cant tell you how bad it feels to constantly tell other artists to come to tumblr, because its the last good website that isn't fucked up by spoonfeeding algorithms and AI bullshit and isn't based around meaningless likes
just to watch that all fall apart in the last year or so and especially the last two weeks
there's nowhere good to go anymore for artists.
edit - a lot of people are saying the tags are important so actually, you'll look at my tags.
#please dont delete your accounts because of the AI crap. your art deserves more than being lost like that #if you have a good PC please glaze or nightshade it. if you dont or it doesnt work with your style (like mine) please start watermarking #use a plain-ish font. make it your username. if people can't google what your watermark says and find ur account its not a good watermark #it needs to be central in the image - NOT on the canvas edges - and put it in multiple places if you are compelled #please dont stop posting your art because of this shit. we just have to hope regulations will come slamming down on these shitheads#in the next year or two and you want to have accounts to come back to. the world Needs real art #if we all leave that just makes more room for these scam artists to fill in with their soulless recycled garbage #improvise adapt overcome. it sucks but it is what it is for the moment. safeguard yourself as best you can without making #years of art from thousands of artists lost media. the digital world and art is too temporary to hastily click a Delete button out of spite
If you're catching yourself thinking "that piece of media can't possibly be old enough to [X]", remember the 5/10/20 rule:
If it's five years old, it's old enough to have been a formative influence for up-and-coming artists; this is when all the people who had their brains fucked by it as teenagers start hitting their 20s
If it's ten years old, it's old enough to have crossed the irony threshold; if it's the sort of media that's amenable to deconstructions (or "deconstructions"), expect them here
If it's twenty years old, it's old enough for the first wave of nostalgic revivals, often as a delayed reaction against the above-cited deconstructions; otherwise known as the "retro" event horizon
Yes, this does mean that, for example, Gamecube launch titles are retro now. That is how time works.
Forgot to announce this here but the first ten chapters for Drawing For Nothing have been released! For those who missed the last post, this is a free, digital art book for animated films that were either canceled or bombed due to complicated issues.

More chapters are to come. A few highlights in the next installation will be My Peoples and Larrikins.
Also, if anyone wants to help research, feel free to send a DM! We're also working on a new cover that will feature custom artwork of various characters from these movies. If you think you got what it takes to draw in the style of another artist, we would appreciate the help!
//. ooc 2023 had been a really productive year for art. Our Life really took me by the reigns in 2022 and I had been riding on it for some time. That also goes well with my well beloved ship of Law and Leia, the other half respectfully, blissfully, and wonderfully written by @ervaurem who I still feel very honored to have befriended. Thank you to those who stuck around and more thanks to those who have known me for so long and dealt with me. I am highly undeserving of your kindness.
It's still New Years Eve for me here, but I'd like to give my thanks out early. Here's to 2024 -- I pray that it will be kinder to us than 2023. That we'll continue to be creative, have a good time, and our relationship will remain good.
It's true that there's no practicable way to frame "style theft" as an intellectual property issue that wouldn't have horrifying consequences for independent artist, but that doesn't mean we can't have sympathy for all the artists who've spent their lives perfecting the craft of drawing moist-lipped, glassy-eyed, vaguely oily-looking anime girls in three-quarter profile and now everybody thinks they're a robot.
