I will say, not all of these are necessarily sexual relationships (since that is what I'm known for) a lot are cute and fluffy. oh, yeah, also passed 25k in soulmate timer au fic #4 rough draft, which means it’s likely going to be longer than fic #3 but considering what all’s involved...i should’ve expected it would be longer. debating whether or not they find out about jane being pregnant in this fic or not.  i would expect probably, but not sure at this point.

moved to ville city and center point around 9? 10? years ago after dropping her ritzy frequent flyer job at a consulting firm to pursue other passions (food) 

starts up garnish, then known as poached, around 6 years ago after getting some restaurant experience in some now-defunct joint.

has been pretty successful, but having the one well-run establishment apparently isn’t enough so now she’s working on a collaborative effort with her younger sister on the side (launch pending)

All too aware of the fact that Squee can turn back into a dagger at will, Rogelio nevertheless attempts to swat it away from his valuables with no amount of success, and gives up so as not to get sliced. Instead, he pulls the box out of range from this most vicious attack and checks the contents yet again. A few items were left behind under the bed but none of it appears to have been chewed on, at least. And the wood of the box itself remains perfectly intact. The only thing amiss is the absent lock.

“You ate my lock, didn’t you? Little menace.”

Squee peers up at him remorselessly, having given up on whatever it’s doing with his stuff under his bed. Turns out Squee is a squirrel in more than just appearance, he muses. It has the same habits, the same instincts... everything except the intelligence of one, really. Understanding language is big for any animal. But other than that, it’s so spot-on that sometimes he looks at it and forgets it was ever crafted by human hands. Does that mean everything it does is deliberate, though, every aspect contributing to the squirrel-like illusion? Or was that an accident, or something it learned later?

He watches it. It watches him. he realizes he cant win a staring contest with a metal statue. Even though he’s still annoyed, he shakes his head and smiles anyway.

“Oh well. It’s useless to stay angry about a thing like that. Just don’t go making it a habit, okay?? I’d rather not lose something important next time- like my house key! I can bring you scrap from the workshop or something. So will you please, please leave my things al-“

The way he stops talking is as abrupt as the death of his thoughts, snapped up in the jaws of another: the things on the floor. The things that Squee took out of the box… they’re the exact same assortment as earlier. And now that he knows more about what Squee is capable of, he’s less inclined to write it off as a wild coincidence.

“I- I see you’ve picked your favorites. Why those?”

Squee gets moving again with those words- immediately, even, like it was waiting for the cue. Displaying its incredible speed, it darts in and out of the underside of the bed multiple times, bringing out these items of interest one at a time and depositing them in front of Rogelio in a little pile:

A colorful marble.

A little wooden charm carved to look like some kind of animal’s head.

A ring masterfully weaved from long thin fish bones.

A triangular stone covered in patterned scratches.

And his splitting wedge- which surprises him. Everything else is something at least somewhat rare or unique, but the wedge is just something he keeps in the box so no one can ‘borrow’ it indefinitely again.

All together, it’s an interesting bunch, but he can’t really see a connecting factor that might explain why Squee chose them. He glances over at it. Once again motionless, it has a beady eye fixed in Rogelio’s direction and betrays nothing. Well, since it can’t explain itself, he might as well start asking questions.

“Okay… You find things. That’s what you did for him, and now for me. What kind of things, though? Anything?”

No.

“Specific things, then?”

Yes.

“Like what? Like the same kinds of things that you’re showing me now?”

Yes.

Understanding strikes him suddenly: what would the magic guy be the most invested in finding- so much so that he’d create a whole little creature to help him out?

“…Magical things?”

An especially robust yes.

His eyes sweep over his old treasures as if for the first time. Some of these have been in his possession since childhood! How has he never once noticed, never realized or discovered their magicalness even on accident? What’s more, his tendency of finding interesting things on the ground and in the water has been a feature of his character for as long as he can remember. Exactly how much of that was magic crap he’d simply completely overlooked until now?

“You’re really telling me these are all magical in some way?”

Another yes. Was he expecting the answer to be different? Did he think Squee was capable of lying to him, of playing some bizarre joke on him? Dazed, he tosses the fishing lure aside to grab the marble and roll it around in his fingers, searching for anything at all out of the ordinary… whatever it was that Squee saw and he missed. But it’s just a marble. And the same can be said of any of this stuff: it just looks like stuff. Come to think of it, he hadn’t realized the amulet was magical at first either.

He lets out a big sigh.

“But I don’t… How can you tell?”

From the edge of his vision, he sees Squee move closer to him- to where the lure had come to rest- and pick it up. His head slowly rises to witness how Squee tests the lure meticulously with its nose and teeth, taking tiny nibbles that do no actual harm to the item, its patience and discipline like that of a weaver. And then it shoves the lure into the special pile. Rogelio’s neck and back straighten almost with a snap.

“That too!?”

Six magical things are heaped up like garbage on his floor. Five of them came from within his very walls. But he is far too drained from the long day to know what he should do about it now. Theories big and small flicker in his mind like flies trapped in mud. He needs rest. He needs… help, to be honest. But for now, he gathers the magic stuff into a bag and stows his trinket box back where it belongs and falls into bed with a heavy exhale.

If he dreams at all that night, it’s lost to the roaring tides of exhaustion.

okay but if xo is going to be a nurse and luisa is probably going to be integrated back into the family by the end of the season, does that mean i can think about medical doctor luisa alver helping xo study and pass her exams and her classes?

luisa showing up with all of the flash cards and rogelio trying to burst in with the times he’s played nurses or doctors on screen and they do some light-hearted roleplaying so that xo gets into the habit of going through the motions because maybe she learns and remembers better by doing things instead of by memorizing them because she knows all of the information by that point but it’s hard to remember everything when she’s in the moment? and sometimes alba’s over because she was a nurse but some of the practices have changed since she retired and so sometimes what she says needs a little bit of correcting, but then she and luisa are just chatting away about patients they’ve dealt with while they were working - both good and bad and a lot of in-between?  and sometimes xo chimes in with how she would react and they both give her this no you can’t do that look and then they realize it’s a joke and they just all laugh?  luisa catches on first because she gets that kind of humor because that was kind of how raf or allison (or rose) would react when she told them some of her stories from the day, and most of the time when alba was working, mateo, sr. was already gone. (and maybe, because sometimes luisa gets that wistful look because it feels kind of like interacting with rose, and xo notices and asks and luisa just nope, nope, not going to talk about it but xo has had her fair share of not-so-great relationships and her own wistful looks and despite how much luisa pretends that nothing’s wrong, she is eventually there enough for luisa to be open about it - as much as luisa can because she knows how everyone feels about rose and she doesn’t want people to know that it’s still affecting her because it’s rose.  so she tries to talk about it by talking around it - not mentioning her name - and xo’s just you’re talking about rose and luisa winces and xo’s just hey, it’s okay, i also have some bad past relationships that had some really great moments and they kind of bond over that.  and xo makes luisa get back into the dating game because luisa’s kind of like ro - she’s great but having someone else to share everything with would be wonderful for her - and luisa says she has all the family she needs right here.)
