admittedly this is "old man yells at clouds" energy, but I think it sucks that modern fandom often only conceives of community in the form of discord servers
#logically I understand why it's become preferred: scalability#ease of use and the network effect#but it severely advantages certain styles and dispositions where if you can't manage or perform you're gonna probably have a bad time#like yes those issues kinda always existed but the structure and speed of the platform exacerbates it in extreme ways#every time I see that a creators event requires joining a discord server I die a little inside#lol but not like I have answers because most people are not going back to dreamwidth for lj-styled communities#just out here mourning the loss of threaded async conversations#it is what it is#🧂🧂🧂

Y'know looking at how You Tube has been bombarding me with video suggestions about how Frontiers is BAD or GOOD or SECRETLY THIS or THAT has made me realize now more than ever that Youtubers have become the very thing they wanted to go against: game journalists. Think about it: they use the same clickbaity titles and thumbnails, the same tired old jokes and have just about the same level of integrity
Remember: it's okay when the fans do it :)
SEGA rehashes Green Hill again? Fucking lame, this nostalgia baiting has to stop, innovate! Fan recolors Kronos Island to add checkerboard patterns, palmtrees and loops because the original look isn't "Sonic" enough? Fuck yeah bro SEGA should have hired you!
A game journalist writes a clickbaity article like "Forces is bad but I can't get enough of its bad"? Wahhh anti Sonic bias! Stop shitting on Sonic, valorize the series! A youtuber can't go 5 seconds without making a joke about how Forces killed his family and his dog? Wow man you're so funny I also think Forces personally caused the Punic Wars let me subscribe to you!
There is one point I'll concede to the Youtubers though: they won't have the chance to embarrass themselves by making an 06 joke to Takashi Iizuka himself. Hopefully :/

you do NOT have to reply to this but i hate joukai/kaijou hate. there’s a difference between something not being for you and people saying it’s abusive. in my experience, it’s always kaiba stans who say kaiba has never done anything wrong and jounouchi is the one who lacks empathy saying the latter. just admit you ignore the series and only have headcanons about your fave instead of proclaiming Your Interpretation Is Correct!
People who go off on lengthy diatribes about how and why they hate this ship at the mere mention of it are why I have trust issues.
(I mean, not really, but they've never helped.)

Why do so many tmnt things market themselves as 'making them actual teenagers' . Like it's been a decade since 2012 came out,they've been acting more like typical teenagers for roughly a quarter of the franchise's run time
