isn’t PATIENT, and he doesn’t really put much stock in going out of his way to upholding social or cultural responsibility (especially the former). But Paul is typically quiet and reserved; while he’s prone to anger, he’s fully capable of keeping calm when he needs to. Even Trifecta Paul can pull this off unless he’s just physically about to break down. Often misunderstood? Ohhhhhh, yeah.
Tumblr media
Reggie - ESFJ (The Provider) or ESTJ (The Supervisor)
ESFJ might actually be the lesser of the two here. Mostly because Reggie isn’t really an attention-seeker outside of his own family members. He doesn’t desire the spotlight; he just wants his daddy and lil bro to love and accept him! But Reggie IS an active young man, very social, way more thoughtful than he makes himself out to be, and totally IS the organizer for any family event that happens in the present-day and has been since his mother’s death. He’s the guy that everybody loves. It’s been a common theme in some AUs of his Trifecta persona where he ends up being one of the most popular kids in school with legions of girls who’d drop everything to date him and he just never notices.
ESTJ covers him more uniformly. Reggie doesn’t want to be the star of the show, but he does want to help and offer advice to absolutely anyone who needs it. And he checks out on the listed traits: honest, dedicated, dignified, and traditional. You could definitely see him as a role model (even if Paul doesn’t) and he’s a good fit for a leader role.
Tumblr media
Brandon - ENFP (The Champion) or ENTJ (The Commander)
One of Brandon’s defining traits (that might’ve not been showcased in Trifecta yet since we’re not yet at the point where it’s mega-relevant) is that he will decide his own destiny and what path to take, damn what anyone else says. So there’s what wins him the ENFP brand. His intuition is pretty top-notch; terminal disease aside, Brandon can totally read Paul like a book even though he’s spent the better part of Paul’s life operating from a great distance and not really being around for his kid. He’s way more perceptive than most give him credit for, and though he’ll never admit it, Brandon does act on his feelings a lot. Even taking an overseas job shortly after his wife died while leaving his kids behind - he can say that’s solely because it was the best way to make up for the income difference, but really, it doubled as his desire to just remove himself from everything of Andrea’s influence. He had a harder time coping with her death than he’ll ever care to admit. Plus, Brandon’s unprofessional abandoning of his post that resulted in his return to Sinnoh? Totally impulsive. He also wasted no time making a detour to Reggie when Brandon learned he was in the hospital, so there you go.
With ENTJ, this correlates with Brandon’s leadership skills as head of the Kanto Battle Frontier, as well as being the head of his own travelling trifecta with Byron and Palmer. Ambitious is putting it mildly for Brandon, honestly. And while he can be a slave to his feelings at times, Brandon is more known for acting with cold, hard logic. He’s likened to Paul in Trifecta for a reason. Brandon’s all for challenging himself, not afraid to make the hard calls(as his sacrifice for Regigas proves), and hell no he cannot sit still.
Tumblr media
Conway - INTP (The Thinker) or ENTP (The Visionary)
Well, Conway’s pretty damn easy to peg even if you didn’t take his Trifecta traits into account. INTP is Conway’s most well-known traits in a nutshell: absorbs info like a sponge, heavy on the logical, objective side of perspective… he plans, he hypothesizes, he observes, he analyzes, he theorizes, and he can pick up on details most others will overlook. Like, literally everything INTP applies to Conway. He’s the consummate INTP.
ENTP has many of these traits, as well. Only major point of contention is not enjoying small-talk, as Trifecta Conway especially is very much all for that… at least for the people he deems worthy of it. Barry, he might not be much up for the small-talk as he would Paul or Dawn. I wanted to make sure to at least add one E-type here since I think it should be emphasized that despite his many typical nerd qualities, Conway is very much extroverted even in canon. He’s one of the most extroverted intellectual characters I’ve ever seen, honestly. Canon and Trifecta Conway love going in-depth with their thought processes, and he is a lover of learning. Loyal and energetic are also listed traits here, which are definitely more prominent Trifecta Conway traits, but notable ones nonetheless.
Tumblr media
Barry - ENFJ (The Giver) or ESFP (The Performer)
While I think we can agree Barry is more of a “live in the now” type than any other character listed here, contrary to the ENFJ type, the other traits fit Barry like a glove. Especially the “living in their imagination opposed to the real world” aspect. Holy shit that is very Barry. But he is idealistic, highly charismatic, outspoken… and in Trifecta, he’s proved to grow like a weed on characters who’d otherwise never associate with him, such as Conway and eventually Paul. Barry’s also much more of an optimistic individual compared to his future travel-mates and much less prone to letting bad shit get him down for any length of time.
ESFP speaks for itself. Barry’s the biggest spotlight whore of the Trifecta cast. Fun and livelihood are Barry’s core essences, and while he’s not the most considerate character to ever be around and thinking is secondary to everything, Barry isn’t a complete dick and will feel bad if he realizes he’s inadvertently hurt someone’s feelings. It may take him a while to understand that, but once he does, he’ll go out of his way to make you feel better. Barry doesn’t want to travel around with a couple of sad-sacks, after all. And while Barry’s an acquired taste who can and will rub people the wrong way… you know, compared to Paul and Conway, he’ll come off as the one most “normal” when it comes to people-persons. Barry’s aggressively extroverted, so even if it yields mixed results more often than he’d like, Barry will always go out of his way to connect with people.
Tumblr media
Maylene - ISFJ (The Nurturer) or ESTP (The Doer)
Despite being one of the most developed characters among the gym leader category in the Pokemon anime, she is harder to peg down than the others. But IFSJ feels pretty accurate for her. Sensitive to the feelings of others could link to her identity as an aura-user… plus she was insecure enough to let Paul’s worlds wreck her shit. But she is extremely considerate of others, warm and kind-hearted, and bringing out the best in others is what she aims to do as gym leader. Considerate, loyal, unselfish? All fit Maylene perfectly. For a Fighting-type specialist and martial artist, she’s definitely a modest and gentle soul.
ESTP… I think Trifecta 13 proves how incompatible Maylene is with elaborate planning and handling shitloads of detailed instructions. If left to her own devices, Maylene definitely would have handled the issue in chapter 13 by directly confronting Saturn rather than trying her hardest to feign ignorance of his identity. She’s not hot-headed, but Maylene does far better winging it than adhering to something set out for her. Maylene does always strive to better herself, so she’s open to trying new things. While a little on the shy side, she enjoys being around people and she IS the head of her own damn dojo, so… there you go. While it’s a stretch to say she’s pragmatic or logical, she definitely comes off that way when you line her up with other characters of her type specialty and line of work. She is level-headed and down-to-earth, at least; I’ll say that much.
When you break it down, there are common carry-over traits between the two for everyone:
Paul solidly has Introverted, Thinking, and Judging in his set. Checks out.
Reggie always carries Extroverted, Sensing, and Judging.
Brandon is a sure bet for Extroverted and Intuitive.
Conway is a consummate Intuitive, Thinking and Perceiving man.

Why I do Yoga? + This gaming addiction is an issue
Tumblr media
Whenever I tell people I do yoga, I often get these 2 immediate reactions:
“Yoga is not real exercise.”
“Does Yoga help to lose weight?”
Firstly, although yoga is not as intensive of an exercise such as running or weight-lifting, yoga is still a form of exercise that helps with your overall well-being. From learning how to properly breathe to decrease the risk of heart disease, yoga is the key to fixing your posture and enhancing your flexibility. Yoga helps to tone your body and calm your soul but it doesn’t help if you are looking to lose weight in a short period of time.
“Then why do yoga?”
I had been introduced to yoga a few years ago as part of the Gym Adventures series that I was writing. However, I didn’t find yoga intensive enough for me then. Plus, I was too distracted with the 101 inquisitive hobbies that involved me running around Singapore. Many years and experiences down the road later, I find myself crawling back to yoga to heal my broken heart. It helped me calm the hamster in my head down and it allowed me to reflect on things from an outward perspective. It gave me a sense of control over my life as everything as I knew then changed.
I stopped doing yoga once the changes around me stabilised. However, things took a huge turn when Singapore started to get colder last year. I don’t talk about this but I do have sinuses issues when the weather change. Those issues heighten when the temperature had a sudden drop last year. In addition to that, I haven’t been working out much ever since I’ve become a freelancer in 2019. In fact, the most exercise I did was walking from my study to the kitchen. In spite of all these issues, I only realised the need for change when my friend brought me to this 1-hour hot yoga class. About 20 to 30 minutes in, I started to see my vision closing. The stuffiness, the heat and the lack of exercise have finally gotten to me. I was not ok. It was scary to come to this realisation that my body was not what it used to me. In order for my body to function properly, I had to eat right, sleep early and exercise regularly.
Tumblr media
I hate sports
Back when I was in secondary school, I would find excuses to get out of Physical Education. While everyone loves this part of the school’s curriculum, I loathe it.  I don’t like exerting so much physical energy and being exhausted afterwards. Thus, doing cardio to get me into sports is out of the question. Nevertheless, I need to do some sort of exercise. Yoga seemed to be the easiest sort of exercise. Plus, I don’t need to leave the house for this. With that simple mindset, Yoga was chosen. Little did I know that Yoga will bring me more benefits than I initially anticipated.
Do you know that there is a better way to breathe? You can breathe deeper and fuller with yoga!
My goal in yoga was not to become thinner or gain a 6 pacs. I merely wanted my body to function normally. As the years go by, I started to realise that exercise is essential. Despite my hatred for sports, I need to push through that feeling and find an exercise that I like. Something that will make me want to go back for more. Yoga seemed ‘easy’ enough. Thus, I chose it.
There are plenty of yoga classes out there from hot yoga to Yin yoga but all those classes lasted for over an hour. Knowing my stamina and level of concentration, I find it hard to participate in the full hour of the class. Plus, the thought of travelling to and forth to the class to be with other humans in such a pandemic is not the most ideal situation. As such, I decided to do at-home yoga.
There are many resources online when it comes to online exercising classes. Previously on IreviewUread, I talked about OnlineGym4me. OnlineGym4me provides online classes from pilates, yoga to kickboxing. Get fit in the comforts of your own home. I love the whole idea since I don’t need to get out to get fit. Plus, I can exercise at 12 am if I want to and not follow the normal classes schedule. No 8 am classes for me, thank you.
Despite this resource that I was introduced to, I still chose to go with a particular Youtuber when it comes to yoga.
The hardest part is showing up - Yoga With Adriene
In Yoga with Adriene class, she teaches us to be good to ourselves. She thanked us for showing up and taking time for ourselves. The instructions she gives are suitable for people of different levels and she is so encouraging. It felt so encouraging and soothing to be doing yoga with her. It’s a great reminder for us to be good to ourselves and the fact that we chose to do what we are doing now is an active decision. Doing yoga with Adriene is more than just being flexible, healthy and ticking that checkmark of ‘I’ve exercised today’ of your list. It is being good to yourself, taking time for yourself and appreciating your body for what is and how it moves.
Tumblr media
Be soft on yourself
More than often, we are too hard on ourselves. On our work, on how we react and on our relationships. It’s a wonderful change of pace. Every yoga session starts with breathing exercises. To focus on your breathing, be aware of how your body is feeling and let go of your day thus far. One of the things that bothered me at the beginning is how yoga and mediation required your mind to be empty but as a chronic over-thinker, my mind is never empty. Through the sessions, I’ve got used to the fact that it’s alright for my mind to be full. All I have to do is acknowledge the thoughts that I am having at that time and let it go. It is the same as the emotions that we are feeling when we are overwhelmed. It is alright to cry, to let it out and to acknowledge that it happened and this is what you are feeling but you have to slowly let it go and not be stuck because of it. These thoughts and feelings may come back but that’s also alright as long as we acknowledge it and let it fly away.
They say practice makes perfect. I say practice makes better. The more you do  certain things, the better you get it. Although I have been doing yoga more frequently than before, I still fall out of poses and my mind still floats away. However, the constant reminder from Adriene that it is alright to feel this way is reassuring and encouraging.
If you’re looking to try out at home yoga, Yoga with Adriene produces free 30 days yoga challenge every year. The 30 days challenge could be done continuously, or whenever you are free. You make your own rules. This year, the theme is HOME. HOME is about coming back to yourself. We are so influenced by the media, the people and the judgment of others that we have no idea who we are anymore. We feel lost and alone. We seemed to abandon the most important person in our lives, ourselves. With HOME, the challenge allows us to empty our minds and take some time to hear our inner selves. To reset your mind, concentrate on the movements instead of giving all the attention and your identity to the voices in your head.
Ever since I started to practice yoga 2 to 4 times a week, I noticed my breath and body flow smoother. According to The Atlantic, even by doing 12 to 20 minutes of yoga could result is great things such as memory improvement and increasing of bone density. The keyword is to do it frequently instead of doing a 60 minutes class once a month. Thus, I rather chose to do 20 - 30 minutes yoga session two to four times a week instead of a 60 minutes session once a week. I guess this is also dependent on one’s preferences.
Tumblr media
With everyone playing animal crossing, I’m obsessed with this farming simulator, Harvest Town.
Gaming Addiction is a serious issue that people don’t talk about
... and I don’t intend to talk about it today for I am very sure that I have that serious issue.
Aside from doing yoga, I’ve also started streaming more often on Twitch. So much so that I’ve become an affiliate. That means you can subscribe to me on twitch! This is with the help of various other people that helped me with technical issues and the enhancement of my streams. Although you might probably not read this I would like to say a Thank you :) You all gave me a reason to persevere and not give in to the procrastination monkey.
For easy communication, I’ve also opened a discord server where we share new games, get the latest updates from me and chitchat. The admins and I will be doing our best to moderate the server to ensure that it is a safe environment for everyone.
With that, I shall end this long post with this sentence:
Through this time of uncertainty, I hope that all of you stay safe and healthy. Let’s all do our part, apart.
If you ever get bored of being apart, do join me every Friday and Saturday, 10 pm onwards (UTC+8) on Twitch as I host Drawful 2 for us to all play alone, apart.

Integre8t Wellness Vlog
I'm really excited to announce that in the next couple weeks I will begin a video blog on YouTube! I've been watching people in the fitness community for a long time, and some of them are truly amazing: Knowledgeable, skilled, polished... Then there are those who... aren't. I've watched for many years, but hadn't really studied and analyzed the community until much more recently. I've identified five categories:
Demonstration/Programming:
Calisthenics & Weight Training was one of the first channels to captivate me, and it's been exciting to watch the subscriptions expand. It's operated by a Swedish god of an athlete named Kris. He has many different types of workouts; however, the main thrust is bodyweight exercises that are performed on simple, common objects or pieces of equipment. He isn't interested in competitive shows or doing photo shoots. He's one of the single most aesthetic creatures I've ever seen on YouTube, yet he remains mostly anonymous. Despite his perfect appearance, he exudes no arrogance. I admire him not only for his zen-like dedication to perfect form, but also his total absence of machismo. There is no yelling, there is no bro science. There is only you and the movement. He encourages his audience to train for the joy of it, not for size or ego.
CalisthenicMovement is curated by Daniel Vadnal, and is really helpful for breaking down exercises into nuanced progressions. He has a very charming and warm personality, his advice is based not only on the experience of his own training, but also upon his degrees in Exercise Science and Physiotherapy. He's very encouraging, and has a calm demeanor.
AthleanX is run by Jeff Cavaliere, and I think his entire brand is genius. By contrast to the others I just mentioned, his energy is more raucous and energizing. He knows his stuff thoroughly, and his videos have evolved beautifully as his empire has grown. He offers videos for many modalities of training. He's not only a remarkable athlete and coach, he's also a very savvy businessman. And be on the watch for the muscle marker. As an educator I was always telling my students that if they want to understand what a muscle does, look at the direction of its striations. I was really happy to hear Jeff summarize it with: "Follow the fibers!"
Informational, Scientific:
Juggernaut Training Systems is one of the first places I go when the bros start making statements or claims that confound me. If I find myself thinking, "That can't be right... or is it?" Well, then I head over to see if the guys with Ph.Ds have already discussed (or debunked) whatever has me scratching my head. The coaches on this channel have dedicated their lives and studies to exercise and fitness. I trust them any day over the anecdotal channels.
Sean Nalewanyj cuts through bogus fads like hot knife through butter. And he does it without being mean. He simply addresses misconceptions and explains why they aren't true or helpful. His practical advice is sensible and straightforward.
BodyBuilding.com is a monster of a channel. With practically anything you can think of that relates to health and wellness, there's information for practically any question you can think to ask. The site features content experts for their articles and video updates. Citations are often supplied in the footers of articles, and the production quality of the videos is often impeccable. One caveat: If you go to the site, it's generally best to avoid the community forum. There is so much contradicting, false, and potentially harmful advice being thrown around that it really isn't worth getting through all the ignorance to find the wisdom. It's like panning for gold. There are nuggets, but good luck finding them.
Informational, Anecdotal:
Gym Dudes is one of my favorite channels. These two brothers (Hudson and Brandon) are fantastically experienced and have a treasure trove of ideas and suggestions, all delivered with clever humor and effortless charm. I place them in the anecdotal category only because I don't know them to have educational credentials or citations. But if they were to show these, I'd immediately place them into the science-based category. An excellent and accessible channel with lots of character that balances bro and pro.
Alan Thrall is a powerlifter with an extraordinary story about determination. Although I will never be a powerlifter, I find his determination and ingenuity inspiring. His entire brand is about connecting with people on a completely transparent level. When I need to remember to remain nimble in business, or just want to hear about how he has succeeded despite setbacks, this is the channel I watch.
Alphadestiny serves as a reminder of what I specifically do not want my channel to become. With absolutely ridiculous advice and homophobic ranting, I watch these videos as a reminder to myself that confrontation brings out the basest parts of people. Also, the comments on this channel are even more toxic than usual. Remember, like attracts like: I have to be positive, so that I can attract positivity. I, too, can get into rants, and this channel exemplifies why that undermines credibility.
Roasts (typically of the anecdotal channels): Infinite Elgintensity is the watch dog, whistle blowing comic of the YouTube fitness community. He uses deadpan delivery to utterly eviscerate other channels if they purposefully spread misinformation. As a lawyer, his wit is keen, and no one can really compete with his level of sheer cynicism. You know you're doing something right when CrossFit sues to have your channel removed after you say what everyone else has already been thinking. The reason Elgin is so effective is that all he does is repost the videos others have already made. He simply allows people to demonstrate why he's roasting them. He serves a very important role in the community, despite being a lightning rod for anger. My one and only criticism is that his constant use of homophobic taunts adds nothing to the value and genius of his updates.
Cult of Personality:
Mike Thurston, without question, is one of the most genetically gifted people on YouTube. Whereas my personal training aspirations brought my focus to the calisthenics channels, I still appreciate weight training. I also use it as an important part of the coaching I give to clients. Mike offers series of videos that are not only informative, but also very easy to watch. He's one of my faves, and I've followed him since he had only hundreds of followers as opposed to +100,000 (and counting). His gym is flawless, his production values are amazing, his form is perfect, and he's got a British accent. So yeah. A total freak with a perfect life. LOL
Scott Herman is a fixture in the YouTube fitness community. He was one of the very first guys to recognize the potential of vlogging, and has built a huge following. I have very mixed feelings about Scott. For a while he seemed to be gay baiting (when an attractive straight man flirts with gay men to manipulate them for some advantage). He was always a strong proponent of natural bodybuilding; however, his most recent updates show results that I simply cannot believe are accomplished by hard work alone. I admire Scott's savvy, but his information is often suspect, his technique in older videos is not good, and he seems to have started using steroids. I watch his channel to learn what he does that people find compelling.
Train to Look Good Naked is the channel I follow to laugh at. This one gets rowdy. I don't know this guy's name. I don't really need to, because he's entertaining. And although I really enjoy his energy in very small doses, everything else about this channel is a reminder of exactly what I do not want to do. The misogyny and homophobia are real, the pranks are buffoonish and/or mean, the diet is an absolute mess, and proper form is completely ignored. I can take about three to five minutes for the wow factor, but after that the frat boy/bro/dude nonsense just overwhelms me too much. Pretty much the "Don't Let This Happen to You" chapter in the wellness ebook I'll eventually write.
Most of the channels are some blend of at least two or three of these archetypes. I plan to look at the best traits of each category of videos and put them all together at once. I'm really excited as I work on the template for my individual entries. Check out the links I provided to the channels within each category to get a sense of the type of influences that are informing my own.
